FixItFast

hello everyone this is my first time on this message board.

I am currently watching "The Call" on GodTv. Has anyone seen this garbage? I've been watching all day and not once have they explained the gospel. It seems to be just a bunch of noise.

randomness....

Ok... now they have kids on stage with red tape over their mouths that say LIFE on it. I guess this will end abortion. No need to pray about it any more.

I heard Lou Engle say "I heard from the Lord and we should make arm bands that say LIFE on it and it will begin a movement like Martin Luther King did"

Please get the message out about these people.

Welcome to the SI formus FixIt, I hope you will take advantage of the many articles and sermons to be found here...a real gold mine.

Also, now that you have told us about what you don't like, perhaps you could tell us a little about yourself and what you do like. :-D

In Christ,

In regards to the call...I've been to two calls, you're completely wrong about it :) We prayed and worshiped for 12 hours actually, probably much more than you have ever in a day :) though I don't know that for sure.
The red LIFE tape is a way they intercede for the unborn, identifying with their silent cries for justice. The point is to pray silently while its on your mouth and send a message to the powers of darkness, that is, life.
The life bands (I am wearing one now) are simply red bands that you wear that help remind you to pray everyday for the ending of abortion and ask God to send revival to America.
Did you know all who attended are supposed to fast before and during the call? You are so missing the point if you think for a second its a bunch of noise. The Gospel was in fact presented (I WAS THERE IN DC MIND YOU) by a preacher near the beginning, but the gathering was for believers to come and pray, not for the unsaved and lost.

It was a call to pray for the nation to turn back to God, so yes, please get the word out about these guys. They are actually mobilizing people to pray.

"I am currently watching "The Call" on GodTv. Has anyone seen this garbage? I've been watching all day and not once have they explained the gospel. It seems to be just a bunch of noise." (Fix It)

Did you watch the same Call that I did? I certainly wouldn't call this gathering of thousands of young people who were crying out to God for our nation garbage. It might be noise to you, but it is not noise to the Lord. What I saw was young people humbling themselves, seeking God's face, repenting, and praying. The Word of the Lord says that if we would do these things that He would heal our land.

As Christians it is our responsility to first come to God seeking cleansing for oursleves for our own sins, and then repenting for the sins of our nation. It is mercy that we need, and if we don't cry out for mercy, then we will suffer severe judgement from God. We are already seeing this to a degree, but it is nothing compared to what will be coming if the Church doesn't repent of her sins and intercede.

F
FireinmyBones1

Indeed! Let us all work together to get the word out about these people as "the CALL" is one of the more powerful prayer ministries on the planet today.

M
murrcolr

The Call

Please don't look at what they say or what they do but test the spirit behind it.

One of the main spirits that operate through these people is a spirit of divination, witchcraft and controling spirits.

One of there head seers is Bob Jones go and have a look into him and some of his teachings.

Please pray and seek God and have a good think about it as it's okay to think for yourself.

Not everything that looks Godly is Godly.

2 Corinthians 11:14-15 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve

A
AbideinHim

So are you saying that it is the devil that has led thousands of people from all over the nation to come to Washington D.C. to pray, fast, and repent?

The devil has never led me to do any of these things. For if he did he would be working against himself.

L
Lotis

Yes, once again I was there :) I assure you we did nothing more than pray and seek God for the returning of America to himself and the ending of abortion. Even if you told me 1000 times that that's not what they do at The Call, showed me 1000 pictures that appeard to show otherwist etc, I wouldn't believe you, because I was there :) We fasted, we prayed, we worshiped, Period. (I also drank lots of gatorade...)

M
murrcolr

Please understand it is not what you say or do but it's all about the spirit behind what you say and do.

That is why you are told you will know them by there fruits.

Matt 7:15-23“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

So after reading this passage that you agree that you could fast, pray and Jesus could turn around and say depart from me.

Here is a message from Carter Colon called Beware of the Angry Watchmen this I believe is going to come through The Call.

Brother, please expalin to me what the scripture on false prophets has to do with "The Call"? Are you calling Lou Engel a false prophet?

This brother has shown nothing but humility, and right from the beginning of the meeting the Lordship of Jesus Christ was expressed. Now a false prophet will not exalt the Lord Jesus. He will do the opposite. He will lead people away from Jesus and exalt himself.

Why do you believe that "The Call" was done in the wrong spirit? My heart was moved as I witnessed the prayer and intercession going up before God.

L
Lotis

Please tell me what false fruit you see from The Call. Once again, I was there, there was repentence, humility, brokeness over the sins of america. Everything about it pointed people towards a holy lifestyle and towards Jesus, you have NO grounds to accuse The Call itself as being of a false spirit.

M
murrcolr

It is of great concern to me that Mike Bickel has been promoting “contemplative” or “centering prayer” for some time. Now that Lou Engle has relocated to Kansas City and is on staff at IHOP KC he is using TheCall to recruit young people into the IHOP internship. We need to be aware of what is going on there and pray for the young people who are involved.

Let me start by defining “Contemplative Prayer”:

“Contemplative Prayer—A mystical prayer practice that leads one into the “silence” but in actuality leads away from God.

Definition of Contemplative Prayer: As it is expressed in a modern day movement is mystically (i.e. based on a technique or method) in which one empties the mind of thought through repetition, usually of a word or phrase or focus on the breath. In this case the silence would be an absence of thought, all thought.

The purpose of contemplative prayer is to enter an altered state of consciousness in order to find one’s true self, thus finding God. This true self relates to the belief that man is basically good. Proponents of contemplative prayer teach that all human beings have a divine center and that all, not just born again believers, should practice contemplative prayer

Another name for contemplative prayer is prayer soaking.

Bickle says the most inspiring light in all of Christianity came from the Roman Catholic mystics during the dark ages. Below are quotes from Bickle on the mystics: “mystics is a legitimate term… I don’t want to fight the war…so I’m just saying contemplative prayer, but I mean the mystics—even here at IHOP I say, lets just stay with contemplatives …I don’t have time to argue… so I call them the contemplatives…. I don’t want to go into the semantics, the debates…so, I’m calling it the contemplatives… I don’t have time to argue… but I need the mystics.”

“[They are] Some of the brightest lights in all of history… there has been the brightest lights in all history for men and women of abandonment in the dark ages… somewhere we have to say the dark ages were the luminaries in the grace of God…they were Catholic priests. A study of the lives of the mystics, the contemplatives, through history, and clearly the most inspiring, compelling examples of history, in my world, have come out of the Catholic dark ages. I can’t find anything like it in modern times, in America, in the protestant world.”

Make sure that no one deceives you my friend.

I know many brothers and sisters that attend IHOP that have more spirit in their big toe then most professing Christian's obtain in their entire lifetime.

You do not agree with IHOP, fine, neither do I, but to group an entire people into a catagory based on other people's assumptions is wrong.

May the Lord be glorified.

The Prophetic Call - Elijah: Prophet of Restoration by Art Katz

I was reading this teaching by Art Katz and decided it would be suitable for me to post on this thread.

