"Discipline, for the Christian, begins with the body. We have only one. It is this body that is the primary material given to us for sacrifice. We cannot give our hearts to God and keep our bodies for ourselves." - Elisabeth Elliot

"Today, even amongst Christians, there can be found much of that spirit that wants to give as little as possible to the Lord, and yet to get as much as possible from Him. The prevailing thought today is of being used, as though that were the one thing that mattered. That my little rubber band should be stretched to the very limit seems all important. But this is not the Lord's mind. The Lord wants us to be used, yes; but what He is after is that we pour all we have, ourselves, to Him, and if that be all, that is enough." - Watchman Nee

Young people, you are the first generation who think that in order to reach your age you've got to become like your culture to become relevant to your culture. "You probably know the illustration of Fact, Faith and Experience walking

The gospel message that encourages people to approach salvation as a commodity or a possession rather than as a result of their relationship with the Father is a damnable heresy, and must be forsaken by everyone who believes in it before they can enter the Kingdom of God. The Bible says that the Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. If a person has a REAL, PROPER relationship with Jesus, they will live in righteousness, peace and joy.

"While extremely sensitive as to the slightest approach to slander, you

their desire to speak evil of no one, actually uphold and speak well of

This is a great quote, Greg!

BTW, have you ever thought of compiling all of these quotes into book form (or eBook form)?

I began to do this a few years ago. However, the "trade paperback" format (via both In Design and Word) with quotes and an index grew to nearly 600 pages.

Still, it would be great to see a eBook or bound collection of these wonderful quotes!

"The sinner's prayer is the golden calf of modern evangelicalism." ~ Paul Washer

I say no person has repented until he or she has brought himself or herself to feel he or she killed the Savior. I don’t believe any person has repented who would rather be happy than holy. We are living in the gloomiest age of the Church, and yet the Church is seeking happiness avidly, and not finding it, because she’s not looking for it in the right place. As long as a person would rather be happy than holy, he or she is an unrepentant man. As soon as this realization hits our conscience, we don’t care whether we are happy or not. We need to be hit with our conscience, smitten, wounded within, until contrition becomes a part of our life.

A.W. Tozer

In his (Paul’s) epistles, there are references, how he was the least of all Christians and the worst of all apostles, because of his sins. In this happy, happy age – this age of cheap, infantile giggling, we want to get repentance over with so we can have fun. Oh, my God, wound us; wound us with the wound of contrition so we’ll never quite get over it, so we always will carry around with us the knowledge that we’ve been sinners and never forget that we’ve been sinners.

Let us, then, not only call Him Lord, for that will not save us. For He saith, "Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall be saved, but he that worketh righteousness." Wherefore, brethren, let us confess Him by our works, by loving one another, by not committing adultery, or speaking evil of one another, or cherishing envy; but by being continent, compassionate, and good. We ought also to sympathize with one another, and not be avaricious. By such works let us confess Him, and not by those that are of an opposite kind. And it is not fitting that we should fear men, but rather God. For this reason, if we should do such [wicked] things, the Lord hath said, "Even though ye were gathered together to me in my very bosom, yet if ye were not to keep my commandments, I would cast you off, and say unto you, Depart from me; I know you not whence ye are, ye workers of iniquity." - Clement

"We all understand eternal wrath, eschatological wrath, calamitous wrath...But there's this other category of the wrath of abandonment, it is a form of God's wrath in which He lets go of a society and lets it catapult full speed without restraint in the direction of its own sinful desires and devices and choices...

The first thing you look for in a society you're trying to discern whether God has abandoned that society is whether or not that society has gone through a sexual revolution so that illicit sex, adultery, every form of immorality is accepted as normal in that society. And we're there."

"What is soulish? Soulish is that which is done by oneself. And what is spiritual? It is that which is done by God. And these two are radically different. A person can do something without any need for waiting upon God and trusting in Him. Such action is fleshly and it is soulish. But if a person cannot speak before God speaks, cannot move except God moves first; if he must look to God, wait and depend on Him, then that person and that action are spiritual. Let us thus ask ourselves if all we do is in the Holy Spirit." - Watchman Nee

Rom 5:12 - Oswald Chambers - with *emphasis & note for clarity -

The Bible does not say that God punished the human race for one man's sin; but that the 'disposition' of sin, viz., *my claim to my right to myself*, entered into the human race by one man, and that another Man took on Him the sin of the human race and put it away (Heb 9:26) -- an infinitely profounder revelation.
**The disposition of sin is not immorality and wrong-doing, but the disposition of self-realization -- "I am my own god."**
This disposition may work out in decorous morality or in indecorous immorality, but it has the one basis, my claim to my right to myself.
When Our Lord faced men with all the forces of evil in them, and men who were clean living and moral and upright, He did not pay any attention to the moral degradation of the one or to the moral attainment of the other; *He looked at something we do not see, viz., the disposition*.

