Just to update everyone on the progress with the Bible school situation. I will be leaving January 10th to stay at a brothers house for 2 weeks before the Feb 1st school start date. I will be living on campus for the 1st semester of school from feb-june. I have placed the housing deposit and the tuition is due before feb 1st. The closer I come to beginning school to study the Word of God the more excited I am getting! Thank you all for your prayer support and encouragements. I have many tasks to finish up before I leave to Bible School.. here are a few for people to pray about:-SermonIndex Non-Profit Application Process-Backup Solution for SermonIndex media files-Finishing of encoding materials (OJ smith and Art Katz)-Tying up of loose ends and handing over responsibilities to some people.I have had a few people ask about support. If you want to support me financially you can do so here: Donations--for info on the application and prior happenings check this forum:Bible School Application (webmaster)
Bible School update (webmaster)
Hi Greg,What loose ends do you need help with? Also, what ideas do you have for a backup solution? Do you have funds available for this? Let me know.Grace,Doug
What loose ends do you need help with? Also, what ideas do you have for a backup solution? Do you have funds available for this? Let me know.Hi Brother, As for the backup solution I have been downloading the entire site to an external harddrive 80gb. And also onto another external hard drive which I will be mailing to a brother in Florida before I leave. Brother Jason in florida will be restoring many of the wav audio sermon files and helping get better quality for many of the recordings. And it will be great for him to have an entire backup of the 63gigs of SI materials. I am hoping to have a 2nd media server with a copy of all the mp3 files as a better backup solution that could be switched in 1 minute if one server went down. But I am waiting for more support to make that happen. I think for the interm to have a backup solution locally is quite sufficient but quite soon down the road it would be great to have a second server up and going. Another idea is to host the materials in a more stable atmosphere such as the gospelcom server cluster, they are hosting my physical site for free at this point but it would be nice to have the media there also. They do tape backups and have good security on their system and also its all run by chrisitans. I am looking into the pricing for this but it would be alot more expensive then the 1 server I am running now. But it might be worth while quite close down the road just for peace of mind to ensure SermonIndex still delivers the sermons available. I would appreciate prayers towards this and if anyone feels led to send in more support on a monthly basis they can do so also.As for bible school if God lays it on anyone's heart to help fund it is definetly needed. I might have to try and get a vechile down there and there might be an open door to go to a different extension campus in england or israel. I just want to be open to what God wants for me in this next two years. The establishment of the Non-Profit for SermonIndex will definetly help in the raising of support for this ministry. Thanks for your concern brother I would love to hear your ideas also towards backup solutions and what I am thinking.
I will be leaving January 10th to stay at a brothers house for 2 weeks before the Feb 1st school start date. There are a few more days for me left in Toronto, Canada before I leave for Calfornia. I would ask for prayer for all the last-minute preparations that are needed and also last chances for me to meet people and friends. Its really amazing how the Lord has gotten so many things working all together like this.. I have felt the last month has been divinely led in so many ways. I will be applying for the student visa at the airport so please pray that goes smoothly. Many of my goals have been accomplished that I wanted to finish before I left, praise be to God. Just to let people know again I will still be actively updating and monitoring SermonIndex when I am in California. At times I will not be as involved in promoting SermonIndex so I would ask if the Lord lays it on your heart and if you have been blessed by this ministry to tell others about it through these various means: Getting Involved with SermonIndexAny questions are welcome. Thanks all for the interest and support in what God is doing in my life.. I am humbled to be able to study Gods word more and spend and be spent in that precious work for the next 2 years. I pray I can give as much as I take in.
I pray I can give as much as I take in.And I pray we can give back as much as you have given all of us brother. Dear saints, DO pray for our fearless leader as he travels out to the land of horrible sports teams and really smog congested air quality. I know I am asking for it (our sports teams around here all left to go play chess it seems, so I ought not to talk)...All kidding aside. Do pray, and give what we are led, Greg has put so much into all that we see and hear, a great sacrifice that I am sure he bears more than willingly, but he has poured out much more than any of us will ever know, now we can help give of ourselves in whatever ways we can and prayer is certainly what has under girded all this magnificent effort. Not only for this site but for our brother personally. There will be a need for some transportation while he is here for next couple of years and just the day to day things that will be certainly more stretched in this situation.Praise God that He is bringing a dear friend so close to my own backyard..I am so jazzed about this for him, what an opportunity!
Praise God that He is bringing a dear friend so close to my own backyard..I am so jazzed about this for him, what an opportunity!Ahh I am looking forward to meeting you brother what a blessing you have been in my life and such an intergal part of this ministry. Yes I will God willing need some transportation ie car while I am in california and there are other expenses to living there for the next 2 years. I know the Lord will provide. I am leaving for California in 2 days!! I am very stoked about this..! :-D
I am leaving for California in 2 days!!I am leaving on the plane early tommorow morning for LA. I would ask that people pray for my safety and that I get my student visa with no hassles at all. Thanks and God Bless.
Praise God brother!Been much in my thoughts and prayers and in case we miss you in the morning, have a good flight and let us know when you get settled in.
God speed Greg.
Definitely praying! Especially when I was awaken at 3:00 in the morning by the craziest thunder and lighting storm I've ever experienced in California. Still raining today and I heard the rain fall has been more severe in LA, so I definitely prayed that you got in safely. Actually... by now you would have arrived in LAX.Sounds like you have quite a few options open to you in the next 2 years and I trust that God will lead you and guide you in His perfect will. See ya real soon! :-)
I was awaken at 3:00 in the morning Well I am here in California save and alive. Yea 3:00pst was when I woke up to leave for California. Man I need sleep.. :-P Thanks for all the prayers the customs took so a short time it was amazing.. I was rushed through with no problems.