The false prophets did not know that they were false. They actually expected that there was a God that would answer them. The vilest form of apostasy is when the people who are apostate do not even recognize or see themselves as apostate, and think that they are fully in the faith. That is the ultimate apostasy and we need to seriously ask whether we are already describing the condition to which the church has come, even in its best and most celebrated forms. We are not just talking about the mainline churches like the Episcopal and the Methodist, but are we are willing to consider those forms of the church that are the most charismatically celebrated in Christendom today? The apostasy is even worse in those places because it is not even recognized as apostasy, and so much so, that when one comes to confront and challenge, then that one is called a 'troubler of Israel' and is shown the back door.

The prophetic man has somehow in the deepest corridors of his heart a little tremor of discomfort, that though everyone is shouting 'Amen' and 'hallelujah' and having a great time, there is something in his own heart that cannot say 'Yea' and 'Amen'. It is not yet the authentic thing, though it purports to be and appears to be and uses all the right language appropriate to being it. The prophet is so attuned to God, who Himself alone is authenticity, that when he comes into the presence of something that appears to be right and is not, then it registers upon his own soul. How can such a man be found and formed in such a way? It is the crying need of the church in this hour because the deception is far more extensive than we know.

https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/articles/index.php?view=article&aid=406

I would fully agree with Arts here that the deception in the church is far more extensive than we know. Things of the occult and mystical traditions are accepted into the church and are classed as the Gospel.

Taking things that are not of God and saying are of God is wrong and the men that do these things are False and are not to be followed. Regardless of how Holy they make themselves appear. If you can't see that then you have fallen into deception as well.

If you want you can go to the IHOP site and it will give you a step by step guide on how to practice complmentive prayer. I won't post that link. All you'll end up getting if you practice that prayer is a spirit guide and this is where you know get all this Angels appearing to people. It's of the Devil and the sad thing is some would defend it.

IHOP is one of the vilest forms of apostasy.

So subtle yet so vile.

Wake Up

L
Lotis

I refuse to argue over forms of prayer. If these men and what they do is not of God then may it die out and burn in judgement, if what they do is of God, then may our eyes be opened to his plan, and may it be blessed all the more. I do not see what you see, either because I am blind, or because you are wrong. If I am blind God open my eyes, if my brother is wrong Lord, show him the truth. Let the fruit speak for itself. So far the genuine prayers of repentence and mercy for America tip the scales towards a God pleasing movement in my opinion. Jesus is King, regardless.

There are some that believe that they are operating in discernment, but it is not discernment at all. It is a witch hunt. Because there are people in the prohetic movement that are in error doesn't mean that everyone that has dealings with these men are false prophets. WE have to examine the lives and beliefs of each of these men in order to make a determination.

Mike

M
murrcolr

Please understand my point that I am not trying to start a Witchhunt. It would be so easy for me to just ignore this thread and go on and disscuss something else. But I can't, I just can't do it.

In the job I do we have a saying "Nobody gets hurt" and are told that safety should always come first. This works out practicaly by looking out for each other and watching each others back in the workplace.

So this is what I am doing here. I am watching out for you I am trying to warn you of the danger it might upset you, you might not listen but I will say it any way as I know there is a danger lurking that would seek to bring you into deception.

Some on this thread have taken offense as they think I am attacking them or there firends I am not. I have mentioned only a few names and they are the leaders in this movement that is being disscussed on this thread.

It tells us in the bible that there will be a great falling away.

"Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being assembled to meet him ... Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion [in the original greek: apostasy - 'great falling away'] comes first, and the lawless [one] is revealed, the son of perdition..." 2Thess 2:1,3

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils..." 1Timothy 4:1

We are told that there will be a great falling away, that some will give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils this my friends is what is happening know across churchs of the world. This is what I am trying to warn you about so you don't become one who falls away.

But also in the meantime away from the media spotlight (God TV and the like) God is working and is preparing a people that see what is going some see it more clearer that others. For some it could be a concern, some might say I am not sure about that, for some it will push them into prayer, for some it will cause them to set there hearts on the things of God and do what God has called them to do.

But the majority are going to go along with Pied Piper and end up in deception as this is what the bible teaches us will happen. If I can touch just one person through this post and they heed the warning then it will be worth it.

In the a earlier post on this thread I mentioned a sermon by Carter Colon Beware of the angry watchman. Carter Colon basically warns about a false move of God that is coming. Please listen to this sermon.

It will give you insight into what is coming.

I have spent a great deal of time with individuals from IHOP and the fruit that these christians contain is above and beyond the norm of today's society. They have a desire to really know the Lord's heart in all matters and have life styles that surround it. I do see the issue of mysticism in their understanding of meditation but ultimately i beilieve it is a system they use to pray earnestly before the lord during an extended period of time.

BTW, I am heavily reformed in my theology and found these individuals quite refreshing and encouraging in my walk.

The message angry watchmen is for individuals that attack the beautiful church of Christ through harsh and incorrect accusations. Many of these brothers at IHOP are truly regenerated believers.

Murrcolr,
It would not be wise to include Art Katz in your criticisms of IHOP and the CALL. In his last few years of life he actually grew quite fond of what the Lord is doing at IHOP. He spoke there on a few occasions, even stating that he had rarely bumped into a group of saints with such a quality. He was commending Bickle's "Passion for Jesus" book in his final days as well.

Art became a grandfather in the faith to me, and I was with him in MN just a few weeks before he passed. I have often run into brothers who were making critical comments of some of the same works that he commended, and I don't like to see his heart misrepresented. This is not to say that he agreed with everything that takes place in modern movements, but it would be wise not to use his words to support your views.

Regards,
BP

Matt 12:36-37 And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Quote by Art Katz

The false prophets did not know that they were false. They actually expected that there was a God that would answer them.

These men in Ihop, JHop, The Call, Freshfire, Toronto the list could go on. They are trying to do something they are not called to do.

What is it they are trying to do is raise up a army for God. It is not there calling from God there is no Elijah in there midst. The main players have tapped into a wrong spirit and are misleading people. This Joel's army that they are trying to build will attack other believers. They tell you themselves about the civil war between the blues and the greys this is what they believe.

http://fireinmybones.com/index.php?col=070908~Can%20We%20Avoid%20a%20Charismatic%20Civil%20War?

By J.Lee Grady

Take just a part of the message he says; "But now I realize that some people really want a war"

Luke 9 v 55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

When Jesus was not recieved by the smartians James and John asked will we call down fire like Elijah. Jesus replied in the above verse you don't know the spirit you are of.

These men do not know what spirit they are of operating in calling for civil war in the church. They even have the cheek to say it's from God.

In the words of Ian Paisley.

Waken Up you sleepy Christain....

W
watchandpray

I love you, brother, and I understand your concern, but I must urge you to be careful in this.

Matthew 12:31-34
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh...

This is why this gets a little messy. Because the Lord is always doing something, and He doesn't use the same methods everywhere. He is a mystery, and what the Lord is doing in you, He isn't always doing in the person next to you.

