2 of the most intense Ravenhill quotes

S

I wanted to share these quotes by Leonard Ravenhill. They are probably the most hardcore and intense quotes I've ever heard outside of the bible. “I don’t believe there is a man on the whole TV that preaches salvation. They preach forgiveness. Forgiveness is not salvation. They point out “there’s a man in bed with some other mans wife in a Motel’. “Oh you know the Lord loves you just as you are.” Well then why get changed? Commit adultery as much as you like. He still loves you. Be a cheat, be a liar, be a thief, and be a failure. He still loves you. But there’s a scripture. Isn’t it the Psalms 7….where it says “God is angry with the wicked every day.” I heard somebody quote today “God loves you but hates your sin” that’s bunken. God hates you for committing the sin. Is God going to take your sins and judge them at the Judgment and leave you alone?” Leonard Ravenhill “Finney never made an altar call within the first twenty eight nights of preaching. Most of our evangelists don’t have twenty eight sermons. Twenty eight nights in a row and he never made an altar call. He didn’t preach the love of God. He didn’t say “you’re a sinner, God loves you.” He said “God is angry with the wicked every day” (Ps 7:11) which the Word of God says. He didn’t preach grace, he preached Law. He didn’t preach love, he preached judgment. He didn’t preach heaven, he preached hell. He didn’t say “you’re a wonderful person” he said “you’re a rebel”. But he got results. 64% of D. L. Moodys converts backslid, 72% of the converts Finney got stood because he knew how to attack the human will, not just the emotions.” Leonard Ravenhill

Yes I've heard these quotes before. They are true. Thats why I like to hear Ravenhill, He had so much wisdom. It always pushes me to the prayer closet when I hear him.

God is angry with the wicked every day, that's for sure...but "for God so loved the world"... and "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."i heard Ray Comfort also saying it in the video of Hells Best Kept Secret, where someone replied to him saying "God loves the person, but hates the sin", he returned saying something like "where did you read that? it's not biblical"and now with the thread of Jesse (thanks by the way bro) it came into my mind again.Gods "hate vs love" toward the sinner, that's what i can't understand, so please a little help:-)

This is where the little phrase Paul used, "behold, the kindness and severity of God." However, anger is not opposed to love. My parents have often been angry with me, but that does not mean they did not love me just the same. The most intense saying I heard Ravenhill use was: "let me tell you lovingly: go to hell. If you want to get drunk, go with the drunkards, if you want to lust, go with the prostitutes."

But he got resultsI have to wonder, is this what it has come down to? Results. we just want results? :-o This does not seem to go along with what Jesus preached when he was on earth. Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't it be better to stick to the words of someone like Jesus instead of a man like Finney or Ravenhill (even though they both were called of God for their purpose).I don't recall Jesus saying that He hated people. This disturbs me terribly. There is definitely a need for repentance these days- but not just to get "results".In Him, Chanin

thanks KingJimmy :) now it's more clear to meyeah i found it quite strange i taught hmmm how could he say God hates the sinner. but thanks again, i understand it now, it's like how do you think you can receive grace if your not willing to give up your lust and sins and stay in rebellion against God.in Christ, (who resist the pride and gives grace to the humble)WilliamA little add on...came into my mind, i love this quote of Paris Reidhead."they 're going to Hell, not because they haven't heard The Gospel, they're going to Hell because the are sinners who love their sin"

M
moreofHim

If this is true that we should not tell people that God loves them, then what is there to live for? Why wouldn't they just go kill themselves? When I came out of my lukewarmness , it wasn't because i thought God hated me.It was because He showed me how much He did love me but that my sin was disgusting to Him. That i was hurting him and grieving him. I was ashamed and wanted to please Him. So i repented because of His great love that drew me to Him. and I have yet to backslide.Without God's love, what is there? What hope is there? My hope is not that I will go to heaven. my hope is God and his love for me and that he is my everything.

