Pat Robertson Predicts 'Mass Killing'
AP
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - In what has become an annual tradition of prognostications, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would result in "mass killing" late in 2007.

"I'm not necessarily saying it's going to be nuclear," he said during his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network. "The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that."

Robertson said God told him during a recent prayer retreat that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September.

Robertson said God also told him that the U.S. only feigns friendship with Israel and that U.S. policies are pushing Israel toward "national suicide."

Robertson suggested in January 2006 that God punished then-Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon with a stroke for ceding Israeli-controlled land to the Palestinians.

The broadcaster predicted in January 2004 that President Bush would easily win re-election. Bush won 51 percent of the vote that fall, beating Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.

In 2005, Robertson predicted that Bush would have victory after victory in his second term. He said Social Security reform proposals would be approved and Bush would nominate conservative judges to federal courts.

Lawmakers confirmed Bush's 2005 nominations of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court . But the president's Social Security initiative was stalled.

"I have a relatively good track record," he said. "Sometimes I miss."

In May, Robertson said God told him that storms and possibly a tsunami were to crash into America's coastline in 2006. Even though the U.S. was not hit with a tsunami, Robertson on Tuesday cited last spring's heavy rains and flooding in New England as partly fulfilling the prediction.

Deuteronomy 18:18-22

18.I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

19.And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

20.But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

21.And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken?

22.When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

You simply put [] around a "b" with a opening bracket [] and a closing bracket [/] with the "b's" in them and then it will make things bold between them.

I think a nuclear attack is imient the Church has not humbled herself rather the "programs" and growth of the evangelical instuition has been more important where many have been led captive by these leaders.

We need a revival, we need prayer brothers and sisters. The word that Keith Daniel gave here is very prophetic to our time, hear it and share it:

I don't think that any countries or organisations that posess nuclear arms are going to attack a country simply because "the church has not humbled herself".

If you are suggesting that God is somehow going to cause it to happen because he is annoyed with the lack of humility I am flabergasted. Remember the samaritans that the apostles wanted to call down fire upon and remember the answer of Jesus.

This prophecy reminds me of "88 Reasons Why the Rapture Could be in 1998" popularized by Edgar Whisenant in 1988. The fact remains these prophecies are within the realm of possibilities, hence their believability. Now if Robertson would always have been accurate in his prophecies it should give us cause to be alert. On the other hand, we should always be alert because catastrophic events could happen any time...without any warning.

There is one thing that always gives me pause: what would life be like if some terrorist would bomb the TVA dams from which our electric company receives its electricity? What kind of chaos that would create...

The Scriptures tell us to be watchful and pray...if nothing else one can get killed in an accident, die suddenly for any reason..life is unpredictable. Some wise sage says: plan like you are going to live forever, but live like you could die anytime. Something to consider.

My soul rests in the hands of God. I admit that I live as if tomorrow will come, but honestly that is not guaranteed. I must live my life to glorify God and rest in his love and grace. God is my father and he will correct me when I need it, but his correction is done out of love.

I would recommend you read the major and minor prophets. God will judge a nation for its wickedness. And a Church for its backslidding. We are to be the salt of the earth and when we fail at our being salt the nations around us become more wicked. Therefore it is the responsibility of the Church to be that agent of change, we need to humble ourselves and pray. What is stopping us? what is stopping you?

I have read them. And whilst they are profitable for reproof, correction, and instuction in righteousness they were written before God was in Christ reconcilling the world to himself.

There will come a day of jugment in which God will judge the world by one Christ Jesus. But from the cross till then I am certain that God has no intention of nuking america to get the christians to pray.

There was some religious personality, forgot the name, who also prognosticated this for 2006. I believe the president may have known about it from what i understood. We have to consider the source with these kind of statements. I happen to catch him on tv yesterday and looks like he is doing some kind of cooking show. Just seems weird to say something as devastating as that and then see him share recipes with an apron.

When i read the OT prophets, i take that personally. God can do whatever He wants to discipline us individually or any nation. It would not surprise me if this kind of scenario happens some day/year. We are at His mercy even when we get on the freeway. I pray we are ready for the Kingdom.

