I have a question which asked on another part of the forum which I maybe should ask here. It seems that we as Christians tend to focus more on the sin of homosexuality (I'm not condoning it for it is a sin) than any other sin. Could it be because that is what is covered most by the media, or is it something else? Are we as adamant against other things such as fornication, adultery, stealing, lying, cheating etc or do we focus on homosexuality because it is not a sin that we commit? Should we not also be equally critical of our own lives and be equally conscious of our own sins?any thoughts?

Because it is one of the few sins that God calls an "abomination". Websters dictionary describes that as "extreme disgust and hatred". It is why God utterly destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah from the face of the earth. It makes a mockery of God's creation (man and woman), and makes a mockery of His example of Christ's relationship to the church (marriage). But the answer is not to go kill gays, or beat them to a pulp. We should show them the way to the Lord just as we would anyone else.Does that help?Krispy

Is it not hypocritical to condemn someone else's in while refusing to deal with your own?

Is it not hypocritical to condemn someone else's in while refusing to deal with your own?Absolutely. As long as we live, tho, we will struggle with sin. The key is... we have to be humble enough to admit it. We cant condemn someone else's sin while justifying our own. But we also can not let our own weaknesses keep us from witnessing to others. If anything, we can use our weaknesses to show others how forgiving God is... if you understand what I mean.Krispy

If anything, we can use our weaknesses to show others how forgiving God is... if you understand what I mean. Indeed you are correct. It seems to me that it is a fine line we must walk, condemning sin wherever it may be, in others or ourselves, I think dealing with sin in the latter is harder...Lately God has been making me more aware of my own sins and the importance of the confession of them. It's easier for Him to deal with them when I say what they are and it is quite liberating indeed.

James and John (Sons of Thunder),I agree with you brother... we as the American church people do focus way too much on homosexuality and the condemnation of those practicing it. And it is a sin, no doubt. As is greed- and the apostle Paul spoke just as harshly if not more harsh towards greed as he did homosexuality.Ezekiel 16:49. "Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me."On top of all this, I have heard it said that the church in its treatment of homosexuals is "Beating up those already wounded." Probably 95% of homosexuals that I have met are victims of severe abuse or mistreatment. These folks are already wounded by society. Are these not the very people Jesus would have dined with or been annoited by? I think the state of the church's relationship with the least of these can be measured by the likelihood that those shunned by society would feel inclined to run to us for help with full faith that they would be received full of grace and truth. We have the truth thing down, but woe to us Lord if we practice the latter while leaving the former undone!Grace and peace to you.

Ironman,You have a valid question, and have made some interesting points. I have asked the same questions, and have more or less been rebuked for doing so. It “seems” the only time I ever hear the word (abomination) is in reference to Homosexuality. In my little part of the world (Missouri and Kansas) not unlike other States, it is a hot-topic always guaranteed to arouse fierce dialog. Just this week as I departed a local shopping center I picked up a free local newspaper(I use that word generously) it is touted as an “alternative” paper, what caught my attention on the front cover was a woman with a Bible in her mouth!!The article dealt with the Kansas Senate deciding that the State should be allowed to vote on this issue of gay marriage. The reporter who is sympathetic to the gay marriage issue made the statement “Christians actually believe that marriage is under attack from gay people-- instead of from half the straight people who currently abuse the privilege.” This statement according to my limited research has been identified by the Barna Research Group, in their studies they have written:The data showed that the highest divorce rates were found in the Bible Belt. "Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama and Oklahoma round out the Top Five in frequency of divorce...the divorce rates in these conservative states are roughly 50 percent above the national average" of 4.2/1000 people. ]Barna's results verified findings of earlier polls: that conservative Protestant Christians, on average, have the highest divorce rate, while mainline Christians have a much lower rate. They found some new information as well: that atheists and agnostics have the lowest divorce rate of all. George Barna commented that the results raise "questions regarding the effectiveness of how churches minister to families." The data challenge "the idea that churches provide truly practical and life-changing support for marriage." And so my point is, the mockery is not only coming from the Homosexual community. Not by a long shot!!Allow me to include the thoughts of a former lesbian, after accepting Christ and her difficulty with “church people”,I wish christians would stop totem poling sins and treat everybody alike. They tend to put homosexuals on the bottom when it comes to being concerned about them, and on top of the pole when it comes to judging them as hopeless. I get tired of christians accepting converted adulters, prostitutes, alcoholics, maturbators, and then recoiling like vipers when homosexuals seek help. They seem on the verge of throwing up when they talk to me; they watch my every move; they eyeball and analyze me, looking for errors. They can’t forget my past, as if Jesus came into the world to save everybody but homosexuals. No wonder sin is driven underground. No wonder people with life-controlling habits tend to react violently. These troubled souls are degraded; scorn is heaped upon them by a Church that wants nothing to do with queers and faggots. We are so offended by their practices, we have made their sin so scandalous, we turn them into outcasts with no hope of return.” Let me conclude by asking, are we reaching the homosexual with the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Are we seeing lives transformed by the power of God? Or, are we so disgusted by the sin that we are ignoring the need?I am not sure, In Christ, tony

