Is David Wilkerson a whack job prophet or for real?

S
sermonindex

David wilkerson has been so wrong on some of his prophecies. Yet, I keep reading the first chapter of the book he wrote in 1973 called The Vision. The prophetic words in there read almost like today's headline news. I've had "words" given to me in home groups and they were 100% accurate and very powerful. But with these broad prophecies, you really don't know.

How about reading the prophetic word about world troubles here on this web site that is the first chapter of "The Vision". Scroll down a little bit and read it. Please tell me what you think.

Endzone.....David wilkerson has been so wrong on some of his prophecies.

Well this is what God said in Deuteronomy 18:20-22 But any prophet who falsely claims to speak in my name or who speaks in the name of another god must die.“But you may wonder, ‘How will we know whether or not a prophecy is from the Lord?’ If the prophet speaks in the Lord’s name but his prediction does not happen or come true, you will know that the Lord did not give that message. That prophet has spoken without my authority and need not be feared. To me this says he may still be seen by some as a prophet, but not a prophet from God. does this help?

Time will tell if he's a last days prophet or not but one thing I can testify of - for now - he is definitely not a "whack job" - unlike many of the posters on forums :o)

Hope this helps Brother.

I wouldn't want to be standing before the King of the Universe falsely accusing a man like David - That's For Sure!

He's one of the very very very very few men of GOD that I can feel anywhere near comfortable with. I met him privately back in the 80's and if you want to know a man - meet him face to face and privately. hmm! amen.

No problem there, we would never be in the predicament, we will only answer for our sins, not Brother Daves.

M

I don't think anyone here has intended to speak negative about DW, he is a good man of God and has prove it over the years, but to me personally according to the word of God, he is no Prophet.

Brother Endzone, is the blog you posted your own? ... if you don't mind me asking.

I have read David Wilkerson's pulpit series for many years and He is an awesome man of God and his godly family as well. And now on SI I have had the privilege to actually listen to him. I read many years ago that he does not see himself as a prophet. There are some that say he is and some that say he is not. Personally, I dont care. I know he spends hours with God and he hears from God. He is not perfect but O how it would be if we had more godly men like him. No one who walks with God could ever call him a whack job. That person has not listened to him much to say that.

But they called Jesus all sorts of names as well. I am sure David is used to it.

If you really want to know the answer - ask God to show you, read and listen to what David has to say. Then you will know in your heart the Truth.

No sir, I don't have a blog. And, "whack job" is just something I say for shock effect really. I would never refer to this dear brother and man of God as a "whack job". I guess what I really meant is that I think people need to be held accountable for what they say. One thing the church is bad about is ever holding another brother (or church) accountable because we all have sin in our own lives and all we want to hear is "mercy and grace".

I am especially conflicted about Dave Wilkerson. It's quite possible that "The Vision" was indeed from the Lord and some of his other stuff was not. I just don't know what to think. And I agree with the poster who said he isn't really a prophet. But, that doesn't matter because I know the Lord will reveal things to men who seek Him and spend time in prayer.

I think his son came to our church once in Ft. Worth. He was a real funny guy and a comedian.

I am pretty sure David W. has never claimed or even thought of himself as a prophet. Matter of fact, if you read "The Cross and The Switchblade" you will see that God almost had to "push" him into the public eye. Leading, of course, to the founding of Teen Challenge which has touched , who knows, how many 10's of thousands directly and many more indirectly.

As for The Vision, it may be that all God was giving was a "broad" view, not meant to disclose every minute detail, some things not yet clear or able to be understood.

Shouldn't we be asking this question about ourselves rather, with careful inward examining? The truth is, the moment we stop examining ourselves, we begin examining others. David Wilkerson will stand or fall before God, and I believe God is able to keep him from falling.

Have there not been times in all our walks we wish would have never happened? Things we have spoken of during our sermons, or words we have written, or actions we have done, or thoughts which have gone through our heads? Most of these unchristian moments for us, however, are done in secret. There are some things Dave has written I'm sure he wishes he could go back and edit. Such is the problem with writing critical, hard-hitting books: it feels right at the time of publication, but we are all still growing in grace and in the knowledge of God. Time goes on and we grow, but the book freezes you in that maturity level. There are things I said 10 years ago in ministry, for example, which I wouldn't say today, and I am glad they weren't recorded! I am more mature now and much less eager to "prophesy" every and any old thing that enters my heart or mind.

It does not mean a Christian is necessarily false if he/she prophesies a hurricane, for example, on Jan. 3 2009 and that hurricane never arrives: it could simply mean the person lacks the maturity to know his or her proper calling in God. The old saying applies well here in such cases: zeal without wisdom. It is, however, important to realize that God does not reject the Christian wholescale in such cases, and we should not either. The Lord is able to bring a rod of embarassment and shame upon their back without our help. We should instead turn our critical eyes meekly and inwardly upon ourselves and look upon Christ, less we too shame ourseves in some area, knowing how carnally flawed we all are without His grace - failed prophesy or not. Always remember: at any moment God can deservedly expose you in some area of your life only you and Him know about. It is only by His great mercy that He doesn't. Go and do likewise and avoid writing disparaging threads like this on another minister and servant of God, for by the same measure you mete out, such will be returned unto you.