Welcome brother! So glad to hear you got in O.K. and through O.K...It's raining up here pretty good as well.Praise God, a time of new beginnings!
It's raining up here pretty good as well.Yea when I came out last time the ground was parched and dry but now when I came it was all green and flourishing. I believe the same will be happening spiritually that God is going to pour our rain on the dry ground! Thats my prayer.
Here are a few prayer items for this next little while before I begin bible school:-DMV driving test for california lisence this friday 14th-Mexico Mission trip (one day) saturday 15th (protection and ease of passage over and back through the borders).-Getting a credit card and cellphone (pray that I am approved credit wise for this).-Getting a vechile .. phoning insurance companies.Thank you for your attention and prayers in regards to these items. I am very blessed to have so many brothers and sisters in the Lord that are upholding me and caring for me as I seek to do our fathers will. I will try and get up alot of pictures from the mexico mission trip! I am very excited that the Lord is allowing me to go there.
If Greg's pictures don't turn out, he can post mine up instead - [laughs] just kidding!God is definitely faithful to provide when we obey His instructions. I am praying that God will make His will clear to you. As we've been reading in the bible plan, move where God moves, and stop where God stops. "Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glorious presence of the LORD filled it... Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle and moved, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it. But if the cloud stayed, they would stay until it moved again." (Exodus 40:34, 36)"And the LORD replied, 'I will personally go with you, Moses. I will give you rest - everything will be fine for you.' Then Moses said, 'If you don't go with us personally, don't let us move a step from this place." (Exodus 33:14-15)
Welcome to California Greg,Looking forward to pictures from the mission trip. Will continue to pray for the plans the Lord has for your life.God is definitely faithful to provide when we obey His instructions. I am praying that God will make His will clear to you. As we've been reading in the bible plan, move where God moves, and stop where God stops. I like this Sister Yodi. My pastor explains it like checkers. God moves and then we move. You see the pattern clearly in Hebrews 11. The problem I struggle with is that I can move one time and then I have to wait. Learning to wait on God is a struggle that the Lord is dealing with me on.Ed
Greg, I don't think I could put it better than the Apostle:"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you..." (2 Corinthians 13:14)
Greg, I don't think I could put it better than the Apostle: "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you..." (2 Corinthians 13:14)Amen! Have a blessed time brother!
I like this Sister Yodi. My pastor explains it like checkers. God moves and then we move.[laughs] Sweet! I've told Greg that same exact thing before! Something along the lines of, "I'm just God's chess piece! He can move me wherever He wants to." That's awesome! I guess great minds just think alike or something. [laughs] So kidding! Like I have a great mind! Hope Greg passes his written test at the DMV. That's happening, I believe, in about... 20 minutes. [prays]
Hope Greg passes his written test at the DMV. That's happening, I believe, in about... 20 minutes. [prays]Failed the test :-P man some of the trick questions are awful.. anyways I will be re-writing it again monday .. its not a big deal. With my canadian driving lisence I can drive legally in california for the next 6 months. But I would like to get my californian lisence as soon as possible.
But I would like to get my californian lisence as soon as possible. I am re-taking the DMV test tommorow (monday). Please pray it goes well. Its so awesome how the Lord is providing and doing amazing things while im down here in California. I will post the Mexican Mission Trip soon as I get time, maybe tonight or forsure tommorow...
I am re-taking the DMV test tommorow (monday). Please pray it goes well. Its so awesome how the Lord is providing and doing amazing things while im down here in California. I will post the Mexican Mission Trip soon as I get time, maybe tonight or forsure tommorow...I took the DMV written test and the Lord showed His favour and I passed it. Also when I was talking to the people at the DMV center they were very willing to help me out and get me my full lisence without having to get a letter from the social insurance dep, etc.. Also I was able to book the actual driving road test for tommorow at 10:30 pst which is great! Please pray that goes well so I can have my full californian lisencse after tommorow! praise the Lord for letting me get all these things done before I go to the bible school campus. Also I went on a mission trip to mexico that the Lord really blessed. You can read all about it here and see pictures:MISSION TRIP: Mexico Orphanages
Also I was able to book the actual driving road test for tommorow at 10:30 pst which is great! Please pray that goes well so I can have my full californian lisencse after tommorow!Praise God, I passed the road test. Thanks for the prayers and concerns. I am just glad to be getting all the things done that are necessary for me to be doing Gods work in the next 2 years. Please continue to pray.. I will be getting some small prayer cards for myself and SI done for 2005 so people can keep this ministry in prayer over the next year. I will try and keep everyone posted on big events that occour, like meeting good ole mike (crssck) [wink]. :-P
yipee! you passed! Congratulations! (not that I had any doubts :-P )By the way, I have been passing out those business cards you sent me. :-) Loved all your pictures and postings about your visit to the orphanges.May the Lord be with you in everything you do!In Him, chanin
hehe...Praise God Greg,Should have read this first, but so cool that you passed. Again, hope you are getting settled in there and indeed also am praying that we do finally get to 'met' even though we have been practically like brothers for well over a year now. Will certainly be a big event for me, to finally 'met' the 'Big Guy' :-) (He really is BIG people, should have been a Celtic, that's a basketball team for the rest of the world)...I am going to put you on the spot now. How is everything? Being uprooted from your native land, getting acclimated to new surroundings...We know you are a man of few words in contrast to... :-? , but maybe just the Readers Digest version.
Great Greg...finally those Americans learned how a real Canadian drives! Superior of course :-P
If Greg wants to drive all the way over here to North Carolina, we can do lunch some day if you want.
