Iranian Pastor Sentenced to be Hung

S
sermonindex

Latest reports from Iran indicate the death sentence will still stand against Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani. The Iranian Supreme Court referred the case back to the lower court for reexamination. Pastor Youcef's sentence could be over turned if he will recant his faith in Christ and return to Islam. Something that Brother Youcef said he will not do.

He has written letters from prison where he has encouraged the Iranian believers to stand firm in Christ. His last letter encouraged the believers to accept persecution as their destiny in following Jesus.

Brother Youcef is the leader of one of the largest house church network in Iran. He was arrested and charged with apostacy. He is sentenced to be hung. In recent years Iran has not executed anyone for apostacy.

Prior to the Islamic revolution in 1979 there were less than 500 believers in Iran. Now thr church is estimated to be at 100,000 believers. Voice of the Martyrs estimates that 500 to 600 people a day come to Christ. Mainly through the internet. But reports are jesus is revealing himself as the Man in White in dreams and visions are resulting in conversions.

Please keep the Iranian church and Brother Youcef in your prayers. Both the political and religious leaders are regarding the house churches as a threat to Islam in Iran.

Here is a couple of articles about him...

http://aclj.org/iran/judgment-day-will-pastor-youcef-nadarkhani-be-iran%E2%80%99s-next-christian-martyr

...The level of public approval of persecution of Christians in Iran is also apparent, as at least 285 Christians were arrested in 35 different cities in Iran during the first six months of 2011 without reaction. Many of the crimes charged carry death sentences. According to multiple sources, the Iranian regime EXECUTED approximately 312 INDIVIDUALS for various charges in summary executions during 2010, and is on pace to meet or surpass this number for 2011.

It always thrills me to read about the "unreachables" who get to know The Lord

In a sense, it is humiliating because it means that we haven't done our job, He has to show up, do the job Himself and in the process he has kind of left us in our pointless debate regarding -ism, -gy, etc.

Besides, it really makes me want to shout Hallelujah because He actually SAVES in the most remote place we have never thought of preaching His Gospel. It is always challenging to learn of a new conversion and the circumstance how it was brought forth

In closing, i take the chance to sound a bit rude but, i think in the western world we take "freedom" and "liberty" as a prerequisite to live our faith out. It isn't so... Remember what was Paul's pleasure???
- Infirmities
- Reproaches
- Persecution
- Distress

Forgive me but it seems to me that in America and Europe, it is such a big deal to be jailed for Christ or any other religion... we are so quick to quote such and such law on "freedom of faith and religion", we tend to forget that Christianity began with a handful louts and fishers who went from prison to prisons and that some even sung while they were jailed!! I know, the bottom line is i humbly believe, we missed the Holy Ghost... Oh that God send His Holy Fire again...

Please, don't misunderstand me, i didn't mean that we should not pray for his release but instead of just crying and attempting every legal procedure to free him, what about going on our knees and praising God for His faithful witness and eventually pray for him to be free?

Blessings,

I was reading in Revelation 20:4-6:

4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.

6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.

I noticed something...the ones who were resurrected to rule with Jesus a thousand years were those who were beheaded for his sake. And they are called "Blessed." WOW! Made me reconsider a few things about persecution, especially beheading. The point that came to me is that one needs to pray they would endure regardless what happens...

Ever notice this scripture?

Yes, the blood of the martyrs is the seed of church growth...

Why doesn't the president demand his release? Is there any petition that can be signed?

S
sermonindex

I do not know why the President does not demand his release. We are aware that the President is pretty iffy on human rights as particularly regards Christians.

As far as I know no petition drive has been initiated to free this brother. Such a drive might be complicated due to the fact Iran is classified as a 'rogue nation' by other nations in thr west. It's ranking is below that of N. Korea on persecution watch list.

Another question to raise is why the American evangelical church is silent on the persecution of our brothers anf sisters?

Thank you for providing this update; i had been praying for Youcef. I do not believe that Iran has not executed anyone for "apostasy" in recent years, i believe they just havent done it public. People "disappear", most likely. I am very saddened by this. He has two young boys and a wife who need him, not to mention his congregation. Pray for all of them, their financial needs and their safety.

