ST. GEORGE, Utah — Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Sunday evening at the age of 97.

"He passed away tonight at 7 p.m. at his home surrounded by his family," church spokesman Robert Howell said Sunday night.
The man revered as a "prophet, seer and revelator" by nearly 13 million Latter-day Saints worldwide served as president, the highest position in the church, since 1995.

Hinckley passed away in his apartment in downtown Salt Lake City from causes incident to age. He had diabetes and underwent surgery in January 2006 for a cancerous growth on his large intestine. ...