Ezekiel 16:49. "Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me."I have looked at this verse many times. To me it shows that homosexuality is not the most detestable thing- it's the roots of it. The roots of our sins (including homosexuality) is pride, loving comfort more than what is right, and not caring about others. If you look at it like this you can see that these "root" sins are apparent insomeone who has adopted the homosexual lifestyle. - but- you can also see these root sins in someone in bondage to anything else as well. Because it is one of the few sins that God calls an "abomination". ... It is why God utterly destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah from the face of the earth.I'm sorry but I would have to disagree with these statements above. First, there are many specific abominations mentioned in the Bible but all unrighteousness is an abomination before our righteous, holy, and just Lord; For all that do such things, [and] all that do unrighteously, [are] an abomination unto the LORD thy God. (Deuteronomy 25:16)Also, Sodom's sin and reason for destruction are explained in Ezekiel;Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw [good]. (Ezekiel 16:49-50)Certainly their sexual immorality can be considered as a part of the abomination Sodom committed but first on that list in Ezekiel are, pride, idleness, and lovelessness.Homosexuality sure is a hot topic these days and I believe that is because it is one the the biggest tools satan is using to mock the institution of marriage and the family which things are ordained by God and pictures of our relationship with Him. Also, it is an issue that we are already seeing as being used to silence Christian witness in public places, the Philadelphia trial comes to mind. In Christ,Ron

I don't disagree with all that has been said thus far, yet I see this question in a different way. We all accept the truth that adultery, stealing, lying, and murder are sin. We all stumble in sin. But there is something more to the debate that is raging in America pretaining to the acceptance of homosexuality. The Gay and Lesbian movement is working to ligitimize their behavior. They are working to promote the idea that living that lifestyle is not sinful. They want their lifestyle to be accepted as normal. This is the crux of the battle. God hates divorce, yet look how through the years of promoting divorce, it has been accepted by the vast majority of the Christian world. The Gay and Lesbian agenda will lead to the same manifestations. Christian world, isn't that an oxymoron? In ChristJeff

TonySThe data showed that the highest divorce rates were found in the Bible Belt. "Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama and Oklahoma round out the Top Five in frequency of divorce...the divorce rates in these conservative states are roughly 50 percent above the national average" of 4.2/1000 people. Now we seem to be getting deeper into the issue, right at something which is key here. The divorce rate is something like 50%, why?1) people do not seek God and let Him find the perfect spouse for you2) people have a wrong perception of what marriage is in the 1st place and when they are disappointed, they quit.3) when trials come people don't wait on God to empower them to deal with the trials. Now when Christians marriages are in such a state it becomes SOO easy for the enemy to further pervert the sanctity of marriage. I mean is our divorce rate is 50% or better, on what grounds can we say that gay marriage destroys the sanctity of marriage? We have already done incredible damange to that because we ourselves have not obeyed. I mean we fornicate which has spiritual consequences (as well as physical) which are long-lasting. We may be forgiven but there are just some consequences that we just have to deal with afterward. If we can't get marriage right by obeying God in it, then how can we hope to correct others? It just can't work. I wish christians would stop totem poling sins and treat everybody alike. We are so offended by their practices, we have made their sin so scandalous, we turn them into outcasts with no hope of return.”Christ said "whatsoever you do unto the least of your brothers you have done to me" did he not? Now let us be clear that we are to condemn sin wherever it may be. We must start with ourselves and also we must NEVER neglect our own need for cleansing. We must also remember that we too have sinned and been forgiven, how then can be be unforgiving to others? If ever I am tempted to harbour resentment or contemplate being unforgiving, I think on that and I am humbled. I remember what God has forgiven me for and I feel compelled to share that same forgiveness with others. The Lord's prayer says "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trepass against us" God will forgive us accoring to the same measure of forgiveness we choose to show others.