I was studying the letters to the seven churches in the book of Revelation recently and was struck by the following words to the church at Smyrna:

"Do not fear what you are about to suffer" (Rev. 2:10a).

"Be faithful unto death and I will give you the crown of life" (Rev. 2:10c).

In our land where so many hold to the Christian faith casually, we need to perceive the force of Jesus' words. Let us pray for the church in Iran.

A letter from Pastor Nadarkhani, written from Lakan Prison in Rasht, June 2, 2010:

Dear brothers and sisters, Salam

In the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I am continuously seeking grace and mercy to you, that you remember me and those who are bearing efforts for his name in your prayers.

Your loyalty to God is the cause of my strength and encouragement.

For I know well that you will be rewarded; as it’s stated: blessed is the one who has faith, for what has been said to him by God, will be carried out.

As we believe, heaven and earth will fade but his word will still remain.

Dear beloved ones, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of a few verses, although you might know them, So that in everything, you give more effort than the past, both to prove your election, and for the sake of Gospel that is to be preached to the entire world as well.

I know that not all of us are granted to keep this word, but to those who are granted this power and this revelation, I announce the same as Jude, earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints.

We are passing by special and sensitive days. They are days that for an alert and awake believer can be days of spiritual growth and progress. Because for him, more than any other time there is the possibility to compare his faith with the word of God, have God’s promises in mind, and survey his faith.

Therefore he (the true believer) does not need to wonder for the fiery trial that has been set on for him as though it were something unusual, but it pleases him to participate in Christ’s suffering.

Because the believer knows he will rejoice in his glory.

Dears, the “ judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?”

Therefore those who are enduring burdens by the will of God, commit their souls to the faithful Creator. Promises that he has given us, are unique and precious. As we’ve heard he has said: “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you”

How can it be possible for a believer to understand these words?

Not only when he is focusing on Jesus Christ with adapting his life according to the life Jesus lived when he was on earth? As it is said ” O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.”

Have we not read and heard: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Many attempt to flee from their spiritual tests, and they have to face those same tests in a more difficult manner, because no one will be victorious by escaping from them, but with patience and humility he will be able to overcome all the tests, and gain victory.

Therefore in the place of Christ’s followers, we must not feel desperate, but we have to pray to God in supplication with more passion to help us with any assistance we may need.

According to what Paul has said: In every temptation, God himself will make a way for us to tolerate it.

O beloved ones, difficulties do not weaken mankind, but they reveal the true human nature.

It will be good for us to occasionally face persecutions and abnormalities, since these abnormalities will persuade us to search our hearts, and to survey ourselves.

So as a result, we conclude that troubles are difficult, but usually good and useful to build us.

Dear brothers and sisters, we must be more careful than any other time.

Because in these days, the hearts and thoughts of many are revealed, so that the faith is tested.

May your treasure be where there is no moth and rust.

I would like to remind you of some verses that we nearly discuss everyday, (Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.) but as long as our human will has priority over God’s will, his will will not be done.

As we have learned from him in Gethsemane, he surrendered his will to the father, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

What we are bearing today, is a difficult but not unbearable situation, because neither he has tested us more than our faith and our endurance, nor does he do as such. And as we have known from before, we must beware not to fail, but to advance in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, And consider these bumps and prisons as opportunities to testify to his name. He said: If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

As a small servant, necessarily in prison to carry out what I must do, I say with faith in the word of God that he will come soon.”However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

Discipline yourself with faith in the word of God. Retain your souls with patience. For there is no man that doeth anything in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly.

May you are granted grace and blessings increasingly in the name of Lord Jesus Christ.

In reading Brother Youcef's letter he knows he will be martyred. As the devil steps up persecution of believers around the world I cannot shake this sense that Asia Bibi and Youcef Nadarkhani may very well give their lives for Jesus. My prayers have been for their release and protection. Yet God does tell us in Rev.13:10-11........He who has an ear let him hear. If anyone is to go into captivity into captivity he will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he will be killed. This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints.........John also tells us that the saints overcame the devil by the blood of the lamb, by the word of ther testimony, and by not loving their lives as unto death (Rev.12:11).

