how to treat others as ourselves

B
brothagary

i been thinking about the thread about disrespect and i was also thinking about the sermon index prayer and fasting that will comence soon in febuary,,

and i cant seem to get out of my mind the idea ,,that

maby it woukd be a good idea ,for as many as posable brothers and sisters christ on sermon index ,to conect via skype , to pray and meet one another ,to put a face and pesonality to our nik names

this could be done as a part of prayer and fast week coming up

what do all think

blessings

S
sermonindex

Honestly, good luck with that. I have never met anyone in my life that "treated each other like our selves"

Yes, they will all pray and fast but

ABSOLUTELY NO ONE WILL LAY DOWN THEIR LIFE DOWN FOR ANOTHER. NEVER EVER.

We all say we will and maybe even mean it with tears at that moment but when push comes to shove, they will abandon you like the how all the disciples abandoned Jesus before his death.

I tried to do a wannabee version of that and I lost everything. I'm about to be go bankrupt again and lose everything for a second time in 3 years, I will have to apply for food stamps soon. I gave up about $250k in lost income, 401k, savings in the last years. Guess how many people came to my aid? ZERO. I did it cause that's what God told me to do. I will never do that again. I don't care what call I get from "God".

I learned a valuable lesson, do not trust other people, no matter what. All these friends I went to witness with and heal people with. I sacrificed so much to help them. None of those guys offered any help when I'M THE ONE THAT NEEDED HELP. NONE. and no one will.

TRY IT FOR YOURSELF.

I did and now I know the answer. Even "the most closest guy to Jesus" on this forum won't help you. It's all talk. They will all "pray for you."

Don't ever listen to what they tell you. Look at how they live their lives. What did they sacrifice willingly for Christ? Anything? probably nothing.

Luke 6:27-36
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful."

Living out the bible like Jesus talked about in the gospels is

ABSOLUTE SUICIDE!!!!!

especially in the world we live in today. At your job, you have to be cunning and guile to just to "keep" your job nowadays. Before people were cunning because they wanted to get promoted and were greedy.

This is the only guy that lives out those verses, it's the homeless preacher and even this guy is bashed by christians.
I would say Keith Green and David Livingstone are other examples of truly sacrificing everything to obey Christ, in the midst of EXTREME suffering.

I can't do this anymore. God is nowhere to be find and I don't know anyone else that does this besides the examples above.

dear codex, i live in the deep south and i find my testimony is just the opposite. i have dance friends that have come and cleaned my room and bought furniture for me so that i may be more comfy in my old age and time in a wheelchair. i have a ex bible school student that sends me a part of his tithe to help me. i have many christians that come by and make sure i am in need of nothing. i have 2 men who have offered thousands if i need it.one who has proven his love in the far past.i have lived in a million dollar home and now i live in a room for 300 a month furnished including utilities.God has been my source.jimp

i take what jesus said seriously,,when people steel from me i dont seek revenge ,or restatution ,,,i believed god is working somthing for good ,and teaching me patience and forgivness ,,,,,,we cant say we are paient forgiving people if things like this dont happen to us to test us ,,,and if we are not forgiving people ,we cant lay claim of haveing recieved gods forgivness ,,becasue when you truly have tasted gods mercy ,you will tho we fail want to show mercy in the end to every one and every situatain ,,god will more grace in the harder tests ,,but we must first get through the little tests

i try to treat other like my self ,,i aim to treat that better then my self ,,im verry hard and im not so forgiving somtimes with my self ,,i aim not to be hard and unforgiving on others ,,its not easly ,,but all things are posable to those who have been givern true mercy from god

im verry sorry codek about what you say loseing every thing ,,i cant realy talk to you about that ,i dont no the details ,,, i dont think you wer in fellowship with true christans,,a tree is knowne by its fruits

the bibles says that the love of god doesnt dwel in you ex friends that is why they did not help you ,,,

faith with out works of love ,is dead faith ,,not real faith ,, true faith will allways help others in need ESPECIAL A PRESIOUS BROTHER IN CHRIST

codek i have nver had to be cunning guile to keep my job or get a job ,,,,but i had to learn to forgive people ,,maby your not in the profession god wants you in

codek not everyone is called to live on the street and preach the gosple ,,,,look through the book of acts ,and read pauls letters and peters ,,and keep it all in a bibical contex ,,dont ever ever ,take verse out of a full bible contex ,, let the bible interprate the hard verses with the help of the spirit ,,, the new testament leters and acts gives us examples of of how christans lived ,,and they did not all live on the streets

we have to learn how to put out things on the alter as the are brought to light by the holy spirit

brother i was hoping that this would not turn into a decusions off the topic ,,,but i dont know what to say to to you ,but take you anger and disust to the lord and confess it as the sin that it is ,,and see where that takes you ,,take it to the god of the bible ,and not to the god of your godless healing witnessng exfriends

bless you in the name of jesus

That wasn't out of context.

