Revival Hymn Re-Mix?

S
sermonindex

This thread is in relation to the quite popular compilation:

The Revival Hymn

I am proposing that we Re-Mix the compilation with the exact same voices but with no music. I would like to have a copy on the site that does not have music and also with possibly quiter music in the background (copyright free).

if you are interested in helping with this project or have comments or suggestions post a reply.

This is a very good idea. I do have one comment. I'm wondering if you or someone here has the software tools to remove or reduce the distortion/noise in the recordings, particularly the Duncan Campbell recording. I know such tools exist but I don't have them nor the funds to purchase them. I would be happy to help with the project in other ways though.

In Christ,

Ron

I am sure some people would have tools that could do this, I have a few that help but I am not a very experienced user of some of them.

I'm no expert... but I do know a little bit about sound... and it is very difficult to take a low quality recording and make it sound like a high quality recording. It's kind of like "polishing a turd"... it's still a turd.

The thing is that these mp3's are old tape recordings and are sometimes distorted, and I'm not sure there is too much you can do to improve them.

However, if a voice is muddy, bassy, and unclear (like some of Tozer's recordings are) You can EQ them and it is very helpful, removing some of the bass frequencies and adding mids helps his voice stand clear in the mix. Also, if a particular mp3 is hissing, try removing the high frequencies.

Then again, I am not up to date with the latest technology, and now days they can make anybody sound good on radio/tv. So maybe it's possible to remove the distortion.

It seems to me that the music that would best fit this kind of old-time church preaching is old-time church singing. There are a few church sites out there that have good congregational music and are offered without copyright.

I wish there were more. The fact that more churches do not see value in their own congregational worship is just one more symptom of our entertainment-driven worship mindset. So I thank God for the churches out there that see the value of plain, simple, passionate congregational singing of those glorious old hymns.

There are some good hymns and congregational music on sermonindex in this section:

I have a professional quality recording studio at my house. I have the ability to take the noise out of the recordings, I have friends who can play soft acoustic guitar, and some who can play some soft piano in the background also, and I can record it all at pro quality. I can have them play original stuff, we can listen to the Revival Hymn and write the parts specifically for the voices and messages, so the timing will be really well done.

So I can help with a lot of the stuff you need, just send me a message and we can talk more about it.

Sounds great brother, I think someone else can find all the sermons and clip all the parts numbering them and then get all those to you. So here could be some of the steps:

1. cliping of sermons
2. numbering those clips
3. cleaning up clips (de-noising)
4. increasing bitrate quality
5. layout the voices into one file
6. create some background music to go with the recording.
7. place background music with voices.

I think someone can help with steps 1-2 and then Taylor if you have a heart to continue with it till completion that would be great brother. I think it would be good to have a version that would be just the voices and a version with the music in the background!

As soon as someone volunteers to start finding and clipping the sermons then we can start, if you desire to help with that process or do it yourself taylor let me know.

Praise God this is going to be excellent.

OK Sounds good, Basically if someone would be kind enough to link to all the sermons and what order they go in, I will download them all and start clipping and then to match when the voices came in on the original (the part that will take the longest is the first few minutes where the clips change pretty fast.) After I have all the clips arranged. I will save a version with no background music and then listen to it with friends and get some original parts going that are softer and go with the voices.

I know some of the Ravenhill is from "What is your life.", and the Duncan Campbell is "Revival in the Hebrides", and I know the Reidhead, but I don't know where the Tozer, other Ravenhill, Paisley, or Sparks (even though he only says 3 words) is from. I think that is all the speakers?

Here is the text transcription: https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=1573&forum=40#9822

I think there is a tread somewhere that lists alot of the sermons that are used.

This was just posted as a comment on the revival hymn video:

We want the revivals of the Philadelphian Church Age, but we love too much the fleshly and unholy music of the Laodicean age. As long as we continue to put clean water in a filthy pot, we cannot complain when people are getting sick from it. What kind of music do you suppose Ian Paisley or Paris Reidhead would put into this compilation? There's your clue to what is wrong with us.

I wholeheartly agree with the comment posted by this brother! I am so glad that the Lord is leading in this project to have more pure "Philadelphian Church Age" music.

Brother Greg, Can you give me some more clarity as to what kind of music you would like... just some soft acoustic guitar, piano? just piano?

Once I have the sermons, I don't think it will take me long to do this. I have a robust audio program and things can be done pretty quickly. Lord willing, I could probably have this done in a week.

Also, I have:

Duncan Campbell "Revival in the Hebrides"
Ian Paisley "Revival Possible and Actual"
Leonard Ravenhill "What is youre life"
Leonard Ravenhill "Judgement Seat of Christ"
Paris Reidhead "Ten Shekels and a Shirt"

Are there any other sermons that the rest of the Ravenhill quotes are from? Also, the T Austin Sparks and the Tozer quotes I don't know where to get...

I know you want to keep the voices the same, but if we can not find some of these clips, do you want to get together and decide on other clips we could use?

I would say just use piano, and at times it might be appropriate to put in some parts of hymns which you can find here: Godly Music.

I believe another sermon would be:
What does it mean to accept Christ by A.W. Tozer

I would like it if the austin t spark clip was found by someone, if you need to replace some spots that is fine but do it as a last resort and ensure the topic matter stays on revival primarly.

I have been a big fan of the clip for some time. What I found was that most people that I gave a copy of the Revival Hymn to were critical of the overpowering music that was used. Thanks to this project this treasure will find even more success. Thank you to any and all that are involved in updating this now classic comp.
Blessings Greg

I would also like to take input on what hymns people would like to hear in the background of this... All hymns will be done by piano only. The music will also be pretty discrete and soft as to not obstruct the speaking. If you think a hymn would fit well with a certain section please post the which section you think it would be good with.

H

well...maybe hymns that thease preatchers have sung themselfs? i meen old clasical hymns... classical preatchers...classical hymns...

Brother,

Could you make 2 versions? one version without any background music just the voices. And another version with this piano music in the background? That would be great brother.

I think the Hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy.. would be a appropriate hymn to do considering it was one of Leonard Ravenhill's favorites.

The Hymn: And Can it be? by Charles Wesley is another great one to do!

T
TaylorOtwell

Yes, I am going to save an Acappella version also. I will also have the editing session saved, so after I send it to you if there is anything that needs to be changed or tweaked it can be easily changed.

A brother just made a "voice only" version of the "ALL TO JESUS" compilation:

All to Jesus (voice only)

All to Jesus (voice only) low

Maybe you want to put some piano on the background of this one also.

UPDATE:

I am recording the Piano parts to the new Revival Hymn Remix tonight! I should have everything finished up by the end up the weekend.

Please leave any other hymn suggestions on this thread, if you want to hear a certain hymn on the remix.

Brother,

thank you for your hard work in this endavour! Do you have the ftp information to get the file to me? I am looking forward to getting this out to the brethren.

T

No problem!

Just another update: All the piano is now recorded, I think you will really enjoy it, it softly flows from one hymn to another very subtly and beautifully.

Don't know if it's to late to chime in...but 'Jesus Lover of My Soul' is top of the list.
