3 likeness. That is, in Adam’s own sinful likeness; evidently contrasted with the “likeness of God” (ver. 1), in which he himself had been created.

Seth. Through Seth the line of Adam lives on. Seth becomes, as it were, the spiritual firstborn.

5 and he died. The repetition of the words is striking and is said to have awakened men to repentance.

22 walked with God. Denoting close intimacy: so Noah (Gen. vi. 9). Cp. the phrase “walk before” God (Gen. xvii. 1; Psa. exvi. 9 and reff.). With these cp. also Amos iii. 3; 1 John i. 6, 7.

24 was not. That is, was no longer on earth, as explained in Heb. xi. 5: “Enoch was translated that he should not see death.”
