15 an everlasting priesthood. To last as long as the Mosaic dispensation did.

17 the second year. The second year of the Israelites’ deliverance.

19 tent. Probably the under covering.

20 the Testimony. That is, the tables of the covenant. See xxxi. 18; and cp. Heb. ix. 4, note.

34 a cloud. The visible sign of Jehovah’s special presence, called the Shekinah, a Hebrew word signifying “dwelling.”

THE Hebrew title of this Book is Vayyikra, from its first word “And He called.” Leviticus was the name given to it by the Greek translators, the Levites being responsible for carrying out the laws of tabernacle worship.

The Book may conveniently be divided into three sections.

1. Laws relating to public worship (i.-xvi.). This includes directions as to the various kinds of sacrifices, provision for the priests, the consecration of
