Catena Aurea (Golden Chain)
Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274), the great Dominican theologian and Doctor of the Church, compiled the Catena Aurea (Golden Chain) as a continuous gloss on the four Gospels, weaving together commentary from over 80 Church Fathers — both Greek and Latin — into a seamless verse-by-verse exposition. This monumental work remains one of the most valuable patristic resources for understanding how the early church interpreted the Gospels.
