I think "way off" is an understatement. It seemed like he might be going somewhere at the beginning and thought that the apologizing in the confessional, minus the confessional, might be a good idea. I think a lot of times Christians have used humanistic reasons for denouncing homosexuality. We shouldn't think it's wrong because we think it's gross. It's wrong because God says it is, but He still loves the people and longs for them to know Him. But the video quickly deteriorated into the basic humanistic love fest that Christianity seems to be today. I'd rather ruin someones day and save their life than make them smile and send them to hell. Like that one guy said, he heard there were Christians and felt they were condemning his lifestyle. Making them feel OK in their sin is more a condemnation than telling them God hates what they do.
All he is really saying is there are some
who claim to know and follow Christ but
have no understanding what that means!!
I watched the clip and emailed them. I believe this teaching is very dangerous. First of all Dan Merchant is upset that America is divided and blames Christians for this. While we (meaning Christians) need to be motivated out of love when we witness to the lost, the message of Jesus can bring division because often people don't want to give their lives to Christ.
Luke 12:51-53 (KJV)
51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Secondly, after emailing them with several questions they told me that they are trying to get people to like Christians so that they will like Jesus. Salvation is about so much more than liking Jesus or thinking Jesus is just some good man.
Finally, after asking them why they are against James Dobson they would not answer me but sent me a link to reviews of the film. Here is one review, tell me if you see anything wrong with it.

I see whats happening in America, along with this film, as the apostasy that is prophesied will take place in the last days. What good does it do anyone if we are nice to them but withhold the truth from them?
I am back again. First I posted, reread and it seemed I posted on the wrong thread. Then when I looked for the link I was responding to I saw it in the post above mine written by fieldlaborer.
This is the my response to it, not the one that was posted in the lead post.
I am responding to this blog: http://nppnblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/city-impact-portland-or-new-way-to.html
Here it is :
Quote from blog:
"What we're saying now," Palau adds, "is wouldn't it be amazing to partner with the city and corporate leaders to make the community better?"
Imagine Jesus saying this, or his disciples. I suppose if he would have, he would not have been crucified. And if his disciples would have they would not have been persecuted, either.
My opinion.

I am happy to hear you emailed them brother because it sounds very dangereous to me too.

Let me ask you a question in return; why do think A. there are so few Jews today, who have confessed Messiah Jesus?
is there anything that would make the Jewish people envious of so great a salvation via the witness, walk and or love of the modern evangelical church?
do you think it might have something to do with over 1700 years of memory of being hounded persecuted and killed by "christians", who had the words, "kill a Jew for Jesus!" shrieked from the mouth of either crusaders, cossacks, german lutherans or christian identity neo nazi's in the us?
I'll confess, sometime's i read posts on this forum, that make my skin crawl, sometimes i hear things uttered in the public marketplace by purported Christian leaders, that make me want to go hide in a cave in shame, at how perverted the Message of Salvation, the Message of the Resurrected Messiah has become....a TELEVISION PREACHER calling for the assassination of a foreign democratically elected president of another nation? the leader of the NAE, who shrieked loud and long about homosexual marriage, all the while he himself was enagaging in drug soaked homosexual whore-mongering? a freak revivalist. covered in tatoo's, playing with God to enrich his purse, feed his lusts, divorce his wife, and then magically get "restored" by another fleshling and start the whole mess over again?
it makes me sick, so many hypocrites have taken a beautiful concept, "evangelical", and made it a stench in the public place.
But personally, i can never go back. I KNOW Jesus is Messiah, Risen from the dead, His Blood is wholly sufficient to cleanse us from all sins, Jesus is the Answer, the Only Way, i can never go back, Praise His Name, but a lot of His purported followers?
religionists.....or should i say, religion kills, Jesus saves.
I must concur with my fellow colleague.I saw nothing dangerous in this video.......Frank
Let God do the changing. We need to accept people the way they are without telling them anything in the way they should live, let the Holy Ghost convict and convince them of their sin. Jesus sat with homosexuals, harlots and thieves and not once is it ever said that He condemned anyone for being what they were, accept for the Pharisees. He told them stories and shared the love of God. God save us from His followers.
Most people don't understand why they are the way they are. They grew up in a Christian home, in the closet scared to tell anyone their secret because the Church has a nasty way of exposing and pointing the finger with condemnation. They know something is wrong, fear drives them away from the church where they find love and acceptance of those that have the same problem. Because of that love and acceptance they will protect that even though they have become deceived. If we did our part in the first place none of these people would have to run away. We could have accept them the way they were. "It's the goodness of God that leadeth men unto repentance". I remember a woman who came into the church practically nothing on, and as she was walking down the aisle a sister took her coat and went right up behind her and covered her with God's love. She didn't call her names, she didn't put her down for coming into the Church looking like that, she let the convicting power of the holy Ghost do His work in and through her.
God save us from your followers who love to relish in condemning that which you have paid a great price and atone for and made clean by your blood.
When we say, "God loves the sinner and hates the sin". Bad words to express to a homosexual. For their sin is who they have come to believe. When we say that to them, they are hearing you say that God hates them. No wonder they hate God, I would too. No, God loves period!!
Holiness will spread repentance into their soul.
Greetings Neil
I don't have an answer to your question. I know some people of Jewish decent but they are all Christians so I am sorry I don't have an answer for you as to why there are so few Jews who have come to know Jesus as Lord.
I watched the video and well I did not feel like it was dangerous I did come away from it feeling like maybe there is some compromise with it. That was just my take on it.
As for some of the other things you mentioned, I honestly don't know to much about those who are on the television or who are running the structured churches in America because I have not attended a church in over eleven years now.
