Sin That Leads to Death

The phrase “sin that leads to death” appears in 1 John 5:16. In this verse, John does not encourage believers to pray for a person who sins in this way.

This phrase may refer to people who fully reject the truth. It may also include false teachers who deceive the church. Other New Testament passages warn about people who turn away from the faith or deny the truth about Jesus Christ (Hebrews 6:4–6; 2 John 1:7–9).
