The Midnight hour closing in. That great Tribulation near...GEORGE WARNOCK.

January 2005 Reflections

It certainly appears to me that we are close to the Day of the Lord. - A ‘Day’ that is described in scripture as a time of gross darkness in the world about us…yet holds forth the promise of a glorious Light that will shine upon His people.

The prophets spoke much of this "Great" yet "Terrible" Day - when great darkness shall engulf the earth, while His people walk in the Light of the Lord Jesus. God wants us to "walk in the Light" now lest we presumptuously think all is well because we have good doctrine, and attend a good church.

We must have true faith, lest in our presumption we find that Day to be one of darkness… and we "stumble on the dark mountains", and look for the light that is not there. No matter how dark the night may be surrounding us, "the children of the Light" will walk in the Light of God. When gross darkness covered the whole land of Egypt…there was "Light" in the homes of the people of God.

As God’s wrath is poured out on a world of iniquity, God has made every provision for the children of Light - and that provision is nothing less than the "whole Armor of God". (Eph. 6), described in Romans as "the Armor of Light" (Rom.13:12).

The climatic battle of the ages is closing in upon us, and God will have a Gideon army whose only weapons were - a trumpet and a pitcher…with a lamp inside the pitcher. Right now they seem to be doing nothing for God--as they sit in the darkness on the hillside. But in that Day they will break their pitchers and hold their lamps high; and with trumpet blast (a sure, clear voice from God) they will declare their victory- with no other weapons than the Armor of God.

Gideon’s army shouted aloud, "The Sword of the Lord and of Gideon…!" -- and panic and fear griped the hearts of the enemy until they fled in terror. There were many volunteers in Gideon’s army at first…32,000 of them… But God sent most of them home, choosing to use only 300, whom He knew would give Him all the glory.

I emphasize these things because it seems to me that God’s people for the most part do not care to become involved with God’s battle plan…but choosing to be mobilized by some outstanding church leader rather than knowing the voice of the Lord God for themselves. Some do not even want to be around on the Day of the Lord…because they read of the terror of that Day…and fail to see the Light that will engulf the darkness.

They talk about God ‘sparing’ them from His wrath - yet fail to understand that God "spares" His people, by clothing them with "the whole Armor of God".

We have ample teaching from the Lord Jesus and His apostles, admonishing us concerning that Day. Be alert! Be awake! "Let us not sleep"…said the apostle, but "Let us watch and be sober"… Put on the whole Armor! This is God’s provision for us in that Day: "The breastplate of faith and love." …"and for an helmet the hope of salvation, for God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ." (See 1 Thessalonians 5:1-8)

Many just brush aside this teaching of the Day of the Lord, or view it as something too controversial to meddle with. Then there are many who remember the stories they heard from their parents or grandparents of how they anticipated the ‘end-times’…60 -70 or 80 years ago. "But we’re still here!" they say. True enough, but we are 60 - 70 - 80 years closer to it now that we were then.

Let’s consider a possible scenario in the days of Noah. Here’s a group of people taunting Noah for his folly. "Noah, you have been talking about God’s judgments for 119 years. When are you going to forget that wild dream you had?" But the next year it happened!

We are farther along in God’s program that we were 80 years ago… and as Jesus predicted because of this lapse of time, there is now a generation in the "church" …that has become careless, indifferent, insensitive to the times…and are saying (not verbally but with their actions), "My Lord delayed His coming".

The apostle Peter said ‘scoffers’ would arise in the last days, saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since our fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation" (2 Pet. 3:4) Some of us recall that kind of scoffing, many decades ago. But we are farther along now than the time Peter spoke about.

I recall an engineer who worked in a place where I once worked, who would use the expression, "He’s slower than the second coming!" (referring to a slothful man on the job). We know all about the scoffers! Yet none of them are saying, "All things continue as they were…" We have moved beyond the point Peter referred to -- in just the last two or three decades.

Nobody is saying it now! Scientists are not saying it. Environmentalists are not saying it. Educators are not saying it. Politicians are not saying it. The "Press" is not saying it. Even ordinary scoffers are not saying it! There are frequent references in the news about "Armageddon" …as one catastrophe follows another. Planet earth has become a worrisome topic by men in high places.

A year ago I heard a panel of eminent scientists declare that the ocean would be ‘fished out’ within 10 years if the nations don’t get together and make enforceable conservation laws to save our fish…endangered as they are by pollution, as well as by high tech ocean farming.

