Ezekiel 2

1. Son of man. This phrase is applied only to Ezekiel and Daniel (viii. 17), both of whom prophesied in Chaldea, where it was a common mode of address, equivalent to “O man!”

5 yet shall know. If the warning did not profit them, it would yet vindicate the justice and mercy of God.

6 thou dost dwell among scorpions. Though thou shouldest be exposed to malice and injury: cp. Matt. x. 16.

8 eat that I give thee. Receive its whole contents, so as to make them thine own: see iii. 10.

9 sent unto me. Rather, “stretched out to me.”

a roll of a book. See note on Jer. xxxvi. 2.

10 written within and without, ancient rolls were usually written on the inside only; but this is represented as full to overflowing of its dreadful contents: see Rev. v. 1.