"They want their lifestyle to be accepted as normal"Homosexual behaviour occurs throughout the animal kingdom, not just in humans. This is evidence that it is genetic in some cases. Why would God make people predisposed to sin?Granted many homosexual people became that way from abuse. And it definately should not be promoted as a healthy normal lifestyle. But if you get real, homosexuality garners such approbation because it scares people.bub

Chanin (is that another way of spelling shannon? just curious...) have looked at this verse many times. To me it shows that homosexuality is not the most detestable thing- it's the roots of it. The roots of our sins (including homosexuality) is pride, loving comfort more than what is right, and not caring about others.Yes indeed, if we focus on the symptoms (we should deal with these by the way) the solution is temporary. We must also tackle the root of sin, pride. From pride comes, disobedience which is the rejection of the precepts of God. Pride says "I don't need God or His precepts, I can do whatever I wish without consequence) We need to kill that beast first and then dealing with the symptoms will be much easier. one can cut a tree down but if it still has working roots it can regrow, but if you somehow poison the roots, that takes away the source of the tree's sustinence thereby killing it.

Homosexual behaviour occurs throughout the animal kingdom, not just in humans. This is evidence that it is genetic in some cases. Why would God make people predisposed to sin?The enemy's whole mission is to pervert what God has created by whatever means necessary. It may or may not include causing animals to be that way also though I would not put it past him. It is not evidence that it is genetic at all, in fact there is no such evidence. Now there are some speculations out there all of which have yet to be substantiated. Being someone trained in science I also know that you can make the number say whatever you want them to.Originally God did not make us sinful, He gave us free will. Satan came and tempted Eve and she could have said "no, leave me alone" she chose not to and ate the fruit. Adam also had the same choice and he chose unwisely. The consequence of that was that we would all be more likely to disobey God in a given situation.

Homosexual behaviour occurs throughout the animal kingdom, not just in humans. This is evidence that it is genetic in some cases. Why would God make people predisposed to sin?First off... we are not part of the animal kingdom. To believe that you have to believe Darwinism, and reject Genesis. Now... I have a personal belief, and that is that we are all have a penchant for some sort of sin more than another. In other words, some struggle with homosexuality, some struggle with lying. Some struggle with alcohol (that was me) and some stuggle with stealing. A lot of it has to do with the environment we grow up in. But either way, we all have some "thorn in our side". Does God ALLOW people to be born with a slant toward being gay? I don't know. (I doubt it because of all the gays I've known, every one of them grew up in a similar environment that would tend to cause that type of behavior.) There is no proof that it's genetic, therefore it is ONLY A THEORY.But genetic or not, the Bible still calls it sin, and therefore... it is a sin. I don't care if Simba has the hots for another male lion in the pride... in humans, it's a sin.Krispy

Homosexual behaviour occurs throughout the animal kingdom, not just in humans. This is evidence that it is genetic in some cases. Why would God make people predisposed to sin?I believe this argument is simply an attempt to justify immoral behavior without really studying the issue closely. How do you know animals practice homosexuality? Because you see Rover mounting another male dog does that mean homosexuality is natural?Think about this for a second. If you ever had a male dog, you know that they don't just mount other male dogs. They also mount sofas, and trees, and will mount the leg of your house guests if you're not careful. This is not homosexual behavior. This is auto-eroticism.The only way one could show this behavior was homosexual is if one could demonstrate that the dog was desiring the male gender of the animal he was mounting. One can't conclude from the observed activity alone that any animal has homosexual desires . This is just another example of a hasty judgment. In Christ,Ron

In this world we all want to be something and killing pride would mean we would have to become nobody (ouch) What do you think?I know this is kind of getting off the subject of Homosexuality but....Yes, it seems every person is born with this need to be "somebody". But if they are not taught that we are "somebody" important to God- and that is all that matters- then they'll seek it somewhere else. They'll seek to be important to others- in whatever way they can. When i was driven by the need to be somebody important- i had to realize that being important and loved by the Lord was enough. We all need to be willing to be "nobody" for God. To be His vessel to use however HE pleases.Yet on the other hand- when we get to this point of accepting this- we need to also believe it's ok to "be somebody" for Him- if that is what he has called us to. if He has called us to do something publically (after we realize that we do not deserve it or we don't really desire it above just knowing Christ alone).I don't know if that makes nay sense. I just mean there is a balance between humility and not wanting to get the spot light in anyway. That is the Lord's choice for us, not oursIn Him, Chanin/Shannon :)

He wants us to remember that we are fallible but more importantly He wants us to RUN to Him. When Paul had that thorn in his flesh he sought God very diligently which is what God desires of us. That is the only way we can be freed from the affliction. It's purpose is to make us run to God but all to often the enemytakes hold of it and uses it to drive a wedge between us and God.