While not everyone at IHOP may be sound in their doctrine or their salvation, they ARE people, and where there are people, there are messed-up things. Now, I have seen the fruit that the Lord has produced through IHOP and it has been good fruit.

We must be very careful about what we say, because we dare NOT call the Holy Spirit a demonic spirit.

K
KathleenP

I must say something about this thread. I know that many are very defensive about the IHOP ministry but even nizero admitted there is a "hint" of mysticism and meditation in their prayer and worship. This is veering or swerving from what is called sound doctrine.

One of the most profound prophetic words that I often refer to was given to Stanley Frodsham back in 1965. It is a sobering look at the last days and what will happen to many ministers whoever they may be. Many start out with sincere and good intentions, but then begin speaking error and many will cleave to them because they are so loyal that they think they MUST be speaking the truth.

There is almost a hyper appearance to these men as they zealously carry out what they believe is God's plan. They sincerely consider themselves truly annointed and unable to err or be deceived.

I have some dvds from Art Katz and some were of him speaking to Mr. Bickles congregation. Although I feel Art desired them to continue to seek the Lord and be delivered of their carnal and soulish manners, I clearly hear him rebuking them for certain things and admitting they probably will not receive what he has to say. One of the most offending issues was the form of soulish music which even Watchman Nee prophesied would be the downfall of the church.

Are we too unwilling to consider that we ourselves might be in error? God is not impressed by men and neither should we be. He has given us His word and we must continually compare and study so as to show ourselves approved unto God as well as men.

I know that the ungodly and deceived will increase in ungodliness and those that are devoted to these men will believe that they are being persecuted by those that are bold enough to point out the error. The Holy Spirit teaches us all things and illuminates the Word. No matter how sincere many of these people are, it does not negate the fact that there is gross error being taught and we're always to be on guard and never to think we aren't capable of being deceived.

Those that believe they are the true church will be persecuting the actual remnant. It's as simple as that, and Jesus said those that kill us will think they are doing God a service. How could that be we ask? Because the Lord will send strong delusion to them that they should believe a lie because they received not the love of the truth. Please have the ears to hear. Ask the Lord to enlighten you and He will reveal any error that you might be in.

In your opinion, what gross error is being taught?

K
KathleenP

Although I'm not fully informed concerning all of Mike Bickle's teachings or ministry, I took the time to read many of the posts and found much that was useful to myself in affirming my thoughts on IHOP's errors.

I am not all out on a witchhunt but simply believe many aspects of their ministry are strangely sensual and make me uneasy.

The intense focus on "prophetic" musicians that as one poster observed, do not mention very much the name of Jesus but rather sing in dark and almost morbid strains. They almost make me feel as if they're singing to a lover and not Jesus and there are songs whose lyrics and style could go either way.

One saint mentioned last week attending a certain "christian" concert and observed many unsaved people enjoying the entertainment. Could it possible be because the world recognizes it's own? Just wondering.

Reguardless, there are many worthy posts that explain my concerns far more accurately that I am able and I spotted one by a brother Aaron Ireland which was very well written.

By there fruits you will know them and that is tried and true. I tend to run from those that have almost identical hair, clothing, and musical styles as the world. I thought we were to come out and be a separated people. Many of these youth look ominous and dark to me.

I look at people like the Courville family, Denny Kenestan, and Paul Washer and they are worlds apart. These people have faces that shine.
You can tell they spend time in prayer and that they have been with a holy God.

I would to God that Brother Washer would be the one speaking these words. Maybe then someoone might think they had some weight.

I too have had concerns over IHOP, being that I've been involved in that type of movement, not IHOP itself, but of the same sort, contemplative prayer etc... For awhile I was "hearing God's voice" in prayer and was prophesying... You should have seen me, I was getting applause from men, being called a 'prophet.' I felt really strong, like a super christian. I felt I could 'change the world for Christ' My flesh loved it!

Whew, I'm so glad that the Lord had mercy on me and pulled me out of that. Since then He has broken me and humbled me so much, looking back I can see just how much of it was just me 'feeling powerful' and not being broken and feeling desperate for Him, loathing myself because of my sin, fearing Him because of Who He is, and loving Him for the same. Because of that experience I run from this sort of super christian stuff. Perhaps some of what goes on there is true- but there is a lot of room in ministries like this for our fallen natures to thrive and feed on. There's a lot going on at IHOP to give someone a opportunity for the flesh.

Being that this this movement is so huge it makes me think of the comment by A.W Tozer in the book "The best of A.W Tozer" compiled by Warren Wiersbe:

"Much that passes for Christianity today is the brief bright effort of the severed branch to bring for its fruit in its season. But the deep laws of life are against it. Preoccupation with appearances and a corresponding neglect of the out of sight root of the true spiritual life are prophetic signs which go unheeded.... The whole Bible and all the great saints of the past join to tell us the same thing. "Take nothing for granted," they say to us. "Go back to the grass roots. Open your hearts and search the Scriptures. Open your hearts and search the Scriptures. Bear your cross, follow your Lord and pay no attention to the passing religious vogue. The masses are always wrong. In every generation the number of the righteous is small. Be sure you are among them."

Another thing Tozer said, I can't recall the quote, but he mentioned how any movement that does not humble the flesh of man, does not come from God. This makes the most sense because God doesn't share His glory with anyone, as the scriptures tell us. In Ezekial 36:23 were told how He will "sanctify" His great name throughout the nations. The Lord's Prayer "Hallowed" be thy Name. That word "hallowed" can also be replaced with 'sanctify.' This is the desire of God. That He would be exalted. So, this whole scene then of "prophetic worship to advance the kingdom of God" which I've seen from IHOP, it just makes me shiver. I run from it. It has an appearance of something God exalting, but in my eyes, it also has a greater appearance of exalting the flesh of man.

I would mention in Scripture how we are told things will "grow worse and worse" false teachers "deceiving and being deceived" Read 2 Timothy 3 for a description of the times we live in. Is it not so strange then to have a ministry this huge, all of them burning for Jesus with signs and wonders? Here I copied this right from IHOP.org off of their evangelist institute page:

Students will be equipped to Share the Gospel, prophesy, heal the sick, and cast out demons outside the four walls of the church.

--------

I mean, isn't that amazing? Who wouldn't want something like that? "You mean, all I have to do is go to their school and you will equip me with power to do these things?" How wonderful! I hope this statement shows the reason for the popularity of this movement. It looks so real and powerful, but all those gifts come from God and should not be advertised as something man can administer. Again, I discern an opportunity for the flesh here.

As a last point, compare Paul Washer, there's a lot of people who despise and hate him for preaching the truth, therefore, if IHOP is preaching that same truth, why are they so popular?

Hope this helps those searching for discernment in this area.

May we decrease and God increase.

K
KathleenP

Thanks Brother Joshua for sharing in my sentiments. I sometimes fumble with words on paper with what is so plain in my mind.

I am blessed that the real body has members that supply what others lack!