I was just asking Frank if he felt that any part of the video seemed like there might have been some compromising going on was all. I was just curious about his opinion was all.
On another note, How have you been Neil? I hope your health is improving. I have been praying for you. Your absolutely right Jesus is the only answer, sharing with others their need for Him is what we are called to as His followers.
God Bless you and take care of yourself:)

Hi Maryjane,
I think peolple may have the biggest problems with the confesional where the man apolgized to homosexuals and also the critisisms of Pat Robertson and Dr Dobson. I have no problem with Christians confessing to any group of people for a lack of love. If we do not have love as per 1 Cor 13, then we profit nothing.
As for Pat and Dr Dobson, I have critized both of those men on this very forum. It is no secret that I believe that they led the Christian community deep into the bowels of politics and were merely used by certain politicans for political gain. (please no debate on those points, its all been said:)
What did you think was compromise Maryjane? ......brother Frank
Greetings Frank

I did think that this part seemed compromising to some degree. I guess I would like to have heard the person go on to share more of Jesus with them. It is very important to let others know of Christs love but its equally important to share with them about the condition of their hearts(no matter what sin they are in) and their great need for Jesus.
In my own experience I have learned that we only have so many chances to share with a person who is lost and if we fail to share fully the gospel of Jesus with them there may not be another opportunity. I have had to learn this the hard way, I did not speak loving truth about the sin someone was in and now they are gone, its to late. Of course when ever we share with another it must be with a Christ centered and loving heart but with out compromise.

I do not follow either of these two men personally so I don't really have much to say concerning them. No debates from me:)
Thank you for your response. I appreciate it.

you should watch the whole movie they present brother that was only 10 minutes of it.
A couple of other things to note that I did not post earlier that bothered me. Why do they use quotes from the likes of Al Franken and Bill Maher to get make their point? Maher hates Christians. Also, the film won awards from beliefnet.com. The homepage on this site lets you pick what religion you believe, hindu, muslim, buddism, mormon, or Christianity. If this movie presents the Gospel as it should be don't you think a web site like this would reject it? Instead it wins an award as best spiritual documentary. As far as people saying that we should not let others know they are in sin read Ezekiel 33.
Finally, it sounds like Dan Merchant read this post and took it to heart
We must reach out in love, but we must not compromise the truth.
beloved,
i bear guilt in that my words may seem angry, AND directed towards you, or others here. I beg forgiveness if it was taken that way, from you or anyone reading these words, and anyone who was such offended, please forgive me.
as God puts it in my heart for the Vine, the people of my flesh, i have much much grieving. among the Jews, there are those who love Yahweh, dearly, there are those who thirst for righteousness, and they are so close, and yet so far, and sometimes i feel in the depth of my heart, that there is a fell wall of 1700 years, a witness of Messiah Jesus must CUT thru, to prick their hearts, open their ears, open their hearts, and i am only just one lonely saint, i speak this way, in the morning, because i'm right in the middle of my devotional Scripture reading. i dont say that to boast, if such boasting be, Let it be in the LORD GOD, fore it is He who gives me the Hunger to eat of His Word, one of three gifts He has given me, and I'm in Isaiah right now, started this morning in Isaiah 48, then into 49, with the Third of the Four Suffering Servant Songs that speak SO CLEARLY of Messiah and His Call to the "nations", and then into then into the Fourth Suffering Servant song, chapters 52-53....such joy! my fingers are inadequate to even innumerate this holy joy i feel, that God would send HIs SON Jesus to us, ALL....to the world.
You know Mary Jane, when God revealed His Son in me, and to me, it was no man that preached a Gospel message, i wasnt sitting in a Church, (though once recieved this Revelation of Jesus, i made my way to the Church God had selected for me) i was up in a house trailer on a horse ranch alone broken and weeping, praying, "God please be with me", over and over again, and He took mercy upon me, and revealed His Son Jesus Messiah to me, and there was only one Path available to me, the path to Golgatha, to the Cross, to the Blood, and to Jesus.
and it grieves me no end that my fellow Jews, who love God, havent recognized that the waiting is over, He HAS COME, the Holy One of Israel.
as to my health, praise God i still have breath, sometimes our food is the bread of affliction, and our drink is the cup of our tears, and it is good, God refines one in such a furnace of affliction, and thank God, i have never raised a fist to my Father asking why, i just thank Him for His Rod, and His Holy Spirit, That comforts us all, who shelter under His Wing.
again, i deeply apologize for hasty words, its just the outpouring of a broken heart, know that i love you in the Glorious Riches of the Risen Messiah, and in my heart, as i love all of my brothers and sisters, fearfully knit together in the fullness of time.
in Jesus' love, neil
I'm curious. I wonder why people were going into confessionals? Did they know that someone was going to apologize for some wrong or prejudice exercised by a group against them? Or were they reaching out for some thread of salvation from sin? I guess I'm wondering if these 'penitents' (I think that's the term used for those going into confessionals)went in looking for some light. If this was the reason for going in, and what they received was a sense of comfort or justification (this seemed to be the general reaction of those exiting the confessional), does that not just deepen the darkness? I take issue with the phrase, "Lord, save us from Your followers." I pray that the Lord will bring me to His followers - not the ones who claim His name, but live contrary to His ways - they are not HIS followers. Many will say, "Lord, Lord" to whom He will say, "I never knew you." Don't the true followers of Jesus lay down their lives, rather than take life? It seems that to apologize for the sins of a group who only claim the Name, but show no lasting fruit, who appear to be following another Jesus with another gospel, to apologize for that group's sins seems to dilute the blood of the precious martyrs who have demonstrated being true followers of Christ by laying down their lives. I'm crying out for the Lord to bring me to that group, not to save me from them.