K
KingJimmy

But he got results. 64% of D. L. Moodys converts backslid, 72% of the converts Finney got stood because he knew how to attack the human will, not just the emotions. One thing I don't like about this is the notion that the quality of the preaching one heard at conversion will determine one's continuing on in the faith. Preaching only leads men to Jesus. If they fall away after they come to believe, it's not Moody or Finney's fault. If somebody has a geniune saving encounter with Christ, then should they fall away, then they are ultimately accountable for that, not the preacher that led them to Christ.

Hi Chanin,What instantly came to mind was; "God gives grace to the humble but resiteth the proud" (Dont have my E-sword in front of me here...)"A broken and contrite spirit..."Jesus had the most 'venom' for who? Not pointed sister, you know me :-) (This is very awkward writing from work)"You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee...""Ye always resist the Holy Spirit"Guess it depends, but it does seem to fit a pattern, breaking the proud and comforting the broken...

Dear friends,I believe the Lord Jesus opened my eyes to something this day. I see the truth falling in the streets. I see false Gospels being preached. I merely hear a word of repentance, sin and hell...and so I was so busy with thinking about what kind of a radical message Jesus would preach (or some sort of that...), until I read the post of Mike on "The wound of compassion"."Where is your compassion?", God seems to ask. Okay, we can't create compassion, but we will need it. If we haven't compassion, we don't understand how serious the matter actually is. It's not about preaching a message of repentance, it's not about displaying my bibleknowledge, it's not about preaching with fire, it's not about drawing huge crowds...it's about lost souls, who live in this world, without hope and without God (Ephesians 2:13). Because of the fact that people don't preach about hell anymore, doesn't mean I only need to preach about hell. Because of the fact that people only preach about the love of God today, doesn't mean that I shouldn't be preaching the TRUE love of God to them...Jesus wasn't a softy. He preached directly and radically...but with a compassion that's incredible! As I said, we can't create compassion, we need to draw it from a close, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. He's "compassion" in Person.Let me quote something to you of this post made by brother Mike: The Wound of CompassionMoody is quoted as having said that no man had the right to preach on Hell except he preach with tears in his eyes. 3 He loved them and pitied them, and so this love and pity, down through the years, has been a stream of Gospel sincerity; it has been the evidence of the indwelling Jesus who wept over Jerusalem and who went out to die.The wound of compassion is a faithful wound, my friend, and I ask that you seriously think about this with me and when you can, pray to God about it.I posted a message from Tozer about this: Three Faithful Wounds. It's about the three wounds we need (contrition, compassion, longing after God). I hope it will bless our souls. May we grow more towards Christ, our sole object! In Christ,Paul

Here are two awesome scriptures:Psalm 5:5 "You hate all workers of iniquity."John 3:16 "For God so loved the world".The first scripture in Psalms refers to the individual. The second scripture in John refers to the world. Both these scriptures are true and make perfect sense when properly understood. God has a holy anger, a righteous indignation towards the individual. Even a holy hatred as Psalm says. Everything the sinner does appalls God. From the sinners wickedness even to his righteous works which are filthy rages offends Him. Everything about the sinner is an abomination to God.However God has a general love for the entire world. "While we were yet sinners Christ died for us". But there is a Fatherly love which he only has for his children. God does not have that same Fatherly love for the children of the devil. Who are the children of the devil? Those who have not repented:1Jo 3:8 - He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 1Jo 3:10 - In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. So there is a condition to the Fatherly love of God. And that is loving Him. If a man loves a women, but she does not love him, then they are not in a loving relationship. Likewise the sinner and God are not in a loving relationship until he forsakes all sin and turns to Him."He that hath My commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me: and he that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him...If a man love Me, he will keep My words: and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our abode with him." -- John 14:21-23 Jed Smock has a small article on this which I thought was pretty good: http://www.brojed.org/godslove.html