Biblically, the true remnant was also much depised and very small in number, hence the Lord be insured that He receive all the glory due Him. Mass amounts of people remind me of the Israelites in the desert and I think of the people eating and drinking and rising up to play.

The chastening and correction of the Lord is an extremely difficult thing to endure. After tasting myself of these "glory" churches and than being removed by God's mercy from them, He began the unpleasant process of purging. How grateful I am for it.

I have been reduced to nothing in my own sight and it is mandatory to do this if He will chose chose vessels once again to reveal His strong arm.
The flesh battles recognition in everything. It longs to be lifted up and be the "the one" that is God's messenger. This is a dangerous place and may God deliver many from this deception.

This is so frustrating to me. How can I know? I love everything about Jesus, but I'm learning not to find these things through men. This is so hard! I just want to love Him. It's so hard for me to put how I am feeling into words.

I know our God is not a God of confusion... and I am pretty confused right now. How can I know if something is of the flesh when so many are being deceived? I know the Word says that I will know them by their fruit... but what if their fruit looks awfully nice on the outside?

How can I know?

I commend Lou Engle and all of the young people that went to "The Call". They went to repent, fast, and pray for this nation.

You might not like their music, or their long hair, or even the methods of IHOP, but God is not so much concerned with that which upsets men as the hearts of these young people. If you knew the testimonies of many of them coming out of drug abuse and sinful lifestyles, then many of you wouldn't be so quick to criticize.

I commend Lou Engle and all of the young people that went to "The Call". They went to repent, fast, and pray for this nation.

I was at the Call in August with my family. It is still bearing good fruit in our lives.

I have had a little experience with IHOP I would like to share. But first Joshuapk777, I was gladdened and encouraged by your testimony so I am grateful to God for that. This a lot longer than I thought it would be.

I was introduced to Mike Bickle's Audio teachings on the Song of Songs and Hosea and from there I ended up reading at least one to two thousand pages of teaching which I was able to download from their website. I was carrying around a box that had about two reams of paper in it (that's about a four to five inch stack if you don't know what a ream is.) I also purchased over $200 worth of audio teachings and "prophetic music" from the website and listened to them non-stop. If 20 hours of teaching arrived in the mail, I was done listening to it 20 hours later (excluding work but not always sleep.) I eventually flew out there in distress because I was sinning so much and I couldn't find anyone who took repentance seriously and I was tossed back and forth between the knowledge of freewill to obey Jesus in my conscience and the constant message I was hearing from a local congregation (and my carnal soul blindly embracing) that christians will always commit grave, willful sins until the day they die. My conscience was being seered within me but my soul was blind to the depth of its pride and depravity. When I got to IHOP i went up to the front desk and cowardly explained that I didn't know anyone there and that I had flown from many states away (MA) and I was hoping to be able to talk to someone. So the young lady I was talking to was basically a receptionist at their prayer/music room. Which has cameras and mic's and you can watch music and dancing and prayer and teaching and all that online if you want. Their music is intoxicating. I had never heard stuff like that before. So the receptionist didn't really understand that I was on the brink of despair and pointed me to a sunday service schedule on a bulletin board. So I walked over to it and pretended to look at it and went outside and despaired. God had been allowing things to happen that had broken my heart but I really felt alone at that moment. The next day or so after I had recovered enough to walk back there from my motel room (I spent all my money on this trip) I didn't want to have to cross this narrow bridge because I couldn't tell if the cars would see me or stop for me since everyone drove there. So I tried to find a place to hope over the stream that the bridge went over. I ended up taking off my shoes and stumbling through freezing water in the middle of winter and when I finally arrived there in the IHOP coffee shop (I'm not kidding, it is better than starbucks) I was in complete despair, bitterness, desperation, etc. and just scrawling ridiculous and shameful complaints toward God in this notebook I used to write out prayers in as well as horrible blasphemy and wicked arrogance (I don't understand exactly how I came to use a notebook for prayer though, I don't anymore.) A man started talking to me and asking me how I had come to be at IHOP and since my heart was being crushed to some extent I was willing to tell him the weird personal nature of my trip. I was still being my usual fake self with him without really being aware of it and he looked at me and asked me if I was a liar. I was very intimidated by the question and I started reaching into my bag of anti-christian doctrines and self-flattery in order to deny being a liar. I new that I had lied in the past and that I had not committed to never lying again but I thought that like all the other "christians" I knew that I could just rely on "how God sees me" - as if God was deceived which is horrible blasphemy. It is just like how the Roman catholic church holds up a piece of wafer and says it is the body of Jesus Christ and everyone says amen. An unrepentant, arrogant man would also call himself the body of Christ and have all say amen. This man was not saying amen to me and pointed me toward repentance. I confessed before him that I was a liar and that I had been living a lie my whole life, trying to keep everyone from seeing certain things about me. In my opinion, men who are afraid of confrontation for example are often liars because they don't want anyone to see them in a situation where they don't know if they'll have total control over the outcome. I think that's why a lot of men blow up in anger eventually. Then the only kind of confrontation anyone sees is blind rage so everyone thinks confrontation is scary and evil and avoids it. Understand? I was like that and I was a liar because instead of confronting people I would hide my thoughts, feelings, love, words, etc. So it was a wonderful feeling of freedom to confess being a liar to that man. He thought that God wanted him to go to the coffee shop to ask someone if they were a liar. He recently had confessed the same to God and had to leave his real estate job because it was all lies. He did not work at IHOP, he didn't even know much about it except that it was there. He was so kind to me and humble. He was learning about being careful with his speech so he shared a lot about that with me and I kind of started feeling like I was in that movie the Matrix when I started paying attention to a lot of the things that people were saying. The whole world is under the power of the evil one. I was starting to learn how Jesus has nothing to do with all this evil and frivolity and lies and flesh serving.
Anyway, my new friend eventually was in one of IHOP's prayer rooms talking to their 'head prophet' or something and when he was asking them if they were a liar one of them said something like "my spirit does not agree with your spirit" and they were asking him to agree to refrain from saying or asking certain things if he wanted to remain on their property and since he couldn't agree to those things he had to leave.

In their prayer room they would have a line of kids who would come up to a microphone and read out scriptures with their now booming voices over the backdrop of the intoxicating and exhilarating music and after a scripture or a prayer they would often add a huge string of unintelligible syllables to which their was offered no interpretation, in my opinion because it was not a language but an unprofitable skill of the flesh.

They also had all these prophetic singing things going on and you know how people like to have 'impressions' and messages from God and things like that. I don't remember seeing a single woman with a covered head there. And in that large congregation/concert they certainly were not silent.

That's about all I can remember about IHOP right now. The humorous name IHOP and having a logo rub me the wrong way. But like Kathleen seemed to imply, the unarticulated feelings, senses, and impressions are beneficial when they are explained with understanding. So maybe someone else has more understanding than I about these organizations and their logos, marketing, brochures, websites, fundraising, fees, etc.