A
AbideinHim

Brother Paul,

You hit the nail right on the head. Praise God that every word that we have spoken that has not been in truth has not been exposed before men. Yet, we are so full of pride that we will judge a whole man's ministry on a few prophecies that did not turn out the way that we thought they should have.

It is shameful to say the least to be critical of a man of God such as David Wilkerson, and disregard all of the fruit that has come forth from his life and ministry.

I need the Lord's mercy, and I praise God that He has not exposed to the world every time I have missed it.

The ones that are quick to point out a man's failures need the Lord's mercy also. We will be judged even as we judge others.

AbideinHim....It is shameful to say the least to be critical of a man of God such as David Wilkerson, and disregard all of the fruit that has come forth from his life and ministry.

I will take it even farther here, you could place the words "Any Christian Brother or Sister" were you have David Wilkerson. There are so many Christian Brothers and Sisters out there that have done the same good, if not more than Brother Wilkerson, that just has not received the media attention. We have to be really careful not to boast or put anyone on a pedestal, there are lots of good Shepherd's out there, but Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd and The Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep, he and only he deserves all the Glory, we deserve this much "0".

P
PaulWest

Dear brother,

God has so lovingly shown me the inner corruption and unmortified pride and carnality that exists within my heart, that I dare not point a finger at anyone else - especially at another man of God who has done more in his lifetime for the Kingdom of Christ than I can ever imagine to do in mine. I need the grace of God each day to keep from falling in the pit. When we lose sight of this inner daily necessity, our eyes drift to other objects. We soon find ourselves latching on to the faults of others, like a man with terminal cancer forgetting his ailment and instead criticising another person for sneezing. How deceived we can become!

If we can learn to not invest our time diagnosing the assumed sicknesses in others, but rather scrutinize the ever-present disease existing within ourselves by the light of the Holy Spirit and in the face of Christ, we will soon see we have enough issues of unmortified falsehood, hypocrisy, phariseeism, self, lust, sloth and pride to last a lifetime to criticise. And the Great Physician will become ever more lovely to behold!

Amen! Brother Paul, spot on! I believe Christ said the same, the wording was just a little different. This will also help us keep, and remain humble. May our Lord's sweet hand square us and hammer us, and strike off all kinds of pride, self-love, world-worship, and infidelity, so that He can make us stones and pillars in His Father's house." ~ Samuel Rutherford (1600-1661)

I cannot understand someone calling DW the name he was called in the title of this thread. If you have spent anytime at all watching his preaching , right here on SI, and get an idea of his heart for God, and the desire he has for holiness and care for the weak and the body???

Always right? I don't know...but , for example, when his vision came in the early 70s, I think...he prophesied that x-rated movies would be transmitted right into our living rooms. I thought this idea ludicrous; impossible. [These were the days before HBO and SHOWTIME existed; with ultra-high standards in the FCC that prohibited even low cut dresses on TV..]

Needless to say; this impossibility came to pass..in spades.

Hannah house, and his Church's involvement in providing for the widow, and the orphan....and co-workers like Carter Conlin... who warn, protect, while feeding the flock of God..

Not perfect, but a Paul pointed out....we all are in this boat. Most of his prophetic utterances have ministered to me...and he is a valid minister of the gospel that is a good example for thousands of American churches.

I would warn against such a cavalier attitude and casual remarks against such a one...it shows a lack of understanding.

To others - Brother Endzone explained himself at the end of page 1 but no one seems to have read it.

He said:

But since I started this on the Japan Disaster thread by posting just a small excerpt from The Vision - David's been blasted ever since - on -

https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=37938&forum=48&start=10&19

so now you're going to turn on Endzone for just ONE word in his title?

Let's all get real here. Read your comments on the link above and on page 1 of this thread.

I can feel the 'difference' in Endzone's questions and find no fault in them - but I did feel true distain in the others posts on that Japan thread and this one - and now suddenly a switch seems hypocritical, to go after someone who's title isn't found to use a perfect choice of words, though he admitted that?

Indeed, Indeed - let's get real and stop covering our own words from just a day ago - shall we?

M
MrBillPro

Endzone...I would never refer to this dear brother and man of God as a "whack job".

So did he or didn't he? this is the question, if we write something, and someone reads it, hasn't it been referred to?
I always think that if you write something the right way, the feelings take care of themselves.

M
ManofGod0000

What's really important about the question to this thread is that if he is God will take care of him, but if he is not, he will continue to bring forth very iencourageing sermons and words of promise and health to the lives of God's people, and all others that seek for a word of true life from God

I don't think David claims to be a prophet but rather a watchman.

Another thing to keep in mind God does not reveal all things to His prophets. Take this from Elisha

2Ki 4:27 And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.

Just something to add to the mix.

Unfortunately MrBillPro - my last post was mainly directed to you.

You're now eating your own words, whether you can see that or not.

Yes, your comments regarding David from the Japan thread on have bothered me. That's what I mean about "let's get real".

If we can talk behind David's back - we should be able to speak plainly to one another here - in truth!

