Isn't Jesus wonderful!

H
Here4Him

Saints, it is great disccussing all kinds of doctrinal issues etc but here i am listening to the song 'Turn your eyes upon Jesus' and oh it just moves my heart. Isn't Jesus wonderful?!!

Oh to God that we never lose our love for Him, that we post more threads on SI about Him, that we grow in the love of Christ.

Why dont we just discuss how wonderful He is?

Lets have a thread about Jesus, lets talk about Him, and may it cause our hearts to be warmed with love for Him.

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus look into His wonderful face, and the things of the world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glorious grace"

Of course He is wonderful!

I don't think anyone will disagree with this.

Yes i was dry too, but O how lovely it is to think on Jesus again, to be mindful of Him, yes how it fills the heart with love and the eyes with tears. There is no one like our Lord, there is no one like Jesus! "To you who believe He is precious".

Yes sister of course, but isn't it nice to remind ourselves, to just talk about Him? We talk about so many other things on here (good things), so can't we talk about our Saviour? state the obvious if you will.

Talk to me about Jesus, tell me what you love about Him... I need to think on Him, meditate on Him, i soon forget His loveliness to my shame

Praise Jesus for:

-the fact that He uses a sinful mess like me to encourage others.
-the mere fact that WE have the privelege and blessing to serve Him daily, to come into His presence.
-His saving blood poured out for me, that I can boldly approach God's eternal throne because of what HE did.
-being able to praise Him!

Tis mystery all, the Immortal dies,
who can explore His strange design?
In vain the first-born seraph tries
to sound the depths of love divine.
Tis mercy all, let earth adore,
let angel minds enquire no more.

No condemnation now I dread,
Jesus and all in Him is mine.
Alive in Him, my living Head,
and clothed in righteousness divine.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
and claim the crown through Christ my own!

He is good.

One of my favourite hymns seems to fit here:

With harps and with vials, there stand a great throng
In the presence of Jesus, and sing this new song:

Refrain
Unto Him Who hath loved us and washed us from sin,
Unto Him be the glory forever, Amen.

All these once were sinners, defiled in His sight,
Now arrayed in pure garments in praise they unite:

Refrain

He maketh the rebel a priest and a king,
He hath bought us and taught us this new song to sing:

Refrain

How helpless and hopeless we sinners had been,
If He never had loved us till cleansed from our sin:

Refrain

Aloud in His praises our voices shall ring,
So that others believing, this new song shall sing:

Refrain

Heaven's anthem can start here and now, and we'll be still singing it when we get there!!!

I am not as eloquent or knowledgeable as most who post here, so I usually just come here and read. But when I saw this topic, I couldn't help myself....

I was thinking just last week about this song
"Turn your eyes upon Jesus look into His wonderful face, and the things of the world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glorious grace" And I was thinking, why should it be strange that worldly things grow dim? Shouldn't that be normal? And so my prayer has been that nothing would every outshine Him in my affections. Because He is wonderful. And just the thought that in all His kingly glory, He still smiles upon me is quite overwhelming.

Jesus is the Lover of my soul!

---
Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.

Wilt Thou not regard my call? Wilt Thou not accept my prayer?
Lo! I sink, I faint, I fall—Lo! on Thee I cast my care;
Reach me out Thy gracious hand! While I of Thy strength receive,
Hoping against hope I stand, dying, and behold, I live.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want, more than all in Thee I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is Thy Name, I am all unrighteousness;
False and full of sin I am; Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found, grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art, freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart; rise to all eternity.

Amen brother!

'Littlegift', i too love that hymn, especially the chorus:

Unto Him Who hath loved us and washed us from sin, unto Him be the glory forever Amen
.

They sing that especially well in Wales, i have sang that a few times at the Aber conference or in Geoff Thomas' church.

Dani, i am so glad you posted this time, you said:

why should it be strange that worldly things grow dim? Shouldn't that be normal? And so my prayer has been that nothing would every outshine Him in my affections. Because He is wonderful.

You are so right, i have made a habit in my life of letting over things steal my affections, how wicked this is, how insulting to Christ, how it robs God. I think if we can turn away from other rival affections and worldly amusments whatever it might be, we will be freed to value and appreciate the priceless treasure that is the Person of Christ. Oh lets encourage each other to do this- may Jesus always have our hearts, passions, affections, mind and desires.