The person who warned about calling the Holy Spirit the devil should take their own advice and be cautious about calling works of the devil works of the Holy Spirit. Do you think it will turn out better for you because of an imagined technicality of language? I'm not pronouncing judgment on IHOP or on you who said that but I hope you will accept this reminder graciously. My name is Ben, I'm not your superior or anything, I hope you would do the same for me if I said something questionable as well! If you had said it privately I would say this privately but if you will accept this in peace then you will also understand that you won't want other people to follow your example. There are a lot of people who are afraid that they have blasphemed the Holy Spirit but are actually being drawn toward repentance and it is good for them to be wary of the congregations of the world because most of them do not obey Jesus. Therefore saying that can discourage greatly one whom God is working to strengthen in faith. It is good for us to be zealous for God's honor and I very much hope that I do not discourage you for doing so. Before you warn someone that they might be committing unpardonable sin you should look to yourself. That is a heavy warning for the one receiving it and you should be sure whether you are qualified to give it first. I hope (if you read this) that what I have said about God giving me the courage to confront others will help you to trust that I don't want to hurt your feelings or beat you down in any way. So I ask that you will accept it in a brotherly way with good will.

watchandpray,
I see that you are more humbled than I first thought and I beg your forgiveness if what I said above was more stern than God would want it to be! Will you forgive me if it was? I have left it for the sake of others but everything below I have just written for your sake not realizing that I was writing to the same person. May God have patience with my weakness and imperfection on account of Jesus. Do you understand? I thought your two posts were two different people because I wasn't paying attention. I'm glad that you're the same person though!

Here's what I just wrote to you before I realized you were the same one. In my heart I want to comfort you very much.

May God give you wisdom, knowledge, comfort, peace, assurance and holy zeal in the true faith of Jesus.

Do not despair over the lies. Remember God gives wisdom to all who ask him without finding fault. He is not a liar so banish from your mind any thoughts that he will not show you the truth if you truly desire it. If your soul did not desire it you would not have frustration. You must desire it in order to be saved so desire it.

"Come out from them and touch no unclean thing and I will receive you." He will be our father and we will be his children. Would you tell an orphan that they have to know certain things in order to be adopted by you and then not tell the poor child what those things are? Be strong and have patience. Sometimes patience just means crying before God and sighing and groaning and lamenting our weakness. Wouldn't you hug the orphan child and lavish comfort upon it if it was eagerly willing to do what you wanted but just didn't know exactly how? I think many would and you know that God ways are far higher than man's ways.

I can relate very much to your frustration. Seek peace and pursue it. Search for wisdom as for hidden treasure. Look in Jesus. All the answers are there in Him. Blessed is the man who is not condemned in what he approves. Many will say to you he (Jesus, his spirit, his body) is here in the inner rooms. If we walk in the light we will have fellowship in the light. God sets the solitary in families. Those who sow tears will reap joy. It is better to live on a corner of a rooftop than in a House with a contentious woman. Be still and know I am God. Where envy and self-seeking are there is confusion and every evil thing. If we say we are without sin we deceive ourselves. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did. Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. If you should say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’— you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt: the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out. Brace yourself like a man. Perfect love casts out all fear.

There were men hundreds of years ago who realized the Roman church was wrong and when they started to follow the right way some of their own leaders who had left with them turned on their own flock and started preaching against them and having them put to death! But Jesus was with those who believed him and protected them from the evil one.

I thank God that he has given you the desire for wisdom and to follow Jesus. No longer say to yourself 'How can I know' if the Holy Spirit shows you that you have not believed the verse from James that God will give you wisdom then you can cry to God for wisdom. Purify your hearts you double-minded James said. Lament and mourn and weep. Remember cowards will not enter the kingdom of heaven. God is so patient and compassionate and desires so greatly for you to know him. Be a man. If you are a woman then be like a man in courage which comes from God. I don't know your gender. I have to ask God for courage. If I don't have God's help I'm just wobbly knees and weakness. Without God I would be scared away by the wind! But with God I can have strength. Jesus needs to be our strength. Look what the psalm says: "I will speak of your decrees before kings and not be ashamed" That's with the strength of Jesus! He did that before Pontius Pilate because God was his strength. May God give us both strength in Jesus.

In my desperation for truth, like many others, I have been deceived many times by things that LOOK like the truth but aren't.

I don't think everything that is happening at IHOP is demonic at all... I know lots of people there (not everyone) and I have seen humility and true fruits of the Spirit. I am just still a little confused and frustrated but I know the Lord fills those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

::sigh::

It's a good thing I'm not the judge, because I would sure stink at it.

I want to ask a question, but due to past experience, I doubt it will be answered. Here it is:

To all of you who are criticizing, and speaking badly about the IHOP ministry, and leaders,

Which of you has actually met, and spoken with the leaders?

Also, which of you have actually spent more than one or two days at one of the main prayer rooms, either in Kansas, or Atlanta?

Reason I ask, is because I have, I have spent over three months, and I have spoken to these leaders personally, and I knew personally the leader of the prophecy team, (by the way, they don't call themselves prophets, they are far too humble to do that.) I have relationships with these people that you are talking wrongly about, and I know most of you are just sitting around formulating opinions without facts, evidence, or relationship, and it disgusts me. That is the nature of gossip.

M
Miccah

Brother. I have not spent time with any of the leaders of IHOP, but I have spent a ton on time with folks that attend the ministry there. A few of my brothers in the Lord are on staff at IHOP as well. Another sister that attended House Church in my home for 6 months is now going to the ministry school there.

I cannot speak for the leaders of IHOP, but ALL of the people that I know that attend IHOP are strong and solid in the Lord. They are some of the most humble and loving people that truly strive to walk in the ways of the Lord. Their whole focus is on Jesus and glorifying the Lord. Their dedication to the Lord far outweighs most of the godly people I know.

Are there things wrong with IHOP? Yes, some things are. Does this mean that the people there are mislead. No. As with any minstry, you need not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I do not actively support IHOP, yet I do not speak against it. I have seen too many lives transformed for the glory of the Lord from this ministry.

I stand for Christ and all who seek after His coming.

Dear Ben Williams,
I have considered your stinging rebuke and tried to take a look at my long-winded story to find anything offensive in it. I intended it to be encouraging to people who were feeling confused or lost as a result of conflicting messages by showing (1) that I had survived a strange and confusing experience of conflicting messages (2) that God isn't a member of any man made organizations nor does he need them (3) being honest about what I felt were legitimate reasons to be wary or affiliation with IHOP. However, I see that, perhaps through unforgiveness, bitterness, etc. that I was not aware of until now, that I had related parts of the story with a tone of partiality which is favoritism and ungodly. So I'll try to address all of this and hopefully you will not feel so offended afterward.