Prayerfully submitted
David

Brother, this battle in initiated by the Enemy. He will do everything he can to subvert the Gospel. Always. The Enemy will use religious leaders to promote his agenda. Actually, he has better success in using these religious leaders then he does using totally secular ones because they do not know the language.
Neil, the church I belong to carries a name that goes way back to reformation era. The larger segment of this church has apostatized and they embarrass me, too, to no end. They have departed from the simplicity of the Gospel and exchanged it for a social gospel, one that works to improve society by humanitarian methods. No preaching against sin. In the past they were even reluctant to speak out against abortion! Now how much worse can it get? Embarrassing. But you know what? I am not responsible for their apostasy. Others have tried to warn them but to no avail. These prophets are mocked and scorned. Today I feel closer kinship spiritually to the likes of Paul Washer, who is a Baptist and who likely holds different views on some doctrines I consider important.
This is life, Neil. Be encouraged. God still calls people to himself. Unfortunately, it may not be the ones you would love to see redeemed. I can say this for my extended family as well: they have discarded the faith like a moth eaten garment!
Blessings,

Perfect snufalapagus! Man says judgment - God says mercy. The sister who put the coat on the lady truly had God's heart. The ushers could have come and rushed her out and completely turned her away from knowing God and being delivered. Oh, that there would be more like her in every Church. God help us!!! I don't think we really get 1 Cor. 13 so much of the time. 1 Cor. 14:1 Pursue love. Where is our love, our joy, our peace - Zac Poonen said we are to be like little children, a child might have come up and said how pretty the colors were in her outfit!!! Zac also said we are to leave things in the hands of our Heavenly Father and as we do that the peace, the joy & love comes. The more we sit at the feet of Jesus and learn of Him, them more we fall in love with Him and the more we encourage ourselves when challenges come our way to choose His ways.
I got several chances to do this on my trip as situations came up that were challenging I had a choice to panic or to trust and rest. Not a place to stay in a blizzard, God provided a rustic cabin in the middle of nowhere for me. A true blessing since I am a mountain gal. A flat tire in the middle of nowhere - all alone - God provided a young man to change it for me. Motels were all full coming back and I had my two dogs. God provided a motel 6. Not a nice place but I got the last room. And since I just had recently listened to Zac on this matter I was able to put it into action and the results were fantastic. I got help and was blessed and was able to bless others as I did not panic. I had peace and joy and was able to love others and let my light shine. I loved it. This is how I always want to be. God help me, God help us all to trust, rest, joy, have peace and love. They will know we are Christians by our love. Amen and Amen!
HI Maryjane, you write....
"It is very important to let others know of Christs love but its equally important to share with them about the condition of their hearts(no matter what sin they are in) and their great need for Jesus."
I think right there is a good point to talk about. I will give you an example from my own life. Prior to coming to Christ I was a drunk. I got saved at the age of 26. By that time I had been married for nine years, lost one child and had a six year old. Often when I was drunk I would go visit my mother, a very Godly woman. It must have grieved her heart to see her oldest son turn out just like his father. Not one time did she rebuke me for my lifestyle or my drinking, not once. She would talk about Jesus. She would speak from her heart and share what Jesus has spoken into her heart that day or what He was doing in her life or how much she loved Jesus, it was interwoven into everything she did and said. My very cold heart would always be slightly warmed in her presence. I felt tremendous conviction about my lifestyle, not because she rebuked me for it, but because the Holy Spirit was about His work, convicting me and wooing me. I continued to to visit her. Would I have continued to visit her if I got lectures? I doubt it. o, what am I trying to say? I guess what I am trying to say that it is the Holy Spirit that does the convicting of in. We are commisioned to share the Gospel and make disciples, to share the good news. And what is the good news? That God so loved the world that He gave HIs only Son for it? Yes, I think that is it. Do all men already know they are sinners? Yes, accroding to Scripture they do.
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.
You see, all men suppress the truth, which means they hold it down, the push it down and cover it. That is why there is no such thing as athiests, they may say that, but God has planted the knowledge of His existence in them. They choose to ignore it for the sake of living their lives the way they want to live it, but they are guilty before the living God. This is His work, His Holy Spirits work, and it is revealed through the Love of Calvary. So, I say, let the Holy Spirit do His work and let us do what we are called to do. The Spirit of conviction comes when we walk in the power of Truth and love. When we love our enemies, when we give water to our enemies, coals of fire are heaped upon them. For many Christians they long to see the coals of fire heaped upon sinners, yet only through the convicting power of the Holy Spirit can this happen and that Spirit moves when we move as we are called.
No coals of fire come when there is no love. Sinners are not drawn to Christ when there is no love in the Christian sharing the message, we only futher alienate them. Without love burning in our hearts for the lost, we may as well never share the Gospel, for we will never see anyone saved if we do not have the Love of Christ burning in our chests. Love for the lost cannot be faked, they can spot a phony at a thousand yards. So I would say to anyone who has never saw anyone come to Christ when they have shared the Gospel(Barna says that that is 92% of Christians) to cry out to God for a love for their enemies, this is where the battle lies. Jesus did not come to condemn, but to seek and to save the Lost. Let us walk in that path and let the Holy Spirit do His work............brother Frank
Greetings Frank
I was very touched and moved by your heart felt testimony concerning your mother. I do agree that when we share with others we must allow Jesus to speak through us. There must be none of self, and our hearts even when sharing and speaking about sin must be centered on Christ Jesus and filled with His love.