I am going to put you on the spot now. How is everything? Being uprooted from your native land, getting acclimated to new surroundings...Yea its a bit tough being in new surroundings away from things I have been used to for 25 years. California is quite interesting and definetly a different animal then what I am used to but its going well. I definetly see the Lord's hand in alot of what is happening and I am trying to just stay inline with His will and plan for me. I will be going onto the campus pretty soon and am really looking forward to that.I am indebted to all that are praying for me and this ministry. Yes it would be neat to be able to meet some of the brothers and sisters from this site in person who reside in california and other parts of the USA. hmmm north carolina.. dang thats far :-P
I will be posting this on other parts of the site also but to let people know the mailing address to send packages, letters, etc to me while im in california is:SermonIndex306-N West El Norte Pkwy. #137Escondido, CA 92026, USAThis address is essentially an PO BOX so I can get large and small packages with no problem.
I recently went on a one-day trip drive up to a mountain with brother Josh to pick up an homeless brother and drive him back down to the town of escondido. It was a wonderful drive and it was amazing in 3 hours to be from the flat town to an mountain of 5000 feet elevation. Here are some photos I took from the van:Big Bear Trip photos...
Today I was able to help out in downtown San Diego in a church called "Horizon Fellowship" which is affliated with Calvary Chapel. It was neat to be back in a big city and to help pack care bags with food for people who need it. Its a neat concept that this church is undertaking its called "adopting a block or building" where they send food, knock on doors for prayer, and just simply show the love of christ to that building or block. I am excited to be a part of it and will be going back down there on thursday to help more with brother Josh. I will try and take a few photos next time I go down.
I am excited to be a part of it and will be going back down there on thursday to help more with brother Josh. I will try and take a few photos next time I go down.Me and pastor Josh were able to go back down to downtown San Diego and help the Horizon Park Chapel church out more. They are preparing for a huge outreach on the coming saturday to the downtown area and they have been praying and fasting all week long. It was awesome to be able to help with some of the hard lifting and work that was needed to be done. I really felt it was the Lord working because many of the people were fasting and the hard work would have really hit them hard. As I was packing the bags with food to be given out to poor people in San Diego there was a sense given to me that this is a very good thing to be doing. If anyone gives a quick read of the new testament you cannot escape the fact that God puts a HUGE emphasis on us taking care of the poor. It was definetly a blessing to be involved and helping out. And after this experience its something I want to be continued to be involved in notwithstanding the church I attend. As promised I got some pictures throughout the day.. enjoy:
Great pictures Greg! I was excited to discover that I have been to Horizon Park Chapel before. It's on Fir Street, right? Right next to Hillcrest where the rainbow flags proudly wave. Anyway, that little church rocks! Dude, that is so awesome that you got to go to San Diego a couple times and help out with the homeless. You've been doing quite a bit since I've been gone. I can't even express how excited I am concerning these opportunities you've had to serve!Speaking of me being gone, is that why you're not smiling in any of your pictures? Just kidding. Yikes!Okay, to bring this back to where it should be, I totally agree with you Greg concerning the New Testament mentioning how the poor should be treated. I myself have been reading again what the Old Testament has to say about the orphan, widow, foreigner and poor in the land. I even read last night that if you don't help the poor and then they cry out to God, it's considered a sin and God will deal with you. I would not want that on my head. Since getting involved with Josh's ministry to the homeless and our community, God has definitely changed my once critical and cold heart towards the homeless that would come to the church asking for help, or those on the side of the road holding up cardboard signs. I have definitely learned of Jesus' compassion, reading through the Gospels recently and hope that I will view and treat all with God's love.Well, you've been in my prayers as the Lord has lead. I'm getting more and more excited for you concerning the Bible college. You have been a blessing to all of us. May God continue to bless you as you seek to simply obey Him and get to know Him more intimantely.
GregThanks for the pictures. Do those pigeons know they are being seen all over the world? Are they special pigeons or just pigeons? Would you like me to send a picture of some of our pigeons? How about Australian and South African pigeons? Could we have a special pigeon section on the forums? What about...Sorry, great pictures. Sometimes my sense of humour just has me helpless! :-D
Great pictures Greg! I was excited to discover that I have been to Horizon Park Chapel before. It's on Fir Street, right? Right next to Hillcrest where the rainbow flags proudly wave. Anyway, that little church rocks! Yes its really an outreach to many who are homeless or lower class in san diego. It was such a blessing to meet the leadership who seem to really have the love of Christ to share with these broken people. Speaking of me being gone, is that why you're not smiling in any of your pictures? Just kidding. Yikes!no comment :-P God has definitely changed my once critical and cold heart towards the homeless that would come to the church asking for help, or those on the side of the road holding up cardboard signs.Joshs ministry has blessed me in this way also :-) Do those pigeons know they are being seen all over the world? Are they special pigeons or just pigeons? Would you like me to send a picture of some of our pigeons? How about Australian and South African pigeons? Could we have a special pigeon section on the forums? What about...hehe laugh all you want but I think its a cool photo.. I was inspired to take it 8-) if you can get a better picture of UK pigeons then we will talk :-P [laughs]
hehe laugh all you want but I think its a cool photo.. I was inspired to take it if you can get a better picture of UK pigeons then we will talkIs there any significance in the fact that these cool san diego pigeons have turned their backs on you? ;-)
Greg, what a blessing it is to see you helping out with the homeless! my heart is right there with you. Loved the pictures! In and Out? You must really love that place! :-) ysiC, Chanin
In and Out? You must really love that place!yes its a great place to eat.. and reasonably priced.. possibly the heavenly manna for our generation. :-P I was able to meet with brother Mike for the last 2 days.. click here to see about it and pictures:Mike and Greg meet finally :P
I am leaving to go to the bible school campus today. I would appreciate prayers for safe travel and for all the necessary things to happen to get accustomed and fit into the community. I will try and get some pictures of the campus in the next few days once I get established. Thank you all for your prayers, encouragements and exhorations. I am truly excited at what the Lord is going to do in my life and in the lifes of others at CCBC.