I

I have read them. And whilst they are profitable for reproof, correction, and instuction in righteousness they were written before God was in Christ reconcilling the world to himself.

so does Christ's coming and dying exempt us from judgement here and now? Brethren do we believe that sacrifice of Christ keeps God from disciplining us when we need it? if so how far we have come from understanding the sacrifce of the cross! If God the Father didn't spare Israel from judgment in the days of old under a lesser covenant, how much less will we be spared judgment now that we are under the blood of Christ?grace is not there to be used as an excuse to sin but to keep us from sinning. grace does not exempt us from judgment but actually makes the judgment harsher because we have no excuse.

check this out bro from hebrews chapt 10

. 26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

God spared not Israel and He will certainly not spare us because thos covenant is the final one.after this there is no salvation. Remember that these letters were written not to the world but to the Church! where is is written:

The Lord shall judge his people.

the word is not talking about the world, it's talking about us! do we think that the evil we do goes unnoticed or that there is no recompense from God? this is a mockery of the justice of God, if we are not judged then why should the world be judged? We who are called by His name ought to know better and do better than we are surely. have we not Holy SPirit? Has God not furnished all we need to avoid sin?

in 2 Peter 4 17 the word says:

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

and in the Revelation before anything jumps off, before any seal is broken turning loose the judgments of God the Church is clearly the initial recipient of the judgment of God. that means judgment on THIS side of heaven brethren? let us not delude ourselves nor be deceived, God is not in the business of letting transgressions go without consequence. indeed we are forgiven if we repent, but there is always recompense/consequence for sin forgiven or not.

There will come a day of jugment in which God will judge the world by one Christ Jesus. But from the cross till then I am certain that God has no intention of nuking america to get the christians to pray.

didn't Christ also say that not one jot or tittle of the law would be done away with?so do you think then that while we are on this side how we live doesn't matter as long as we are saved? :-o do you think that there is no judgment while on this side? no correction from God from our clear straying from His statutes? :-? the nuking/judgment of America and the world is because we have strayed from His Paths in spite of grace! that is why the judgement which is coming is much harsher than any ever before, why the coming tribulation is described as being unlike anything ever seen before, we are covered in the blood of Christ and yet we treat it as aprofane thing by sinning wantonly. this judgment will be the most harsh because the price given for this covenant was the highest ever and indeed the highest there could be paid. God does not take lightly the trodding on if Christ's blood and that can only be done by believers because they are covered.

If so; what on earth is the point of this age that we live in? How is it any different to any other age.

ahhh this is a good question! in Ephesians 3 we find the answer to the reason not only for the age we live in but for all creation. we live in the Church age so:

Christ; 9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: 10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, 11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

our Lord has seen fit to show His wisdom to the principalities and powers through us. He didn't think it to extravagant to create and allow things to come out as they have, He purposed all that was, is and is to come to this end. we are at the heart of that plan to bring Him glory...whoa...Part of that is His righteous judgment and that is in itself a great mercy because we suffer for a time and repent rather than go along and suffer for all eternity...

I saw a thing about 10 yrs ago (even before Bush was president) pretaining to President Bush. The thing was true but the time was far away and I had to wait. Something will happen in either the 7th or 8th year, and I'm not sure if it is against America or against him, reguardless, it will come to no avail, For I saw such a man who took a bow and arrow and smote the fallen angel that did stalk the president, and it (angel) was no more. I personally have trouble with prophesy or foretelling of events where a time stamp is attached, even if I'm the one giving it, therefore I am all the more cautious about sharing specifics. As to Pat Roberts? I wouldn't call him a prophet, he does move in some of the giftings, but that doesn't make him a prophet. He has also spoken foolishly at times, he just happens to have a platform and that gets him plenty of attention, that's all. I think it's a good time for the body of Christ to draw very close to Jesus and use what ever resources they have to invest in eternal things, even if that means they sell all they have and become ministers to the poor. Our time is short. We need to make every day count.

There is a difference in having a gift of the Holy Spirit manifest such as prophesy, anyone in the body of Christ can have that gifting happen through them, however to be a Gift to the body such as the five fold ministry is entirely a different thing. I personally think Pat has certain giftings that he's exercised in but isn't a prophet per se'.

Praise Jesus!!! Lion of Judah!!

i noticed several references to God going nuclear. This is some thing HE does not do. It is something HE allows.

Let me try to explain my understanding. As i see God and HIS dealings with HIS creation.

God either causes or allows everything and HE is personally involved in even small situations.

HE is the God of the tempest and the earthquake. HE is the maker of weather and geological events.

HE allows man free will to choose good or evil and HE allows evil to dwell in the hearts of men.

An event such as hurricane Katrina is something God caused (a direct judgment).

The terrorist attacks on New York, Washington, were allowed. They were caused by men with evil, Satanically inspired intentions.

And God cares about the small stuf He did not just spin the world into motion and walk away. HE is aware of the sparrow which falls to earth.

This any way is how i understand God and how HE judges things. If we are nuked God allowed it (most certainly) but HE did not do it directly.

I don't think so. When he got it right he may have just been lucky and accidental or ... making commentary. This is by and large newspaper theology, not any different than what those who watch the stock market do, gathering up information and making an educated guess. But prophecy? Forget it. That one can go backwards and start extrapolating out the 'hit's from the 'misses' ... This is all rather absurd.

I am longing to hear the prophet open and shut his mouth at the same time and then the thing comes to pass.