Please so that you will understand my heart allow me to share my story if I may. In my case, there were so many occasions I held my tongue with both my brother and my dad. I tried to speak to them both of the love of Christ and never really spoke to them concerning their sin. Both are gone and while I may have tried to share love, I never used the opportunities God gave me to share His truth, that we must repent of our sins, take up our cross, die to self and seek to live our life in obedience and submission onto the Lord. My dad often said he knew he was a sinner but he held on to deceived notions that he would be saved by following certain rituals and traditions. He died confessing his sins to a man, to a priest, asking a priest to forgive him. He never talked to Jesus, he never asked Him for forgiveness directly. My brother believed that God is love and that he is so loving that He would never really send anyone to hell.He drank and did drugs and lived his life believing a lie. I wasted so many opportunities to speak truth into both of their lives, I was to concerned that they would not like what I had to say or that they would get upset. For me, I am seeing that Jesus does not chase people down and beg them to follow Him. He says clearly, repent and follow Me. I hear so many people say that God loves you just the way you are and a part of me wonders, "IF God loves me just the way I am then why did He send His son? why does He call me to die to who I am "self", so that I can be born again as a new creation? If He loves me as I am, then why is my life after coming to Him changed so dramatically?"
As I read over the last part of what you shared something struck me, its something that often has come up with my mother. How can a daughter who knows Biblical truth, show her love for her unsaved mother. Does she do so by saying, "God loves you just as you are, go ahead and pray to mary it gives you comfort. Talk to the priest, you'll feel better, just remember God loves you so much." Or does this daughter say, "mom Jesus does love you, but these traditions from the RC you hold to, they are not of Him. He wants your whole heart, He wants you to know Him, to talk to Him, to walk with Him every day. He does not want you to go to a priest when you need to repent, He wants to hear from you personally. When you hurting He does not want you to talk and pray to mary, He wants to take you in His arms and comfort you Himself. By holding on to these things, these traditions in your life, your holding on to idols and that's sin that keeps Him far from you. That could if you don't repent of these things and allow Him to work in your heart could lead you to death." (Which is a real and deep expression of love from a daughter to her very ill mother? Its been on my heart for some time now)
These are some of the things on my own heart and why I am cautious of things that appear as compromise. Thank you for sharing your heart as well. I don't claim to have all the answers, just humbly searching to know His heart and will on these matters.
God Bless
maryjane
HI Maryjane,
Thats a good reply to my reply :) Just so you know, I was born and raised a Catholic, Catholic education, Catholic marriage, Catholic church buried my first son, Catholic community in Scotland. I am well aware of the issues that surround witessing to Catholics as well as the vilest sinners(I was one in the literal sense)
I would stand by what I wrote in my first reply. Remember, just because your brother said it, does no make it true. All men know in their hearts that they are sinners and are seperated from God. They will stand and give an account before the living God and they will have no defence, including ignorance. I did say that we were to share the Truth in Love. Let me give you an example. After my own fathers conversion, he hated Catholicism. Now I hate it too. Yet he gets angry at Catholics and is known a Catholic basher. He never gets close enough with any Catholic to share the Truth. Let me give you one example from my sharing with a Catholic. I was standing in my neighbors house one time. She is a Catholic. She had a very staunch Catholic frined over visiting that day. The staunch Catholic freind was laying into her about her son who was living in sin. When she was finished, I began to speak about Jesus. Howe I met Him and how He changed my life and how much I loved Him. I had the "floor, for 20 uninterrupted minutes. When I was finished, there was ten seconds of silence. She then said these words that I will never forget "I do not know the Jesus that you are talking about." You see my point Maryjane? I shared the Truth in love , the Holy Spirit convicted her heart, and then she confessed that she did not "know," Jesus.
When the subject is raised by your mother or anyone else, you can explain what you believe. Never worry about the Truth competing with their lie. Let the other side raise the issues, believe me, if you are walking in the Spirit, every issue will come up and it is important that we take our openings when we get them. I had one co-worker say to me, without me evey saying anyhting about her "Are you trying to say that If I die tonight, I would go to hell?" I never said anyhting about her, but the Spirit of conviction was at work, she had the revelation and I confirmed the Truth. When people know that you love them, you get away with so much more becuase it is all the Holy Spirits work. I have entered into His rest and ceased from my works. It is no longer I that live or work, it is Christ that lives and works in me and through me and that is why all the glory is His. Speak the Truth in love when He makes the opneings sis, without fear of consequences, and you will see a radical difference in your sharing. You will begin to speak with "Katanusso," power. You can see what that is at this link.... http://scottishwarriors.wordpress.com/2008/05/27/stabbed-in-the-heartbaptism-in-the-holy-spirit/ ...Frank
Greetings Frank
I thought I remembered reading before on another thread that you were at one time a Catholic, that is how I knew you would understand some of those things that I shared about my family:)
You wrote:
I would stand by what I wrote in my first reply.
Dear brother please do not feel as if I was trying to sway you to my side or point of view with what I shared. That was not my intention at all, I was just attempting to express what the Lord has put on my own heart. I realize that the Holy Spirit moves differently with how He leads us to share with those God gives opportunity for us to share with. I know that for some just sharing Gods love to those who have never experienced love is enough to convict their hearts and point them to Jesus. I know that there are some who are so deceived by self and the desires of their flesh that they honestly do not think themselves to be that bad a person. Since my dad was RC he always saw sin in degrees of sin. He knew he was a sinner just not that bad of one. My dad would tell me so many things and then he would add, but I'm not a bad person, not compared to some. I really am pretty good guy when you consider what some do. My dad never really did see that all those little sins that he just excused off where the very sins that nailed Jesus to the cross.