And sister Ronyia, thank you, that is truly a wonderful soul refreshing hymn, i love it!

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me. All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring; Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.

Is there any better way to express the cry of our hearts or they essence of true saving faith in Jesus?

And i love verse 4, especially the first line.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want, more than all in Thee I find;

Oh that this might constantly be my experience. To enjoy and treasure the riches of Christ, to count all else rubbish but to know Him.

Please keep them coming! Lets keep talking about our Jesus. What we love about Him, what He has done for us, our wonderful He is, and how precious!

Isn't it a small world! I used to go to Geoff Thomas's church sometimes, when a student in Aberystwyth! (late 1960's, and again in the late 1970's)

I found Geoff T a bit too "Reformed Calvinist" to cope with except in small doses, and his constant jigging about while preaching was distracting, but he was a good chap.

Do you know if he's still around?

That's amazing!

You're not Welsh are you? How did you cope in such a hotbed of nationalism as Aber? A theology student once said he was sorry for me because I can't speak Welsh! (Coming from South East Wales, the anglicised industrial valleys, I never had a chance to learn)

Jeannette, it was me who talked about Geoff Thomas. He is still there at the same church,still preaching in those wonderful eloquent tones! I cant say i would agree with him on everything, but i have enjoyed hearing him preach each year i have gone to the aber conference, cos He does preach Christ, and lifts up Christ. I remember one year i was listening to him preach on one of the old welsh chapels, he preached on Christ, and it was so wonderful, it brought tears to my eyes. Then at the end we stood to sing the last hymn, and i will never forget it, it was a touch of heaven to my soul. We sang:

Thou art the everlasting Word,
The Father’s only Son;
God manifestly seen and heard,
And Heav’n’s belovèd one:

Refrain

Worthy, O Lamb of God, art Thou
That every knee to Thee should bow.

In Thee most perfectly expressed
The Father’s glories shine;
Of the full deity possessed,
Eternally divine:

Refrain

True image of the Infinite,
Whose essence is concealed;
Brightness of uncreated light;
The heart of God revealed:

Refrain

But the high mysteries of Thy Name
An angel’s grasp transcend;
The Father only—glorious claim!—
The Son can comprehend:

Refrain

Throughout the universe of bliss,
The center Thou, and sun;
Th’eternal theme of praise of this,
To Heav’n’s belovèd one:

Refrain

Maybe by now you've discovered they are songs? ;-)

Definitely listen to 'Wonderful Grace of Jesus'! I simply love it. (It's a fun setting to learn to sing.)

Here are the words as in the cyberhymnal:

Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Greater than all my sin;
How shall my tongue describe it,
Where shall its praise begin?
Taking away my burden,
Setting my spirit free;
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.

Refrain
Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea;
Wonderful grace, all sufficient for me, for even me.
Broader than the scope of my transgressions,
Greater far than all my sin and shame,
O magnify the precious Name of Jesus.
Praise His Name!

Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Reaching to all the lost,
By it I have been pardoned,
Saved to the uttermost,
Chains have been torn asunder,
Giving me liberty;
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.

Refrain

Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Reaching the most defiled,
By its transforming power,
Making him God’s dear child,
Purchasing peace and heaven,
For all eternity;
And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.

Refrain

Here4Him, here is a link to the tune you (probably) sung to 'Thou art the everlasting Word'

(If anyone knows where this tune is published in the UK currently, I'd appreciate the tip-off, thanks. 8-) )

This last year, I asked God to bring my mind up to speed with my spirit, because I feared I was not intellectually convinced of Jesus... I found it hard to point others to Him, because there seemed to be nothing solid in my mind to which to refer. :-? Well, He has given me more than I ever dreamed possible, in the form of revelations and visions, so I can never, now, feel I am taxing my imagination to describe His existence. Now, that sounds weird... but I know I do and did believe in Him ... It's just that it was all in spiritual terms, and I found it difficult to define Him to anyone outside. So, these changes (since He revealed Himself in new ways), have transformed my 'peace in believing' and given me great joy. :-D

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Brother Julian

I
InTheLight

Lets have a thread about Jesus, lets talk about Him, and may it cause our hearts to be warmed with love for Him.

