The Sabbath

I attend a non demoninational fellowship in England, and attend church on Sundays.

I watched this video on youtube and would please like to know some thoughts, backed up by scripture. I don't consider myself to have great insight or biblical knowledge. Right or wrong I couldn't find myself disagreeing with what was said. Although I'm not sure it was fair to publicly denounce another preacher/teacher.

Here is the link if anybody has time.

Neil I listened to a good part of the YouTube message. The teacher giving the message is a Messianic Jew. They believe Old Testament laws are still binding upon New Covenant believers today. In their minds there is no division between the covenants. Thus the teacher is insisting the Sabbath as binding up on believers today.

I would suggest you read the book of Hebrews. Particularly pay close attention to chapter 4. This chapter speaks of Christ being our Sabbath rest. The emphasis is not so much on a day as more on the person of Jesus Christ. The book of Hebrews also shows the transition from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant. This is tbe covenant followers of Jesus are under.

Hope tbis helps.

Sabbath was given to man by God to do god's work. Man shall do his work(will) 6 days a week and on 7th day he will do God's work and rest in peace with him. But the Jews took it by letter and obstrained from doing any work on Sabbath. Jesus showed them the true meaning by healing men on sabbath purposely. Jesus showed them that Sabbath was given to do God's work.

In new covenant we have the spirit of Jesus(holy spirit) living in us who will direct us to do God's will all 7 days a week. Hence we do not need to keep just one day for doing God's work which is a Lower standard than doing it all 7 days.

Anyone who is asking us to follow sabbath is therefore living in old covenant which is a lower standard.

M
MrJob62

Romans 6:23 says the wages of sin death. Keeping the law can never pay the penalty for sin. It was never meant to. Only Christ' sacrifice can do that. The purpose of the law is to tell us how to live and treat one another and it defines sin.
1 John 3:4
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Jesus kept the law and we are to imitate Christ. You can't do a very good imitation of Christ if you are continually breaking his commandments. The Sabbath is one of those commands. I don't want to go into which day is the Sabbath but I will say that there are blessings built into the keeping of any of God's commandments. It is easy to see the blessings of keeping the Sabbath; a closeness to God and our brethren, time set aside to get into His word and being exposed to the gifts of the spirit dispersed through out the congregation just to name a few.

Jesus said that where two or more are gathered in his name he would be there also. Since that is the case it is our presence together in His name that makes the time Holy.

MrJob62:

John never equates the word commandment with the law of Moses in his Gospel account or epistles. The OT demanded 1 day per week and 10% of your increase. Jesus Christ demands 100% of everything or you can not be His disciple. True believers die to the letter of the law of Moses through the body of Christ. The law is the ex husband we are freed from through death to serve Christ, our new husband that we may bring forth true fruit to God.

1John 3:21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.

Romans 7:1 Or do you not know, brothers--for I am speaking to those who know the law--that the law is binding on a person only as long as he lives? For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage. Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress. Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.

But the bible begs to defer from you. You are quoting what the Jews understood about sabbath which is wrong. They took it as a letter and did not see the spirit behind it. That is why they blamed Jesus for healing on sabbath. If sabbath means rest then Jesus broke it and hence he is a sinner. Praise god he did not command sabbath for that purpose.

Exodus 35:2-
For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a holy day, a sabbath of complete rest to the LORD; whoever does any work on it shall be put to death. 3 "You shall not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the sabbath day."

God wanted them to rest from their work and keep a day holy in fellowship with him. But in new covenant he we have fellowship with God all the time hence every day is a sabbath for true Christians.

Jesus Christ declared Himself to be the LORD of the Sabbath (Matthew 12, Mark 2, Luke 6). The sabbath exists and Jesus showed how to observe the sabbath in the spirit of the law and not to become trapped by the letter of the law. Jesus set the day apart by healing on that day and by completing his redemptive work by rising from the dead on the new Christian sabbath of the first day of the week on Sunday. We do well to follow the example of Jesus and set the day apart for remarkable service to God and man. Jesus is LORD of the Sabbath. The sabbath was made for mankind because we need the change of pace and time for worship and time for God.

It is a wonderful blessing to be able to devote one whole day to worship, fellowship, prayer, Bible Study and Christian service. What true believer would not love to be able to give more than one day to such pursuits but who cannot be grateful for the one day? Why would anyone want to work and follow worldly pursuits for more than six days? Worldly pursuits are a necessity on other days as we sweat to earn our daily bread but it is a delight to enjoy the LORD's Day without such pursuits. People hear the Word of God and become heirs of salvation on the sabbath day more than any day of the week. The sabbath is a means of grace.

The Apostle John was "in the spirit on the LORD's Day" (Revelation 1:10) when he was writing the Book of Revelation. The LORD's Day was part of the practices of the first century churches.

