Revelation 16:2

First Plague = Judgment against the Earth Mark of Beast ..cf. 7:3; worshippers of Ceasars were marked. #Revelation 7:3 Gentiles who supported Rom suffered Jews supporting Rome suffered at hands of both Jews and Romans. Jews were persecuting Christians (cf. James, brother of the Lord) Rome and Nero were putting to death Paul and Peter. Sea = Rome ? or all mankind. (Natural elements of God’ s wrath) River = Jeru

Revelation 16:6

Identifies the receipient of this Judgdment as Jerusalem #Matthew 23:24 Vengeance Idea = you will reap what you sow.

Revelation 16:7

#Revelation 6:9 cf. 5th Seal where we sow souls under the altar that had been slain. This pinpoints this judgment as God’ s vengeance for the sheeding of the blood of his saints.

Revelation 16:10

Fifth Plague. seat = throne. Even Rome was afflicted, all over the world. Nero killed himself to avoid the order of the Senate– civil war!! “Gnawed tongue” = how bad it was! Three men vied for the rule over Rome and killed off each other before Vespasian came in and took control.

Sixth Plague: River Euphraates.

Spirits of devils, v.14 The Dragon = Satan, The Devil Sea Beast = Rome False Prophet = Religious foes Frogs: like plagues of Egypt, judgment & punishment, and unclean.

The Roman army was made up of units from all over the world. Titus order to Jerusalem with armies from all nations

Revelation 16:16

“Ar” = the city of, (KJV); or “Har” = Mountain of, (RSV). Only time Armageddon is mentioned in all the Bible is here = Mt or hill of Megeddo. The prominent place of battle in the O.T. #Judges 5:19 * Debrorah #Judges 6:33; 7:1 * Gideon #1 Samuel 31:8 * Saul killed #2 Kings 9:27 * Jehu slew Ahaziah there #2 Kings 23:28-29 * Josiah killed by Pharoah Neco Medgeeo = symbolized where righteousness and unrighteousness fought. To say “Armageddo” was like us speaking of “The Alamo”, “Waterloo” and “Pear Harbor”, “Remember the Main!” “Normandy”

Revelation 16:17

“It is done!” = Battle is over– cf. 10:7 #Revelation 10:7 Verse 17 is paraellel to 10:7 and the 7th trumpet. #Luke 21:20

#Isaiah 28:2 Judgment, wrath and adversity don’ t always turn people back to God. Example: a speaker in B’ ham aboard the Canary Island runway collison the worse plane disaster of all time, fireball, etc (see Readers Digest article about it) said that the recording revealed the pilots last words as he realized the disasterous collison was immenent was a curse using God’ s name. Instead of a prayer, a curse!
