My wife...

S
sermonindex

Dear Saints,

Some of you know that my wife and I have been married for a little over a year. During that time we have prayed for and have been trying to have a baby. Since I met my wife, she has always had stomach problems, especially during her menstruation. Having never seen a gynecologist, she had always been reluctant to go, even by my encouragements. Last week, she finally agreed to go for a check-up.

Unfortunately (I'm reluctant to write that word, because I know God has everything under control),they found several cysts on her right ovary, but more troublesome was the large one on her left ovary. The doctor took some blood work and some other tests and asked us to come back within a month; after her next cycle. Since the visit, I have searched the Internet and have asked my mom about this and it seems to be 'no big deal' and 'quite common'.

Understanding that to be the case, I felt more at ease, but then today the doctor phoned back to say that my wife needs a shot (needle), to help protect any potential pregnancy which we may have, for she is lacking something in her body. Apparently (my info is just second hand information from a quick telephone conversation, translated into English from Korean), we will have to use contraceptives for the next three to five months, because there is a high likelihood that pregnancy within this period would result in a handicapped (i am not sure of the proper word) child.

As I am still in the dark about most of this, I would just appreciate some Saintly prayers. Maybe some or most of you, especially 'moms and dads' have experience in this area. For the rest of you...some good old prayer would be nice.

Blessings,
Brian and Mira... hense BrianMira

Brian, is your wife suffering from endometriosis? If so, I'm going to provide some links. The pain from endo can be moderate to debilitating (eg; pain almost every day and the pain can be very bad). Please do not take it lightly although endo is not that uncommon. There's no known cure for it.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EndoDocs/message/5430

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/erc/

Birth control pills and shots such as lupron have bad side effects such as loss of bone etc. Some never seem to recover from the side effects while some only have minimal side effects. Some do surgeries while some prefer natural treatment such as eating healthy foods instead of taking birth control and things such as lupron.

Giving birth actually cause endometriosis to be in remission for a while though it does not cure it.

Please really read. Those sites which I've provided are good. If planning on surgeries, please also read what type of surgeries to go for.

Praying

P
PaulWest

I'm very sorry to hear about all this, Brian. I'll be keeping you and your wife in my prayers. My wife is pregnant right now, and she's going through an extremely hard pregnancy. She's been out for work for over two months, and had to have gall bladder surgery a few weeks ago. She's still sore. They also found e. coli in her urinary bladder and she's lost over 30 pounds since late July. But this post isn't about me or Marissa or any of our problems.

Brother, the Lord will see us through no matter what happens, just like the Lord will see you and your precious wife though - no matter what happens. In the face of barreness and complications the strength of our Lord shines forth like the sun. There's something about barreness and difficult pregnacies (or not being able to conceive) that God uses to show His strength; whether it be with Abraham and barren Sarah, Jacob and barren Rachel, Jabez's painful birth, Hannah's barreness (the mother of Samuel), Manoah's barren wife (the mother of Samson), Elisha and the barren Shunammite, Elizabeth's barreness (John the Baptist's mother), and of course, the most miraculous birth of all which is our Lord coming forth from a virgin womb.

So, you see, we're in good company...and even better Hands.

Praying for your wives Paul and Brian. I was very sick with all five of my pregnancies, it was alot of time of resting and trusting. It was so bad I wanted to drive off a bridge and even thought about it as I was driving myself to the hospital. I know I wouldn't have done it but I was not in my right mind having gone months without nourishment or any rest. God knows though how much you can endure and will not suffer you to be tempted above what you can bear.(1 Cor. 10:13)

P
PaulWest

I was very sick with all five of my pregnancies, it was alot of time of resting and trusting.

All five were like this? Yes, I remember you telling me. Rebecca, you're a strong, strong woman. My dear wife is nearly traumatized as it is, and has vowed this child will be our first and last (God has an interesting way of making us eat our words :). Seriously, I wouldn't want to see her go through something like this again. She had surgery three weeks ago and is still very sick - taking out the defunct gall bladder was supposed to ameliorate the hyperemesis, not intensify it - and she is still vomitting almost incessantly. She's vomitted so much that her esophagus is burnt by all the hydrochloric acid coming up, and her throat bleeds.