We must face thr fact that these two saints could very well be martyred. But realize these saints will not pass away in defeat but victory. Because they will have overcome the devil by loving Christ more than their own lives.

As one who leads a con call where we pray for the persecuted I am having to get more of the mind of Christ in terms of how we pray for these brothers and sisters who are facing death. Often times our prayers have been like those of Acts 12 for Peter. We are always praying for miraculous deliverance. But it could be that God would have us pray these precious saints continue to be faithful witnesses of Jesus. Even to their persecutors.

We need to ask what do Asia Bibi and Youcef Nadarkhani say to us. What do the martyrs past and present say to us. I have a feeling that Asia Bibi and Youcef Nadarkhani may be the first in what will be many more martyrs to come. May we learn from them and know what it is to willingly give our lives for Jesus.

For the persecuted,

Brother,

What the martyr's speak to me is "Glory to the Lamb!"

this martyr's prayer is on my heart.

And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

- Acts 7:60

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world!

Brother I say Amen. I believe the old Moravians would say as they departed for the mission field on what was sure to be a one way trip, 'May the Lamb that was slain recieve the reward of his sufferings.' We know that Christ died for Iran. For the gospel to go forth may require the death of his saints.

I am not advocating a cult of martyrdom. But Tertullian wrote in 204 A.D. that the blood of the martyr is the seed of the church. Jesus said unless a kernal of wheat falls into the ground and dies it remains only a single seed, but if it dies it produces many seeds.

Right now the Iranian government regards the house church movement as a threat to Islam. It has gotten the attention of the poilitical and religious leaders of Iran. From a temporal perspective the smartest thing is to let this brother go. But from an eternal perspective should this brother be executed I believe there would be an explosion of the gospel in Iran like no one has seen. If the Iranian government is concerned about the impact of the gospel now, let them execute this brother and see what happens. This would bring about the destruction of Islam in Iran. Christ would triumph.

Again let me be clear I am not desiring Youcef's martydom or saying one must be slain for the gospel to advance. But history has shown where the saiints have been slain the church has grown.(Wonder what church growth experts think of that)

At this point I am praying for God's glorious will to be done in Iran and his kingdom to grow. Should that be for our brother to go be with Jesus then watch out. The gospel will advance in Iran like no ones business.

For the cause of Christ,

As I was posting to Travis I was reminded of the fifth seal of Rev.6. As that seal was opened by the Lamb the martyrs cry to Jesus. How long before you judge the earth and avenge our blood. The martyrs are told to wait a little longer until more saints are brought into that kingdom. They too wlli be martyred.

Two things I note here. God is holding back judgement to bring more souls into the kingdom. And those who are martyred now are in some way growing the kingdom. Must flesh this out in word and prayer.

This may need to go on another thread but if any have thoughts on this please share.

One of my intercessory contacts emailed me credible information that Youcef Nadarkhani could be executed Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. I do not know if this Iranian or western time.

Anyone desiring to pray for Brother Youcef and Iran there will be a conference call tonight at 8pm central time. The number for the call is 712-432-0031. Access code is 452614#. This call is open for any who desire to pray for our brother and the believers in Iran.

Moderators please forgive me. I know we are not to promote individual ministries. And I assure you this is not to do so. But this brother needs our prayers. I am letting the saints know there is a venue by which we can cry out for Youcef and Iran. But however you do it please pray for Youcef and Iran.

Brother,

Brother Yousef has been on my heart lately. My prayer is that his testimony would bear much fruit. We are with our brothers and sisters in prison, and being united with them in suffering is such joy. We truly are one body.

And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

- Revelation 5:6

the focal point of all worship is upon the Lamb as it had been slain. The glory.

All day long we are as sheep led to the slaughter. This brings Jesus Glory! Praise Him! He is worthy!

I feel in light of recent events it was necessary to search out this thread and put it out on the board. Youcef Nadarkhani a brother from Iran is sentenced to be executed. Yet some, even in this forum still believe him to be a heretic.