And Jesus was commanding us to love our enemies, not merely just not retaliate against them. Even the sinners do that.

Who said anything about homelessness?

Read the passage again, please interpret what it is saying then, in your own words.

Luke 6:27-36
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. B
brothagary

you mentioned the homless preacher is oone of the only ones who are following jesus ,,that why i said we are not all called to do that

when i said keep it in a bibical contex ,,look at how the christans lived in acts ,and how they are decribed in the leteres of the new testament

keep that all in mind as contex rather then grab some verses out of the bible as a whole ,,let the whole bible interpret the verses that are neeed to to aply to ones life

those verese are verry clear ,paul and peter more all less said the same thing ,,,you can take them as they read

love youe enemy rather then hate ,,,be kind to them

dont lend money to people with a covertus heart to want back what you have lent ,,,give it away in you heart and leave it at that

if some one holds you up in the street for you wallet or money ,give him your watch ,and dont attack him to try to get back what he stole ,,or attack him trying to hold on to what you think is yours ,let him have it

i have to go pick my wife up from work catch you later

jimp, I do respect you because of your experience. I'm not trying to refute your experience.

I am making an observation, not only based on what I have seen in my life and the lives of people around me but also the lives of everybody in the world.

If God is faithful and true and if the church is faithful and true, we're not suppose to have a couple of testimonies. We should "ALL" be experiencing God.

Yet I find so much to the contrary.

One example is of this 23 year old North Korean girl in the video below. She looks like she is in jr. high, both her parents dead and she is looking on the ground for any food to eat. Later she is found dead and I'm pretty sure she wasn't a christian.

My sufferings although, painful for me, still pales in comparison to the rest of the world.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGR0BD2e1Ok

And we're not talking about one girl, "It's estimated that up to 3.5m people have died of starvation in North Korea since 1995 and up to 300,000 have fled over the border to China".

And that's only North Korea. And you know what, go through all the forums even here. How many "answered prayer" posts do you see? I saw one that I remember.

brothergary,

i am looking at the context of the whole church of acts. The church of acts had no possessions of their own, it was communal. THAT DOESN'T EXIST TODAY. Most "christians" just like the world take care of themselves first and maybe do a little chruch activity, if that. How is a church like that like the church of acts? are you joking?

I understand what you are saying about the other epistles but why did Jesus say this, if we're not meant to follow it. Why is it in the bible? Why are you ignoring this passage? Tell me why it's in there then, you tell me your interpretation, then. Why are you ignoring this question?

It looks to me that you're ignoring this passage cause you don't really want to follow what Jesus said. He says these harsh words all the time in the gospels. Why is it in there?

@Brothergary,

I like your idea.

For the sake of clarity, I want to bring up the regular phone conference prayer gathering that is hosted by Greg and led by various members here. The phone conference obviously isn't a face to face meet-up, but I wanted to at least connect it to the idea you laid out.

Still, the idea of a face to face video chat is intriguing...we can lose our mystique!

hi codek

we see that the church started out in ideal conditions so to speak and lived sharing everything ,,im certaint some groups and fellowships still try to live like that in comunes,, but it is verry obvious after reading the rest of the leters that other there never continued like that or that most did not ,it may have been when the church grew larger and larger ,that it changed its methods to suit ,,,,,im sure we can all spectulat on why it changed ,,but the bible doesnt say to my knowlage

remember codek ,the christan movment as a whole is an apostate church ,full of fasle converts ,and liberl doctrine to one degree or another ,,so we should not look at that and called them all christans

jesus said narrow is the gate and difical is the way that leds to life and there be few that find it

many he said will come to me in the last day saying lord lord ,did we not did this and that and prophecy in your name

i will say i never new you depart from me you workers of iniquity

wich veres are you saying i am ignoring ,,i wasnt planing to give and exposision on every verse in that passage you quoted from our lord ,,,,,,but like i mentioned ,it is a verry srait forward passage ,,if you look at my las post again i mentioned loving our enemys and if some one steels from you ,,if some one trys to mug you ,if some one wants to borrow money

what verses is it that you feel im ignoring ,,can you show me

at this time i and my wife are being threatened to be sued in court ,,by a poor person we have givern food to and money to many times ,,,this ex biker has turned on us for no reason ,but evil ,,,and all we ever did was help him

so i know what it is like to be treated bad for righesousness sake ,,and to love and pray for some one that seeming now hates us ,for no reason

