Please pray for Jeff

S
sermonindex

I know a few people on here know our church song leader, Jeff Wooldridge. He's a faithful servant of the Lord and we've been so blessed having him as our song leader at Maranatha. Jeff has glaucoma and Tuesday morning around nine (central time). Jeff is having eye surgery to release pressure from behind of his eyes. I don't know the technical term for the surgery. It's a simple procedure but it does have an element of danger in it.

I would appreciate your prayers for this brother tomorrow morning.

Thanks!

Thank you so much for bringing this forward sister. For those who may not know, Jeff also led us all during the Revival Conference last year. A tremendous brother ... Will be praying.

Just last week, I was just listening to the videos of the various times that Jeff led us in hymn singing during the conference. Christians from many diverse backgrounds were singing in such a grand and warm softhearted voice together. I think this was due in large part to the humble submission and diligent study that was so evident in Jeff's spirit towards worship. Thank you for bringing his operation up Roniya, and do let us know the outcome.

There is blood behind the retina of Jeff's eye and he can only see light out of it. He will stay in the hospital for a few more days while a specialist tries to find out what is wrong. Jeff cannot see out of his other eye very well at all, so please pray for God to touch him and bring healing to this eye.

Here is the latest news on Jeff.

This morning the doctors said that the prognosis is not good and it looks like he will lose his sight in that eye. The doctors cannot operate for two weeks and in that time if the blood does not coagulate it will damage the retina resulting in blindness. This is his 'good' eye. The vision in his other eye is very poor.

A miracle is needed. And our God is able! Please pray!

P

Thanks for the update. Our church will pray about it tonight.

Hi Roniya...

Praying! My dad has had some issues with his eyes over the past couple of years. He needed several operations and was usually given a bad prognosis. My dad is in his 50s and much too young to lose his eyesight. The Lord heard our cries and my dad's condition stabilized and he has not lost any eyesight since. In fact, one of his surgeries actually improved his eyesight considerably!

My wife and I will be praying for Jeff! May the Lord do what the doctors cannot.

Praise God for sparing your dad's eyesight! That is an encouraging testimony of God hearing the cries of his children! Jeff is 32 and although I know he has been bracing and preparing himself for this, it would be a very hard trial for a young man like him to go through. Though I do believe that Jeff, whatever trials God takes him through, will come forth as gold tried and refined in the fire.

My wife and I will be praying for Jeff! May the Lord do what the doctors cannot.

A verse that i held dear when i was in the hospital with my daughter, when i did not know how things where to end. I share it often with those who struggle with health and difficulties.

Psa 36:9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

Father, we are praying for a miracle. Oh, Lord heal Jeff's eyes - completely and wholly. Touch him Lord, pour forth your healing waters. Cleanse him completely as only Thou can do. Thank you Father, for Your lovingkindness and Your tendermercies. We pray for this in the precious name of Jesus.

P

Oh Lord, please touch this precious brother's eye with the power of thy sovereign glory. Lord, we love thee, we worship thee, we lift our hands in spirit and truth, knowing well that whatsoever thou doest here shall be perfect and good and of the absolute best according to the plan thou hast laid out for our dear brother. We thank thee in Jesus' Name.

My brother brought Jeff to church on Sunday and it was a blessing having him there and seeing the saints gather around to support and encourage him. At the end of the service my dad asked him if he had anything to say and he said:

"Life is not sight. Life is Christ, and He never changes."

There really isn't any change in his condition. He cannot see anything out of that eye. And unless God intervenes, the blood behind his retina is in the process of destroying his vision. When I hear something I will post it.

Thank you so much for your prayers for this brother. I printed out this thread and gave it to him on Sunday in hopes that the kind words and prayers of the saints shared here would encouraging him. Do continue to pray for Jeff, for God to sustain and strengthen him during this trial.

C

Hi Roniya...

"Life is not sight. Life is Christ, and He never changes."

Wow! Although his earthly vision may be fading, it seems that his spiritual vision is still extremely sharp.

This quote reminded me of one by hymnist Fanny Crosby:

"It seemed intended by the blessed providence of God that I should be blind all my life, and I thank him for the dispensation. If perfect earthly sight were offered me tomorrow I would not accept it. I might not have sung hymns to the praise of God if I had been distracted by the beautiful and interesting things about me.

If I had a choice, I would still choose to remain blind...for when I die, the first face I will ever see will be the face of my blessed Saviour."

Our prayers are still with Jeff. We are praying that his condition is helped. But regardless of the outcome of our prayers, I am glad that he "sees" life for what it truly meant to be. May the Lord touch Jeff mightily!

:-)

Jeff was in surgery for over two hours. The doctors were not able to remove all the blood from his eye, but hopefully this surgery will relieve the pressure behind his eye. They will have to do the surgery again to remove the rest of the blood. The doctors said that his eye does not look good. He will be staying in the hospital tonight.

If I hear anything else I will post it. Thank you to all who prayed today. Please continue to lift up brother Jeff to the throne of grace.

Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens;
and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

Thy righteousness is like the great mountains;
thy judgments are a great deep:
O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.

How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God!
therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house;
and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

For with thee is the fountain of life:
in thy light shall we see light.

Here is an update that I received from Jeff. It has a more detailed explanation of all that has been going on. He has another doctor appointment on Wednesday. He expressed gratitude for the prayers and comments of the 'sermonindex people'.

Also, praise God that he led the music this morning in church. :) It was a great blessing to have our songleader back leading us in joyful worship and praise to our God.

--------------

Every time I have another surgury and learn more about how weak my eyes actually are, it is even more amazing that God has preserved my sight for so many years.

The second surgury (this thursday) has been a big help to how I feel and has been an answer to prayer, even though I still can't see out of the left eye.

The bleeding behind the retina after the first surgury left the left eye in pretty bad shape. The pressure was around 40 and a break had formed in a weak area of sclera back near the scleral buckle in my left eye. Pressure in the eye was forcing the blood trapped behind the retina out through this break so that a large blood clot formed under the conjunctiva.

In summary, this ended up making me feel pretty miserable. Couldn't stay awake during the day - couldn't sleep at night - no appetite for food - hard to concentrate.
Thie second surgury fixed all of this. The scleral break was repaired with doner tissue, the large blood clot was removed, and the pressure has stayed down so far.

The biggest answer to prayer was that more retinal bleeding did not occurr after the second surgury. That is what I was most concerned about.

The eye fluid is still full of blood, so we still have to wait to find out how much vision I may have left.

The steadfast love of the Lord still never ceaces! He never owed me the gift of sight, but he has given it to me for 32-years. He still knows the way that I take, and what is best for me. His grace is still sufficient, and in the meantime, I will have to wait and see what all of the end of this will be for me. I have still been keeping up with some of my workload and plan to go back for a few days next week.

Please pray that the pressure will stay down in the left eye as it heals.

Here is an update from Jeff:

The pressure in my left eye is now lower than it has ever been (this is good), and the vision has now improved to dim swimming images, as if thru very muddy, cloudy water. This vision is not yet useful, but it is a hopeful sign and a big improvement.

This is an answer to prayer because it gives evidence that the vision is not destroyed in that eye! There is still quite a bit of blood behind the retina that needs removed or dissolved. Keep praying!

It reminds me of these verses.

Mar 8:23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw aught.
Mar 8:24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
Mar 8:25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

I pray these scriptures are fulfilled in his life.

Just wanted to share a quick update on Jeff. I don't have the technical details on his recovery but his vision is improving. He even drove to church this past Sunday! We were really praising God for that!

Keep praying for God to do great and mighty things in this situation for His glory! He is alble.

Thanks for the good report Roniya.