The early disciples met regularly on the first day of the week.

\t"And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them… " (Acts 20:7)

The day of worship and fellowship on the LORD's Day is a foretaste of the way that the Redeemed will use their time in the eternal state. Then, we will enjoy eternal rest from earthly labors and eternal worship and fellowship but only then.

Jesus affirmed each of the 10 commandments. Let us not be guilty of taking away from what God has commanded. Jesus is LORD of the sabbath and we do well to follow his example and make it to be a day that is set apart and different than the other days. Call the sabbath a delight. If we love the LORD, we delight to do his will and dedicate our time to Him in ways that most or all cannot do every day.

I respect your view there are many who have similar views. i am not saying it is wrong. But I just cannot agree as the scripture says the gentiles keep the spirit of law written in their hearts by the Holy Spirit and their conscience bearing witness. We do not need a law as a school master to control us as we have a renewed heart which will condemn or defend us.

Romans 2:14:-For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.

I personally believe that every scripture is written for both Jews and gentiles. We cannot pick and choose which scripture is for Jew and which is for gentile, simply because God has not given us the authority to do so. In contrast the scripture condemns those who take even the least of command out of God's word and commands others to follow the same.
In new Covenant everyone follows the spirit of the external laws and not the exact letter. Since the spirit of the Sabbath is to fellowship with God which we get via Jesus Christ (John 17), we follow sabbath every day in our life.

I am so thankful to delight and rest in my might savior, rather than in a day. If someones conscience is bound to a day they may keep that in honor of the Lord but they can not tell others to keep a day or they are under law. This conversation reminds me of the woman at the well who was very confused on such religious matters too.

John 4: The woman said to him, "Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship." Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

Col 2 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.

I was following that same discussion on two other forums, where basically every possible aspect of it was mentioned, and found this specific remark by one of the posters of great help:

Hebrews 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

"For the most of the chapter it is not talking about the seventh day Sabbath, but rather entering the rest of God that will come when the Kingdom of God is established, but, verse 9 uses a word that is entirely different from the katapausis used in the other verses. The word used here is Sabbatismos and does mean the seventh day Sabbath and refers back to verse 4."

Personally I haven't seen any mind changed on that subject regardless if discussed over 10 or 25 pages, so generally i keep it with: He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. (Revelation 22:11)

However, while reading scriptures myself these verses got my attention previously:

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

So anyone living on this same earth would be able to appreciate anything God sanctified. Unless you are thaught he only sanctified it for the Jews but not for Americans.

To the Jews, or in a wider sense "To His people" God explained something regarding relationship and sanctification, as to the "reason why" of that day, and how to discern and know who does the sanctifying. That sign is a mark of orienation given by God, when people are confused about questions of "which god" and their own imaginations.

Ezek 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths,
to be a sign between me and them, that they might know
that I am the LORD that sanctify them.

Ezek 20:20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be
a sign between me and you, that ye may know
that I am the LORD your God.

Isaiah 66:15  For, behold, the LORD will come with fire,
and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury,
and his rebuke with flames of fire.

For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh:
and the slain of the LORD shall be many.

They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens
behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination,
and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.

For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come,
that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see
my glory.

"They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves" that's an interesting one, takes a while to think that through regarding its implications....self-help groups with humanistic approaches but religious terms comes to mind, or man-made doctrines, but for the moment, how does the story starting in Genesis end? Does God still keep that day sanctified through the ages, or will we still practise man-made holidays with christian terms in the future after the return of Jesus?

And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another,
and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship
before me, saith the LORD.

And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men
that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die,
neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.
Isaiah 66:23-24

It looks very much like Babylon is the one that is falling, not God's sabbaths.

Romans 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

There is an outward appearance of the law in the flesh.

There is and inward appearance of the Law which is the fulfilled Law Himself, birthed in the believer that we might worship in spirit with the inward being, which is, "Christ in you the hope of glory."

There is an outward Sabbath in the Flesh and there is an inward Sabbath of the Heart, which is Christ, He is our Sabbath in the Spirit that we now attain to, Christ our True Spirit Sabbath that we walk in His Rest, 24-7.

The True Sabbath and the Lord of the Sabbath is in us, he is a true Jew Who's Heart is now the Heart, Mind and Spirit of Christ in us, our circumcission being of the Heart of Christ in us, the old heart cut away, that we may walk in the true Spirit of the Sabbath Himself, not in the outward appearance of the Law of the Sabbath. Do you want to test in the Law of the Sabbath and Commandments or be fulfilled in the Spirit of the Sabbath and Commandments and enter His Rest, because of faith, believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He is birthed in us and we are new creatures in Christ the offspring of God, son's being raised up by the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to live in the Father's House forever.