[Note: "the disposition" is my claim to my right to myself - "I am my own god" - whether lving morally or immorally.

"Beloved brothers and sisters, the Day of the Lord is at hand. That Man of Sin, the son of perdition, is soon to be revealed. The fearful scene of Rev 13 is beginning to unfold before us. Be patient and faithful if you are to conquer. While the Beast will control the world and the world receiving his mark will marvel at the Beast and worship him, we can easily identify his mark. Our insignia is the cross. Their insignia is a metamorphosed cross. Do you see it? Without this mark no one can buy or sell. No one can take any profit. So, brothers and sisters, if there are still among you those who love the world with it’s' money and fame, when the world will worship the Beast you will be caught in it. Prepare to suffer in the steps of our Savior, who left behind Him footprints of suffering that those who love His appearing may follow in His steps." - John Sung

I know, through experience, about complete surrender. Years ago, when I was a prisoner of Adolf Hitler and his followers, I had to surrender my will completely. During the time I as a prisoner, I could not decide anything myself. I just had to obey. But we have to surrender to someone else - to God, who is love. He is not a dictator; He is a loving Father. There is no limit to what He wi8ll do for us, no end to His blessings, if we surrender to Him. Surrender is trusting God. This is what God asks from us. He gives a deep rest after we surrender.

"Do not make the mistake of assuming that Samson was some kind of flash-in-the-pan. Twice we read that he judged Israel for a period of twenty years. He was also a very humble man and humility is very rare among men. Especially is this so among those who are outstanding in some field of human endeavor. Had Samson lived today he would have been known around the world. He actually killed a lion with his bare hands, but the record says that he did not even tell his father or his mother (Judges 14:6). Later on, when passing by the same way, he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion. He found a swarm off bees in the carcass took some of the honey and went back to the path and gave it to his father and mother. He still did not tell them the story of what had happened. In both cases, they were traveling with him, but he, being young and strong, was well out in front of his parents. "The world and the church's needs are greater then ever, and so are the opportunities. The stage is set for possibly the greatest advancement in missions the church has ever known. Political upheavals have opened the door to countries that were previously closed, and all the great "ism's" of secular man have fallen under the weight of their own error. Humanism has left our world disillusioned and cynical. Secular thought has left it soulless and empty. Materialism has left both the "haves" and the "have not's" miserable and constantly at war. Sexual libertarianism has raped the individual of human dignity, exiled beauty, and driven a knife through the heart of innocence. Finally, the current revival of paganism has left men praying to rocks, hugging trees, and killing babies. The enlightenment of the twentieth century, which was to bring peace and prosperity has spawned more ignorance, poverty, immorality, and violence then any scholar could have predicted or any prophet could have foretold. "In the Scriptures, many graphic and striking descriptions of hell are given. Whether they are to be taken as literal or not has been a long-standing debate even among conservative scholars. Is hell a place of literal fire and darkness, of brimstone and smoke? If someone denies a literal interpretation of these descriptions with the purpose of diminishing the sufferings of the wicked in hell, they are to be dismissed. However, it is acceptable to hold these descriptions to be figurative in the sense that they are an attempt to describe something so terrifying that it goes beyond the capacity of the human mind to conceive and beyond the power of our human language to communicate. To describe the terrors of hell, the biblical writers used the greatest terrors known to man on earth, but one can be assured that hell is worse than anything found on earth. Fire and darkness, brimstone and smoke are only a feeble attempt to describe a reality far more terrifying than even these words can convey. In the same way that the glories of heaven cannot be comprehended by the human mind or communicated through human language, the terrors of hell are beyond our comprehension and ability to describe." - Paul Washer

"John Wesley never lowered himself to preach miracles once in his life. But the miracles that followed John Wesley's ministry were unbelievable. On one instance he had to make an engagement, and his horse fell lame and could not travel. Wesley got down on his knees beside his horse and prayed for its healing. Then he got back up and rode, without the horse limping, to where he was going. He did not publicize the miracle and say, "We'll have a big tent here and advertize it." God just did those things for him. While C. H. Spurgeon did not preach healing, he had more people delivered in answer to his prayer than any doctor in London. Those are the kinds of miracles I am talking about." - A.W. Tozer