Here's something from 2000+ Bible Illustrations that may warm your heart...
An artist can paint the physical hands and feet of our Lord, but he cannot paint the healing power of those hands and the godly walk of those feet. He can paint the outward suffering, but not the inward cause; the cursed tree, but not the curse of the law; the bearing of the cross, but not the bearing of the sins of His people; the cup of vinegar, but not the cup of wrath-the derision of His enemies and the forsaking of the Father.
Where is the artist who can paint one hand of Christ nailed to the cross and the other hand claiming an inheritance of believers?
Or who can paint our Lord bruising the serpent's head, conquering sin, death and the grave?
The artist can only portray blood and water flowing from Christ's side, but he cannot paint what the eye of faith sees in that blood: salvation and pardon.

H
Here4Him

InTheLight, thats a powerful quote, thanks.

I hope to hear more talk of Jesus, i think we as Christians can be very guilty of spending our time together disscussing doctrinal issues and this and that, but when do we just come together and say, 'can we talk about Jesus?'

Other than to say: Without HIM I would be nothing; With Him, I can do All Things that He asks of Me. Because of Him, I have the breath and the Life, to Present Him to everyone I encounter...so they too can be set Free to Worship Him.

And I began longing to pour out all of my life on Him. I can be so selfish, especially with my time. I say that I want all of Jesus, but I have all of Jesus. What is lacking is that He doesn't always have all of me. Oh that I might be poured out on Him as a fragrant offering. He is worthy of no less.

Immortal honors rest on Jesus’ head;
My God, my portion, and my Living Bread;
In Him I live, upon Him cast my care;
He saves from death, destruction, and despair.

He is my Refuge in each deep distress;
The Lord my strength and glorious righteousness;
Through floods and flames He leads me safely on,
And daily makes His sovereign goodness known.

My every need He richly will supply;
Nor will His mercy ever let me die;
In Him there dwells a treasure all divine,
And matchless grace has made that treasure mine.

O that my soul could love and praise Him more,
His beauties trace, His majesty adore;
Live near His heart, upon His bosom lean;
Obey His voice, and all His will esteem.

Here4Him, thank you so much for starting this thread. I find myself drawn back to it over and over....

John 17:24 "Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world."

As I read this verse I began to think "this is my eternal occupation - beholding His glory". How awesome is that??? But then I discovered that the verb beholding is in the present tense. Does it thrill anyone else to realize that we can behold His glory NOW?? And my heart cries - OH Lord Jesus!!! Open my eyes to see Your glory, that I may behold You and know You as You truly are - the majestic and glorious King.

Amen! If this is available to us now, it must be that there are hindrances in our lives that prevent us from beholding more of His glory now. When we get rid of anything that hinders us i believe we will see have a greater capacity to enjoy Christ. A simpler life, a focused life is a life that the old saints lived that enabled them to enjoy Christ more than most of us do. We must remove these hindrances therefore. Oh help us God.

T

Tremendous insight there...to realize that hinderances could be what keeps us from beholding His Glory...

Total surrender is absolutely vital; yet seldom seen in lives today.

We are missing out sooo much, by holding on to things rather than handing them over to Him, wholly.

He IS Wonderful...and NOTHING should interfere with our pursuit of His Face!!!!

I am so thankful for the Word of God and for how the Holy Spirit teaches me who Jesus is as I read it. Everything I learn about Him makes me love Him more....

Like the woman with the alabaster box who was criticized for the extravagance of her expression of love for Jesus. But Jesus came to her defense. "Leave her alone" He said. And my heart began to soar as I saw how He will come to the defense of a true worshipper. I can't find the words to describe how much I love this.

For years I had a phrase taped on my refrigerator at home - "What is worth holding onto if it keeps you from Him?" It served as a reminder to me that I must continually be watchful for things that began to assume too much importance in my life. Just the busyness of day to day life can become a great hindrance. And I don't know why I do it, but I allow things to pull me away from Him. But eventually I always get to the place where I feel this longing, an emptiness, a yearning deep inside. So I will put everything aside and draw near to Him. And He is there and He still loves me and I wonder why I let my heart get distracted. There is nothing better than His love.

Have had Leonard Ravenhill's repeating of this coming to the fore lately ...

His Plan For Me

When I stand at the Judgment Seat of Christ
And He shows His plan for me,
The plan of my life as it might have been
Had He had His way - and I see
How I blocked Him here, and checked Him there,
And I would not yield my will,
Will there be grief in my Savior's eyes,
Grief though He loves me still?
Would He have me rich and I stand there poor,
Stripped of all but His grace,
While memory runs like a hunted thing,
Down the paths I cannot retrace.
Lord, of the years that are left to me
I give them to Thy hand
Take me and break me and mold me,
To the pattern that Thou hast planned!