I hear what you are saying about your dad and his hate for the RC and how this keeps him from being able to with the love of Christ share and extend himself with others. It is a fine line I think or maybe a narrow path when we go out into the world to share Jesus with others, that's probably why its so vital that we stay really close to Him and not let self get in the way:) For me I have had to check my heart often and even ask others around me before I speak with my mom now because as much as I hate the bondage the lies of the RC holds on her, I love her and those who are still lost and deceived in the RC. After all I was once just like them, lost and deceived in need of my Savior.
The story of how you shared with that lady is really very wonderful. Did you ever have opportunity to speak with her further? Did anything come from the first seed planted when you shared with her?
My own mother is a difficult case, she see Jesus and the RC as one and the same. She does not believe the Bible is the only authority on Jesus to be followed, there are priests, the Pope, and the Holy Mother Mary as well as all the past saints that we must look to in our walk and devotions to walking with the Lord.
And I just realized how long this has gotten(sorry) and how far off the original topic as well. Sorry about that to.
God Bless you Frank and thank you for your council and sharing your heart on these things. In the end I think we are both wanting the same thing to share with others the Love of Christ with out compromise.
maryjane
i think a big problem was that he was apologizing to homosexuals but his assumption is that all christians are hateful to them, but in actuality homosexuals really just don' like are stand against homoexuality because scripture speaks against, some have been treated bad but most don't like how the Bible speaks against it and they say that is christian cruelty, no we are standing for the truth, but that must be done in love but never not tell them the truth. I use to struggle with homosexual feelings but praise God he delivered me. We can't give up biblical truth and think that is love, that is not love, not telling them truth.
Hi Bible, you can never go wrong speaking, as led by the Holy Spirit, the Truth in love..........Frank
HI Maryjane,
I understand fully what you are saying about your dad, I just would not have believed your dad thats all. People say all manner of things, yet at the heart of it all they do not want to surrender their lives to Jesus. Its rebellion, pure and simple. That is why I quoted Romans 1. Men and woman will do all manner of things, whether it is worship a clay idol, or cut down a tree and use part of it for fuel and the other part carve into an idol, or worship Mary or whatever. Its all rebellion and the rebellion stops when they come before the Lord.
I am sure that all of your family know exactly what you are. None of them will be ignorant of who you are or what your life is about. Its not so much that they are Catholic, its more about the fact that they want nothing to do with what you are and they would refuse to bow the knee to the Lord Jesus Christ and take all of Him, not just the parts they like(the real meaning behind John 6)
So, speaking the truth in love is always the answer. If your dad claimed he was a sinner but not that bad compared to others, then of course we could have talked about all of our righteousness being like filty rags before the Lord and so on. I have found Catholics are very reluctant to dismiss Scripture if prsented with it. I always like to ask them, if the Holy Spirit gives me an opening, what did Jesus mean when He said that a man must be born again to enter heaven, and then kinda take it from there. I do try and avoid using the phrase "you are wrong," but would rather say something like, "well here is what that means to me," and then share my testimony....brother Frank
Many times, the people at church are closer to us than our family's are and when you walk in and say, "hi so and so" and they turn the other way and so you try someone else and they do the same thing; you are getting the silent treatment (being shunned) without explanation I might add, you will not understand this video.
I totally understand Bill Maher comments that Jesus was THE greatest philosopher of all and that "it's a shame that most of His followers act nothing like Him." I don't personally believe Jesus was the greatest philosopher!!! But I agree that most of Christ's followers act nothing like Him (edit = including myself in times past).
I went to a church for five years and fell in love with these people and was shunned without explanation but I know what I did though. The pastor told me he was a prophet and I should listen to him and submit to him and I told him that he was not a prophet, he might be called to be one but he certainly didn't occupy the office of a prophet. I'm sure they all heard his side of the story and therefore, no one asked for mine. They didn't even follow biblical discipline, they didn't even pass go, they went directly to "shun her!!"
After this church experience, if I could have found where to buy that bumper sticker, "Jesus, save me from your followers," I would have had it on my car in a heartbeat and drove to church with it!!! So I totally got this video. I'm thinking that if you've never been "totally" rejected by your biological or spiritual family, then some of you may not be able to understand this video.
I was a heterosexual believer being treated this way, I cannot comprehend telling someone who may or may not be saved that God hates them or they're going to hell.
i think a big problem was that he was apologizing to homosexuals but his assumption is that all christians are hateful to them, but in actuality homosexuals really just don' like are stand against homoexuality because scripture speaks against, some have been treated bad but most don't like how the Bible speaks against it and they say that is christian cruelty, no we are standing for the truth, but that must be done in love but never not tell them the truth. I use to struggle with homosexual feelings but praise God he delivered me. We can't give up biblical truth and think that is love, that is not love, not telling them truth.
I don't think that is a big problem. There is an old saying that says, "you get more flies with honey than you do vinegar." I admit that there are militant homosexuals out there but you know what? There are militant christians as well who have ruined it for the rest of us who would walk up and talk rationally to them about Jesus and His ways.
The guy in the video never said anything about NOT offering the truth. He was trying to shine light on some of the bad mistakes we've made in the past. That's just my opinion though!
God bless,
I understand fully what you are saying about your dad, I just would not have believed your dad thats all.

Greetings Frank
There are times when I think about my dad and where he may be at this moment and there is a part of me that hopes very much that maybe he was just saying those things to me, but somewhere deep down in his heart he knew and in those last few hours before he died he spoke to Jesus himself about his sin. I will never know for sure, but God knows and that is good enough for me.
