The Passing of David Wilkerson

F
flameoffire

David Wilkerson, founder of World Challenge Ministries, has been killed in a car accident in Texas. Charisma News spoke with Dr. Wayde Goodall, founder of WorldWide Family, who verified the news. Goodall was with Wilkerson’s son, Gary, when he was informed of the fatal accident. “Today, the Kingdom of God has lost a giant of the faith. His life touched millions,” says George O. Wood, general superintendant of the Assemblies of God. “The Assemblies of God enjoyed a life-long relationship with David Wilkerson. He was godly, humble and represented everything that is best in a spiritual leader. Our heartfelt sympathy and prayer is extended to his wife, Gwen, and family.”

I am speechless at the moment. It is hard to imagine a world without David Wilkerson - the LORD has used him to encourage me more times than I can count.

One of the men of our times qualified to be called a father of the Faith. He left true fruit behind on earth, and am sure inherited much before the Lord.

That was a shock. Never expected his passing that way, but glad it was fast. I feel grieved for his wife, who is probably suffering in more ways than one.

I am in tears as I read this. Just yesterday, I was praying for him and was struck with the thought that his passing would be a loss to the worldwide Body of Christ.

We are praying for Gwen and their family.

An actual prophet leaves the earth. God bless his family. It really is like losing a brother. In the often mad world of Christendom, his was a voice that stood above the din. He walked with God, he heard His voice and he loved His presence and he spoke without fear or favor. Oh, but one can only imagine the glory he now dwells in forever. This man had a target on his back as did his family and he stood faithfully through all of it , always bringing us back to the cross and reminding us of the overcoming Christ...........brother Frank

Speechless with deep sorrow. Praying for his wonderful family and grace in abundance for them. And God help us all.

Heaven is celebrating his homecoming.

hear the Father whisper, “I am with you. I cannot tell you why right now, but
one day it will all make sense. You will see it was all part of my plan. It was
no accident. It was no failure on your part. Hold fast. Let me embrace you in
your hour of pain.”

Did the Father in heaven whisphered in his ears the above wrods yesterday? He must be!

So sad to miss this man of God, this father, brother...
He will be in the arms of Jesus now.

I haven't been able to post to this thread when it was posted because it just didn't seem true to me at first.
I just can't understand what happened. It's not the way that I would have expected a man of his calibar to go and to leave a wife in the ICU on top of it. It's just all very hard to make sense of any of it. Maybe it's just part of the denial stage - because he's been around since we first became part of the Church, but I feel it goes deeper than that. I just felt it was 'un-timely' for some reason. That too could be part of the denial phase - but nevertheless - it's just not what I expected. I suppose shock is the only word to describe what I'm still feeling, even after these hours of trying to read anything I can about it, to make some sense out of it all. Just shocked beyond words is the only way I can describe how I feel and totally confused by it all. Just praying for Gwen & family and that's about all that I can do. Anything more just freezes up the mind. I just don't understand why he would go that way? Maybe Carter Conlon can make some sense out of this all. I surely can't.

Oh God, thank You for such a man of integrity and example!

Brother David was one of my inspiration in night outreach that I have for street kids that are addicted in sniffing solvent here in the Philippines.

Haven't posted on Sermon Index in years, but as soon as I heard that David Wilkerson has died, this was the first place I went to.

His sermons were always thought provoking and challenging, and although it is definitely sad news, his life and work will continue to change lives here on SI and he is now with the Lord which is far better.

I think it is a time to reflection and just silence.

We that loved and honored David Wilkerson are saddened by this shocking news of his departure to glory.

Praise God for this man of God. He lived what he preached. I know that God used him to keep me in balance over the last 35 years.

The Body of Christ was made so much richer because this man declared the truth in love. He will be greatly missed by all that were touched through his writings and books.

David Wilkerson has been one of the most influential Christian Pastors in my life.

It was his books and sermons that brought a fire to my spiritual walk with the Lord.

I remember going to NYC in 1988 when Times Square church was one year old how on fire that church was for the Lord.

He will be missed but we all will die someday and go with the Lord and await the resurrection. Another saint to look forward to spending eternity with. What a glorious day that will be!

Thank God for pastors and preachers like David Wilkerson. May God raise up more men who have a fire and a love for God like he did.

This is a day of sadness for a prophet of God that God used mightily in this last generation.

I rejoice in the ministry of David Wilkerson, and thank and praise God for his ministry into MY life through his preaching. He was an awesome man of God, and spoke BOLDLY the truth of the Word of God. The world is a lesser place because of the passing of this precious man. I pray for his family, and Times Square Church that the LORD will comfort them in their loss. I pray that the LORD will lift His lambs in His mighty and loving arms and hold them close to His great Heart! I pray that there will be an ARMY of David Wilkersons to take up his mantle and "GO!" into all the world and preach TRUTH! In Jesus mighty and wonderful Name which is above every name! Amen.

Words cannot express the sadness that came to this heart at the news of the passing of David Wilkerson. Yet at the same time, as I remember his life, I rejoice in and take courage in the grace that the Lord poured out through this man. I count it a great privilege to have partaken of the fruit of his ministry in Christ.

In Christ,

Ron

My wife and I are still stunned by this. I had family members and friends call us late last night when they found out the news.

We are continuing in prayer for Gwen, the family and the ministries.

