3. I profess, etc. That is, “I testify by this offering that I owe all I have to the bounty of Jehovah, who has faithfully kept all His promises.”

5 answer, “speak” or testify.—A Syrian, etc. This seems to be a summary of Jacob’s history, referring to his hasty and unprovided flight from home, and the poverty in which he came from Syria. These verses were recited at the passover; and on the next day the first sheaf was presented.

14 nor given aught thereof for the dead. Meaning either that no part of these offerings had been used in superstitious funeral ceremonies, like those of the heathen, or more probably that they had not even been taken to the house of mourning, which would have made them ceremonially unclean.