Here is quite a sobering part of a article written by Don Currin:

"In a 1980 interview, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones was asked the question, "What do you think Christianity ought to say to the economic situation today?" He answered, "I think the great message we must preach is God's judgment on men and on the world." Dr. Lloyd-Jones went on to underscore the importance of this message when he said, "The condition of the modern world proves that what we must preach more than ever is "Escape from the wrath to come!" Later in the interview, Lloyd-Jones was asked whether or not Christian influence could produce a Christian culture. To which the preacher replied, "No. It will never come. All Scripture is against that. It's impossible. In the present world situation-it has never been more critical-all civilization is rocking, and we are facing collapse, morally, politically, and in every other way. I would have thought that surely at this time our urgent message should be, 'Flee from the wrath to come!"

As the interview came to a close, Martyn Lloyd-Jones was asked, "What parting word have you for the secular man or woman who does not take Jesus Christ seriously?" To which the man of God replied, "Flee from the wrath to come and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ".

At 80 years of age, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones understood that the answer to man's economic, moral, and spiritual plights was to take refuge in Christ's finished work from the rapidly approaching eternal storm. After years of observing the spiritual declension of his own country and witnessing the futility of man's attempts to improve the conditions of the economy and church, he knew that the only answer to man's social and spiritual ills was Jesus Christ. is there really such a thing as luck or a situation in which God doesn't preside over? Perhaps it may not have been Pat's intent to necessarily say some of what he has said in the past as prophecy, perhaps he should not have. i never said he was a prophet either nor am i saying that pat is a prophet. once again it seems the focus is on predicting the future but that is a small part of what a prophet is.

bro Mike, if you know Jeremiah you will know that he worked in the palace. Daniel also worked in the palace of the king of babylon. these men were not ignorant of what was going on in the land of Israel or in some of the nations around Israel at all. the knew what was going on. however they saw these things in the context of what God was doing and expressed it as such in an effort to get Israel to repent. JOhn the revelator was aware of what the roman empire was doing and what was going on in the churches he was told to write to but he saw it in the context of God's judgment first on His Church, then the world and then His final return.

I am longing to hear the prophet open and shut his mouth at the same time and then the thing comes to pass.

Ezekiel spent about 7 years taking about the destruction of Jerusalem. Jeremiah spoke for a large portion of his life until israel was sacked. the message of repentance to me is not one which can be said once and left alone because evidently God doesn't think so because that call tends to fall on deaf ears even though the intended are God's own people.

in the O.T. our Lord used the heathen nations to punish Israel referring to babylon as His hammer and sword. God the Father is not above chastening us harshly by any means He sees fit be it through creation or using men.

The terrorist attacks on New York, Washington, were allowed. They were caused by men with evil, Satanically inspired intentions.

why were they allowed? could it be that the same satanic spirit which was on babylon and spurred them to attack and destroy Israel? that was judgment from God you know... :-o i have no doubt that those men were satanically inspired, Islam is a religion of the devil, that is a superficial observation but there is more to it than just that. however what did that event have to do with God and how does it fit into what God is doing? is God trying to communicate something? this is the thing we ought to ask when we see things happen:

how does this fit into God's plan for us all?

We are to be the salt of the earth and when we fail at our being salt the nations around us become more wicked. Therefore it is the responsibility of the Church to be that agent of change, we need to humble ourselves and pray. What is stopping us? what is stopping you?

If your statement is entirely true, then we will have to blame Noah for the wickedness on the Earth at the time of the flood. Noah was a preacher of righteousness, so I am sure he prayed. Was it Noah's fault that God still had to judge the world?

I completely agree with you that we need to cry out to God for lost men and women. But we do not pray for them because some impending judgment is supposedly coming upon America or some other country. We do not pray for them based upon the political and economic situation in our respective countries. We do not pray for them because of coming judgment.

We pray for them because they are judged already!
According to Jesus, they are condemned already!

According to the scripture, any man or woman outside of Christ is:

dead in the trespasses and sins
an enemy of God
completely unrighteous
full of cursing and bitterness
etc.

Mankind, apart from Christ, is already in the grave.

If we really want to have a burden, forget nuclear weapons and Iran and Islam. Forget(as it has been said) "NEWSPAPER THEOLOGY".

Sit back and meditate upon the state of most of the people that we interact with on a daily basis.

Most of these people, if they are not in Christ, are DEAD. They are completely cut off from God. And, unless God has mercy upon them and, by His Spirit, He quickens them and brings them to life, they will die that way and suffer eternal torment.
UNLESS GOD HAS MERCY ON A MAN HE REMAINS DEAD IN HIS GRAVE IN TRESPASSES AND SINS!

When it comes to the Church, and God's judgment upon the Church, I think some of these preachers are more angry than God.

Let me ask you a question...

When did God call us to Himself? Who were we in relation to Him when He saved us.