There is a letter written by Youcef that Brandy, Greg's wife, posted several weeks ago. I am writing in response to that post. I have tried to quote Brandy's post but lack the technical no how. Can somebody with more tech savy please go through this thread and find Brandy's posting of Youcef's letter and bring it to the front of this thread. I invite you to prayerfully read this letter. Then tell me this man is not a brother.

For the record I acknowledge this man as a brother in Christ Jesus and count it a blessing and honor to pray for him. It would be my richest pleasure to worship the Lamb with him.

I believe that Jesus will use this brothers forthcoming martyrdom to bring many souls to himself. Jesus said unless a kernal of wheat falls into the ground and dies it remains only a seed. But if it dies it produces many seeds. For the blood of the martyr is the seed of the church. May the Lamb that was slain recieve the reward of his sufferings.

Will somebody please post Youcef's letter. I feell it will bring much edification to the forum.

Its a wonderful letter and it does my heart good to read it. With his emphasis on Gethsemane, it seems that this brother has already discovered the secret to overcoming. He has bowed his knee to the will of God. He already stands in victory because he worships the mighty overcome Jesus, and because He overcame then we can overcome and no power of hell can change that........bro Frank

I have reread this brothers words several times and I tremble that they come from a heart yielded to Christ. Oh that God would give us such words when we are departing to be with Jesus. Reading this brothers letter is like reading one of those letters out of Martyrs Mirror. Whether 500 years ago or today these letters are such an encouragement from those who have walked through the fires of suffering and emerged victorious.

The early church believed that martyrdom was a gift and it was an honor to lay their lives down for Jesus. Truly our brother will have a rich royal welcome waiting for him in heaven. May God richly use Brother Youcef to accomplish his eternal purposes to advance his kingdom purposes. May his testimony now and after he goes to be with Jesus touch and impact many lives for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Yes, beautiful. I'm so thankful in reading his letter. We can pray that he continue to be so bold and unwaivering.
I have to echo what I said in another post:
Christian satellite does broadcast there.. Benny Hinn sparked a lot of curiosity,(only going to prove that our warfare is not against flesh and blood) however, I know firsthand that Iran filters what people can see over the internet. Sermonindex is one of many sites that currently are not accessible, and with so few written gospel resources, what is needed there are living letters. I believe that Pastor Yusef is one of those. We can continue to pray that he be full of the Holy Spirit, living the life of Christ who is the power of God and the wisdom of God, and with Christ being lifted up in himself, men would be drawn to the Truth. I pray it doesn't cost him his life but that God would spare him if it be His will. I would hope if it were me that people would not all panic but pray for me to find favor with those who have authority over me and for me to be so filled with the Holy Spirit that I would be spilling with the life of Christ. Everything that is needed is encapsulated in Him. God has already promised us every promise in Christ Jesus, so let's pray he be strengthened to abide there.

Anen, my friend. Though we praise God for the marvelous technology getting the gospel onto Iran, the evil one cannot shut out the power of a changed life. Indeed Brother Youcef is that living letter written not with ink on stone but by the Spirit of the living God who dwells in his heart. I have had the blessing of praying with converted Iranians who love Jesus. There is a fire and purity in their prayers that ushered in the presence of God.

There are many Iranian believers who are calling out for God to do a marvelous gospel work in their nation. They believe that God will bring Iran to be the first Christian nation in the middle east. Oh that this be true. We partner with them in our prayers that Iran become converted and the moon god be defeated by the cross of Christ.

Satan is trying to silence the gospel witness in Iran. But even though the government prohibit Farsi services in estaished churches and filters the internet the wind of the Holy Spirit cannot be stopped. We still pray that God releases dreams and visions of Jesus. We still pray that God changes lives through hearts yielded to Christ. These glorious testimonies will bring Persians out of darkness into the glorious light of Jesus.

Last night the Holy Spirit showed up on such a marvelous way as we prayed for Brother Youcef. We entered into God's presence and prayed his heart for Iran. For sure the Lamb that was slain will recieve the reward of his sufferings. Iran is the Lamb's reward and inheritance. As we are joint heirs with Jesus, may it be our reward and inheritance.

For the Lamb that was slan.