Quote:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Something about a nail and a head and hitting it. I think you probably smashed it through the board--------------------------------------------------------------------------------amen!I have to remember that my calling and my passion is to see professing "christians" to repent. When I see people who call themselves christians (and only God knows if their hearts are contrite and pure) calling broken and abused people to repent and telling them that God hates them the way they are- hmmmmmmm , something seems wrong.Obviously my gift is not in evangelism. mine is in discernment and bringing the reality of Christ to "Christians".Though I do believe in spreading the gospel by all means, I tend to do it more with my life and by showing them the love of God through me and showing them how God has had mercy on me who was a disgusting sinner.I have to be realistic here and say that i can't see much past calling christians to repentance. That's where my zeal is, my Godly anger you might say.The christian community is so filled with filth and sin, and these are supposed to be "His" people.Just like the religious of Jesus' day. It reminds me of the same!!!Jesus used very strong words with them. He was obviously very upset with them. Those who thought they were religious and doing what was right.Yet to those who were broken and indeed sinners (prostitutes, etc...) He had compassion on them. When He dealt with people one on one, I see His compassion.Yes, even when he taught that people who sin are of the devil, he did not scream it at them. He stated it and I believe it showed them their nature. There are many "christians" who also do these same sins- and are we to say to them You are of the devil also?Where do you draw the line?In Him, Chanin

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world".The first scripture in Psalms refers to the individual. The second scripture in John refers to the world. Individuals are part of the whole. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.The only aspect of God's love that is conditional (contrary to the Jed Smock article) is intimacy. It is conditioned upon the person giving themselves unto the Lord. Interestingly enough, Smock used an illustration (of a boy chasing a girl) that shows that the only way to intimacy is going to be through the willing participation of both parties. God demonstrated His love though- for each and every single one of us- that Christ died for each and every one of us. This is that "agape" love that the Bible speaks of, that is unconditional. Christ died unconditionally for us, but just because Christ died for each of us, doesn't promise us salvation.

This will most likely be my last post on this subject only not to turn these forums into a place of debates because it has the potential of heading there.. Debates are great, when done at the right time and place. However I am more then willing to email back and forth with anyone who has questions and concerns. This is from my article "The Anger of the Lord":We seem to have it all wrong today! What can the current church do with a scripture like Ps 5:5 that says “God hates all workers of iniquity” considering modern messages? We say “God hates sin but loves the sinner.” So what do you do with Ps 5:5? It certainly throws a wrench into our theological gears. Leonard Ravenhill said in an interview right before he died “the menace of many of our meetings is; we are trying to get people saved who don’t know their lost. ‘Come forward. The Lord loves you. The Lord loves you.’ The Lord hates you! Instead of a bumper stick ‘God loves you’, ‘God is angry with the wicked everyday’ (Ps 7:11) or ‘The wicked shall be turned into hell.’ (Ps 9:17)” That is what a man of God said after roughly 70 years of being in the ministry. No one can deny his experience, so there are some important truths to learn from that quote. I only wish that I could begin to explain the mysteries of God, but I cannot adequately do so. As large ships need large rivers to sail through and can not move in small rivers, the fullness of the truth of God can not be fully comprehended by our shallow minds. Let me appeal to men greater then I to help us understand. In C. H Spurgeon’s “A Treasury of David” he has a quote from William Gurnall for Ps 5:5. William Gurnall (author of Christian in Complete Armor) wrote this, “Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.’ For what God thinks of sin, see Deut vii. 22; Prov. vi.16; Rev. ii. 6,15; where he expresseth his detestation and hatred of it, from which hatred proceeds all those direful plagues and judgments thundered from the fiery mouth of his most holy law against it; nay, not only the work, but worker also of iniquity becomes the object of his hatred.” Spurgeon also put a quote from David Clarkson, B.D. 1621-1686, in his commentaries who said, “Those whom the Lord hates must perish. But he hates impenitent sinners, “Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.” Now, who are so properly workers of iniquity as those who are so eager at it that they will not leave this work, though they be in danger to perish for it? Christ puts it out of doubt. The workers of iniquity must perish. Luke xiii. 27. Those whom the Lord will tear in his wrath must perish with a witness; but those whom he hates, he tears &c. Job xvi. 8. What more due to such impenitent sinners than hatred! What more proper than wrath, since they treasure up wrath? Rom ii. Will he entertain those in the bosom of love whom his soul hates? No; destruction is their portion. Prov. Xxi. 15. If all the curses of the law, all the threatening of the gospel, all the judgments in earth or in hell, will be the ruin of him, he must perish. If the Lord’s arm be strong enough to wound him dead, he must die. Psalms lxviii. 21…… Avoid all that Christ hates. If you love, approve, entertain that which is hateful to Christ, how can he love you? What is that which Christ hates? The psalmist (Psalm xlv. 7) tells us, making it one of Christ’s attributes, to hate wickedness…. as Christ hates iniquity, so the ‘workers of iniquity." You must not love them, so as to be intimate with them, delight in the company of evil doers, openly profane, scorners of godliness, obstructers of the power of it. 2 Cor. vi. 14-18. If you love so near relations to wicked men, Christ will have no relation to you. If you would have communion with Christ in sweet acts of love, you must have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, or those that act them.” Sin and sinners are both opposed to the Lord. God will not only cast sin into the fires of hell, but He Himself will cast sinners into the fires of hell. The Law is opposed to criminals who commit crimes, and are not just opposed to the crimes themselves. Rev. 21:8 says “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” It does not say that “cowardice, murders, fornication, adultery, idolatry, and lies will be tossed into the lake of fire”, but cowards, murderers, fornicators, adulterers, idolaters! You must pull a plant up by the roots or it will grow back again. God goes for the root, not just the branches. Sins are the branches that spring up from the heart of the sinner. If you are outside of Christ, you are in desperate need of a heart transplant because the heart you have now is flooded with the waters of iniquity. It’s too sick to give you life.