I can't imagine going through something like ths 5 times. My wife calls it the "curse of Eve", and through it all she accepts God's judgment...but this doesn't stop the physical misery. Incidentally, the baby is doing very well; we took an ultrasound a week after the surgery and the baby is healthy and dancing around - and even smiling (at 15 weeks).

God is in total control, and God is in control of Brian and his wife too.

T
Theophila

To Brian,
If your wife doesn't like doctors/medicine, what i'm about to say mayn't make much difference but using oral contraceptives especially for a short period as her doc is a good strategy. The Lord does use doctors to help us. The side effects of OCPs are usually seen depending on dosage and long time use.
Since she's in such discomfort, I wouldn't ignore it as usual pain relievers mayn't help her.
Bottom line: please explore the docs recommendation.

To PaulWest:
Has her OB suggested 'Ondansetron'? It's a powerful medication used for folks with very bad vomiting. Your wife's hyperemesis may respond to it.

Neither of you can really understand how your wives feel but the One who knows is more than able to give you peace.

SHALOM.

Brian,

Blessings. My sister and i have gone through the same thing. She had surgery for hers to be removed about 2 yrs ago. She has never been married and she had to take contraceptives to help the cyst not to come back. She went to the doctor and everything seems to be going well. SHe still has some pain but not as extreme as she used to have it. I had surgery about a month ago and the doctor also gave me the pills. I never had such extreme pain and that is the reason why i never even noticed anything wrong with me.

I know this can be very "scary" but days before the surgery the Lord gave me this verse one day sitting at church. Mark 5:34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."

I had such peace the Lord gave me. May the Lord guide and take control over this situation. Praying for you and your wife.

L

Brian, I suggest you really check out the sites that I've given to you.

There are doctors specialising in endometriosis only and they will be way better to know what type of surgery etc to do. For example, if surgery is required, it should be cutting away the endo instead of ablation technique which will not get the deeper part of the endo. Gynaecologists may not know this for example.
Just an example.

Also, the site will also tell those that have positive and negative effects on things such as BCP, lupron etc.

Yea, I like that quote in "Rocky" even though I don't like the movie anymore:

"I didn't hear any bell yet!" :-D

That is a good quote! :-) But I wasn't saying that when I was sick.

and she is still vomitting almost incessantly. She's vomitted so much that her esophagus is burnt by all the hydrochloric acid coming up, and her throat bleeds.

I had the same symptoms she has. I have heard of women breaking ribs throwing up. That's the thing is you are throwing up with an empty stomach so it's just the acid in your stomach. I think I damaged my sternum. I was sick for the first seven months of all five pregnancies but they all turned out healthy thank God. :-)

It is very possible that both of your wives' problems could stem from too much Estrogen and they would really benefit from progesterone. It might be helpful to look into some natural remedies that might be more effective in healing than the traditional medical route. I'm certainly not very knowledgeable on this topic, but I do know that there is hope for these problems to be overcome and many women have been helped by taking a progesterone cream or progesterone vitamin E oil (the best stuff I've heard of is Progest E complex oil).

I'll be praying for both ladies to find healing and relief from their sufferings.

Vitamin B6 is helpful too but the problem is if your sick you can't hold anything down. I hate how they call it "morning sickness". It's not just in the morning for alot of women. For some it last all day into the night. It really wears you out big time, especially when your sick like that for months. I got to where the room was spinning and the walls felt like they were closing in on me. Then my breathing got really shallow and slow by about the seventh month out of pure exhaustion. Thank God I made it though. He knows how much we can bear. God is very merciful.

I wish I had not complained so much while I was going through that. It probably would have wrought a much greater work in me spiritually.

My advice is forget that saltine/ginger ale advice, unless it works for her because it didn't me and just eat whatever you desire that is healthy. For me I mostly ate cereal and fruit.

P
PaulWest

Marissa tried vitamin B6 - and vomitted the capsules up. She tried ginger and it made her even more sick. Hyperemesis is not really the same as morning sickness; it's classified as a disease which can be diagnosed by intense weight-loss and extreme vomitting and dehydration in women. This, in turn, leads to severe vitamin deficiency and subsequent hospitalization. My wife has already been hospitalized twice in the past two months, and was on TPN for about a week and a half before her laproscopic cholestectomy.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum

Before her surgery, nothing worked; no amount of saltines, water, gingerale, fruit, nothing. If she even saw a TV commercial on food she would begin dry-heaving bile and blood. I had to eat all my meals away from home...but the worst of it all was I couldn't brew my coffee in the mornings.