Surely if God wanted to judge us, surely if God wanted to beat us down and declare that we were prayer less and that we deserve judgment just like Sodom and Gomorrah, surely He would have done that when we HATED HIM. When we were HIS ENEMIES!

He reconciled us to Himself while we were YET His ENEMIES!

Yes, He chastens us. AS SONS AND DAUGHTERS! His chastening is all apart of the process of sanctification. And, actually, many Christians experience the chastening of God when they feel they are walking closest to God.

Gods' chastening is an inevitable part of us being conformed to His image.

All you have to do is look at Paul and see how he dealt with the Corinthian Church. What was rampant in that Church? Fornication, division, strife, worldliness, etc.

What did Paul do? Did he say, If you do not repent God is going to cut you off? Your sins are worse than Sodom and Gomorrah and so God has to judge you.

No... He taught them. He first reminded them of who they are in Christ, and then he taught them on how to deal with those in the Church who are living in sin. He dealt with them as a Father deals with His sons. This is how God deals with His Church.

If we want to see when Paul was really upset, we can look at Galatians. What made Paul upset?
What caused Paul to say God would cut men off. (Anathema)

A false Gospel based upon the works of the flesh.

I think that the majority of this prognosticating is a distraction from the Gospel and the preaching of Christ.

If your statement is entirely true, then we will have to blame Noah for the wickedness on the Earth at the time of the flood. Noah was a preacher of righteousness, so I am sure he prayed. Was it Noah's fault that God still had to judge the world?

well not necessarily, Noah preached righteousness and nobody listened so it wasn't his fault. God at no point in God's dealing with Noah did He say that He would spare the world, that was a moot issue. but we see in later times where prayers of intercession have prevented disaster for a season. For us however we must ask, have we preached righteousness as we ought? you said yourself later on that many of those around us are not in Christ and we have not preached to them. This is the thing right here. the world is wicked, no doubt, it is inherently wicked, however those of us who have been saved are partly to blame for the continuing wickedness because we have not wholly lived as we ought. our hypocrisies condemn us and give the world occasion to blaspheme God and this is displeasing to God and so even us His Church are ripe for the judgement also which comes before that of the world.

I completely agree with you that we need to cry out to God for lost men and women. But we do not pray for them because some impending judgment is supposedly coming upon America or some other country. We do not pray for them based upon the political and economic situation in our respective countries. We do not pray for them because of coming judgment.

i agree with you here, the idea that we pray to avert judgment smacks of a selfishness which is most insidious. we are to pray to seek and play a part in the coming of His kingdom which includes drawing souls to Himself. i don't think that anyone here seeks that we pray for anything less or other than the coming of the Kingdom or that we seek for anything which isn't sympathetic to God but ourselves.

Mankind, apart from Christ, is already in the grave.

that's right and the idea is to pray that God may be glorified through the salvation of these very lost ones.

When it comes to the Church, and God's judgment upon the Church, I think some of these preachers are more angry than God.

i think not. that's probably what Israel thought when the prophets were sent to them hence Israel repented not and was judged for Her transgression even though she is the covenant people of GOd.

If we really want to have a burden, forget nuclear weapons and Iran and Islam. Forget(as it has been said) "NEWSPAPER THEOLOGY".

well i think the thing to observe is that these events are not happening independant of approval from heaven so we need to see them in the light of what God is doing in the world now.

Surely if God wanted to judge us, surely if God wanted to beat us down and declare that we were prayer less and that we deserve judgment just like Sodom and Gomorrah, surely He would have done that when we HATED HIM. When we were HIS ENEMIES!

actually the judgment for us is that much more harsh because of the Blood of the Cross. if we come to Christ and trample His blood as said here in Hebrews chapt 10

31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

remember Israel? God didn't spare her judgment when she transgressed and He will not spare the Church either but will chasten us as He needs to to conform us to the image of Christ.God don't change. see also the letters to the 7 Churches in the Revelation. if the judgements threatened to 5 of them applied then, they apply now to us also.

What did Paul do? Did he say, If you do not repent God is going to cut you off? Your sins are worse than Sodom and Gomorrah and so God has to judge you.

Paul reminded the Churches of the need to return to what they did at first. John straight up told them in the letters to the 7 Churches what would happen to them if they didn't shape up. by that time it was already past the stage of talking so they got warned that judgement would come because they didn't listen to what Paul said years before.

I think that the majority of this prognosticating is a distraction from the Gospel and the preaching of Christ.

The Gospel also means that while there is salvation, we dare not take the Blood of Christ as a profane thing and we need to be serious about our relationship with God. if we look at what happenned to Israel when she goofed off, we have some idea of what NOT to do and if we do, what may happen. Judgment begins at the house of God...then it hits the world

Dear Ironman i did not mean to infer that God does not use one nation to judge another. Of course HE does. HE used the Hebrews to judge Canaan, the Assyrians to judge Israel, Babylon to judge Judah and Persia to judge Babylon etc.