I also do not want to debate but I have to say when was the last time that we really looked in the mirror? That we really asked God to shine a light on "our own hearts"- those of us who profess to follow Christ? We say that adulterers and murders, etc.... will be tossed in the lake of fire- but jesus said if you look on a woman with lust that you are the same as an adulterer. That if you have hateful feelings toward your brother, that you are the same as a murderer.Do you not sin? Are you not a sinner? is every single area of your life completely surrendered to the Lord? I mean everything? Does God hate your sin less than someone else out there on the street?Who of us is willing to look in the mirror? Who of us is willing to lay his heart out on the table for all the world to see first before we call others to repentance. In love ( and i do mean that with all that is in me), Chanin

The anger of the Lord that He has shown me, was at His own people. I see it time and time again. In Jeremiah and Hosea and Isaiah, and even in jesus' day (the religious). He is most angry at his own people who claim to be His but do not follow him with their lives.Sorry, just had to add that. :-) each of us have their own areas to serve in i suppose.in His love, Chanin

When I came out of my lukewarmness , it wasn't because i thought God hated me.Jud 1:22-23 And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling [them] out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. I understand this to mean that with some (the humble) show compassion. And with others (pridefull) save with fear (preach law). Its the same message just a different style. Jesus preached the same gospel to the women in adultry as he did to the rich young ruler, just differently. Ofcourse always preach with compassion but I dont belive you should always preach love and forgiveness untill they are ready for it (humble).

quote: "I may be mistaken but I thought I thought the whole purpose of a 'forum' was for debate/discussion. A forum is not a pulpit but a market place."Well, discussions and debating is good. But with an issue such as this "it could get ugly". I would like to see these forums be a place of encouragement and edification, and although debates can be apart of edification, something like this can possibly go beyond. It's ok if you feel differently. Feel free to discuss and debate among yourselves. I am not trying to say none of us should. But I've had many "debates" with other Christians, and would rather avoid the ones that I feel are not absolutely vital.