Dear saints:

1. I have been speaking with others about the need to have a conference call where we can see one another. I am finishing a degree in college and we have used some of the following sites to hold training where you can both talk and use webcam. I do not know of the best technology but maybe someone with an IT background can set it up and find the best site, most are FREE.

The websites:

http://www.anymeeting.com/

http://www.gotomeeting.com/fec/

http://www.wimba.com/solutions/higher-education/wimba_pronto_for_higher_education/

The last link is the best, but you have to pay. There is a basic wimba pronto version for free.

Anyways, Skype has issues with connection, etc., and the caller will have to get a premium account ($8.99) and it is limited to 10 people.

I know a brother who has IT experience and I might be able to use one of my Professors accounts. So, if one of the Moderators emails me I will help them figure it out. :)

2. I agree with all the comments on loving others as yourself and loving you enemies, etc. Also, the anointing and unity that the first church had was incredible and heavenly. Probably there has been nothing to compare, which has been documented, other than the Moravians and maybe some Anabaptist groups.

3. In regard to laying your life down I believe that this is the more excellent way that Paul speaks of in the letter to the Corinthians. Alan Martin wrote a good article on loving the brother(s). I will post it below. In John it says: "Do not be surprised, brethren, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him." Also, James admonishes us "if a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself."

4. All of these and more burden me and the only thing I know to do is to continue to ask God to break me and bring me to the end of myself that I might be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.

5. I agree on the comments also about the homeless preacher video, it broke me into tears and encouraged me to look to Jesus to save me from the body of this death. Some of the other posters did make some good points about others being to radical, this can even become an idol, but the reality of what the preacher did is what got to me. In other words the world must see us as living epistles known and read my all men and the world must know that we are His disciples because we love one another. I believe this word "disciples" is another key, I have often said "Christian". Well dear saints many say they are Christian, but how many of us can honestly say that we are His disciple? Those who have really forsaken all, yea even self and their own life (psuche, natural life) shall find it unto life eternal (aionian-zoe, Divine life).

We have tried and tired and will try some more to live the divine life without the Divine, but apart from Him we can do nothing and unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it produces a lot of grain. Lord let us testify with Paul: "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world."

6. From Alan Martin:

A Life and Death Difference, by Alan Martin

"A life and death difference! Some of the things we overlook are non-consequential - others can de deadly! Here is one truth worthy of very careful consideration. How do we know we have crossed over from death to life? The apostle John gave us this answer - "because we love the brothers." That doesn't seem to difficult to say, taken as a whole we love the brothers. However John zeros in to where the rubber meets the road for everyone of us. None of us find it too hard to love the brotherS - but every one of us faces loving THAT ONE BROTHER! So John writes "the one not loving THE BROTHER (singular) abides in death." If we only close our heart to THAT ONE brother, John asks "how can the love of God dwell in us?" Moreover, if we do not love THAT ONE BROTHER, are we abiding in the light? Can we love the brotherS, and close our heart to even one BROTHER and still be in the light? The difference is a matter of life and death. If we only close our heart to THAT ONE brother - will Jesus close His heart to us? If we hold even one sin against ONE brother - will the Lord hold that sin against us? YES! Loving the brothers means loving THAT ONE BROTHER TOO - not just the brothers in general. If there is even ONE brother we do not love and have closed our heart to, sin is crouching at the door and we are very close to becoming just like Cain. He only hated ONE brother! If we love thousands and despise even ONE - have we fully crossed over from death to life? Closing our heart IS DEATH" (Alan Martin).

Lord, do it again! Lord do it AGAIN!!!