...my new friend eventually was in one of IHOP's prayer rooms talking to their 'head prophet' or something and when he was asking them if they were a liar one of them said something like "my spirit does not agree with your spirit" and they were asking him to agree to refrain from saying or asking certain things if he wanted to remain on their property and since he couldn't agree to those things he had to leave.
I think I was showing partiality in the way I said this which is not right. I apologize for that. That kind of attitude encourages slander rather than love.
In their prayer room they would have a line of kids
adolescents, children, young men and women as well as adults. Mostly teenage youth.
who would come up to a microphone and read out scriptures with their now booming voices over the backdrop of the intoxicating and exhilarating music and after a scripture or a prayer they would often add a huge string of unintelligible syllables to which their was offered no interpretation, in my opinion because it was not a language but an unprofitable skill of the flesh.
I say in my opinion because I have not had it shown to me that such speech (which truly sounds like babbling like it or not) is actually pleasing to God.
They also had all these prophetic singing things
"all these...things" again I sound partial here and apologize. "so-called prophetic singing" would communicate the same message without showing partiality and sounding childish.
going on and you know how people like to have 'impressions' and messages from God and things like that. I don't remember seeing a single woman with a covered head there. And in that large congregation/concert they certainly were not silent.
I was being honest here so if you think it's talking badly like the other parts then we'd have to get into a larger discussion.
Again just being honest, I associate all those things, when put all together, with manipulation.

I hope that no one who reads this will follow my mistakes and have a partisan spirit against anyone from or for IHOP. We are all human beings and we all need Jesus and we've all gone the wrong way. I openly question IHOP and have not been at all convinced that they are part of the true church. Nevertheless, people are people and I should regard them as if they were my own brothers and sisters according to the flesh, which they are through Adam.

Ben Williams thank you for helping me to see that I was being unkind. I hope I haven't overlooked anything. Peace to you sir.

Meeting these men is beside the point. We have to go to scripture when looking at there teachings. One of the most glaring false teaching that sticks out as is Contemplative Prayer. Mickle Bickle promotes and teaches this prayer. You can find a 4 part series on Mike Blog spot on the subject.

Contemplative prayer is based on eastern religions like Hinduism and buddism and is practiced by Catholic Mystics.

Mike Bickle said in his audio message Contemplative Prayer part 2

This is an imperfect science… it (the term cp) is not a term that is a biblical term… it’s an idea. … there’s no place where Paul the apostle said the term cp means this… different ones throughout church history define it differently… I have 30, 40, 50 titles on cp in my home… any book on cp, I just buy em… at first it confused me because one person talked about so different from another person it took me a few of years to figure it out that there is no clear infallible definition…”

What does he mean by that.
1. It can't be found in the bible
2. It means one thing to one and something else to others
3.Mike Bickle will buy anything to do with this type of prayer.
4. It can't be difined

Contemplative prayer can't be found in the bible.

During the reforamtion Protestants refused and rejected any teaching other than what could be found in the bible regardless of who it came from either a pope or catholic mystic.

Today we should also take this lesson from the protestants of the past and say "Sola scriptura" by scrpiture alone

Mick Bickle is a Mystic as teaches and practices a Mystical form of prayer that is not biblical. I don't need to meet him to find that out as he teaches it and posts it on the internet. That is fact.

He and his fellows should be avoided at all cost.

Yo murrcolr, i like your Art Katz quotes. Ive been deeply affected by his life and works. Not sure if your aware of this, but Art and Mike Bickle were personal friends. Before Art passed away. And also Art told Mike Bickle to listen to Bob Jones, and that he(Bob) was a true prophet of God. If you want to know my sources, ask. God Bless

Now, I say to you this, I have sat in on their contemplative prayer sessions, and had extensive teaching on that subject from their leaders, and it had no unbiblical things in it.

This is what they taught:

(in any order, together or by themselves)

Read the scripture
Pray the scripture
Sing the scripture
Sit still and contemplate the scripture
Sit still and listen for God to speak to you about what you read, or sang, or prayed.

That is it, period. I know that, because I actually went and sat under their teaching, unlike you, who have not. You do not know whereof you speak. To have an attitude that would not allow you to speak to these men, shows your nature indeed. Remember, Peter and John addressed Simon the sorcerer without hesitation.

I say again, you do not know these men, you do not know their teachings, and your heart is set to expose and divide, which is not God's heart at all.

LarryD

I have read all of the comments that were given from the original post concerning IHOP. I ask that you take into consideration that I am new to Sermonindex and so please be patient.
My Story is this....
I have been saved and a part of church for about 20 years now. Actually I have been to many of them.
I have taught in remote villages, prisons and Bible Colleges in the Philippines a couple of times so I have learned to always be on guard for the demonic spirits and presence that are very evident in that country. I regret to say that America is not immune from this, so, always be on guard.
I thought I had it all together and was very happy to escort my wife and 5 other friends to a "Passion For Jesus Conference" at IHOP KC in March of 2007. I went really expecting nothing special but I thought it would be great to sit in a prayer room that had worship 24/7. So, off we go to IHOP.
As I sat in that conference room with hundreds of people I heard a sermon from Mike Bickle on John the Baptist. I think that is when my Spirit started to come alive. I then heard a sermon from a man, "Corey Russel" on "Pursuit of the Holy". Corey was only about 3/4 of the way through his sermon and the Holy Spirit started a full scale conviction on me that made me want to crawl under the carpet that was glued down. I do not know how many other people felt the same way but I was totally broken. Then the next sermon was again from Mike Bickle and was titled, "Fellowshipping with the Spirit". Again I was being convicted and as soon as that was over I was determined to sit in the Prayer Room until I had a intimate discussion with the Holy Spirit. I sat there praying, listening to the worship, praying some more and then suddenly, I was there, fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit.
I tell you this story to bring me to one of the points that I want to make. During that Conference at IHOP started a "REVIVAL" in me, and the others that were with me, that has only become more intense as the days go by. I have been back to IHOP a couple of more times and listen to the Prayer Room as often as I can by webstream and my wife and I have taken a few of the Credit Courses offered from IHOP. This was not my fire but it became the fuel for my fire.
During this romance with God, I have been now lead to Sermonindex. And have found again fuel for my fire. Revival teachings from all of the same men that IHOP gleans from. And of course that sermon from Paul Washer on the 10 Indictments has just turned up the Bunson Burner.
I must say that the men and women that I have been taught by or have a relationship with from IHOP know their God. Just as I listen to men like Ravenhill, Paul Washer, and many of the others from this site I recognize that they know their God. This organization from KC called IHOP, "if it is correct to call it an organization", teaches and worships the same God as Tozer, Finney or Jeff Noblit. The main thing we all have in common is a great desire for Revival.
Through all of the teachings and sermons that I listen to and draw from, 4-6hrs a day, I have only noticed one thing that may draw a great opposition, and that is the different views of the End Times. My opinion concerning the End Times is only this, " I believe we should have a right understanding of this issue", and with the division of teachings on that, I say listen to the Holy Spirit.
I also want to get to the concern about The Call and Lou Engle. I have seen The Call and also have heard Lou preach a couple times at IHOP. Lou is a very different person than we would expect to see behind a pulpit, but his heart is for God. I occasionally think about the red tape on the mouth with the word LIFE. But, I would challenge any of you to stand in front of an Abortion Clinic or a Pro-Gay Ralley with a piece of Red tape over your mouth, on a line drawn in the pavement, and get spit on and called vulgar names and sometimes struck and not move an inch or fight back, but you will literally CRY because the only expression you have is with closed eyes seeking your God and the Holy Spirit just pouring his love on you. You see they do not do that because they hate, they do that because they LOVE.
You see, they worship and honor the same God. Just as all of us do.
I am not coming against anyone that has voiced their opinion about this I am truly just stating that the Revival in my heart and my hunger for Revival started there at IHOP, by the power of the Holy Spirit. And it continues daily, actually hourly, and the hunger increases.
I found that although I do need to gain knowledge, I must also grow my heart as fast, or I will loose discernment, and I ask you all to do the same. I have re-entered studies on the Attributes of God to help me in this area.
I pray that this letter was not insulting in any way toward any one person, it was not intended to be.
Blessings
Larry D.