If homosexuality is genetic (in other words: natural) why does the Word of Creator God say this?Ro:1:26-32 "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections, for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful. Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."I'm gonna solidify my position. I stated in an earlier post that I dont know if God ALLOWS people to be born gay... genetics or otherwise. Well, after reading scripture... I have to change my position and say that no one is born gay. The Bible says that "God gave them over to a reprobate mind". That means they knew it was wrong, but they refused to listen to God, so He let them have what they want... and the end result is death, unless before they stop breathing they repent of the sin of homosexuality.Lord, let us all treat anyone who struggles with this sin with dignity and love... and may we be able to be your mouthpiece to convict them of Your Law, and bring them to repentence thru your Holy Spirit... God hates divorce, yet look how through the years of promoting divorce, it has been accepted by the vast majority of the Christian world. The Gay and Lesbian agenda will lead to the same manifestations. I posted this article before. It bears witness to what you just stated.http://newark.rutgers.edu/~lcrew/assay49.htmlThe thing is and many people get mad at me for pointing this out----Christians, that is----we have sanctioned adultery going on in MOST of the churches today, yet the majority of churches remain SILENT about unbiblical remarriages Jesus called adultery. Yes, many talk about divorce, and that God hates it, but ignore the bigger issue---unbiblical remarriage/adultery. We are filled with so much hypocrisy. The lost cannot help but call us on it. It seems to me that so many Christians are way too concerned about cleaning up the unsaved world(who are just doing what comes natural). My husband saw this article at work (USA Today) and cut it out as he thought of me when reading it........on the topic of the Brad/Jen split. A writer states: "Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston split up. Big deal. I am gay and used to want the right to marry. Not anymore. I refuse to hear arguments any longer from heterosexuals who say that permitting me to marry would unravel the "moral fabric" of our country. Straight people have lost credibility when they argue that point, for how could the world's most beautiful couple, who seemed to have it all, ever possibly want a divorce?"Should we call homosexuality what it is----a sin? Yes, absolutely, but let's not just stop there. Let's lay all the sins on the table and deal with them and purge ourselves from our own sins, so the world which is dying can see real LIFE come forth. When I see talk on homosexuality within the Christian community, there is such a ferociousness and lack of CHRIST'S love toward those who are perishing in this one sin. Dobson comes out against them, the American family Association comes out against them, etc, etc. All trying to "christianize" the world from the outside in. O- and let us not forget the even the deeper subjects. There is adultery (that we can see) and then there is heart adultery and heart idolatry.Christians have "other loves" and it is not always a person. I will be the first one to admit that i have committed adultery in my heart (not with another person but a thing or myself (loving myself and my wants more than God)) and that makes me no better than one who has committed adultery with another person. God looks on the heart. He sees the issues of the heart.Remember Jesus said that not only is adultery just "being with another person", but it is of the heart (if someone looks on another woman with lust he commits adultery). How much more do we commit adultery when we hang onto our "other loves' because we think we just have to have it, we just want it. How much more do we lust after something and do not see it.Lust: to greatly desire, to long with desire, to crave or hunger forIn Him, chanin