At that point, I seriously didn't know who was worse off - me or her :).

I know brother Paul, it's bad stuff. My husband is the same way when it comes to his coffee.:-) I wish I knew what causes it but I think it is the curse of Eve. Her symptoms sound just like what I had. I didn't get sick though if I saw something on TV but I did when my husband didn't know what to buy grocery shopping and bought a weeks worth of speghetti--and it was the spicy stuff--PREGO. I hate PREGO! But I always did the cooking and shopping and now he had to. I felt really bad about it. Than one night someone cooked fish---in the house!:-)

Than one night someone cooked fish---in the house

Oh man, if I cooked fish I think I would become our next client at the funeral home. Funny you speak of spaghetti - it must be a guy thing because I went out and bought a several pounds of pasta and spicy marinara sauce (my favorite), thinking I could boil noodles quick and easy after work...but Marissa just about had an aneurysm with my first bowl. Turns out the smell of noodles boiling in water wafted into our bedroom - beneath the closed door, mind you - and caused her to begin vomitting. So now I have a half a ton of pasta and sauce in the pantry and I can't eat any of it. All I can do is look at it and dream. I thought I had everything covered, turning on the stove vent and all. Pregnant women have noses like bloodhounds on steroids...and I found this out the hard way.

You could try cooking on the grill. :-) Your right about our keen sense of smell. I would get sick over the smell of the paper trees down the road.lol!

P

Yes, I've tried the grill too (we live in Texas, you know - the barbeque capitol of the world), but the problem here is that when I come inside the whole place smells like smoke (or so she says). Believe me, I've tried it all. The only recourse I have is to eat out. But she's gotten better since then, praise God, and is now starting to eat certain fruit like strawberries and pickles (yes, cucumbers are considered fruit, botanically), and she actually just called 15 minutes ago wanting me to bring her home some peanuts, potato chips and apple juice. Now I'm getting scared.

Well that is a definite improvement, praise God! I have been so burdened for you both all day having been there and done that ourselves. I know exactly what she is going through if that is any comfort to her. Then He showed me that Jesus became a curse for us. So the curse is reversed.

the pregnacies were without problem, take Him at His word, if your sick trust the sripes of Jesus, if pregnant believe the curse is gone, because Jesus became a curse for us , at the cross.

Dear Saints,

Again, I thank you for your prayers. My wife is doing all the things she usually does and getting along fine. However, we are no further along with the cysts, nor knowing the next step to take. Apparently, the doctor phoned yesterday and said that the blood test showed no signs of cancer (thank, God). Mira still has to go into the doctor and get a vaccination for any possible pregnancy.

None of this answers the questions as to why she has horrible pain during menstration and other bodily concerns such as continuous urination and bowl movements, even with the slightest amount of food intake. Last night and early this morning, she has been suffering from dry heaving. Another thing that she has noticed, which I am afraid to admit is that she is experiencing hair loss.

There is a chance that none of these things are related and that we will find a cure for everything, but the truth is that the symptoms, along with her teaching job (which I am trying to get her to quit or cut back from), her 'obsession' to also be a 'homemaker' and have everything 'perfectly' clean and tidy before starting her day, and the uncertainty that she feels at somewhat fault for not having a baby has added to her burden. I do help, really, but I feel that all of this is making whatever 'it is' much worse by the stress.

Like I mentioned, it becomes strenuous and trying on our relationship.

So, my prayer is not necessarily for 'healing', although I would not resist God's healing hand, but rather for more faith, hope, and definately for more LOVE.

T

OCPs also help with regulating her cycle which ovarian cysts may disturb. I'm not sure if her cycles are regular or not.

Paul,

I had to smile when I read this:

My dear wife is nearly traumatized as it is, and has vowed this child will be our first and last

Why? I am - or was - a very small woman, less then five feet tall and weighed less then 100 pounds when I started having babies. And I got BIG. And I hurt and vomited - a lot. Delivery was terrible. And I, too, thought it will be a lllooonnnggg time before I would ever want to go through anything like that again.

Well, would you know, after our son was three months old and no longer a newborn, I told my husband I want another baby! and soon! With this he was sure this female had lost her senses! But I went on and in time birthed a total of five children over the span of 12 1/2 years. Yes, you'll survive.