Not only has HE done this HE will do this again. HE does not change and the way HE deals with nations does not change. i believe that this nation (America) is under judgment now. And i believe HE will most probably use China and North Korea as HIS instruments of judgment.

My comments earlier were meant to show the difference between God dealing directly with nations (acts of God, natural disasters) and indirectly through Satan (war, terrorism etc)
and also to profess my belief that HE is neither unknowing or uncaring of even the smallest of things.

With all due respect Bro Ironman, you cannot take a section of scripture out of the context of the Book of Hebrews, and the 10th chapter of Hebrews, and declare that that is how God judges His church.

The writer of Hebrews was writing to Jewish believers that were coming under persecution because they had believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and, of course, turned away from the old temple and the sacrifices and turned to the One, True and Final Sacrifice...Jesus Christ.

The writer's main point was to show the Superiority of the New Covenant in Christ's blood.

In Chapter 10 the writer was showing that Christ was the substance to all the types and shadows of those old sacrifices. He was showing them that Jesus was the fulfillment of all of the old covenant.

He said God did not find any pleasure in the blood of bulls and goats. The blood of bulls and goats could never take away sin.

He required a body...a man...someone that would do His will completely!

God required someone that would obey Him even to death...yes the death of the Cross. And it is by that Perfect Sacrifice that we have been sanctified.

One, Perfect, Final, Sacrifice. The FINISHED WORK of Christ. This WORK has perfected them forever that are sanctified.
----------------------------------------
The believing Jews that were being persecuted were forsaking the Sacrifice of Christ and going back to the old covenant.

They were forsaking the Substance and going back to the type and shadow.

When they did this it was an abomination. The willful sin they were committing was going back to the old sacrifices. There was no forgiveness in the old sacrifices even when the old covenant was still in place. It was only as a man or woman put their faith in the coming Messiah that their sins were forgiven.

Much more after God did away with the old covenant and established the New Covenant. If a man turns away from the Blood of Christ and returns to the blood of bulls and goats, he tramples underfoot the Son of God and counts the blood of the New Covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing.

Forgiveness does not await that man. The only thing that awaits that man is a "fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation."

He goes on to exhort them to keep their confidence in Christ, and he reminds them that the Just Shall Live By Faith...under the old covenant and the New! That is the way it has always been ..."The Just(ified) Shall Live By Faith!

remember Israel? God didn't spare her judgment when she transgressed and He will not spare the Church either but will chasten us as He needs to to conform us to the image of Christ.God don't change.

Though we can look back and learn tremendous lessons from the Nation of Israel we do have to remember that Israel, as a nation, was under a different covenant than we are. As a nation, they made a covenant with God at Mount Sinai, and that covnenant, and the blessings of that covenant, were based upon their obedience, as a Nation, to the commands of God.

As Moses told them (paraphase):

If you do this, you will live!
If you do this, you will die!

That was the essence of the Sinaiatic covenant.
As a nation, they had life and blessing from God, based upon thier obedience.

Not so with us!

Under the New Covenant 1 John says:

He that has the Son HAS LIFE...

Hebrews says we have not come to Mt Sinai, but Mt. Zion.

Paul reminded the Churches of the need to return to what they did at first

No... if you go back and read, even in 1 Corinthians, the first thing Paul does is tell them the Gospel again. He tells them the good things that God has already done for them, and then he exhorts them to obedience.

Paul was not ashamed of the Gospel becuase he knew, by experience, that it was the power of God unto salvation.

Salvation includes Justification, Sanctification, Glorification. The Gospel, the Good News of what God had done in Christ, will carry us through until we see Him face to face. This was Paul's theology. This was Paul's methodology.

The Gospel also means that while there is salvation, we dare not take the Blood of Christ as a profane thing and we need to be serious about our relationship with God.

No...the Gospel means one thing -

The Good News of what God has done FOR US in Christ!

That is what the Gospel means!

Now the law has a purpose. The law can reveal our sin to us. The law can convict us and drive us back to Christ if we have fallen.

But the Gospel, the True Gospel, has but one purpose.

To make us free, so that we can walk with God in liberty!

Dear Compton,

when I read this, before I looked over and saw where you live, I thought you must live in Alabama. Sounds real familiar.

G

Dear Taco,

When you say there will be no nuclear attacks, Are you prophecying?

G
Goldminer

Dear his remnant,

I read a message by Rick Joyner about 9/11 attack. He said people could call it many things and debate it's origin, but he believed that if people don't want God and refuse to ask His presence then He honors the desires of men's hearts. Therefore the rejection of God causes His hand of protection to be removed and events like 9/11 and Katrina take place. I know that N.Y.(and I know that there are many godly folks in N.Y. like wonderful David Wilkerson)has allowed homosexuals to parade openly down it'streets and the same week Katrina happened they had a preverse celebration called Southern Decedence scheduled. The same cities reject prayer in schools, etc. We as a society by in large have refused to welcome Him in our midst. Here in Alabama Judge Roy Moore was made to take the ten commandments out of the court house. Visible society doesn't want to retain God in their lives, therefore rejecting Him, His hand of protection is removed and the devil or our own sowing has free reign, unless we humble ourselves and repent.

