Psalms 134
BBCPsalms 134:1
Psalm 134: Come, Bless the Lord!134:1, 2 After the usual daily schedule of activities at the temple in Jerusalem, the people returned to their homes, but there were priests and Levites who stood watch during the night (1Ch_9:33), burning incense, giving thanks, and praising the Lord (2Ch_29:11; 2Ch_31:2). It may be that as the people withdrew, they sang the first two verses of this song to the priests. It is certainly clear that the verses are addressed to servants of the LORD on night duty in the temple, and that the ministry of these men was to bless the LORD and lift up their hands toward the sanctuary in a posture of prayer. 134:3 The response of verse 3 is the blessing of the priests invoking God’s blessing on the people individually. Notice four things about the blessing. The Blesserthe LORD, Jehovah, the covenant-keeping God. His GreatnessHe . . . made heaven and earth. The One BlessedMay the LORD . . . bless you (“you” here is singular). The Locale of the BlesserZion, the place of the sanctuary.