My mom hates if I try to share scripture with her. She is so firm in her faith in the Catholic church that she actually feels as if I am trying to steal her faith or take something from her if I talk to her. She has told me she will never part with mary, I am the one who has a problem not her. I spend a lot of time in prayer for her. Coming from your background as you do I know you know or have probably dealt with this attitude as well. Thank you for sharing with me today brother. I feel that it has been a really good exchange and I have profited much from it:)
Lysa I do know what your talking about being rejected.I have gone through this before and in some ways still am. It can be a very painful hurt to overcome, its easy after going through things like that to want to close yourself off away from others completely.
God Bless
mj
From what I have read we all agree that Christians must be motivated by love when telling the truth. There is no denying that there have been some that have crossed the line and have attacked the lost instead of trying to just shine light in the darkness. We must remember to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves, making sure we are the salt of the earth.
Colossians 4:5-6 (KJV)
5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
The major problem that I have with this film is that there is no salvation message. After all if we leave behind the truth what good are we doing if we are just nice people.
Matthew 5:13 (KJV)
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Finally, I disagree with those that say we should not oppose wrong teaching or sin. After all Jesus himself commended the church of Ephesus for opposing the Nicolaitans.
Revelation 2:6 (KJV)
6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
What are the deeds of the Nicolaitans? From what I have read it can be defined this way: Antinomianism: A belief that is based upon a recognition of the mercy of God as the ground of salvation, but it makes the fatal mistake that man can freely partake in sin because the Law of God is no longer binding.
Sin brings death, and how can we just sit by and watch the lost race towards hell without warning them? If we really love them don't you think we will tell them the truth?
Back to the church at Ephesus, while they were correct in opposing the Nicolaitans they had left their first love. This church was no longer opposing this heresy out of love for their savior, they were motivated by something else.
Let this be a lesson for us today that while we must oppose sin, we must be a watchman as Ezekiel was, and we must speak the truth, we have to do it out of love for our savior.
I believe we will see more and more of this teaching, a preaching of Christ that does not confront people in their sin, a Christ that is just a good man who can be compatible with any other form of religion, and a Christ that loves everyone and rescues no one from their sin. This is why I believe the movie is dangerous, it preaches another Christ than the Holy Bible.
Galatians 1:6-9 (KJV)
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

This was not the Nicolatians but the gnostics. Antinomianism is a flagrant dis-regard for the commandments of God. If one would like to see how the Holy Spirit delt with gnosticism, read Colossians. When error is taught, teach the truth. The truth spoken in love is the power of God working in perfect harmony. Its not one or the other, it must be both. Just as the Lord must be worshipped in Spirit and in Truth, so we must share the Truth in love. Loving one's enemies is not a weak position, it is the strongest postition.
Did the Apostles speak out against Artemis? Did they speak out against the Romans and their Gods? No, they spoke the Truth in love and were killed for it. They spoke of Jesus. They had no agenda against any particular groups of the day, they simply focused on the Truth which, by the way, is more than enough to get you in a world of trouble. If you wanted to see the downfall of Artemis, you did not preach against Artemis, you taught that there was but one God and let the people come to their own conclusions.
If anyone wants a cause, take on the cause of Truth. Highlight that. Lift up the name of Jesus , speak boldy and declare His Truth, stay focussed on that and the kingdom of darkness will tremble. The trouble today is that issues become political, and there in none more so that the Homosexual issue. It becomes a wedge issue and politicians use and abuse both sides in the issue to gain power and position.
On a personal note, to me, one is either saved or they are not. There is a line and you are on the right side of the line, saved, or the wrong side of the line, unsaved. Now some unsaved people look worse than other unsaved people. Some people wear their sin on their sleeves and it is plain and abhorrent. Yet the Word of God says that their righteousness is like filthy rags, all of it falls short of the glory of God. If we can truly look at the unsaved world with equality, meaning, seeing them all as lost, whether the respectable suburbanite, or the murderer behind bars, the prostitute that walks the street and so on, then we are in a good place. Let us always speak the truth in love, in that we cannot go far wrong.......Frank
HI Maryjane,
I understand where you are coming from. My own grandmother came close to accpeting Jesus, then she turned back to Catholicism and her worship of Mary and she died this way. That was on my dads side. On my mums side, two of my uncles, having an unction from the Holy Spirit, pleaded with my other grandmother to surrender her life to Jesus. She rejected them and told them that she was a good person(which she was) and that she never harmed anyone. It was explained to her how that was not enough, but it was rejected, a year later she dropped dead at the age of 60. Both my grandmothers rejected Jesus, its sad but its true.
Your mother knows where you are coming from. You have shared the Truth with her, of that I have no doubt, so now the case becomes, how should you be with her. I say that you should love her and pray for her but not cast your pearls down. If there is to be movement with your mother, then it has to be the work of the Lord. Love her and take any openings that you can get with her. I will be praying for your mother. May we hear one day on this forum the testimony of your mother...........Frank
My Aunt is this way too. I earnestly prayed for her with much yearning that she'd be saved. She is a bitter woman but after sometime had passed God spoke to me and said that He had heard my prayer and that in the end He would save her. I left off praying for her because the matter was settled, I trust the LORD to fulfill His promise. I am saying this to be encouraging, that earnestly praying for ones kin can go a long way against the kingdom of darkness.I say that you should love her and pray for her but not cast your pearls down.
I remember my Pastor prayed earnestly for his children to come back to the LORD. From His own mouth while interpreting a message in tongues, God said that He would bring them in, NOT YOU! I remember the force of those words and how God would do the work and it wouldn't be by the hand of their Dad. A few years later he died and he never saw them come in, but they will.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. God loves your Mother and He knows that you have a desire to save her. God loves it when we apprehend Him and take a hold of Him and we won't let go until we are blessed.