Unfortunately only small numbers of the body of Christ has taken our responsibility for this scripture seriously, and I'm certainly not patting myself on the back on this one.

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

We need to determine how important it really is to us before we allow the enemy to take any more ground. How much do we really grieve and bleed over what is happening around us? How bad do we really want our land to be healed. What price are we willing to pay?

I thought this made sense. What do your think?

T

When you say there will be no nuclear attacks, Are you prophecying?

No.

Theoreticaly, of course it could happen. Just like in theory Canada could invade the US this year.

But, common sense renders it pretty unlikley.

When people come out with these dire warnings they will always stir a few people up. Later on they will rationalize them by saying that "God's timing is different", "it happened spiritualy" or "i usualy get it right but was wrong this time". This is nonsense- what is the value of such predictions if they can be so easily dismissed.

On a related thread Ravehill is quoted as saing that America would be destroyed in a couple of years( this was in the 80s I think) What is the point of a statement like that? It was wrong plain and simple.

I will bump this thread in Jan '08 just to remind us all that no nuclear attacks (or other similar thing causing the death of millions) happened and Robertson's predictions were rubbish. Of course there could be natural disastors, of course there could be a terrorist organisation that manages to kill hundreds or even thousands of people. But they wont do as a get out clause for Robertson.

A nuclear bomb on the US could happen, just like it could have happened 30 years ago. But Pat Robertson has proven to be a false prophet. I'll probably get hammered for making such a judgement call, but to put it simply if someone makes a prophecy and it turns out to be false, that makes them a false prophet.

Pat has come out with some absurd things in the past few years. Personally I think he should consider retirement.

I indeed wonder if people check out the predictions of those that call themselves prophets to see if they come true. When a man says, "such and such is going to happen at such and such a time" and it doesn't happen, to me, that person is a false prophet, a liar, plain and simple. That man should repent, confess his wrong, and not do it again.
I mean what is it with some of these abundantly wealthy televangilists thinking they can say, "God told me..." How can you refute a statement like that unless in the end it found to not come true.
Up here in Canada, there's all kinds of prophetic nuts. One thing that is popular these days is that some are declaring the prophetic voice of God across the nation like Mr Dick Dewart, President of the MiracleChannel here in Canada. Here is one of his many "prophetic" comments: "Last year, the Holy Spirit directed us to release specific decrees in the meetings on Parliament Hill; the reverberations of which are still being felt across the nation. This year, I believe that we shall see the glorious splendor of His kingdom in the conferences. Once again we have gathered Canadian and International leaders to corporately release new dimensions of the Kingdom realm and to activate a new degree of authority upon the church." This quote was found here I see kingdom theology all over this. What do you think... a few fries short of a happy-meal, or is this true biblical prophecy? I don't see Dewart's type of prophecy mentioned in the Bible.
Back to Robertson for a quick second... Here's a hyper-link to where Pat said a tsunami might hit the US Northwest coast. ANd here's a hyper-link where Pat predicts a late 2007 terroist attack.
I never read in God's Word where a true prophet of God predicted anything. First, the Word of the Lord came to them, and then they spoke it to whom the Lord commanded them to.
Much of these "wanna-be" prophetic movements, are to my opinion, the product of a controlling, manipulating, lying spirit and people who are self-seeking starving for attention.
But, I will say this...that I am not against flesh and blood but against the powers of darkness that are using such men as false prophets so the Word of God can be blasphemed amongest the nations.
Let us not be naive in these last days, but test the spirits, being harmless as doves and as wise as serpents.

Something related that I have been thinking about, but was Jonah a 'false prophet' when he prophecied Nineveh's destruction?

The answer appears to be no because he said what the Lord told him to say, but that appears to contradict Deuteronomy 18:22

'When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.'

Just wondering. I know they repented, but Jonah doesn't say 'unless you repent' (as far as we know)

Peter

It is strongly implied that destruction was coming to Ninevah if they didnt repent. This is consistent with other OT prophets... there was a threat of destruction IF the people didnt repent (a warning) with a promise of blessing should they repent.

And in actuality, Ninevah was eventually completely destroyed... so it did come to them in time, however it was delayed because of that generation's repenting. So either way you want to look at it, Jonah's prophecy did come to fruition.