Our beautiful pine forest in British Columbia could be wiped out, if we cannot control the beetle! Men of science and knowledge fear that Planet Earth’s oxygen supply is in serious danger of being depleted. Peter spoke about end time scoffers who say, "All things continue as they were since the beginning." We are far beyond that time now.

Still many of God’s people, who have lost the vision of His Appearing continue to think like the crazy world in which we live - "There’s nothing we can do about it; so let’s live it up!"

I say it’s time we think about God’s holy Armor!…time to polish it up and put it on!

This holy Armor of Light will be our victory in this awesome Night that is closing in upon us. Can we not hear Him knocking at the door? "Please let Me in…Please open the door and invite Me to come in. I want to sit at your table and eat with you, and you with Me."

Yet, we are saying by our nonchalant actions.. "O, He can come in if He wants to…Surely He knows we love Him, and we are working hard to see the promotion of His Gospel in the earth."

I am not a pessimist by any means…except when it concerns the purposes of men. Was it pessimism when word got around on the Titanic, that this unsinkable vessel had struck an iceberg and was sinking? Some thought so, and carried on with their music, dancing and games.

They simply believed the engineers were right: they were on a boat that was unsinkable. The captain himself turned a deaf ear to the news that icebergs were near at hand. He must have this wonderful legacy of steering the most beautiful, unsinkable Queen of the Seas to America in record time, before he retired.

When reality struck home the optimism vanished, the wild and happy music and laughter subsided---and the orchestra began to play; "Nearer my God to Thee".

When will God’s people learn that Titanic earth has struck a ‘berg’ and is sinking?

Were Jeremiah, Isaiah and Joel pessimists because they saw the people of God doing their own thing, with no fear of God in their hearts, heedless of the One who had separated them unto Himself to be a Holy Nation? I know God will continue to reach out to His people. But it seems there are very few in our land or in the U.S., who are earnestly calling upon God, confessing their sin and making Him Lord of their lives.

Instead they think their outreaches and works will be accounted unto them as righteousness. The music says it all, "We are a happy, jovial, people praising the Lord." Away with solemn songs bidding the Lord of Glory to come to His holy Temple; to cleanse us, purge us, and make us to be totally separated unto Him.

For the most part we hear these words, spoken or implied, : "We are rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing." How does the Lord of the Church respond to that? He looks upon us and says, "Thou art wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked" …and we simply will not accept that verdict.

He offers to us the true riches; Gold, tried in the fire…Eyesalve to anoint our eyes that we might see…White raiment to clothe ourselves with His own garments of holiness, purity and grace. We just go our way, choosing to clothe ourselves with the filthy garments of our good works, works of our own choosing.

In the midst of the dearth, we know our God is preparing a "willing People" for the Day of His Power. He is preparing a Joseph in a prison-house for the Day of Famine; a Moses in the wilderness of Midian, who will go forth with no weapon but a stick in his hand to deliver a whole nation of slaves; an Elijah people who will "stand before God" and hear words from His mouth, and effectively call a people to repentance ; a John the Baptist arising in the midst of a stream-lined and proud religious order, calling men to repentance, be they religious or profane.

And in the outcome of it all, God will have a "glorious Church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing"….A HOLY Bride that will cry out, in union with the Spirit of God, to the poor, wretched and needy of the earth: "Come! Come!. Whosoever will, let him take of the Water of Life freely".

May the Lord help us all in these awesome times, to draw closer and closer to our Lord Jesus. For only in union with Him will we have unfailing supply of "oil" to keep our lamps burning in the midnight hour that is closing upon us.

Hi,
Elijah comes again before "The Great Tribulation" or "Second half of the 7 years".
It is clear the first half of the 7 years are not similar to the second half of the 7 years.
The Spirit of Elijah will do exactly what the Spirit of Elijah did the first and second times that it came ,it will turn the hearts of the fathers back to its Children and the Hearts of the Children back to the fathers. The Spirit of Elijah will again make way for Christ once more and will be a harbinger again for the day of the Lord.
The Spirit of Elijah will preach repentance again not just to Israel but the entire world showing grace one last time to the world before "last half of the 7 years" or "great tribulation".The world will have a credible witness to accept or reject once again before "the day of the lord".
The coming AntiChrist has to wait for the ministry of Elijah to be over before he gets to rule. The wait will last the first "half of the 7 years".
Once the first half of the 7 years is over the world will enter "The Great Tribulation" ,it does not enter the "Great Tribulation" straight away,

The end time scenario is impossible without a Jewish presence in the region known today as Palestine, formerly Canaan. The final time of great tribulation will be a Judeo-centric tribulation, swirling about the controversy of the Jews in the land, and likely, the controversy of who is the rightful owner of Jerusalem. After almost two thousand years, we are among the first generations to be able to gaze again upon a Jewish presence in the land. Therefore regarding eschatological prophecy, no, things are not always as they have been. The return of Israel brought a sea change to the prophetic landscape.