I am leaving to go to the bible school campus today. I would appreciate prayers for safe travel and for all the necessary things to happen to get accustomed and fit into the community. Will be praying for you brother Greg! God Bless,-Robert
[sniff, sniff] Miss you already brother. I keep trying to recite to myself, "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition... Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others."Escondido isn't the only place God wants to bless through you. CCBC is very blessed to get to have you for 2 years. You know I'm praying. It brings joy to my heart all the opportunities you'll have to spend time with God, learn from Him, fellowship and serve others. Please keep us all updated.
...we rest on thee, and in thy name we go...(2Ch 14:11 KJV) a bit out of the middle!
Escondido isn't the only place God wants to bless through you. CCBC is very blessed to get to have you for 2 years. You know I'm praying.Just to let people know I have arrived safely on campus and [snagged] some internet connection. Yes definetly Yolanda, but I do feel the Lord would have me involved with the brothers and sisters in escondido also. I really think God is starting to do some awesome things at Calvary Chapel Escondido.
You're in my prayers bro.
1Th 2:17 Brothers, although we have been separated from you for a little while-in person but not in heart-we desire with great eagerness to see you again face to face. And we shall brother. ...'not in heart' Not by any distance. Our prayers are with you my friend.
1Th 2:17 Brothers, although we have been separated from you for a little while-in person but not in heart-we desire with great eagerness to see you again face to face. And we shall brother....'not in heart'Not by any distanceWell...just wanted to give a BIG AMEN to that! For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for? (Deut 4:7)
I just want to say to everyone that is praying for the sermonindex ministry and myself thanks!! The site has been running well with [i]little[/b] complications. I have started classes here at CCBC. Here is my list of courses I am taking:-Christian Living-Hebrews (using andrew murray "Holiest of All" commentary as -text)!@!-Hermenutics-Genesis-Simplified Greek-M199 placement (I am working in Internet Services which is running all the calvarychapel.com websites)-Chuck Tracts (listening through 72 sermons of chuck smith)Its been going great so far. I am really putting an effort forward to learn the greek. I have taken only 18.5 units for this sermester so I can focus my energies on greek and sermonindex.net with my studies. I will try and get some pictures up for the campus etc..
Bro. Greg,Will be praying for you as you have started classes. I remember well my days in Bible College, I attended Central Bible College in Springfield Missouri. I guess my fondest memories would include my first message preached at a street/park service near the campus of SMSU University. Students were encouraged to "use" what they learned. I remember well the Friday all-night prayer meetings, I remember the many late-night Theological debates in the dorms. As I think back, older now, maybe wiser? I wish I would have appreciated this time more. I wish I would have been slower to speak and quicker to listen. I long for that innocence, that first love, that first zeal and hunger for God and His word. God is even now granting this desire of my heart, and how grateful I am.And so Greg, cherish it, take it all in, try and put it in slow motion to savour the moment. It will all pass quickly. You will make new friends that will last a lifetime. In Christ, tony
HI GregGood to hear from you. I am very interested in 'simplified Greek'. Do they do any learning by extension stuff? I know lots of missionaries in far flung places who would love to get their hands on that module. You will have to understand my sense of humour to understand this quotation!(Mat 20:17 KJV) And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,One of the great advantages of such times is that 'Jesus' can 'take you apart'. Don't be afraid of it He can put it all back together again!
Brother Gregg wrote:Hebrews (using andrew murray "Holiest of All" commentary as -text)!@!I pray that you hear His voice as you labor diligently through the thoughts of Andrew Murray. I pray that you see His righteousness as the means by which we are refreshed and renewed daily. What section of sermons are you listening through? In ChristJeff
Yes, it is such a blessing to hear and see all God is doing in and through you up there at the Bible college. It makes me cry mostly, tears of joy. But it also puts a great big smile on my face. God is so good! You're in my continual prayers.
Good to hear from you. I am very interested in 'simplified Greek'. Do they do any learning by extension stuff? I know lots of missionaries in far flung places who would love to get their hands on that module.Hi Ron, sorry for the belated response. Yes I think they are setting up quite an extensive "School of Correspondence" which people can get the classes in mp3 and or video (DVD) and essentially have many of the benefits of the class as if they were here in person. Click here for more details on these correspondence courses... there doesn't seem to be a course listing but I am sure greek is offered. The boo they are using for the course is: Benginner's grammer of the Greek New Testament by William Hersey Davis. And also an greek lexicon and an interliner greek new testament (I dont have it infront of me but I am pretty sure its "Greens" version which is the one based on the greek the people used for the KJV). But in class the teacher said the "stephanus" version is the best and purest probably going back to the apostle paul.