Here is another article about our brother's "promotion:"

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/Religion/post/2011/04/david-wilkerson-times-square-teen-challenge/1

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." - II Timothy 4:7-8

This has been much on my mind and heart since learning of the news last night. I have felt that we "needed him" and his message as we enter these last days. But of course we know that ALL God's ways are perfect. In pondering it all, I am wondering if he will speak louder through his death than he could have through more days granted him on earth....just a thought....

How one man can be a spiritual father to so many is beyond understanding. Bless you David Wilkerson. Though we have never met, you have stood by my side through dark, lonely times offering encouragement and the light of Christ's love and grace. God willing, I will one day hug your neck and kiss your cheek, my spiritual father. Lord, my heart is broken.

Brother Wilkinson was a true man of God.
His Sermons really blessed me.
I'm blessed of God to have a lot of his cd's & dvd's.
I will miss him, and pray that his family will be comforted by God, and the love & Prayers of the Body of Christ.

Praise God for what He has accomplished through David Wilkerson. Praise God for not letting his light die out at the end of his life. It may just be that God took David Wilkerson out before times of great trouble fall upon this world. It makes me think about Enoch...

I can only echo what everyone is saying.David Wilkersons death seems numbing to us all.I watched him on Tv and I always felt Gods grace pouring out from the pulpit. In a peculiar way he made people feel protected I think like a father.Credit is due to Sermonindex which has been a great resource for listening to David Wilkerson. In this sense we will have him til the end.We have lost a great leader,it must be like when one of the Judges died in the old testament.I think he was one of the most loved preachers on sermonindex, staff

quote from other site "
Shortly after reading this announcement I saw that an EF 4 or 5 tornado, 1 1/2 mile wide, hit Tuscalsoosa, AL and then Birmingham with at least 32 dead. Then I read the Army Corps of Engineers wants to blow the Mississippi river levee in southeast MO to save the town of Cairo, IL from flooding.

David Wilkerson was a preacher of repentance, righteousness and judgment. His work is finished, he has warned this nation and the world long enough.

is it now hammer (judgment) time ?

This week, I have been thinking about the life and passing (or "promotion") of Brother David Wilkerson. Today, Times Square Church focused on this:

https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=38805&forum=35&0

It was interesting to me that Brother David passed away in the light of other major events.

On the day of his death, a series of storms ripped through the southeastern United States. I saw an amateur video of the storm taken by a man who was terrified of death. I thought about how God has taken the sting out of death...because men like David Wilkerson face it with an eternal hope (I Corinthians 15:55).

During Friday's royal wedding, Catherine Middleton was wearing a beautiful veil as she walked up to wed her prince. While watching the ceremony, I was thinking of the "mystery revealed" as brother Dave is finally able to take off the veil of humanity and see the face of his Eternal Bridegroom (I Corinthians 13:12).

Today, the Roman cult was preparing to beatify Pope John Paul II in preparation of making him a "saint." I thought about how true believers like David Wilkerson are already saints...and that his death was precious in the sight of God (Psalm 116:15).

I am thankful that I heard an old message by David Wilkerson (entitled HOLY GROUND) while I was young teenager and a newborn believer. That message had the passion for God's holiness and a hunger to know more of Jesus that I had felt was missing from most preachers that I had heard. Shortly after I heard it, I read the book, "HUNGRY FOR MORE OF JESUS." I think that this was a fraternal bond that we shared with men like Dave Wilkerson, Leonard Ravenhill, A.W.Tozer, and others.

However, I am praying that God will raise up many more men like these. Brother Ravenhill wrote and preached several times about "Where are the Elijahs of God?" In this day and age, they are greatly needed.

At the beginning of HOLY GROUND (and before he began his message to YWAMers), Brother David spoke about Brother Leonard Ravenhill. He said that he had told all of his sons and all of his daughters to get to know Brother Ravenhill -- because he was "one of the last." But, after this, Brother Wilkerson reminded the young people, "But God always has His special people in every generation."

We need more of these people.

We need more Leonard Ravenhills, David Wilkersons, Charles Spurgeons, Keith Greens, and, of course, John the Baptists. We need men who are moved with the compassion of God and see this world as "sheep having no Shepherd." We need men who are so burdened for the honor of God that they would proclaim and convey, in love, a hunger for God that is so deep that the world would take note.

I was moved by God as a teenager. I was quite agnostic, and had seen quite a few "fakes" in the Church that nearly cemented my agnosticism. I saw selfish, self-serving preachers who didn't even realize how prideful they were. I saw false prophets who uttered nonsense "in the name of Jesus" (and didn't even realize that they were LYING for God). However, I also saw some examples of individuals who were...different. I remember thinking of one such man and thinking, "I don't know if there is a God, but if there is, that man knows him."

I pray that God will raise up more men who can prepare the way of the Lord. And how does God raise them up? Those men are struck to the heart by the unction of God's Spirit. They are full of the Holy Spirit and devoid of self. They are so impassioned for the honor of God that they will give up their lives for His honor and so that others might know Him as we want to.

David Wilkerson was one such man. He saw a void in the lives of drug addicts, the destitute, and the hurting. He saw a wayward church that had been going through sectarian and denominational motions. Yet, Brother David sacrificed of himself to confront those needs.

May God raise up others.