If anyone may reply that the Jews don't get in the kingdom just because they are Jews, then save your time. I understand that. Meanwhile, George Warnock is definitely on to something in my opinion.

Thanks.

Hi ,
If you teach about "The Great Tribulation" it is remiss of the teacher if he/she doesnt distinguish between the 7 year period known as Daniels last week and the period of time contained within that last week called "The Great Tribulation".
The Great Tribulation is 3 1/2 yrs in duration not 7 years.
Then a good thing to teach is what is the function of the first half of the 7 years and what is the function of the second half of the 7 years.
Anybody who teaches that all the 7 years are "The Great Tribulation" are obviously incorrect,

Staff I'm in agreement with you concerning the first 3 1/2 years then the great tribulation being in the last 3 1/2 years. I do believe there is a bigger picture we must concern ourselves with though at this time.

Heeding the call of the Holy Spirit and obeying the Word of God concerning Holiness and a right walk before God. Allowing the Holy Spirit to sanctify us to prepare us for our Bride Groom, Jesus Christ, and Christ arising within our hearts.

Is it not possible Staff that He is preparing us to be that last days witness? Though undeserving of such a calling. The pull of the Holy Spirit towards righteousness within our lives seems a stronger call within me then ever before. I since an urgency concerning it in a way I have not felt before. What of you, is this true concerning your spirit as well?

Paul had instructed the church to be on guard for the day of the Lord (1Thes 5:2, 6-8), as also Peter exhorts believers to be always "looking for and hasting to the coming of the day of the God” (2Pet 3:12 ASV). This would hardly make sense if the church has been removed from the earth seven years before a post-tribulational day of the Lord.

Why would Paul be instructing the church that they should not be deceived regarding the coming appearance of the man of sin and the yet to come day of the Lord if he knew they were to escape it all in a pre-trib rapture? It seems Paul and Peter should have concluded their remarks by saying something along the lines of, "But none of this really concerns you since you will all escape it before it begins."

Eschatology has a terrible reputation due in large part to failed rapture predictions. Still, it's not splitting hairs it would seem to try and determine what is what and when is what going to occur.

How can a church be a last days witness if they are going to be gone right when things get really bad?

What can work more against the church's preparation for final things than the view that they will not have to face it?

B
billy1980

"What can work more against the church's preparation for final things than the view that they will not have to face it?" David

I would have to say, not allowing the Holy Spirit to led them in sanctification. Whatever the four views one believes concerning the end times. It is their walk with Christ which will be of up most importance. One close to God, following the Spirit's direction daily will preserver no matter eschatological belief. Because their foundation is in Christ brother.

I would wager their are many strong Christians, strong in Christ, heeding His Holy Spirit in sanctification, that have varying biblical views on the non essentials.

We see through a glass dimly lit. Praise God He has lit it up for us to see Jesus at all through it!

Added David I do agree with you concerning a huge deception coming brother. I see an anti-Christ coming in bodily form to proclaim Himself as god to us. I also see Christ coming in the clouds later on after the deception. Those close to Christ will preserver though through the deception no matter eschatological belief, because Christ is their foundation. Christ can change our conceptions, and the Holy Spirit will not let us look unto the Anti-Christ as unto Christ. If we be listening to the Holy Spirit, if He lives within us.

T
TMK

David ””. according to the Left Behind books there will be a Tribulation Force that opposes antichrist and evangelizes the world.

What better authority than that?

D

/Because their foundation is in Christ brother./

That is a given.

/I would wager their are many strong Christians, strong in Christ, heeding His Holy Spirit in sanctification, that have varying biblical views on the non essentials./

I hear what you are saying, but I don't see the New Testament teaching a view that the coming of Christ and the timing of the rapture is a non essential. Throughout church history, there was no confusion on this matter until the 1830s when the new and novel teaching first began appearing that the church will escape the events occurring at the time of the end.