Hi Everyone, I am feeling abit sick and would covet your prayers for my physical health. School is going great and I have been quite busy working on assignments and homework. I have some pictures that I will get up very soon of the scenery of the campus. Here is my quick weekly homework assignment for the hebrews class:Assignment 2 – Hebrewsby Greg Gordon“Let us fear therefore, lest haply, a promise being left of entering into his rest, anyone of you should seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because they were not united by faith with them that heard. For we which have believed do enter into that rest; even as he hath said, As I sware in my wrath, they shall not enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.” – Hebrews 4:1-3The Gospel of God has been preached from days old through God’s mighty works and provisions, and the people believing on these things with faith were counted as partaking of the promise of the rest of God. What is the rest of God? How did people enter into it? And how can a person fail to enter in? These are some questions, which are worth meditating on and trying to answer. In the preface to a commentary on Hebrews the godly Andrew Murray states really the thrust of why many don’t know the rest of God, or fall short of it in our day, “the main difficultly lay in the want of religious earnestness. Their case was very much what has been the story of almost every Church, and what marks the state of the greater part of Christendom at the present day.” Therefore we need to go through with God and enter into all that He has for us lest we fall short of our benefits and position in the life of Jesus Christ whose spirit we partake with daily. Firstly let us look at the rest of God seeing how it is shown in this passage of Hebrews and also as a spiritual principal found across the scriptures. The rest of God simply put is a person that being Jesus Christ. But it is not just accepting Christ but entering into a belief in the Gospel of God that takes us beyond our natural capacity to rest into a heavenly rest. A type of this is shown as God rests from His creative work on the seventh day and also for us as our summation of salvation shall enter into an eternal rest in the bosom of God Himself. But even know on this earthly plane we can enter into a rest in Christ, a place where our live is so hid in Christ in the heavens that our existence becomes heavenly. Rest is the opposition of work or activity, and it is said that Christ died once for all that all have died and therefore those who live should live for Christ alone and not for themselves. Therefore the Rest of God is apart from the selfish desires and works of men but rather a place where God will be glorified when we strive to enter therein. Rest is defined by the commentator Matthew Henry as “of entering into a covenant-relation to Christ, and a state of communion with God through Christ, and of growing up therein, till we are made perfect in glory.” Now this rest being shown by God to be such a wonderful place to enter into by the gospel of God but at the same time is shown to be a place where a person much persist and desire full-heartily to enter. Believe being the paramount and really only access way into this rest is made very clear in the scripture passage. John Calvin stated logically that if “Unbelief alone shuts us out; then faith alone opens an entrance.” So to enter into rest requires belief not just in general but in the object of God’s ‘good tidings’ or more commonly phrased gospel. God has made the way open to His rest to all that would hear the gospel and believe therefore being obedient to that heavenly calling. The fact that this gospel is given so widely and unreservedly speaks much more of the wonder of partaking in something so free and glorious. Surely God is still offering this rest in the words of the prophet Isaiah, ‘come eat and drink with no money and be satisfied’ this being said over 2000 years ago still rings true today in hearts of people that enter into the rest believing. Now lastly the most frightful and pitiful side of this wonderful meditation is that though God has a rest and offers it freely, that people can still fall short of it to their destruction. The scripture passage that we are pondering starts off with the chilling words ‘Let us fear’ this being the sound heed given to all that would desire to partake of the rest that God offers. We cannot enter this rest frivolously not understanding the God’s rest in whom we are entering. God gives the solemn requirement of those who believe to have this belief marked upon their hearts in a life of rest leading to rest, ‘choose this day whom you will serve’ (believe). In God’s rest is shown grace and mercy, but apart from His rest or the promise of it lies, wrath and a fearful exception of things to come. This warning of falling short of His rest cannot be emphasized enough we need to realize that salvation and Christian life is something that is ongoing and does not stop until we are taking into His eternal rest in the bosom of God. The old Methodist John Clarke shares this concern of falling short in these words, “The verb ‘come short’ is applied here metaphorically; it is an allusion, of which there are so many in this epistle, to the races in the Grecian games: he that came short was he who was any distance, no matter how small, behind the winner. Will it avail any of us how near we get to heaven, if the door be shut before we arrive? How dreadful the thought, to have only missed being eternally saved! To run well, and yet to permit the devil, the world, or the flesh, to hinder in the few last steps! Reader, watch and be sober.” How much more can we all individually in our day as the Church of Jesus Christ take heed to these words and the testimony and ensamples of Gods dealings with the Jews and the church. Are we falling short of this day by day abiding and believing in the promises of God? Let the living God sift your heart daily while it is still called ‘Today’, now is the day of Salvation let us be found abiding in Him, knowing Him and being known by Him.Prayer: Lord lead me into thy rest daily while it is still called ‘today’. Give me an believing heart that is reckoning and ultimately resting on your promises of life day by day. Let not my heart become cold and dull through unbelief, make me to love thy commandments and enlarge my heart that I may walk in your ways. Amen.
Here are some pictures from the Calvary Chapel Bible School Campus, I will get up more in the next day or so.
And also an greek lexicon and an interliner greek new testament (I dont have it infront of me but I am pretty sure its "Greens" version which is the one based on the greek the people used for the KJV). But in class the teacher said the "stephanus" version is the best and purest probably going back to the apostle paul. Thanks Greg, I missed this. The Stephen's text was created from a group of manuscripts which are really very small sub-set of the Byzantine textform manuscripts. Personally, I would have more confidence in Green than Stephens. What Bible software are you using now that you have swapped to Macs? I ask because E-sword has the Pierpoint-Robinson Byzantine textform Greek version available. (so does Online Bible)If your lecturer is looking for the Greek text behind the KJV Scrivener's construct would be the best. Scrivener was a strong advocate of the Byzantine text and created the text that he believed must have been used by the KJV translators. This is also available on e-sword and online bible.
Here are some pictures from the Calvary Chapel Bible School Campus, I will get up more in the next day or so.Nice pix, but a conspicuous absence of pigeons?
What Bible software are you using now that you have swapped to Macs?I am not using any bible software at this point on the mac. I am praying that I can get this software at discount: http://www.accordancebible.com/ - it is just made for the mac is supposed to be top quality.Yes I apologize for the lack of people in the pictures I have not been ambitious to use my camera that much this semester yet. I will get around to it. :-P
Things are going great at the Bible School. I have been very busy with homework and times of fellowship with believers. God has been teaching me much and I know he is softening my heart more and more as I press into Him. There is so much work to do in our lifes and I know God has alot of work to do, I am just trying to submit as much as I can.I have been so immersed in the scriptures its amazing how time I have been able to spend reading the word, hearing it taught and expounded. Psalm 119 has been precious as we go through it every day for devotionals where a different teacher teaches each day. I have gotten a few more pictures up:and others here: CCBC PicturesThank you everyone for your prayers and support. There are alot of amazing things happening in my life and its a huge blessing to be here to grow in the Lord.