I would like to see these forums be a place of encouragement and edification, and although debates can be apart of edification, something like this can possibly go beyond. I would not class myself as a old-timer on this site, but one thing I have noticed is that you can only go so far before the whole puts there hand up and says that's enough. I suppose the 'shift' has occured and can occur because Greg is not watching the forum the whole time. It is up to the people who value this ministry and input to by 'genereal concensus' to order and rule. Thats me, thats you, thats everyones whose heart is connected by our hearts desire to see Christ Glorified. So present your view, there are enough sensible forumites to steer the discussion towards mutual edification if not a good case of sharpening. :-D

Hey, first forum statement today. Here it goes. I think it would've been appropriate for morehofhim to specify "Christ-Favored" results from "Lukewarm" or "Modern Fleshly Programs" type of results. I'm positive he knows the difference. It just seems that his statement on "results" was different in his head then what it may be for others. I Like results - God's Way! Who wouldn't? Perhaps then it is appropriate to define "results?" People will say to Jesus (Matt 7:21-23), "Lord, Lord.. results results results." And you all know the rest of that sad but true story. But to the sheep (Matt 25, I think) who also had "results" Jesus says, "Come on up boys! (and girls)" I dig this website.

So YES "he" is a "she" I definitely got that. And yes I have heard that sermon. Actually I chuckled to myself when I read that question, in that, this sermon was first on your list of goodies to share. I have this along with about 50 others burned in WAV format onto CD's. The likes of which are, Conlon, Ravenhill, Wilkerson, and Art Katz. Oh and since I'm brand new, is there a way to check gender before I make replies to posts and make that mistake again. And yes, I have now read the "No slang" rules, hence statements like "I dig this website" probably aren't proper for a wide-cultured audience.

I think the key thing the church is missing is " the anointing of God" I dont know much about moody but i read some stuff about finney and how mightyly anointed in the holy spirit he was. I think ray comfort is right re Hell's best kept secret. But I think he is missing one vital aspect. The endewment of power these men of God had like wesley, witfield, John Sung, and the like where ever they went the Holy spirit convicted of sin righteousness and judjment I think of Johnathan Edwards and people holding on to the pillars for fear they would fall into hell. they preached 90% law alright but it was under the anointing of the holy Spirit. I think of our saviour weeping over Jerusalem longing that they would have turned to him. Oh God! Give us the love of God in Christ, and that old time pentecostal Power

R
RobertW

Oh God! Give us the love of God in Christ, and that old time pentecostal PowerWell, I must say that I believe it is vital to seek the Lord to be anointed for both direction when speaking and anointing. I think Paul would have said, "That utterance may be given unto me that I might open my mouth boldly..." I know as Christians we are already anointed; but I always pray for a special anointing to meet the needs of the people at that time. This is a necessity. Some men prepared their sermons in advance; Finney liked to preach extemporaneously. This means he was, as he called it, "full of the subject" when he got up to speak. I prefer to minister with notes, but can minister without. I am more apt to make little grammer mistakes or minor technical errors without notes. The issue is not how eloquent we sound, but was God glorified through the change of the peoples hearts and lives. it could sound horrible and 10 people repent or sound great and none repent. What would we prefer? Sometimes it just don't happen both ways at once- so I will suffer all the blunders necessary if God is glorified. It's just something you have to get over.God Bless,-Robert