The woman came day after day to that unjust judge so that she could reclaim her property. Her secret was she pressed in and never gave up until she got what she came for. I like that don't you? There is something about pressing in and the determination to obtain what we have come to God for.
Casual prayer won't work, it never does. There is a lot of casual praying. There is no real heart felt faith towards God, it's a prayer that is filled with if ands or buts. But the man of faith ignores those hindrances and pushes beyond that and does not accept NO for an answer.
Do you mean telling them that they are living in sin?We can't give up biblical truth and think that is love, that is not love, not telling them truth.
I really don't believe that we should tell the world they are living in sin, that is the Holy Spirits department. Our job is to tell them the remedy for sin Jesus Christ and the good news of reconciliation. The Holy Spirit will convince the world of sin. For me to stand there and point the finger is not my place, we need to leave that to the Spirit of God. There will be at times when the Spirit may speak through a man concerning another man's sin, but it's the Spirits work to convict hearts. This world is not blind to sin, they know what sin is. But what they don't know is Jesus Christ and the forgiveness that comes to a heart that believes and repents.
I am going to insert this: "He that hath ears to hear let him hear what the Spirit is saying".
Please don't misconstrue what I am saying. This is not a softy softy gospel that I am presenting. The Holy Ghost knows how to bring people in, we speak of Jesus and His love for fallen humanity, if we've got the genuine goods on the inside of us then the holy Ghost will work in hearts that are listening about the love of Jesus Christ for them and be drawn to that love by the conviction power of the Holy Spirit. No fingers are pointed, no one is being condemned, all came to repentance by the Spirits working in them convincing them that they need to be saved from their sins.
More damage is done with these bible thrashers out on the street thinking they are doing a service for God, trying to act like Charles Finney or some other fire and brimstone hell bent preachers.
HOWEVER, in the Church it's a whole different ball game. WE, you and I, we need to be put in our place. We need to be told to stop sinning and we know better, we have been enlightened. We need correction and rebuke.
The more Holy we are the greater the harvest.
Frank, thank you for writing this, it just confirmed what I had written in my previous post. I had read this after I post my last post beneath this one and I was refreshed in reading it. Sometimes I go out on a limb and I think that I am alone in doing so, but here you go and write something that just confirms it. Thank you Jesus. Here is what you wrote:
I doubt it. oh, what am I trying to say? I guess what I am trying to say that it is the Holy Spirit that does the convicting of sin. We are commissioned to share the Gospel and make disciples, to share the good news. And what is the good news? That God so loved the world that He gave His only Son for it? Yes, I think that is it. Do all men already know they are sinners? Yes, according to Scripture they do.
Reading snufalapagus and appolus responses I hear a lot of "I think" "I believe" "I am saying." That is wonderful to have beliefs and experiences however it can not replace scripture. According to Christs own words we are to preach a gospel of repentance and remission of sins.
Luke 24:46-47 (KJV)
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
How are we supposed to preach repentance under your terms? From what I read you agree with Dan Merchant that we (meaning Christians) should repent to the lost. When we preach a gospel of repentance it implies that there is something that people need to repent from, sin. Telling people that God loves them, but never mentioning their need to repent goes against scripture, it might feel good to do that but its wrong.
I agree that there are those that preach repentance out of self-righteousness. That is just as much an error as not preaching repentance at all. The first epistle of John reminds us that we have all sinned, and none should think to highly of himself. Preaching repentance does not mean to exalt yourself, but exalt Christ who has paid the price for us.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
I used to wonder what Paul was talking about in 2 Timothy:
2 Timothy 3:5 (KJV)
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
What Paul is talking about is evident in this movie. It is a godly thing to reach out in love to people, after all God sent His only Son to die for us. There is a denying the power of the cross when we do not preach repentance. Show me in Lord Save Us From Your Followers where repentance is preached. We can tell people that Jesus died for them all day long, but if we leave out their need to come to repentance we have denied the power of the cross. And yes to preach that one must repent means to let the lost know they are lost and are in sin, that they must repent to be saved. All this must be done out of love, not fear, not hate, not self-righteousness, but love.
Last, why do you feel the need to attack Charles Finney?
More damage is done with these bible thrashers out on the street thinking they are doing a service for God, trying to act like Charles Finney or some other fire and brimstone hell bent preachers.
If I see half of the converts Finney saw in my lifetime I will be praising God all the way to glory for blessing my ministry.
Quote.....