Update: April 11thSorry I have not gotten more updates with my progress at Bible School in California. I am in the second part of the semester, there was an spring break week which I stayed with Josh Olsons family and had great times of fellowship and doing some great things. I had a chance to rock climb and if you all really knew how scared I am of heights it was a miricale. It was great I went with a the mission cordinators from CC Escondido (Rick and Kelly K.). There were lots of other times to serve and read, and be blessed during the break so when I came back to school I was very refreshed physically, mentally, and spiritually. It has been great to finish all the mid-terms for my courses. I really had a peace and assurance for finishing each one and I feel I did well on all of them. God has definetly been blessing me with many friends and dear brothers in the Lord to fellowship with on campus. There still are trials and things I have to overcome but God has been proving Himself over and over again. I have been spending much time in the Word of God. Also I have been diving into some great books. Please continue to pray for this ministry daily and also for Gods leading for me when the semester is over. It finishes about May 26th.. I am praying about being able to intern or serve in some CC church possibly in California and also re: the front page of SI there is an Ukraine mission trip that I am applying to go. There are many doors open to travel over the states and serve in a few places during the summer so please do pray that God gives me direction for these things. One great truth the Lord has been really teaching me is to enter into His rest.. being and not doing. God desires for us to be more like Jesus. Once we are more Christ-like then the places we are supposed to go to and do will be clear. We will be effective in every area and situation if we are being like Jesus.Hebrews 4:1: Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 1 Peter 4:7: But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.Do pray also for Gods favor to be able to show an Leonard Ravenhill video: "The Judgement Seat of Christ" video in DVD in the main autorodium one night before the semester ends. One brother here has been duplicating DVD's of Ravenhill and Oswald J. Smith. I am excited about this to see these spreading around campus and stirring students to the Lord in a more powerful way.Definitely praying! Especially when I was awaken at 3:00 in the morning by the craziest thunder and lighting storm I've ever experienced in California. Still raining today and I heard the rain fall has been more severe in LA, so I definitely prayed that you got in safely. Actually... by now you would have arrived in LAX.Its amazing to think that I have been in California for almost 3 months. It has really seemed like yesterday but I am amazed that I am here and so blessed. I am learning so much life experience and about God. Thank you all at SI for supporting me in everyway thus far. I really have a spirit of expectancy for what God is doing in my life. I can't wait until the next step and opportunity, which is almost daily :-D
Update: April 19thThe Lord has really been gracious to me in the last few weeks. I have had some great times of fellowship and classes are going great. Thank you for all that are praying and keeping me before the Lord. I am starting to realize how important the prayers of the saints are for all things relating to the Kingdom of God. Do pray also for Gods favor to be able to show an Leonard Ravenhill video: "The Judgement Seat of Christ" video in DVD in the main autorodium one night before the semester ends. One brother here has been duplicating DVD's of Ravenhill and Oswald J. Smith. This is a great praise report that the Lord led me to a brother that knew a friend that could do this reproduction of the DVD's! this definetly was the Lord and I have been giving some copies of the DVD's of the judgement seat of Christ away to some brothers. God has really had divine appointments for me to give them away! Please continue to pray that I can show the judgement seat video in the audoturium at the school where many could come and watch it. I am sure it will lead into a great time of corporate prayer, I would love to see this event work out, so please pray!I am ontop of all my assignments and work its been so great to work on topics that I so readily enjoy. Its such a joy to read the bible and study it. I missed an opportunity to go and visit Zac Poonen, he was preaching about 7 hours away in northern california. A few brothers from the site went to hear him! You can hear the audio of it here: Two Great Secrets Revealed Part 1 / Part 2As many of you know I have applyed with Kelly and Yolanda from Calvary Chapel Escondido to go on a mission trip to Ukraine you can read more about that here: Ukraine thread. There is need for prayer support and also financial support. The trip will be from the middle of june to early july of this upcoming summer. Please pray for me learning russian! God has really been blessing me with the desire and motivation to learn the language so I can at least show the kids that I will be ministering to that I care. Who knows what else the Lord will use it for or the plans He has. There are lots of other great things happening and I would ask that you pray for me as I seek the Lord on many issues and things to do with my life.I am very blessed to be able to share these things with brethren across the world at SI.
This is really great to read. Total answers to my prayers! Keep seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness... then as He wills and chooses, He'll add these things to you. Worry about nothing, keep your faith in God simple, and keep walking down the path that He leads you down.
Update: May 2ndWell things are winding down pretty much at Bible School. There are about 3 weeks left the school semesester ends on May 26th. I am working on alot of finals and finishing up last minute things. God has really blessed me to be able to stay ontop of the work and beyond that really be blessed by spending more time with Him and other Christian brothers and sisters. I would ask that you pray about my last time at the school for this semester that it would be honoring to God and that He would enable me to finish well as I have begun. God's provision has been amazing and I am very excited about His continally provision and watching over me.I am looking to possibly intern at the Calvary Chapel Church in Escondido and should be meeting with the pastors there this week! I am very excited about this and getting some practical disipleship and also helping serve with the skills that the Lord has given me. Who knows what opportunities and ministry direction the Lord will give me as I am faithful with the small things. So please pray about that meeting. Also as many of you know I am going to Ukraine from mid june to the 6th of July to serve and minister to street kids and visit and encourage a few Calvary Chapel churches in Ukraine and also Belarus. There is still a need for prayer and support more information can be found here: Ukraine Mission tripSome other great news that I would like to share is that me and Yolanda are in a committed relationship now. We have been friends since I came down the first time to California and really God allows us to be very good friends in the Lord to encoruage and strengthen each other. But recently God definetly made it clear it was ok to go ahead with becoming more then friends. Yolanda has and will continue to be such a blessing in my life and I really feel part of God's plan for me in this life. Please pray for us if you feel led that our relationship would honor God and that ministry and serving God would be something that is paramount. Man God has been so good to me and I really feel I am in His will for my life being down here in Calfornia.I am very much anticipating to share all the great things God is going to do this next week, month as Bible School finishes up. If anyone has any more direct questions about my experiences at Bible School thus far I would love to answer them.
Some other great news that I would like to share is that me and Yolanda are in a committed relationship now.God is so good Greg. Many many happy years for you both, is my loving prayer. Now you have someone to read "Song of Solomon" with, God is good! amen.Neil
Many many happy years for you both, is my loving prayer. Now you have someone to read "Song of Solomon" with, God is good! amen.NeilThanks for your prayers. [laughs] However, I don't think the Song of Solomon would be appropriate for us to read together at this point. What I've gotten out of that book while recently reading through it this year is still between God and I. [smile] I think we'll stick to the good stuff, like flee youthful lusts. That's a good one.GregWow! I will admit that I was curious to see if you were going to mention us on here. [laughs] I think I'm still in a bit of shock... but that's really cool that you mentioned it, because it is a part of your life and what's going on. We do need people's prayers and... as God continues to be in this, leading and guiding us, being first and foremost in our lives, hopefully the watching, praying body will be blessed to witness God at work.Of course you know, I'm praying that you get all your school work done. It is important to finish well. I'm praying for your possible internship here at Calvary Chapel of Escondido this summer, and that God would prepare us to be used in Ukraine and Belarus in June/July. May your life continue to be a good witness and example to all those on SI, and may you also learn from the older, wiser ones on here. God bless Greg. [smile]
Yolanda has and will continue to be such a blessing in my life and I really feel part of God's plan for me in this life. Please pray for us if you feel led that our relationship would honor God and that ministry and serving God would be something that is paramount.“...a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” (Ec 4:12)Don’t know the right theology about it, but as I read this verse, it shows me the kind of relationship God has in view. A relationship between a man and woman who are fully committed to their one and only first love, the Lord Jesus. I must be honest, I had seen it coming bro…:-P ;-) but I’m very happy for you. I believe with all my heart that when you stay single-focused on Christ, God will use this relationship to deepen your personal relationship with Jesus (for both of you :-)). It will be part of the School of Christ in your life. Many aspects of who God is, how He looks at us, treats us, what His feelings are like…they will all become so much more real to you (speaking out of "brain"-experience :-P here) …and God will only mould you more and more…until Christ is all that you have left. I really pray that your trip to the Ukraine will be a blessing. There’s that wonderful verse in Luke 16:10, saying: “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much”. May God write these words on our hearts…There’s that simple song that I think is so awesome:Make me a servant,Humble and meekLord, let me lift upThose who are weakAnd may the prayer of my heart always be…Make me a servantMake me a servantMake me a servantTodayMay the Lord use you (Greg and Yolanda) as humble servants of a high and lofty King in the Ukraine and Belarus! God always takes His time to prepare His people...and this is part of the process (edit: and part of His ministry already!). Seek Me and live (Amos 5:5)Blessings,Your brother, Paul
NeilThanks for your comments and encouragement, please do pray for us we definetly want to be an shining example to the body of Christ. As God has and continues to lead us closer together as we seek Him first.Yolanda :-) I am so glad the Lord has brought us together in His timing. It is and will continue to be something that is rich and full because its in the Lord. Thinking and praying for you! [smile]PaulDear Brother Thank you for those words from the Lord. What an encoruagement and blessing. I covet your prayers! I am very happy also brother the Lord definetly is good to us. Its so true that if you seek first His kingdom and righteousness all things will be added to us.
Update: May 17thUpon writing this update there is about less then 2 weeks of school left. There has been so much scripture and times of fellowship that it really is still sinking into my spirit and mind. God has been blessing me very much with great experiences in Him and in ministry. I am working on many finals for courses and finishing up last assignments. I think my grades are quite good but over that I know the time in the scriptures has been well worth it. I am very much looking forward to the Ukraine trip which is coming up quite soon in about 1 month. Once I am done at school aprox (may 26th) I will be going to stay at brother Josh's house till I go on the mission trip to Ukraine. During that time I will be interning at Calvary Chapel Escondido and specifically helping with the website in which Yolanda is the webservant for. It will be great to serve the body of Christ in this way. I should be staying in California over the summer and interning at the CCE church serving in different areas of ministry. This opportunity is a great answer to prayer to get involved with ministry and apply what I am learning.I have also been blessed with a car down here. A family from SI is helping me to pay for it so I can have a vechile down here. It has been a tremendous blessing and really God's perfect timing. I have been able to use it for ministry and for necessary personal use. I am definetly in awe of God's blessings. It is a simple verse but has been one that has been playing over and over in my mind this semester.Matthew 6:33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.As I mentioned in my last update God has lead me and Yolanda into a committed relationship and I can't begin to tell how that has also been God's timing and such a blessing. I really feel in God's will and that He is preparing me for many things. Yolanda is a wonderful gift from God and its going to be great to serve with her at the Calvary Chapel Escondido church and also during the mission trip to Ukriane. Thanks for your continued prayers and support. There is a still a need for more financial support for the Ukraine trip, I still need to pay the $800 for the camp, I have already payed the $1500 for the plane tickets. Please pray about supporting me.simply mail money or check to Calvary Chapel of Escondido, 1675 Seven Oakes Road, Escondido, CA 92026 (make check payable to: Calvary Chapel of Escondido, memo: Greg / Ukraine).
