In this section (to xxxvi. 15) the opposite destinies of Israel and of her enemies are forcibly depicted. Her restoration involves their destruction: cp. Isa. xlvi. 1; lxiii. 1, and notes.

2 mount Seir. That is, the mountainous country of the Edomites, extending from the Dead Sea to the Elanitic Gulf: see Gen. xxxvi. 9; Deut. ii. 8.

6 sith. An old English word for “since.”
