Titus 3:4-5?

Could it be interpreted this way:
[b]Titus 3:4[/b] [color=990000]But when the goodness and love of God our Saviour appeared to man,
[b]:5[/b] He then saved us by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit. However, the goodness and love of God our Saviour did not appear because of works of righteous that men had done, but it appeared because of His own mercy[/color]