Notice please that I don’t mean that a true Christian is perfect. I mean to say that the Flesh is Dead. We live in the Spirit and we are dead to the evil of the Flesh. The law convicts and if it does not convict then we are without the Spirit and if we are without the Holy Spirit then we are not living in Christ and so we are not Christians. Therefore a Man who leaves his wife or commits a theft etc, is not a christian.I know you may have a hard time believing this but it is truth. I tried to divorce my wife I was not a Christian at the time. I would venture to say that 80% of all people that say they are Christian are not.So when a real Christian says he is going to the lost he means the world including that 80% of fakers. You're right Chanin. EVERY sin begins in the heart. Some of these sins then become outwardly expressed. Some of these sins remain "hidden". bubbaguy wrote:Homosexual behaviour occurs throughout the animal kingdom, not just in humans. This is evidence that it is genetic in some cases. Why would God make people predisposed to sin?Even if we considered that homosexuality is genetic (which we can safely eliminate, by reading other posts), this does not condone homosexual behaviour. Psychiatrists tell us that bi-polar disorder (aka schitzophrenea) is a genetic conditon past from our parents. This can also be acquired through the use of certain drugs (eg, amphetamines and canabis). This can be related to the argument that homosexuality can be genetic, or the result of abuse.Bi-polar people tend to be delusional and behave rather irrationally (for a good example check out the movie "A Beautiful Mind" with Russell Crowe - Having personally suffered a drug induced pschosis in the psat, I found this movie highly accurated in it's interpretation). Some sufferers (although not very common) can become homocidal, as the believe that they have "voices in their head" telling them to commit theses crimes. Perhaps they believe that "God is telling them to cleanse the world of impure people", or perhaps they believe that their victims mean them harm. Whatever the reason, we cannont condone the actions of these people on the basis of their genetic condition. It wouldn't even be an alternative to lock all the bi-polar sufferers in their own little island to live out their delusional lives away from "sane people". The only rational answer is treatment.I watched a TV show a couple of nights ago, where there were three homosexuals who were attacked in a park by homophobes, for "expressing their homosexuality". Two died in hospital, while the other got away unharmed. When this lone survivor heard that his friends were dead, he was given the opportunity to say his goodbyes. What he said chilled me to the bone, "I never knew I was gay before I met you." Homosexual conduct cannot be condoned, because there are always going to be people affected who aren't homosexaul already. As Ron has already stated, a male dog mounting another male dog, proves only a desire to ejaculate (okay, I put it a little cruder, but why "pretty up" an ugly thing). Homosexuality is based on fulfilling a sexual urge. If a homosexual were to fall for a heterosexual, then logically he would want to "convert him" (just as if a heterosexual male fell for a lesbian, he would want to turn her back). Friendships between people of the same sex promotes companionship. Homosexuality takes this friendship and adds sinful conduct into the mix.The reality is, we are called to live "in the world but not of the world". We need to be sure the life we live is sumbitted to God's ways, and not the worlds. We are not called to obey every single precept or burn in hell, but we are commanded to "be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind". It is logical, by the worlds standards for us to be homosexual. After all, it would be easier to pleasure someone of the same sex, because we share the same sex organs. We know what pleasures us, so we would be able to pleasure our partners in the same way. But we are not to "be conformed to this world". God says in His word, "Don't do it!!" It doesn't matter what the reasons are, we need to be "transformed by the renewing of our mind".We've dealt with is issue before BTW. Check out this forum about Tony Campolo's stance on homosexuality.Peace.

Ron wrote:Homosexuality sure is a hot topic these days and I believe that is because it is one the the biggest tools satan is using to mock the institution of marriage and the family which things are ordained by God and pictures of our relationship with Him.I wanted to bring this up once again, for I think this is why satan is so eager to devistate "marriage" and "relationship" as God intended them to be.God created man and woman. Christ's relationship with His Church is compared with the relationship between a man and woman within a marriage (Ephesians 5:22-33).Today I spoke with a colleague of mine...I don't know how we came to it, but someone asked: "What's your biggest mistake ever?". With a laugh she replied: "To marry". That hit me and I asked something about the background of it. She's now divorced and has another boyfriend and kids from her other marriage. Satan tries to deform or destroy every "picture" that is meant to reflect Christ. Marriage. Music. Joy. Relationships....Christians.While driving back to my home I thought: "Why is it, that churches don't disappear? Why is it that they are being filled every sunday?". In the first place: God has told us, that in the last days these times will/would come. The second reason is probably that satan can do more harm with damaging it, than destroying it. But praise be to God: nothing can prevail against the Church (with capital "C") of Jesus Christ! In our great and only Saviour,Paul

Straight people have lost credibility when they argue that point, for how could the world's most beautiful couple, who seemed to have it all, ever possibly want a divorce?you know I read your post and you're aboslutely right. If we as Christians had been more serious about our father's business, people would not be messing with us about anything. If people had fortitude enough to come out and preach on how Christ said that we are to be holy as God us holy, and if people would preach the WHOLE word as opposed to the parts they like maybe we would be in a better position to rebuke the homosexuals about wanting to marry. We ourselves have defiled marriage before God and are refusing to do anything about it.

Christians have "other loves" and it is not always a person. I will be the first one to admit that i have committed adultery in my heart (not with another person but a thing or myself (loving myself and my wants more than God)) and that makes me no better than one who has committed adultery with another person. God looks on the heart. He sees the issues of the heart.chaninnow that admission is not one that is easy to make...noone likes being told that they messed up, let alone admit it to himself...

Satan tries to deform or destroy every "picture" that is meant to reflect Christ. Marriage. Music. Joy. Relationships....Christians.Satan tried to destroy the church at it's inception by brutal tribulation and that did not work. He then switched to a more subtle approach and infiltrated the church with things like santa claus, the easter bunny etc, things which are beningn enough but their purpose is to distract us from God. Satan has masterfully and very successfully crippled the church by entering it and eating out it's core like a boreworm.

Quote 'why would God make man predisposed to sin'He doesn't. It is the fallen state of man unless he comes to Jesus and gets born again.Matthew 15:19For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies
