In pursuit of the wonderful thread “Great Quotes”, I thought of starting this thread “Great Bibleverses”. Encourage and edify your brothers and sisters in the Lord with the words of God that are precious to you. Feel free (and don’t be shy) to also explain the background of them. How have they influenced your life? In what situation did you receive this verse from God? Was it a word of encouragement, comfort, warning etc? There’s nothing so awesome than to receive a personal word of God in a specific situation. And that’s what Gods word is all about. The Bible isn’t a great book of literature. It doesn’t merely contain “great wisdoms”. If that where to be the Bible, I would have thrown it out of the window after the first time I read it, or kept it on my shelf as a referencebook. No, it’s a LIVING word through which God Himself communicates with us each single day!“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Col 3:16)I find it great joy to receive Bibleverses from friends. Although the words of famous men of God are a blessing and the tender words of friends mean a lot to me, I cannot be more blessed than by personal words of my Lord and Savior. They always hit the right spot. They are always correct. They never return void and always draw a response. “The words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life” (John 6:63). The words of Christ are lifechanging and even lifegiving! We need His words more than ever, for it is our foundation. Hosea makes the situation in which we live very clear: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). God isn’t so much talking about headknowledge (although even that is lacking nowadays), but heartknowledge. Somehow I really have a burden for this thread. I recognize a huge need for the words of God in my own life. I can’t put trust in my feelings and experiences. I must trust in the words of God. I pray that the verses being posted here, will be used by God to touch the lives of many people.
Great Bibleverses
"In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts have delighted my soul"Psalm 94:19 (Darby)Some time ago, I had a situation in which my mind got really mixed up. Maybe this seems to be more like "A Bold and the Beautiful"-scenario, but I was really confused by it. I liked a girl, but a girlfriend of that girl liked me. I didn't know what I had to do and prayed much about it. Talking about "multitude of thoughts".Finally, God made clear that my "love" for that girl was impulsive and not from Him. I gave it up...but this verse has been a great comfort and encouragement by God to me. It brought me back to my real first and only Love: Jesus Christ!
"Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God"Romans 10:17Moody asked God for more faith in his life, so that he could have more passion for lost souls and a love for God, but nothing happened. He didn't give up however. He prayed unceasingly, but still nothing happened. Then he opened his Bible and read these verses. He never prayed for more faith again ;-) I see myself slipping away so fast. I get caught up in old habits and loose sight of Christ. I need faith to move mountains. And God has shown us where to get it. Though it is a process, it is the key!
"For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her"Zechariah 2:5This is how the Lord wants to be in our lives. Glory in our midst, through the indwelling of the Holy Ghost, and a wall of fire round about, to protect us from our enemies.
"And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God"Joel 2:13" The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise"Psalm 51:17God will not despise a broken and a contrite heart. But my problem is this: how do I "get" (knowing that it isn't some sort of mystic formula) it?A saddening conclusion of a sober fact in my life:"It seems to be easier to have all the bones in my body broken, than to have a broken heart"What to do? I don't know. I only know I must walk in the Light and I'll pray the words of which the signature of Ed (Gideon) always reminds me: "Oh Lord, bend me! Bend me!" I need to have it, to see the sinfulness of my sin, to weep over my sin. Not a selfish grieve, but a holy grieve. Not a grieve which will leave me as I am in my sin, but a grieve which will drag me out of Sodom (by God) and will bring me on my knees before the throne of God in Sion.
"I am rejoicing over you, but I want you not only to be wise in what is good, but also innocent to what is evil."Romans 16:19God can't be more realistic! Do you recognize this, fellow soldier of Christ?! You are wise to what is good...you desire nothing more and nothing less than to be totally sold out to Jesus Christ? ......and still you aren't innocent to what is evil? What to think of backbiting, pornography, envy - to name a few? There are two steps to be made:1. Be wise to what is good (set your heart on things above - Col 3:3)2. Be innocent to what is evilAnd yes, you're right. You need more than a method. You need a Man: Jesus Christ.Consider these following verses and though I know by experience that it's a fight in which we all may fail at times (simply because we can't do it in our own strength), believe the truth and apply it to your life. He is there for you. I encourage you!"He raised Him (Christ) from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet..." (Ephesians 1:20-22)"[and God] raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus..." (Ephesians 2:6)Yep, my friends...Jesus is seated above all principality and power and might and dominion. He has all things under His feet. And in the second verse God tells us that we are seated in the heavenly places as well, in Christ. Do you know what that means? That means that in Christ we are seated far above all principality and power and might and dominion...and...and...you get it?Hallelujah. Praise the Lord that Jesus Christ is alive. He's not a Renovator, but a Reviver! He's not trying to fix you and me. He gives us a whole new life.If you want to read something more about this marvellous truth I recommend to read this article by Chip Brogden: Victory is a ManShalom in Christ!Paul

"Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand." [b]Matthew 12:25
I'm that kingdom. And what about you? The kingdom that desperately needs a revival, isn't the United Kingdom, it's not the USA and it's not The Kingdom of the Netherlands...it's [b]this
We desperately need:
1. Jesus Christ
2. each other
And therefore we desperately need a restoration of authencity, honesty and reality in our churches and among believers.
I definitely need it guys!
Paul
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
-Isaiah 57:15
"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life:"[b]John 11:25
Early in my conversion to Christ this verse was such a powerfull and special influence upon me. In this utterance is seen His exceeding and peculiar greatness amongst all professors of truth and religon the world has ever known. In it is a sweet harmony with these truths elsewhere expressed:
Never man spake like this man!
All that ever came before Him were thieves and robbers.
John 13:1
Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, [b]having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
There is no Love like the Love of the LORD!
John 15:12
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Mark 12:31
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
The Lord is not satisfied to Love you Only by Himself. [b]He also commands the Whole World to love you as well!!!
What a Wonderful LORD!!!
Who wouldn't love Him back?
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;"[b]Romans 1:18
I once had a special privilege of leading a man to Christ who I had before thought far beyond reaching. I met him one day, sitting on a bench, as a younger man and I were giving out things around Christmas time. His speech seemed much like he'd 'heard all that before' and knew 'all about the church'.
Time passed and I saw him now and again and always thought he was unreachable. Then one day, not long before I moved away from there, I saw him sitting on some steps. He was homeless and looked in bad shape. This time I stopped and took some time to speak with him; I was able to help him by holding some things for him and by that he got my address. I did not expect much more of it.
Then soon after he came to my door one morning. He asked to come in and wanted to talk so I let him in. He didn't have that same manner of speech that I heard at first, instead he was asking me why things were going like they were for him. I shared this verse with him, Romans 1:18.
After a short while of explaining this, he agreed. He soon began crying out for mercy to Jesus. I recall him saying some peculiar things too, like 'I see Jesus on the cross' and that an angel had led him there as he did not even know how to get there. When I questioned him about this afterward he did not seem to remember it. But I believe he'd had a change of heart and had come to the Savior.
All glory be to God through His word and Spirit.
"Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered." [b]Luke 11:52

"For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin---because anyone who has died has been freed from sin." Romans 6:6,7
"Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ." Galatians 1:10

"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." Ephesians 4:22

Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. Daniel 10:8

"Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law." [b]Psalm 119:18
It was some time ago that I felt led to this Psalm. I remember once, standing at a corner and praying through this Psalm and how this verse stood out to me as I prayed.
Not too long after this I heard [i]Hell's Best Kept Secret

GREAT idea Paul. Good to see you still on here! A LOT of GREAT verses to pierce my heart and encourage my spirit from everyone! How I LONG to have the Word of God written more and more on my heart!
Anyone faced with a life decision? Anyone seeking for the wisdom of God? Anyone wondering how to discern God's voice from all others? Here is a verse a brother at church encouraged me with this summer.
"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.
But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hyprocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."

"For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh." [b]Philippians 3:3
Bothers and sisters, I was meditating upon the things of God a while ago and thought about this. I thought, the moment our souls take hold of any confidence in self, we're undone; we've then lost all our footing and, if not then, we'll soon be... on our backs.
Well, maybe that is right or maybe not. But what is there in a crucified man to inspire confidence? And yet is that not the divine sentence of God upon all our works, our power, our goodness, our self? That it all merits death, even the death of the cross?
Help me, help us Lord, to rely upon You more.
"Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?" [b]Malachi 2:17
When we say that those who profess faith in Christ are saved, no matter how they live, we weary the Lord. When we say that since God is love, He cannot judge us, we weary Him.
"The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity." [b]Psalm 94:11

"Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress." [b]Psalm 17:3
I talked with a man last night that claimed the spirit life of a person only exists when they are awake. I qouted this verse to him and told him too about how, for instance, God warned Joseph, the husband of Mary, in dreams.
Anyway, I remember reading this verse and thinking how it seemed to correspond to things that I've experienced at night, in sleep, and awaking from it. And I wonder if God has not visited me in the night, and tried me as well. If so, I do not think I have done so well as David.
"Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart." [b]Psalm 97:11
I had a conversation with a co-worker recently and she related how she appreciated that I'd given her time to consider what we were talking about. She mentioned how sometimes people can overwhelm you when they talk about spiritual things. I knew what she meant - becuase I've done it myself.
Beloved, how does the sun make it's entrance upon the day? Is it not silently, by stages? First there is a breaking of the dawn and then a warm glow that slowly brightens untill the whole sky is filled with light. Should it be any different with the soul? And let us not be frustrated if those who are asleep do not respond at first to the light of the Gospel,

[b]Isaiah 43:18-21
This scripture has thrown me upside down. 8-)
"There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength." [b]Psalm 33:16
The other day I was looking for verses which made refrence to God creating by His Word after a conversation I had with a [i]Jehovah's Witness
Of course God alone is our salvation and strength and in thinking of a verse which answers to this I found this portion of Scripture which says
"For the Lord is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king. Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst,
I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people."
Our Messiah! This phrase here [i]laid help on
I thought to mention too that in this same passage of Psalm 89 is a verse which refutes the faulty notion the [i]Jehovah's Witnesses[i]first created
No, this is plainly opposed here where we read of the Messiah, Who was [b]then
"Also [b]I will[b]higher than the kings of the earth

One, His being firstborn was yet [i]future tense

Isaiah 54:13
"And all thy children shall be taught by the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children".
In 1990, just after my second child was born, the Lord gave me this promising word. And now, 16 years later, I have three children and they are all saved and have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior! God is so good. He always keeps His promises! Praise be to Him!

I know you know me Jesus. I know you listen to my cry. Father run to me tonight. May the reality and impact of your death and resurrection change us, change me. Please, Savior.

"Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged." [b]Isaiah 51:1
Lord, may it be so for me and for us. Help us to see afresh the terrible pit which you pulled us out of. Cause us to see, by your free grace, our true selves. And may our hearts be thankfull and gratefull for your mercies again. Amen.
"Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God." [b]Psalm 90:1-2

Beloved brothers and sisters, I have seen enough of the strivings and practices of those devoted to other gods to know that there are amongst them also, those that: weep many tears, pray long hours, and whose hearts burn with zeal for thier cause. Yet, what profit is it to them?
What good are our tears unless they be wept before Him that can put them in His bottle, and keep them as a memorial before Him, stored up for the day in which He shall choose to exercise His great and mighty power.
What good then are our prayers unless they be poured out before Him Who has [b]all authority in Heaven and in the Earth
And what good is our zeal unless it burns with everlasting fuel upon the altar of our hearts, before Him Who is a [i][b]Consuming Fire
Seeing then how all that is near to our hearts and dear unto us as our very life, the very hope and future of all that we shall ever be, seeing how this is laid upon the Rock of Christ, no marvel then that He should be called [i][b]Precious
How precious is He.
How precious, is He.
I love this passage, specially the last 2 verses SO GOOD!
Phil 2:5-11
5Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
10so that at the name of Jesus every knee wil bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Hab 3:2 O LORD,I have heard thy speech, and was afraid:O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years,in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

Hab 3:4 And his brightness was as the light;he had horns coming out of his hand:and there was the hiding of his power.
Hab 3:5 Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.
Hab 3:6 He stood, and measured the earth:he beheld, and drove asunder the nations;and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow:his ways are everlasting.
"Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? Eph 3:14-21 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height--to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Rom 8:31-39 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:
"For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Isaiah 61:1-3 "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."
How great is His love for us!

God, help me to embrace all the potential, and all the possibility, in these words. Fill my heart to the fullest with faith in Thee.

"Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me." [b]Psalm 119:49-50