The Bible declares, as you well know that God is a God of love, but one thing I’ve learned from the western culture is that we have a misconception that has permeated in our thoughts on what exactly God’s love is. The main pervasive thought of God is that He loves me no matter what I do (from what I’ve heard), but He is also a God of justice. I believe to fully understand God’s love we must study His name because as Jesus declared in John 17:11, protect them by the power of your name-the name you gave me- so that they may be one as we are one. Jesus’ name actually means Yahweh saves so what does Yahweh mean. The example I’ll be using is taken from (Ex 3) when God was speaking through the burning bush to Moses. Moses proposed a very significant question when he asked, "What shall I tell them your name is?" God’s name there meant many different things and they read as follows… Compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love, love to the 1000’s, forgiving wickedness, forgiving rebellion, forgiving sin. A lot of people stop at those meanings of His name, but it concludes with, “He is a faithful God to the 1000’s of those who love Him and keep His commands, but those who hate Him he will repay to their face by destruction; He will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate Him.” The question then becomes "Who hates God?" The answer could only be those who are His enemy’s and those you are, are the one’s sinning. "But what about when you become a believer and you still sin?" Well, first you go against your new nature in Christ Jesus. Your old nature was sin, but now the old man is dead to sin and everything becomes new. Second, we must understand that we are righteous only because Christ imputed that upon those who believe. We are righteous simply because our position, not our condition. The very reason God should love us because it is in His nature to love. He could at any point let His mercy down on the unregenerate person and let Satan take him to destruction, but His mercy endures to the 1000’s of generations

So I want to comment on the anointing of God that someone brought up. I actually just talked to a team of street preachers about preaching open-air with the anointing. We can get so stuck in a way of doing things and so comfortable with a certain pattern that we don't really even give God room to move.Mr Ravenhill told me a story about Duncan Campbell who had a dream/vision of a street meeting on an island. When he went to see who was preaching he discovered it was the devil leading the street meeting. Afterwards Duncan went up to him and said "What are you doing preaching the Word of God!! Your the devil!" and Satan said to him "Don't you know that the most powerful weapon I have is preaching the Word of God without the anointing?"Certain men like Wesley and Whitefield and others had the anointing of God and we can easily think that if they said something that was powerful, it would be powerful if we say it that way too. But the anointing doesn't carry over that way. We must seek God for ourselves and get a message straight from Him. I just sent the cd of this message to fireonthealtar and it should be available soon on that website, my own site, and hopefully others.

My friend wrote this to me about the Ravenhill quotes. First off, saying that t.v. Christianity doesn’t preach salvation is sad, but true. I don’t know if we could say that NO ONE is preaching salvation. Have you ever seen Adrian Rogers or James Kennedy on television? Forgiveness is not all that there is to salvation, but it is a pretty major significant part of it. I would say that a person living in adultery that God does love them, but he is grieved by their sin. It’s a natural temptation to say, “Well if God loves me unconditionally, no matter what I do, I’ll just sin as much as I like.” But in Romans 6, Paul said, “God forbid!” to that reasoning, saying that if we’re dead to sin, how can we live in it any longer? Just because God’s love and grace is abused, we can’t stop preaching it. I would say that God DOES love people, not because we are lovable, but because he IS love. Yes, God is “angry with the wicked everyday.” But, to me, the reason he is angry at them, the reason their sin grieves them, is because he loves them. If God simply didn’t care about people, including wicked people, then he wouldn’t care how they behaved. If a father didn’t love his son, he wouldn’t care how his son lived. But his father will rebuke and discipline his son for wrongdoing if he loves him. In the same way, God’s wrath is sparked by humans’ sin, because God loves humans, they are made in his image, and he desires better for them than the wages of sin. To say, “God loves you, but hates your sin, is not “bunken” but the very heart of the Gospel. If God hated us, what hope would we have? God demonstrates his LOVE for us in this: while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. While we were sinners, doing things God hates, he showed how much he loved us, by sending Christ. This is the same way that we are to love: hating sin, but loving people in spite of their sin. We love ourselves, no matter how sinful we act. We are called to love others the same way. Not approving of others’ sin any more than we would approve of our own sin, but loving nonetheless. Christ told us to love our enemies? What if our enemies are wicked? Are we still supposed to love them? Of course we are. But how can God require us to love our wicked enemies if he doesn’t love our wicked enemies? Is God asking us to do something he’s not willing to do himself? Yes, people will be judged for their sin. But again, I would say the reason God will judge people’s sin, is because he loves them. He’s not going to judge cats and dogs and monkeys for their misdeeds, but he will judge humans, because we are made in his image, and he loves us. Think about this: God loves us so much that our actions actually can grieve God. Isn’t that profound? Think of how ridiculous it would be if you or I were to grieve and weep over something a cockroach did? We don’t care how cockroaches behave, because they are so small and insignificant and mean nothing to us. But even though we are small and insignificant, God has placed significance upon us by creating us in his image, and therefore he actually cares about our lives. In response to your second quote, I would just say that in sermons, we need to hear both love and judgment, law and grace, heaven and hell, to be told that we’re fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image and that we’re rebels. It’s not either/or. We need both. Here is a quote from A.W. Tozer that can surmise everything:The result of what GOD saw among men was grief to God’s own heart… and only love can grieve. You cannot grieve unless you love. God loved the man whom He had made and the degenerate and corrupt race that had descended from Him. God’s love caused Him to grieve, and it filled Him with anxious care.

