rid, rid´ans: “Rid” originally meant “rescue” (the King James Version [Gen 37:22]; [Exo 6:6]; [Psa 82:4]; [Psa 144:7], [Psa 144:11]), whence the meaning “remove” or “clean out” ([Lev 26:6] the King James Version, with “riddance” in [Lev 23:22]; [Zep 1:18]). The word occurs in the American Standard Revised Version and in the English Revised Version in [Exo 6:6].