There were no ifs, no mention of repentance, and no promise of blessing in Jonah’s recorded sermon!

thanks for your response and showing me some more things from that scripture which i'd neglected. i never said that this was HOW God would judge the Church but that it is evidence to me that God WOULD judge the Church. If the Jews returned to the old ways of sacrifice etc, there could be no remission of sin right? what about for us, if we return to the former things which we did can we really expect there to be no consequence? The sacrifice of Christ doesn't give us license to return to the mess we were in and expect there to be no consequences.

Israel was indeed under a different covenant but what did Christ say? He didn't come to ABOLISH the law but to FULFIL it and not one JOT NOR TITTLE of the word of God would pass away. also God is the same yesterday, today and forever, if He judged then, He will judge nations yet. The law is yet in effect but now we have the forgiveness of sins through the sacrifice of Christ and we have Holy Spirit to help us live out the law however, it is not by the law that we are justified.

No... if you go back and read, even in 1 Corinthians, the first thing Paul does is tell them the Gospel again. He tells them the good things that God has already done for them, and then he exhorts them to obedience.

i did leave out the part about reminding them of the gospel but he did tell/exhort them to return to the things they did at first, ie obedience to the gospel. sorry bro, should have been clearer on that.

The Good News of what God has done FOR US in Christ!

this is true but what i was getting at was that knowing what was done on the cross for us, we ought not take that lightly lest we crucify Christ anew like Paul said.

To make us free, so that we can walk with God in liberty!

yes and not walk in sin as we did in the past. whether on this side of the New Covenant or the other, we can expect there to be consequences for our sin lest we lose sight of the gravity of them and grieve God all the more.

what about what Christ said to the 7 Churches in the Revelation? to me either way you look at it, we are the Church and if Christ spoke those words, we need to check ouselves and see if we have left our first love, tolerate Jezebel or are in some may in danger of a judgment from HIm.

i guess if someone said thatin 40 days your city would be reduced to ashes, it would compell you to repent, i know probably a lot of people would repent. God's response to that is to stay His hand, well at least when the offending parties repent sincerely as they did in nineveh. what JOnah said did come to pass eventually. Jonah was upset when nineveh repented and God spared her, perhaps it was a big lesson for Jonah on God's mercy...perhaps it's a big lesson for us all.

Considering that Ninevah wasnt destroyed when they repented, and that Jonah was upset that Got didnt destroy them... then it was God's intention for them to turn to Him, not to necessarily destroy them.

To say that God vowed to destroy them regardless of whether or not they repented, yet didnt, is to say God is a liar and a vow breaker. I dont think you believe that any more than I do. Therefore, we can deduce that He had their repentence in mind, and not destruction.

Sometimes we have to think these things thru.

thanks Krispy I agree with you entirely, I am not saying that God was/is a liar by any means. Of course He was always after the people's repentance. I suppose I was just thinking that perhaps I shouldn't be too hasty to judge prophecies/prophets such as Robertson or anyone else. The case of Jonah shows that as a consequence of repentance God didn't destroy the people, despite having allowed His prophet to say that He would.

I know that is hard to tie up with Deuterony 18, and I am not saying I can, but there is an truth in Jonah which is that God allowed His prophet to pronounce destruction while in the knowledge that the people would repent and that the destruction would not come to pass.

It shows that God can in some circumstances allow things to be stated that He knows will not come to pass, in this case because of repentance.

It's a personal subject for me, having allowed myself to resent a person who spoke prophetically into a situation close to me and which doesn't appear to have been true. I believe that the Lord showed me to let it go and leave the judgement to Him.

The Jews in chapter 10 ARE the Church. They are us! They are believing Jews who, because of persecution, either intend to, or have returned to the old sacrifices for the forgiveness of their sins.
A gentile believer, at that time, would, of course, not be tempted to return to the old sacrifices because they were never subject to them in the first place.

Therefore, a christian falling into sin cannot be compared to a christian trying to seek forgiveness apart from Jesus Christ.

"All warfare is based on deception."
-- Sun Tzu, The Art of War --

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him.

When are God's people going to wake up we are in a war.

Matt 24:11 And many false prophets shall arise, and shall lead many astray.

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always: again I will say, Rejoice.
5 Let your forbearance be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

At this time we have to
1. Rejoice
2. Forbearance OR be Patient The Lord is at Hand.
3. In nothing be anxious
4. Pray and bring everything to God.

Know if you do this the peace of God that surpasses all understanding shall guard your hearts.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Luke 21:26 men fainting for fear, and for expectation of the things which are coming on the world: for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.

What is Fear: A feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger.

I believe what many are calling a dread, a witness, a knowing that somethinG bad is going to happen an expectation of what is coming is FEAR.

Thats why the false has been sent out in droves to cause deception. It trying to cover up the truth.

Psalm 64:1 Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint: Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

The only thing we should fear is God.

The believer's fear is reverence of God

Heb 12:28-29 Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe for our God is a consuming fire.