I want to thank you larry, for an honest approach that involves actually being there, and hearing their teachings.

I had a similar experience with corey russell, who is a personal friend of mine, in which he was preaching on how God is the God who sees, and, hears, and our hearts and, sin are not hidden from Him.

As he preached, the conviction of God fell upon about a hundred people out of maybe 400, and I was one of them, I, and they began to tremble, and weep because the conviction of the Holy Ghost was so strong. Needless to say, the end result was repentance from sin, and lifestyles that moved in a more holy direction after that.

The disciples ask Jesus teach us to pray. Jesus's response back to the disciples was a model for prayer

Luke 11:2-4Luke And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Father, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Many ancient authorities read Our Father, who art in heaven Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we ourselves also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And bring us not into temptation.

When you go to the Ihop site they give you three methods of how to practice complementive prayer. When I read there instructions I see eastern religion. I see another path to enlightment which is not biblical. It might be that they are using scriptures but its the same methods as Eastern religion.

That is it, period.

Peter told Simon "Repent therefore of this thy wickedness" I do hope that I get a chance to say that to them one day God willing. But as for me going there and talking with them and listening to there teaching NO WAY.

I say again, you do not know these men, you do not know their teachings, and your heart is set to expose and divide, which is not God's heart at all.

I don't want to get to know them as I said before. Mormons can be nice people, Jehovah witnesses can be nice people but at the end of the day they have whacky teachings and are being misled by seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.

You are correct about one thing my heart is set to expose the lie your being fed and that will cause division because you either believe the truth or the lie. You might not like what I have said, I might have upset you but sometimes we need that to happen to us.

I ask you to go to God in prayer about IHOP honestly and with a open heart ask what is wrong there.

If I may I would like to respond to a couple of statements that were made by murrcolr, and please do not take this as an attack in any way.

Quote:
You think it's innocent please I beg go at look at eastern religions and see what you are involved in.

Me:
I have looked at the prayer life of eastern religions and I have found that some of them have had a Prayer Culture for 1500 years. This is something that todays example of a Christian has great lack of. And remember one thing, they learned the power of prayer, "although they pray to a false God", from the true Chritians.

Quote:

Me:

I know men that are Mormons and I know men that are Jehovah Witnesses also, and it does not take a long discussion to see the decieved direction they are going. I can not say this about my affiliation with anyone from IHOP, how can I? Their teaching and the direction they feel that God has laid out for them is totally Word Based with nothing blended in that causes me to question their hearts or motives.

Quote:

The disciples ask Jesus teach us to pray. Jesus's response back to the disciples was a model for prayer

Me:

I am sorry but I have to disagree that this was a response for a Model Prayer. Although the heading above Luke 11 may say "The Model Prayer" that someone else labeled, but not Jesus.
Jesus' desciples heard all of His messages, saw all of His miracles, witnessed many deliverances, and heard many gracious words, yet they never asked to be taught any of these great things. Somehow (perhaps by revelation), they realized that every one of those things was the fruit of Jesus' relationship with the Father. The subject of prayer was what caught their attention and curiosity. They asked Him, "Lord teach us how to pray", Luke 11:1. To whomever is caught up in calling this a model prayer please know this," This Is Leadership 101". The central concern of every disciple of Jesus should be PRAYER. Today, we have training on everything else but prayer, yet prayer was the one thing the disciples wanted to be trained in.

One of my favorite scriptures:
John 18:34 Jesus answered him (Pilate), "Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?"

35 Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have you done?"

36 Jesus answered, "My Kingdom is not of this world. If My Kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My Kingdom is not from here.

The Kingdom that Jesus is talking about is a Kingdom that we know nothing about, except through Prayer and a relationship with the Holy Spirit. The footsteps that we follow should be His and not our own agenda or what we feel is correct because we sort of feel that way or that is what someone told me.
I remember what Jesus said to His disciples James and John in Luke 9:54-56 they said, Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?

55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.
56 For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them."

That is one way in which Christ taught them to pray, have you studied the Hebrew meaning of pray, prayer, praying?

You will find that they are not all encompassed in the Lord's prayer, these methods with their different meanings are taught throughout the whole of scripture. Part of your limited approach is that you are not a dilligent researcher of the truth concerning this.

2nd, I have studied eastern religions, and I know quite a bit about them. I know mormon's and Jehovah's witnesses, and I have a friend who converted to christianity from the watchtower teachings after 3 1/2 years of the truth.

If I told you I was praying the Lord's prayer this morning and I feel into a trance, you would tell me that I am mixed up in witchcraft or eastern religion, but the disciples of Christ went into trances constantly.

Acts 10:10
And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

Acts 11:5
I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

Acts 22:17
And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;

But I can see why your vision is limited again, you do not read the whole of God's word in context, rather you single out a passage, and base things upon your emotions.

You have been misled and you are not aware of it.

You are speaking out of place and without knowledge, basing as I said your interpretations of the truth on emotion.

Peter told Simon "Repent therefore of this thy wickedness" I do hope that I get a chance to say that to them one day God willing. But as for me going there and talking with them and listening to there teaching NO WAY.

Are you that easily seduced, that you close your doors to everyone and just yell repent! repent! ?? By the way, simon the sorcerer was a believer.

You are correct about one thing my heart is set to expose the lie your being fed and that will cause division because you either believe the truth or the lie. You might not like what I have said, I might have upset you but sometimes we need that to happen to us.

The only thing that upsets me is your arrogance to believe you understand everything well enough from a few lines of text on their website. When I have done an indepth course on the issue we are discussing. You still hold to your illogical conclusions.

Kundalini Energy and Christian Spirituality by Ray Yungen

SpiritualityPhilip St. Romain, a substance abuse counselor and devout Catholic lay minister, began his journey while practicing contemplative prayer or resting in the still point, as he called it.

What happened to him following this practice should bear the utmostscrutiny from the evangelical community-especially from our leadership. Having rejected mental prayer as “unproductive” he embraced the prayer form that switches off the mind, creating what he described as a mental passivity. What he encountered next underscores my concern with sobering clarity: Then came the lights! The gold swirls that I had noted on occasion began to intensify, forming themselves into patterns that both intrigued and captivated me ...

