Calvin's Commentaries
John Calvin (1509–1564) was a French theologian, pastor, and reformer who became one of the most influential figures in the history of Christianity. His commentaries on nearly every book of the Bible are considered masterworks of exegesis, characterized by their brevity, clarity, and penetrating theological insight. Calvin sought always to explain the plain meaning of the text, and his commentaries remain essential reading for pastors, scholars, and students nearly five centuries after they were written.