Krispy, in order for Pat Robertson to rise to the level of false prophet, he would have to "show great signs and wonders." you are giving him too much credit.

Too much credit indeed... That's why prophecying has grown without restraint. We don't care that none of these predictions ever come to pass...we just need to believe we can know the circumstances of our futures.

Prophecy is the area of strongest superstition in our churches today. Many Christians are afraid to dissent even though the prophetic project has proven to be quite unreliable and ultimately useless for direction. Sadly, fascination for 'words' has replaced earnest biblical discipline and scholarship even with many of our own heroes.

And we say we want the Old Paths. Our ancestors built universities around the bible. Theology was the prince among all other fields of scholarship. When America was young, her Christians were her most rational and industrious citizens, leading in fields of science, education and social reform. Today we show contempt for serious scholarship, and disrespect for accreditation of our teachers and pastors, preferring instead dreams and visions from anyone and everyone. Sometimes it seems we are becoming a race of chicken littles just when those in our lives need our intelligence, discipline, and leadership.

Edit for question...is Pat Robertson really so different then the rest of our prophetic agencies? Perhaps he is only among the most visible.

Robertson said God told him during a recent prayer retreat that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September.
Did God tell him or someone in his prayer retreat tell him? This guy is a joke!

Krispy, in order for Pat Robertson to rise to the level of false prophet, he would have to "show great signs and wonders." you are giving him too much credit.

When Pat Robertson gives prophecies he is acting as a prophet of God... and most of the time (as far as I can tell... all the time) he is wrong. Therefore he is a false prophet.

If he aint a true prophet then he is a false prophet.

Pat Robertson Predicts Worldwide Violence, U.S. Recession in 2008

Wednesday, January 02, 2008

NORFOLK, Va. — Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson predicted Wednesday that 2008 will be a year of violence worldwide and a recession in the United States, followed by a major stock-market crash by 2010.

Sharing what he believes God has told him about the year ahead is an annual tradition for Robertson.

On Wednesday's "700 Club" broadcast, the founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network predicted that evangelism will increase and more people will seek God as the chaos develops. Robertson said, "We will see the presence of angels and we will see an intensification of miracles around the world."

Last year, Robertson predicted that a terrorist act, possibly involving a nuclear weapon, would result in mass killing in the United States. Noting that it hadn't come to pass, Robertson said, "All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed and God in his mercy spared us."

So, there you have it. Enough people prayed about Pat's previous prophesy for 2007 and we didn't get nuked. Pat saved the day by predicting disaster and thus motivating people to ask God to withhold the terrible suffering that would result from a nuclear bomb. I, for one, am going to send him my life savings in gratitude.

In order for Pat Robertson to rise to the level of anti-christ, he would have to show great signs and wonders.

What bothers me about these endless false prophets...there is no conviction of sin, no SHAME, but MORE LIES to cover up the last ones....and shame on anyone who believes these lies and exuses this behavior!!
(edited)....

Lying is Lying....thou shall NOT LIE or bear false witness....thou shall not take the Lord thy God's name in vain. Do you know THIS IS taking the Lords name in vain.

Yes, the Law is written in our Hearts!

Does God make a fool out of Himself? NO!!!! Does God MOCK Himself?

Bubba... you and I are on the same page. Can you believe it?? I thought exactly the same thing you did when I read that on Foxnews.com.

Funny thing about this is... in the OT when the people responded in a way that persuaded God to turn away His wrath it was generally the WHOLE nation that turned back to God. I dont even see the church in America turning back to God, much less the nation... yet the wrath that Pat Robertson was prophecying would come is 10 times worse than what was prophecied in the OT.

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but most of the time in the OT when God's wrath on Israel was prophecied... promises were also made. Promises of "If you turn back to me...". Is Robertson doing this? I'm not sure, thats why I am asking. If so, can he really say with a straight face that the church in America has turned back to God?

(BTW... I know I probably sound like I am contradicting myself concerning the church in America and a few conversations I had with Jim before Christmas. Please note that I have never denied that the Church in America is in apostacy for the most part, and deperately in need of revival.)

Katy-Did

you are right, PR's annual predictions, labeled as prophecy, are akin to blasphemy, if not the real thing. i think he missed his true calling: should have been a weather forecaster.

if a person needs more than (or, is not satisfied with) the promise of Salvation thru the life, sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, then are they really a Christian?

I can respnd, and I will somewhat lean in the realm or the issue that the God in Christ can allow for a generation, a people or even a NAtion can be subject to absolute destruction if God so allows.

Let us take a look at the Tsunami incident, Katrina(my family and I were personally affected), or any sort of destruction no matter how large or small, God is the one who allows!!!!

God will judge by the righteousness of Christ, that is, his word! We all stand weighing in HIs balances....

Blessed be the Savior God forever.

Brother Taco, do not put God in a box of grace and mercy, There is love and mercy in Judgment also