There were always four or five of these; as soon as one would fade, another would appear, even brighter and more intense ... They came through complete passivity and only after I had been in the silence for a while. After this, St. Romain began to sense “wise sayings” coming into his mind and felt he was “receiving messages from another.”2 He also had physical developments occurduring his periods in the silence. He would feel “prickly sensations” on the top of his head and at times it would “fizzle with energy.”
This sensation would go on for days. The culmination of St. Romain's mystical excursion was predictable: When you do Christian yoga or Christian zen you end up with Christian samadhi as did he.

He proclaimed: “No longer is there any sense of alienation, for the Ground that flows throughout my being is identical with the Reality of all creation. It seems that the mystics of all the world’s religions know something of this.”

St. Romain, logically, passed on to the next stage with: The significance of this work, perhaps, lies in its potential to contribute to the dialogue between Christianity and Eastern forms of mysticism such as are promoted in what is called New Age spirituality.

Many people believe St. Romain is a devout Christian. He claims he loves Jesus, believes in salvation and is a member in good standing within his church. What changed though were his sensibilities.

He revealed: I cannot make any decisions for myself without the approbation of the inner
adviser, whose voice speaks so clearly in times of need ... there is a distinct sense of an inner eye of some kind of “seeing” with my two sense eyes.

St. Romain would probably be astounded that somebody would question his claims to finding truth because of the positive nature of his mysticism.

But is this “inner adviser” St. Romain has connected with really God? This is a fair question to ask especially when this prayer method is starting to spread within a broad spectrum of Christianity.

This practice has already spread extensively throughout the Roman Catholic and Protestant mainline churches. It has now crossed over and is manifesting itself in conservative denominations as well—ones that have traditionally stood against the New Age. Just as secular society has been hit by a tidal wave of practical mystics, so also has the religious world. St. Romain makes one observation in his book that I take very seriously.

Like his secular practical mystic brethren, he has a strong sense of mission and destiny. He predicts: Could it be that those who make the journey to the True Self are, in some ways,
demonstrating what lies in store for the entire race? What a magnificent world that would be-for the majority of people to be living out of the True Self state. Such a world cannot me, however, unless hundreds of thousands of people experience the regression of the Ego in the service of transcendence [meditation], and then
restructure the culture to accommodate similar growth for millions of others.

I believe we are only now beginning to recognize this task. A book entitled: Metaphysical Primer: A Guide to Understanding Metaphysics outlines the
basic laws and principles of the New Age movement. First and foremost is the following principle: “You are one with the Deity, as is all of humanity ... Everything is one with everything else. All that is on Earth is an expression of the One Deity and is permeated with Its energies.”

St. Romain’s statement was: “The Ground
God that flows throughout my being is identical with the Reality of all creation.”

The two views are identical! St. Romain came to this view through standard contemplative prayer, not zen, not yoga but a Christian form of these practices. The lights were also standard procedure as one contemplative author suggested:
Christian literature makes reference to many episodes that parallel the experiences
of those going a yogic way.

Saint Anthony, one of the first desert mystics, frequently encountered strange and sometimes terrifying psychophysical forces while
at prayer. Unfortunately, this experience was not confined to St. Anthony alone. This has
been the common progression into mystical awareness throughout the centuries, which also means many now entering the contemplative path will follow suit.

This is not just empty conjecture. One mystical trainer wrote: The classical experience of enlightenment as described by Buddhist monks, Hindu gurus, Christian mystics, Aboriginal shamans, Sufi sheiks and Hebrew kabalists is characterized by two universal elements: radiant light and an experience of oneness with creation.

Without the “radiant light,” there can be no oneness. The second always follows the
first. Here lies the heart of occultism.

Physical Symptoms and a Demonic by Roger Harper

Physical symptoms, which can include things like a tingling sensation, that occur during Soaking Prayer are similar to those experienced during the Kundalini experience, and both are dangerous and can take the practitioner into a demonic realm.

* * * * * * *

"Some of these phenomena are obvious: weeping, cries, exuberant and prolonged expressions of praise, shaking, trembling, calmness, bodily writhing and distortions, falling over (sometimes referred to as 'being slain in the Spirit'), laughter and jumping. Other phenomena are more subtle: slight trembling, fluttering of the eyelids, faint perspiring, a sheen on the face, ripples on the skin, deep breathing..." Wimber also said that people sometimes experience a sense of heaviness or tiredness, weeping or drunkenness." "SOAKING PRAYER" by Roger Harper

Well, if you don't believe in the demonstrations of power that the Holy Spirit uses, then it is obvious why you don't believe in prayer.

What you described of eastern religion has nothing to do with what IHOP teaches, nor was it the experience of about 450 classmates I had in my time there.

You seem to think al manifestations are evil. Are you aware that when John saw Jesus, he says "I fell as a dead man". he did not kneel down slowly, the power of God made him so afraid that he "fell down."

Also, you did not address the point I made about trances. Probably because you cannot. Maybe it is just that you do not know the supernatural God of the Bible. If you study the accounts where men met God, or experienced something supernatural you will be astonished at the physical results.

1 Samuel 19:23-24

23And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

24And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

Are you aware that Saul prophesied to Samuel naked?

Your faith sounds very dull, without any manifestations of God's power. But I suppose if you like not seeing God reveal himself that's ok. The children of Israel acted that way too.

Also, I think you ought to address some points that I make. It is ridiculous to assume that all manifestations are evil. The Bible certainly does not teach that.

Are you aware that the devil mimics the real thing in order to deceive? He makes up nothing on his own. You think that these things are of the devil, because you see the devil mimicking them. You are mistaken in what you think you discern.

The impurity of ignorance is in none so manifest as in the devout; for they act on their ignorance and fill themselves and others with miserable scruples and hard thoughts of God, and are as apt to call good evil as other men are to call evil good.

Me:
We should pay close attention to this truth from Ben. Everything evil is nothing but a facade. Remember that Satan is not the creator but rather the evil one that attempts to duplicate.

For the time has come when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

A youth pastor who had read Celebration of Discipline and began to practice its contemplative methods. The youth pastor became alarmed when while repeating a phrase over and over, he began to drift into an altered state of consciousness and realized such a mystical practice was more of an eastern style method than one endorsed in Scripture.

Ben you should look in the mirror and say that to yourself. I am not mistaken but rather you that's been decieved, you have believed a lie rather than truth.

Alright you hard heads, don't you think this has been beaten to death enough?

There is a 'both' in all this that cannot be discerned by pummeling each other like two drunken boxers in the 12th round, eyes swollen from the blows. Back in round 2, (or page 2) there are some links from others who are familiar with the situation as well - "Both" good and bad, warnings and praise.

This fight should have been stopped back in August, when it appeared to be over - Your personal fights ... ought not to be, but if you must, take it outside.

The fight is over. No winners, no purse and no rematch.
