BBC

Jeremiah 49:1

D. Prophecies against Ammon (49:1-6)The Ammonites took possession of the territory of Reuben and Gad after these tribes went into captivity. They will be punished for their pride and self-sufficiency, but the nation will not be exterminated.

Jeremiah 49:7

E. Prophecies against Edom (49:7-22)Edom prided itself in its wisdom and its impregnable position (in the clefts of the rock), but God has decreed that it will be without inhabitant. Williams comments: “The first part of verse 12 applies to Israel; the second part to Edom. If God’s children must be punished for sin, how much more those who are not His children!” No promise of restoration is held out for Edom.

Jeremiah 49:23

F. Prophecies against Damascus (49:23-27)Damascus (Syria) is slated for destruction; her young men will fall in her streets, all her soldiers will be destroyed, and Damascus will be burned. Verse 25 may be the words of a citizen within the quotation of the Lord, rather than said by Himself, as the capital “M” of the NKJV would indicate.

Jeremiah 49:28

G. Prophecies against Kedar and Hazor (49:28-33)49:28, 29 Kedar’s nomadic people (the Arabians) will be defeated by the Babylonians. 49:30-33 Unprotected Hazor will be invaded by Nebuchadnezzar, will be robbed of its treasures, and left a desolation.

Jeremiah 49:34

H. Prophecy against Elam (49:34-39)The Elamites (Persians) will be scattered throughout the earth, but the Lord will bring them back . . . in the latter days. God will set His throne in Elam in the sense that He will rule there in judgment.