I have asked myself and the Lord the same thing. Lord teach us how to pray and teach us how to pray in the Holy Spirit, to pray without ceasing, to persist in prayers, to pray through and to love in DEED and TRUTH - like the saints of the old paths and the persecuted church. Have mercy on us Lord!!! And cleanse us from all our iniquities and sin then fill us with all the fulness of God. For your honor, glory and praise. We are bought with a price and we are not our own, OHHH may we realize the reality of what you have done for us on the cross and are doing at the right hand of your Father. May we see the reality of hell and what awaits for those who do not serve you. Break us dear Lord!

Hello brothagary: Yes I am interested in a prayer and exhortation conference call and I am still praying and thinking on which days I will set apart for fasting.

In regard to the "small group", it is not the quantity, but the quality.

Let me know what days and times so I can schedule and prepare. Let me know what I can do to assist in anyway. :)

I will be on a prayer call this week with bearmaster Blaine and I will ask him what his thoughts and plans are for Feb 1-7. I hope that is OK, I am just getting to know everyone so please be patient with me. :)

that you, jimp. There are billions of people, kids dying everyday, reaching out to God that doesn't answer prayer for them.

We should have answered prayer, everywhere, no? Does God only answer the prayers of a select elite? The 100 or so people mentioned in the bible by name? Did all the millions that lived in that time never get their prayer answered?

If you read our "Miracles that follow the plow", How many praise reports do you see? I see all prayer request and almost no reports of answered prayer.

If you just reply like that jimp, you're giving soldout2him false hope that God always answers prayers. From my research of not only my life and the countless lives of people around me, the findings on the internet and on this forum, God really doesn't answer prayer.

Most likely you live your life, pray about something, nothing happens, you move on with your regular life. Maybe God will answer prayer, most likely he won't and maybe not until the end of your life.

unless we believe with all our heart it more then likly it will not come to pass ,,and unless it is a prayer truly inspired by the holy spirit , for the bible says we no not what to pray for but the holy spirit interceds for us ,god will not answer acording to our will

John 14:12:-
truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

These are the words of Jesus to his disciples saying he will do whatever we ask in his name. This is the promise given to the disciples, it is not applicable to everyone who calls himself a Christian. It is not for everyone. A disciple of Jesus (true meaning of Christian) is one who believes in Jesus and willing to keep all his commands. Such a disciple will have his desires of his heart same as God's will. It is like a wife who loves her husband so much and has been with him so much that she knows exactly what her Husband will approve and what he will not. She will ask him only those that he will approve and her husband will grant them with joy. This is how a disciple will be.

We cannot pray for people whatever they ask us to pray, we need divine wisdom to understand what pleases God and pray accordingly. For example I will not pray for a man to get financial help if he does not know how to be content with what he has. I will instead pray that God will give him a spirit of Contentment.

S
Sree

God will always answer our prayers. The answer may not be what we wanted all the time. For example Apostle Paul wanted the thorn in his flesh to be removed. God answered his prayers saying my grace is sufficient to you. He did not remove the thorn. Did it make Paul lose his joy? Not he rejoiced even more because he is carrying this thorn in his flesh according to God's purpose to keep him humble.

God's Answer to our prayers is like Traffic light, there are 3 possible answers. Green - an approval, Red - Stop, Yellow- it will happen in his time. But there is always a light glowing as a response to our prayer.

S

I'm not a double minded man. brothagary. How am I a doubleminded man? Why aren't all the prayer in "miracles that follow the plow" answered, Are all those people in those posts doubleminded? How do you know brothagary? You can't just say those christian cliche's to me.

Is the preacherman in San Francisco who gave up his life "to give to all who ask", is he also double minded? how do you know this so well?

So all the people in the world are doubleminded, the billions that don't get their prayer answered?

Rick Warren is not a christian. He produces false converts with a prayer. He is an obvious agent of the devil. The best example of a wolf in sheeps clothing. We all know that.

If Paris Reidhead were alive today, his #1 example of someone using humanism would be Rick Warren, who doesn't preach repentance or the gospel but a better life on earth for all.

Watch these interviews about Rick Warren, his humanism, self promotion and reluctance of mentioning Jesus in his sermons.

Watch these videos and tell me how Rick Warren is a man of God. Prove it to me.

dear codex, the reason why some folks prayers are not answered is they seem to have critical spirits and attack the body.you do not know if rick is of the devil or a devil or a mis guided brother. you condemn(krino) which Jesus forbade.it would be my suggestion that you either do a word study on krino or go to a site ...a wilderness voice.. and read a short study already prepared called ...are we to judge? i am concerned for you and do not want to see you live without your prayers being answered.jimp