Here4Him, thank you for the sermon recommendations. I have downloaded them and plan to listen to them tonight.

It seems that since I started posting in this thread that I am noticing demonstrations of His "wonderfulness" more frequently.

Today at church (Mother's Day) I sat in the sanctuary after service was over, so sad because my 2 sons are unsaved. I saw a lady rejoicing in the aisle during the altar call and I knew her child must have gotten saved. All I could do was look up to heaven and say "One day that will be my rejoicing". But it wasn't today and the sorrow of it was just a bit too much for me today, being Mother's Day and all. So I sat there in my seat as everyone was leaving and wept. A young teenage boy came over to me and said, "Ma'am, are you alright?" I smiled and assured him I was okay. He said, "I'd just like to give you a hug." I felt like Jesus had sent that hug to me. And as he walked off I began to weep again. Not in sorrow over my sons, but rejoicing in the wonderful loving kindness of the God who sees me and knows me and loves me.

Dani

T
Talkn2u

Dani...
Continue to "live out Christ" in front of your sons...
Continue to pray over them, trusting that God has honored your prayers.
Know that God has heard the cry of your heart...
And the other thing I would strongly suggest is that you get into His Word and pursue His assurance that they will walk in the Salvation of the Lord....
God will give you a Word to stand on. Get alone with Him. And I promise you that you will KNOW He has spoken and you will have a Word to hold tightly to in the "waiting"...

When my son was in Iraq, I could bearly function in society, and I have a very public job, where I am confronted with people NONstop all day long. My demeanor must be "up" and professional. However, I would find myself falling apart without warning...the concern over my son's safety engulfed me.

One day without warning I fell into tears in the middle of a store...I walked out as quickly as possible, went home, sat in my chair with my Bible in hand, and spoke to the Lord out of desperation: "Father, I must hear from you...I must know that you are watching my Son and that you are in control...my head knows it but my heart needs to be certain."

He took me immediately to a scripture I had not ever paid attention to in Job 41:26 "The sword that reaches him has no effect, nor does the spear or the dart or the javelin."
Upon reading it my spirit was covered in the Peace of God...and I never cried over him being out there for his entire tour.

God kept my Son from harm that tour and altho he was running from bombs "daily" he was not hurt physically or emotionally.

And to keep in line with this thread...This is one more reason for rejoicing at the Wonderfulness of Jesus...Not just because my son was kept safe....but I rejoice in His Goodness, that He saw me crying before Him and He met my hearts desperation with the Power of His Spirit thru His Word...

My son leaves for his second tour, in three days. I know that I will need to sequester myself again and hold on to the Lord...
I don't know the plans He has for my son, for many sons and daughters have lost their lives for this country...but KNOWING that the Lord of all Heaven and Earth, cares enough to make His Word and Spirit known to me, can get me and all the other mothers and fathers assurance and an anchor to hold on to ...

Your greatest testimony is living out Jesus in front of your boys...let them see your pursuit of His Will and Word and Ways...Let them hear you be thankful for His Mighty Acts and For His Sovereignty...Speak of His Greatness with rejoicing and a genuine heart and you will be cultivating the ground of their hearts.

They have watched you, you are raising them for Him...they will come into that saving knowledge for they will NOT be able to depart from Truth!!!

Happy Mothers Day!

I listened to the first sermon - The Glory of God in Moral Purity. I was cut to the very heart as my casual approach to pursuing and knowing Christ was exposed. All I could do was lay before the Lord and confess that I have been so very, very wrong.

Thank you my brother. This message was a word in season for me. And now I am asking Him to show me how to REALLY seek Him. I thought I knew. I am learning that I really know very little.

Oh my sister Dani, this is a wonderful place to be in! The Lord says

"I dwell in th ehigh and holy place with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite ones" (Isa 57:15).

It is a great place to be in to realise and confess we havn't valued Him and sought Him enough and to lay at His feet in brokeness, and yet be encouraged sister God says He will dwell with such people as you!

I can see you have such a heart for Christ. God has placed that in you, there is no doubt, you have encouraged me so much by your desire and love for Christ, so do be encouraged! May that grow more and more and may you come to know Him more, but sister i can certainly tell you are well on the way! Keep going! God Bless you!