What spiritual logic or divine sense is there in the view that, no matter how diligently God sanctifies His church and prepares them for the time just preceding the end of this present evil age that it all will be of no real value to a lost world because the one voice most anointed to proclaim the gospel during this time will be suddenly caught away before it begins.

Why prepare and train firemen to fight fires if they are never going to have to fight fires? Why prepare a ranger for combat if he is never going to have to face combat? Why prepare the church to be a end time witness if they are not even going to be here during the end time?

David I agree, we can point those who become regenerate, born agian to Matthew 24, Luke 21, Mark 13, 2 Thessalonians chapter 2, Revelation 12 Ect

Those who have a foundation already laid though. Our words will not change their minds, it is the Spirit alone who can accomplish that work. Now when these things happen those who have eyes to see will through the Spirit change their direction.

Dear brother for years I fought trying to show others through the Bible what our Lord had shown me within His word concerning the great delusion. I found it fruitless for the most part. I found I myself with such intense focus on coming events, had been slowly removed from true devotion to my Lord. I found no peace only division. That is just my experience.

May our Lord direct each of us to what He wants from us at this time. There are various ministries within the body, I'm not criticizing your inward desire burning within you concerning the great delusion coming! May our Lord guide each of us in His mercy to what He wants. His will, His work, His way, so we are fruitful through the Spirit for our master.

Hi,
I believe in the rapture and I dont see it as escaping but I realize other people dont believe as I do so thats fine but whether you do or dont I Just want to make one point regarding Cor 15:51 that people get wrong and it doesnt matter on your rapture belief.

The process below no matter what it is or what it turns out to be it is not instantaneous ,I repeat not instantaneous.
Only part of it is instantaneous which the changing from corruptable to incorruptable.Read it again.

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed”” 52in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.…

Why is this important?
Well it means people who are left behind when this event occurs will actually physically see Christians rise in the air for a matter of a minute or even minutes or perhaps longer. Here is the proof that it will not be instantaneous.
The two men in white said that Jesus would come back in the same manner i.e it will take a relatively short time but it will be long enough to be viewed.

Jesus Ascends to Heaven

9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

So it begs the question Why is it important that this process can be viewed or not?

How would you react if you were standing on the beach and a friend of yours started rising up into the air? What I mean is it will have an effect on who is left.

So yes we will all be changed instantly too quick to view but all the rest of the process will take time ,a short time but viewable,

//"Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”//

It says nothing about how the saints will be caught up; it only mentions how Christ will return. The idea of saints slowly rising into the air at the second coming is nowhere in scripture. Not saying it’s impossible but it is speculation. And besides the effect of seeing someone slowly rise into the air vs suddenly disappearing would have similar impact on a witness.

S
staff

Hi TMK,
I am not making the case for the rapture here just stating that is my belief.I am saying all trib views regarding this event are wrong and it is an error of assumption that is important.

Their is no scripture in the bible to say that the saints will go from this world instantaneously ,none.
Their is only scripture to say that the saints will be changed instantly.
We wrongly assume the leaving of this world will be instantaneous. All other translations to heaven were not instantaneous. We have Elijah which was quick but not intantaneous and we have Jesus which was quick but not instantaneous.Enoch we do not have enough information.
On this basis alone we can say that any translations from earth to heaven were not instantaneous.
One other interesting footnote I would link is that when the graves were open and saints appeared to people and they were on the way to heaven and were seen.
Also we can see that in this event rapture or ressurection depending on your view that their was a clear orderly process
1 The dead in Christ rise first
2 Then those who are here when he comes
If it were instantaneous then Paul would not have to explain the order,he would say we will all meet him in the air whether you are dead or alive.
3The return of Christ will be the same manner as his first translation which is quick but not instantaneous.
4.All recorded translations from Earth to Heaven were seen

So its not speculation ,as any biblical examples of translation are of a quick translation but not instantaneous and the biblical record shows that the translations from Earth to Heaven were seen.

One footnote is that it seems very important to God that this ressurection is orderly,

Hi all,
I almost forgot this important example of ressurection and translation.
The two witnesses are seen ,seen standing on their feet and they are seen by their enemies going up to heaven! These are quick but not instantaneous.

11 But after the three and a half days the breath[b] of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. 12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, "Come up here.” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, while their enemies looked on.