One man sows another waters, it is God that gives the increase. I have read this thread and find that God works in each man or woman according to His wisdom. Each person was dead in his or her sin, each one God calls once, twice, three times in the hope of keeping him or her from going down into the Pit. One man is preached hell, another love. Sister Chanin said that once she was lukewarm. And what does Jesus have to save about being lukewarm?Rev. 3:16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. It is a blessed moment when God brings each of us into His presences. Sometimes it is through visions and dreams. Sometimes God causes men to cry out.Job 33:19 \t“Man is also chastened with pain on his bed,\tAnd with strong pain in many of his bones, 20 \tSo that his life abhors bread,\tAnd his soul succulent food. 21 \tHis flesh wastes away from sight,\tAnd his bones stick out which once were not seen. 22 \tYes, his soul draws near the Pit,\tAnd his life to the executioners. The results are always the same. Those who obey are 'called out." Called out of what?In ChristJeff

Thank you for the post of Leonard Ravenhill. Until finding him here and on the United4Truth.com web site, he was a name I heard but not a man I heard.I downloaded the 2 hour video from the SI front page. I took 4 pages of notes and quotes over the first 4 times I listened to it. I agree with him that the church is starved for preaching and good spiritual discrimination.I was deeply wounded at the behavior of the church toward him. He has been counseling folks for 13 years or more from and at his home. He said that if he has gained $500 from his effort he would be surprised. I am surprised and shocked. Two hours on tape from the comfort of my home computer is worth all the generosity I can muster and he shall have it. I urge your readers who value his heart to do likewise.I pray for Brother Ravenhill, though. It is a shock that he would be treated the way he has been, but I am not surprised. I hear angry love when I listen to him, like Jonah. He does not hold out hope to the church he speaks to, but disdain for our weakness and infirmity. So I pray for him because his work in the church is not done and God must temper his spirit for the rest of mad, dark days for those in darkness.I hope I don't hear much rebuke for my report here because I love and respect this persevering servant. And I love you for making his words available to someone like me.Shalom,Bill Word

Hi Bill,Leonard Ravenhill died quite a few years ago and is now receiving his reward. Likewise we are being blessed by having such a vast part of his ministry preserved here.Somewhat like yourself, I also actually had never heard of the man prior to being set down into this Utopian land of God fearing men. Now he is like a dear Grandfather to me...Here is brief bio:Brief Bio!

I have known about Ravenhill for a few years and have always been challenged by the quotes. Many people, particularly in England, have never heard of him or heard what he has to say. Something I would like to see created is a perpetual calendar with a quote per page. I could give them as presents to people and I would want one for myself! Every day we could flip over a new quote for the day and we would receive a challenge to ponder for the day. How could it not impact us? There are so many quotes we deem favourites, surely there are 366 that could be identified. It is not about a money making idea it is about getting these challenging words before a wider audience. I would hope someone would take the initiative.
