Below, Isaiah mentions Sabbaths (plural).
Isa 56:4 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
Being a Jew, Isaiah would know that there was more than one Sabbath. There are 3 kinds of Sabbaths. Just curious, do you keep all 3 Sabbaths the way they are meant to be kept from God's Word? One thing I notice about Sabbath Keepers today, is that no one keeps the Sabbath exactly like the Mosaic law said they should be kept. They have a pat answer for this, but the bottom line is that it waters down the commandment. In fact, the way that many keep the Sabbath today, does not resemble in the least, how the Mosaic law said it should be kept.
But if I was going to keep the Sabbath, I would think that it should be kept just like it was outlined in the Old Testament. And I wouldn't just pick the weekly Sabbath to keep, but I would keep the other 2 also.
You can’t go and cut them in half and say, “Ok, God instituted this but I am going to observe part of it and I’m going to do it the way our church does it.” You are going to have to do it the way God commanded, don't you think?
And then in Ezekiel 20:12, He says:
Eze 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctifieth them.
Did the Word just say Sabbaths? Plural, right? So there are multiple Sabbath keepings. You should know what the other 2 are.
Exo 31:14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall be called a bad Christian.
Is that what it said??? No, that is not what it said.
What does it say?
Ye shall be put to death!
Some people would like to make the penalty pass away but keep the law. But think hard about this. Do you have a law if you have no penalty? No! You cannot have a law without a penalty. The very nature of law is that it comes with a penalty.
I hear people dividing the law in what is referred to as the “moral commandments” and the “ceremonial commandments”. And they tell us that the ceremonial part has passed away but the moral part is not and they try to make Sabbath Keeping part of the “moral” part which has remained but the penalty part of it we are no longer under. Christ is supposed to have lifted that.
So they say that when Christ died, we are no longer punished for not keeping the Sabbath but we are suppose to keep it, regardless. What????
I submit unto you that when God gave this law and it was perpetual, the penalty was part of it and the penalty cannot pass away unless the law passes away. And the Bible says that the law will never pass away.
Rom 7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
You see, you will die, long before the law ever dies and that goes for the penalty of the law, too.
So, tell me, do you really want to live under the law?
Can you keep the law perfectly. Have you done away with the penalty of the law with your theology?
Have you watered down the law of Sabbath keeping?
Your Sabbath keeping does not impress anyone, because we all know that no one can keep the law and we also know that God did not take away the penalty of the law for those that choose to put themselves under it. You have not kept the Sabbath perfectly and thank God you have not been killed, either. God is merciful.
What is suppose to happen for all of us to get freed from a law that will never die, is that we are to die. If the law won't die, how do we get free from it? We die!! We die in Christ and then are raised in newness of life.
Rom 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
You cannot have it both ways. If you want the law, you get to have the penalty for not keeping the law correctly. You cannot say that the law is still here, but because of Jesus's death on the cross, the penalty of not observing the law correctly has been done away with. How convenient, but that is a gross perversion of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Word of God.
If however, you want Jesus Christ, then you get to have this.
Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Your justification comes only through faith not deeds.
Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Again, not justified by the works of the law, but here it clearly states, the faith of Jesus Christ, believing in Jesus.
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
The law was and is too weak to cleanse and purify your heart and make you presentable to God. Only the blood of Jesus Christ can cleanse you and make you presentable and acceptable to the Father. This is why Jesus is called the REST of God, the Sabbath of God. We can rest from our strivings and our works that we are doing to make ourselves acceptable in His sight.
The Law COULD NOT do it and you cannot do it. Only the SON could and did establish righteousness for us. But it is by faith not deeds.
Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
The law is now fulfilled in us as we walk after the Spirit.
Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Walking after the Spirit is trusting in and relying on Jesus Christ to purify and sanctify and keep us. Relying on Him in order to mortify the flesh. Walking after the Spirit is being in Christ, and after Christ, all your waking hours.
Rom 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (Through the Spirit, means through relationship and faith and trust in Jesus).
Rom 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
I rest my case. We no longer serve in the oldness of the letter.
You may now try to make the case for me that I should observe the Sabbath day. And what exactly is the Sabbath day? The Jewish calendar was lost for a long period and no one really knows what the Sabbath day is, today. Is it Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday. No one knows for sure.
Fortunately, it doesn't matter.