" That is just as much an error as not preaching repentance at all. "
Now who ever said that? The leaps that people make are quite astonishing. I myself am a big fan of Finney. He was a man definately called of God, of that I have no doubt. Yet, all of which I refer to is in peoples everyday life, their interactions with their friends and family and co-workers. How is it when anyone speaks of grace and love and mercy, there is always someone jumping up and down on the sidelines shouting "license for sin, license for sin." :) I believe they accused the Apostle Paul of the very same thing. When we look at Calvary, we see the perfect harmony of judgement and mercy. It happens simaltaneously. The problem today is that most are either in the mercy camp or the judgement camp, the Holy Spirit marries them together perfectly. Only by walking in Truth and love, Spirit and Truth, can we move with the same kind of power that made the crowd shout out "what must we do to be saved." Paul was preaching under such power and the crowd were stabbed in the heart. The word is Katanusso. When Jesus was pierced with the spear, the word was nusso. Katanusso is a much more violent word yet this is the word that the Holy Spirit uses to describe the effect of Peters preaching. Its the perfect amalgm. It pierces, violently agitates, penetrates the hardest of hearts. There is a reason why 92% of Christians have never saw any one come to Christ by their personal sharing. There is a reason why the Spiritual state of this country is in a nose-dive. And its not the big bad world, newsflash, the world has alaways been big and bad. No, its when Gods people are not walking in the Spirit, when they become worldy, then darkness descends. Now we know the Scripture well, If my people, who are called by my name, would turn from "their," wicked ways.........." You see, while Christians are satisfied at pointing the finger at the world and all the various groups that make up the bad old world, then nothing will be achieved. But, when they repent of their own wicked worldly ways and get right with God, get revived, get on fire for Him, open up the door that He is knocking on, return to their first love, then you will see the light penetrate the darkness and penetrate the hard hearts of unbelievers, whether homosexual or otherwise........Frank
Appolus,
" That is just as much an error as not preaching repentance at all. " Now who ever said that? The leaps that people make are quite astonishing
I didn't say you said that but this is what is happening in churches all across the country. I'm sorry if I did not make that clear. I didn't reply to this thread to start an argument with anyone, but to express my frustration with what is happening with this movie. I don't know if you have had time to read this post, I think there are some good things we should all look at.
[url=https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=32726&forum=40]95 Thesis
I agree that we must first come to repentance before we can preach it, I thought that was a given. I am not afraid of the big bad world as you like to call it, just concerned about people on their way to hell with a false sense of God's love. That God's mercy is enough and we can live our life anyway we want, this is what the Nicolaitans taught, why you felt the need to dispute that is beyond me.
I never once said that we should just point our finger at the world and tell them their the reason for all our troubles. On the other hand if we don't get our lives right and start preaching repentance as Jesus commanded we are in for a whole lot more trouble as a nation.
Back to the reason for this thread, this movie is dangerous because it promotes the idea that we should just love everyone without the preaching of repentance. Love everyone, absolutely, not showing the lost their need for salvation, absolutely not. Will preaching repentance bring division? Yes. That's why it baffles me as to why Dan Merchant can't figure this out, Christ said division would take place.
One last thing snufalapagus, you said:
Frank, thank you for writing this, it just confirmed what I had written in my previous post. I had read this after I post my last post beneath this one and I was refreshed in reading it. Using other peoples posts to confirm what you believe can lead you places you don't want to go. Use the Word of God instead.
This will be my last post on this thread don't want to turn it into some long argument when I have already said what was on my heart.
HI Fieldlaborer,
There is no argument, you simply made an assertion which reflected on my post and I corrected that. As for the 95 thesis, I have read it and agree with it 100%. I think what snufalapagus was saying was that he had a position, based on Scripture, and was glad to see someone else agree with him. I agree that the fact someone else agrees with you niether makes your position right or wrong, but it may be a wee bit unfair to say that was how he came to believe what he believed...........Frank
edit........98% may be more accurate :)
The whole post was great brother Frank, loved every minute of it.How is it when anyone speaks of grace and love and mercy, there is always someone jumping up and down on the sidelines shouting "license for sin, license for sin." :) I believe they accused the Apostle Paul of the very same thing. When we look at Calvary, we see the perfect harmony of judgment and mercy. It happens simultaneously. Smith Wigglesworth had an experience of what Frank and I are trying to convey, and I don't mean to drag your name into this Frank, it's not like we are teamed up together to go against anyone here. I am passionate that this is the right way, that this is what God intended for His Church to be, to stand and see the salvation of God work in and through people while they deliver a non condemning message of grace to a people whom Jesus Christ has cleansed by His blood. I used to be afraid of Grace and I wrapped my life around legalism. But through cooperation with the holy Ghost He removed that garment and replaced it with His grace. But this is what Wigglesworth said:
Here is a holy man, filled with the Spirit and he didn't even open his mouth. He didn't call anyone a filthy rotten sinner, they KNEW THEY WERE SINNERS.I remember once I was traveling to Cardiff in South Wales. I had been much in prayer on the journey. The carriage was full of people whom I knew to be unsaved, but there was so much talking and joking I could not get in a word for my Master. As the train was nearing the station, I thought I would wash my hands so I should be ready to go straight to the meeting. I went along the corridor, and as I returned to the carriage, a man jumped up and said, “Sir, you convince me of sin,” and fell on his knees there and then. Soon the whole carriage of people were crying out the same way. They said, “Who are you? What are you? You convince us all of sin.” It was a great opportunity that God had given me, and you may be sure that I made the best of it. Many souls were born into the kingdom of God in that railway carriage.
Field Labourer said:
Actually, I do use the word of God, but I also use other means for confirmation. I do understand what your saying and I thank you for the caution. I do have the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and I am looking to His leading.Using other peoples posts to confirm what you believe can lead you places you don't want to go. Use the Word of God instead.
Have you ever prayed for something only to have it confirmed by someone giving you that very thing you have prayed for? I have, and this is how God increases our faith. Lets say your praying for God to supply you with food for your children and your cupboards are bare and you haven't told a living soul about your predicament, you have no money. Lo, and behold you hear a knock at the door and there is a stranger there with a car load of groceries that he felt a feeling that this household needed food. Jonathan Goforth had that same experience and countless others. There is nothing wrong in confirmations. I don't know about you, but that would just boost my faith into the stars.
Matthew 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
The confirmation that they were preaching the truth was that the power of God manifested. If it didn't, then it should be questioned. This is how we know that men today are preaching the truth. If there is no power, deliverance, and people being set free, we can safely assume that that preacher is not preaching the truth. Unless of course you believe that the gifts of the Spirit died out in the first century.