Is it not interesting what the Scriptures tell us about a woman in travail? Makes for some insightful reading, IMO.

Thank you so much, sister. You're right about the insighful Bible reading. I think my wife has used this experience to draw closer to the Lord, and realize, yes, sometimes the son or daughther of God must suffer like everyone else in the world. We get sick, we hurt, we die, but through it all the Lord is with us.

We're having a son! We weren't supposed to know the sex - we wanted God to surprise us - but last week during the ultrasound we saw something that dashed all our hopes for a surprise. I think Marissa is going to recant her oath, personally. The Lord's will be done.

Brian,

My heart goes out to you and your wife. It is so normal for a female to want to experience the pregnancy/birthing process. She just feels like she has been a tad bit robbed of her womanhood if she does not have this experience. This, of course, is not true, but our God-given instinct makes one feel this way.

May I be so bold as to suggest that if God is saying 'no' to this part of life to you now, that you will simply surrender this to HIM and ask him what he wants you to do instead? A person can become so absorbed with this desire that you can become oblivious to the needs around you, like perhaps provide a home to another needy child...

She did not say that this was the only cause of our infertility although it could be the problem.

So, my prayer is just to be in His will; no more and no less.

After a few moments we noticed something different...

Curiously, we proceed to leave the house and once down the street my wife realized that she forgot her wallet, so I suggested that we pick up another take home test. At home, she 'double checked' the directions and again we found something different...

Very curious now, I asked her to check out the other take home test and we noticed again something different...

Three tests, two bars on each test, which apparently indicate something not-so different and actually signify pregnancy, prompts me to inform you all that we are...unsure, but that we would appreciate Saintly prayer.

We will go to the doctor tomorrow and we will keep you up to date.

Although, on a lighter note, she has been getting plenty of R&R and I have been trying my best to meet her needs and wants, while at the same time make her smile and laugh.

We are both growing through this experience. God is wonderful and even as I type these words she is beside me sleeping on the floor (a Korean thing and actually comfortable...at times) and I sense the Holy Spirit filling my soul with His love, so that I can love her more.

Glory to Him,
BrianMira

Thanks for your prayers and words of wisdom.

Hi Brian,

I've been longing to ask how Mira's been doing, and found the answer to my question in another thread. Thanks for this little update:

my wife has been doing much much better. We had an ultrasound the other day (we are able to as often as we like) and the stubby (9 week) sweetheart started dancing. We were tickled.
That's great news!

Saints,

It has been some time since I have posted about our developments. Mira has been doing well and we have been regularly visiting the doctor. Actually, we will be going to visit our doctor today for the last time before we begin seeing a new doctor, where we have decided to have the delivery.

They said the due date is November 24th, but as you know dates change. Since, we are really uncertain about how much time we have, I am just requesting some more Saintly prayer over the next few weeks.

A couple of weeks ago, the ultra sound showed that our baby (Brianna Kimberly) was only 4lbs+, so we are praying that all is progressing and that Mira does not have any complications.

That being said, we truly want to Glorify God.

Thank you,
BrianMiraBrianna

That due date is less than 3 weeks from today. I pray for a successful delivery, and for the health and well-being of both your wife and beloved daughter.

Thank you all for your prayers and support.

As of Wednesday, November 18 at 12:50 pm, we became the grateful parents of an ever so cute (beautiful too) 5.6 lb baby girl.

I didn't leave Mira's side and helped with the delivery (the doctor wasn't there until late and they ended up doing a 'vacuum extraction'), but I thank God for enabling her to go through such an ordeal.

Thank God for women!

I will bring momma and daughter home Friday after a couple of days of rest. For now, off to work...

Thanks again and thank God.

Hi Brian and Mira,

WELL DONE!

Glad to hear you are all safe and sound, despite the mechanical assistance at the end.

May you all get some rest now... :-)

Please give Mira love and congratulations. I pray for an uneventful recovery, and that the baby quickly gets the hang of feeding regularly.

I praise God for His faithfulness to you all.

My wife and I found out we were pregnant not too long ago, shortly after, we found out she had a cyst on her ovary... Immediately worried we visited the doctor with no insurance, that was covered later we found out. We found out their are 2 types of cysts, ones that go away by themselves, and ones that don't. More common are the ones that go away by themselves, which, praise God, is the ones she had. We found out about a week or so ago her cyst is completely gone!