DezCall wrote:I must be honest, I had seen it coming bro…I don't know what it is by I thought the same thing. I think it was the pictures you posted on your expeditionary trip to California that got me thinking.Ah well...Gods timing.
ZekeThanks for your comment. Thats amazing that you had that feeling.. it was even something I didn't totally have till later when I started to realize that God had plans I knew not of. It's amazing how He works. But when I did first meet Yolanda there was something special about her, now I know what it is. :-) I recently went to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa which is the main church where all the calvary chapels started. It's Chuck Smith's church and it was such a blessing, me and a bible school student (Xavier) went for a service last thursday. Here are some pictures of the church and ourselves:
Had communicated this offline to Greg earlier upon first hearing of this wonderful news and it was such an incredible thing to hear...But to you Yodi and Greg, that the Lord bless and keep you both in His perfect will, my prayers will always be with you even as they are for everyone here, can't but help to brood over this place... I am so thankful that I got to meet you bro. and all these dear saints through all this here at SI. The things I have seen and heard and felt... Praise be to God.
I really appreciate all your guys' prayers concerning our relationship. I know Greg appreciates it too. It does encourage us to know that people are praying for us and have been before we even knew. And it's good that people see us as well so we can get good, godly counsel and advice. Above all, I know we both are seeking God to change our hearts how He wills. We are two different people with different experiences, hurts, lessons, etc. and it has to be God that molds us together, preparing us for the ministry He has for us together.GregYou know I'm praying that you efficiently get your remaining school work done. I will pray more for your summer plans, and continue to pray for our upcoming mission trip to Ukraine. Keep seeking to passionately know God! Keep seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness! I love you Gregory.
:-D :-D :-D This whole thread makes me smile.
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. Num.6:24-26Congratulations! Yo!
YolandaI love you Gregory.I love you too! you are a gift from God in my life. Keep seeking Him more and more and then we will draw closer in Gods will for our lifes.
Oh! I just read through this part of the thread and found out that you guys are "together". I had a feeling about this, too! I'm so happy for you both. I feel like I'm reading a romance novel! Only it's real life! This is so great! What an awesome testimony! Your pure relationship developing right here in front of this band of misfits! I love it! I will be praying for you all. God bless. Dian.
YolandaQuote: I love you Gregory.I love you too!Sir...I feel like it is my responsibility to make a comment here. I really would like to ask you to read the community rules. If you're replying to a post, stay on topic as much as possible.Sir. I'm sorry to say, but these kinds of replies are wayyyyyyyy off topic sir...:-P :-P :-) ;-) :-PPaulp.s. for those who didn't understand: I'm just kidding here and having much fun about it :-) May God bless you both!
DezcallYou scared me! I think my heart is still beating rapidly. I absolutely hate breaking rules! I would have been all ashamed if I was setting a bad example. I'm glad you were joking though. I am always open to correction though. I do consider very much that my public and personal life both affect the body of Christ, and I'm trying my best to live a life pleasing to the Lord. I definitely "need Thee every hour"!SpitfireA romance novel, eh? Hmmm... [laughs]. Well, I would continue to ask you, and others on here, for your prayers. I know Greg and I desire to have a relationship that's pleasing to the Lord, and pure. Pray for our purity. Pray for wisdom. Pray for the fear of the Lord. Your prayers mean so much! Greg and I are praying too, and we definitely saw God's faithfulness, helping us work out our differences this weekend. We had an awesome time of fellowship with two older married couples from our church too. Greg and I are always telling each other, "God is so good to us".Greg[smile] "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6).End of SchoolI'm sure Greg mentioned that he'll be out of school this Thursday, May 26th. He's been blessed to be able to stay with Pastor Josh, Christy, and their family. Please pray that Greg would be a blessing to this family during his stay with them. He's asked me to pray for his summer and next semester plans, so I ask for your guy's prayers as well. Currently he's trying to figure out if he'll be living on campus next semester, or if he could find a place to stay here in Escondido while he goes to school. So please pray for wisdom and direction. Also pray that he would be faithful with and a good steward of the things God's blessed him with: finances, car, church internship, Ukraine mission trip, Sermon Index, our relationship, his family, etc.May God grant you all the wisdom to know how to pray for this ministry and for us.
PaulI love you brother.. hehe. :-P Yolanda"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6).Thinks and meditates on these things [smile].
Update: May 25thHow time goes fast! its the second last day today, I have a genesis final to write this morning and then that's all my classes finished. Then I have to spend most of the rest of the day cleaning and packing. I am so very blessed to be down here in California and I thank everyone for there prayers for me and this ministry. It would not be possible without your prayers, none of this! As Yolanda mentioned I will be staying down in Escondido with pastor Josh's family. And for the next 4 weeks about I will be serving at the Calvary Chapel Escondido Church www.ccesco.com ! And also helping Josh out in ministry his ministry site is www.openarmsinc.com I am praying about if I should take any small road trips during this time, one namely to Texas to visit a few friends and visit David Ravenhill and others. I will be serving at the church until the mission trip in June to Ukraine. Please continue to pray for me as I get opportunies to serve, teach, and share the love of Christ with others. Also I will be able to spend time with Yolanda and get to know her better. Please do pray for us and our relationship that when we serve together in ministry God will meld our efforts together that they may glorify God. I am definetly aware that satan can use many things for bad and work in relationships to do bad things. So please be prayeful for us that we may glorify God and know Him more continually. Thanks to all at SI for your interest and participation in my life. I really feel that many of you have been and are a vital part of my life. What an encouragement the body of Christ is! I am looking forward to meeting you all in heaven.
GregPraying for you. Praying for us. [smile] Falling more in love with my dear God, looking forward to how He may allow me to love you more and more.