You've set yourself up as quite the judge on the Japan thread, the prophet thread and now this one and then go after Endzone for Just his one mistake of his choice of words for a title.

I don't feel comfortable with your posts and the spirit of them. That's honesty on my part, in regards to how David W. has been presented on these two threads, mainly.

I can't find the verse right now, but when Samuel was recognised as a Prophet to Israel - the Word of The LORD was scarse in those days and somewhere (?) we see that Samuel had something akin to a "school of the prophets" --- Not meaning that anyone could go there to learn to 'be' a prophet, not ordained as one by GOD - but for those who Samuel, through GOD, saw were ordained as true prophets - they could sit under Samuel to perfect their calling. I do believe in that training that GOD will do in all the Ephesians 4 five-fold ministries. Time teaches all of us a great deal - we should expect or hope!

Yes, David wrote his book 38 years ago - and I don't know about you - but I believe most of us who have been saved anywhere near as long - have GROWN quite a bit over that many years. Prayerfully, noticably more each year.

David's never taught False Doctrine and to me - that's keeping the main thing, the main thing and my bottomline of testing a man.

David Wilkerson has been so wrong on some of his prophecies.
"A Whack Job", eh?

The Urban Dictionary defines this as: A complete loon-ball. A crazy person. Nut-Job.
He's nuts. A complete and total whack job.

That is the actual title to this thread.

David Wilkerson a highly respected man of God who has done more for the Kingdom of God in New York City than probably any man of his generation and he is being lowered to this level, only because a few of his prophecies haven't come to pass.

Did you know the Prophets of the Old Testament had to endure such ridicule too? There was a lot of prophecies that concerned Christ and they had spoken of Him thousands of years before His arrival in Bethlehem. Even Christ and His messengers would be mocked, "Where is the promise of His coming?".

When a man of God receives a message from God, sometimes that message might be far off into the future but he feels the magnitude of that message and within himself he senses that it could be very soon, so they blurt out what they feel as if it was very near. This is what I believe Brother Wilkerson's mistake is. If he didn't attach the nearness of the message or sets dates, he would be all right.

I would be careful in saying anything more against this man. If he is not of God, than so be it. But if he is, the next utterance you speak may not come to pass just to show you that you shouldn't be touching another man's servant.

I recommend that you apologize to everyone on this thread and repent before God for your serious error in attacking a fellow workman by calling him a Whack Job publicly.

I hesitate to do this because ANY and I mean ANY fraction of His Body, as in "disputes", drain whatever strength I have because I'm not well at all but I just feel I need to quote MrBillPro again --- from the Japan thread -

quote: "(I take this to mean that since we have the Words of God Himself through His mortal Son, there is simply no need for further prophecy. What has been needed to be taught has been taught by Jesus, the Son of Man as well as the Son of God. There is simply no other need for future prophets.)"

Any disputes with ANYONE truthfully, eats away at my time on earth - but sometimes, somethings, are worth giving your life for and maybe we All are coming to that point in "these days" to see that, in one way or another, we pray.

Edit: your post wasn't there when I hit reply MrBillPro, so to answer your request of how I really feel about your posts --- I already did in my last posts. I've stated my feelings plainly and fully.

Second Edit: You've added more since your initial post MBP.
Yes, I am quite critical of anyone who writes books or leads THOUSANDS in any "ministry" ... I am very serious about what type lifestyles these "leaders" of His people live and what they teach - I fully admit to that.

M
MrBillPro

Jesus-is-GOD on 2011/3/13 10:42:42 I hesitate to do this because ANY and I mean ANY fraction of His Body, as in "disputes", drain whatever strength I have because I'm not well at all but I just feel I need to quote MrBillPro again --- from the Japan thread - quote:

And this is just my opinion, and I am sticking to it. And if you opinion differs I will respect it.

M
MrBillPro

This is also my opinion:
Jesus was not a prophet. That is what Muslim's want us to believe.

God cannot be considered a prophet of Himself, and Jesus was spiritually God. Prophet's convey what God tells them to convey, when Jesus spoke as God, God was conveying to the people directly.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him, and have seen him."
Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you such a long time, and do you not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, 'Show us the Father?' Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very works' sake. Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father. Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it.

MBP - it just adds light to why you'd have problems with even a True prophet then - if one should come along.

But you are definitely entitled to think that there are no more prophets today --- but one must realize - that that may add to your distain of David's words from the past and may even affect your opinions of his more recent messages.

M
MrBillPro

I just have to go with God on Wilkerson:
Deuteronomy 18:20-22 But any prophet who falsely claims to speak in my name or who speaks in the name of another god must die.“But you may wonder, ‘How will we know whether or not a prophecy is from the Lord?’ If the prophet speaks in the Lord’s name but his prediction does not happen or come true, you will know that the Lord did not give that message. That prophet has spoken without my authority and need not be feared.

M
MrBillPro

For the record here since some are missing my posts on Wilkerson as a Pastor, he is an awesome man of God, and I am sure when he gets to Heaven, he will justly receive his reward. You will have my full attention when any modern day Prophet can fulfill this scripture below, until then I will go with what God say's.