M
Matthew2323

The answer to those who demand a legal Sabbath observance for New Testament Christians is found in Jesus' words in Matthew 12:

At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat. But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath." But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions, how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone? Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent? But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here. But if you had known what this means, 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT A SACRIFICE,' you would not have condemned the innocent."

Let's follow Jesus' logic:
1) The mercy of feeding David and his men was more important than a cermonial law.
2) The priest can break the Sabbath for the sake of temple service and yet remain innocent.

So, if mercy is greater than a cermonial law and a cermonial law was greater than the Sabbath then it follows logically that mercy is also greater than the Sabbath.

A > B and B > C therefore A > C.

Some laws are referred to as moral laws becuase they represent God's nature and are unchanging and binding upon all men for all time. The ceremonial laws and civil laws were not binding for all time and God has liberty to change their use according to His plan. (Note, God Himself does not change, He only changes HOW he relates to His people.) This should be plain to see by the fact that Christians do not offer blood sacrifices on an altar.

If we have two moral laws in conflict we are all in serious trouble! Could you imagine one command to serve the One true God and then another command to serve as many gods as you please? How absurd! We never see this contradiction in the Bible. (Thankfully!) We do, however, see an examples in David of a cermonial law bein usurped without judgment, chastisement, etc. (This is why we conclude that cermonial laws are not binding on all men at all times since God Himself saw fit to show that mercy is more important.)

So, a moral law can never be repealed, usurped, etc with God's approval. We do see cermonial laws being usurped with God's approval. We also see the Sabbath being usurped by a ceremonial law with God's approval. From this, we can conclude that God Himself considers the Sabbath to have some element of a ceremonial aspect to it. In other words, it is not 100% moral like serving only one God, abstaining from idolatry, etc.

If the Sabbath is, in part, a ceremonial law, it is not binding on all men at all times and The Lord of the Sabbath can change the administration of that law as He sees fit. By declaring that He desires mercy and not sacrifice, Jesus was declaring that a legal observance of the Sabbath was no longer required.

Because Jesus rose on the first day of the week (John 20:1), the early Christians began to gather on that day (Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2). Now, nearly 2000 years later, most professing Christians maintain that tradition.

Grace and peace,
Matthew

A parallel passage to Matthew 12:3-8 is Mark 2:23-28. There this phrase is also recorded (Mark 2:27) when the Lord Jesus Christ said:

>> The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.

Ceremonies have changed over the centuries but the nature of mankind is unchanged since Adam. Man still needs the sabbath. The day was set apart for man because man needed it. If you don't set apart time for the sabbath but let that time be given to other purposes when else will you have time that you need for God and for his purposes? The sabbath is a blessing for mankind and we are less well off if we neglect it.

In Exodus 16, God set apart the sabbath in the way that manna was to be gathered and this was before the law was given (Exodus 20).

The sabbath was made for man when man was made (Genesis 2).

At the time of creation, God blessed the sabbath day and sanctified it. At no time has this stopped. The Lord's Day continued to be observed by the first century church and the Apostle John when he was writing the Book of Revelation. We do well to continue to observe and enjoy the sabbaths that God made for man. God has blessed and sanctified the sabbaths without interruption through all the centuries of mankind.

Universally, across the world, even followers of other religions and even proclaimed atheists are often seen to observe the blessing of setting apart one day in seven.

Bearmaster, thanks for the reply. Please allow me to continue.

The days was changed. The Old Testament sabbath of the seventh day was replaced by the Christian Lord’s Day on the first day of the week. The Sabbath commemorated creation; the Lord’s Day commemorates Christ’s resurrection and completed work of redemption. The Lord’s Day replaced the Sabbath but it is still one day in seven.

As Paul’s third missionary journey was approaching its end, Paul purposed to be in Jerusalem for the day of Pentecost (Acts 20:16). So, Paul was then an observer of the day of Pentecost after he wrote his epistle to the Galatians.

Around the same time (Acts 20:7), Paul had joined the Christians at Troas, who gathered on the first day of the week to break bread, and he preached and broke bread with them.

Decades after Paul was beheaded at Rome, the Apostle John observed that he was “in the spirit on the Lord’s Day” (Revelation 1:10), so John was an observer of the Lord’s Day as the New Testament canon was being closed.

Under the Old Testament, feasts like the Feast of Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles were sabbaths that were observed in addition to the seventh day of the week. Yes, these feasts have changed.

When revival comes to the Body of Christ, we should expect that people will give themselves to God in a revived way. They will give the first part of their time (and the first part of their money) to God in a revived way. When revival comes, as it was for the church at Troas (Acts 20:7) and for the Apostles Paul and John, the first day of the week will show itself even more to be a blessed and sanctified day.

I already quoted Isaiah 66:23 regarding the weekly sabbaths that clarify that Jesus was and is the Creator and His sabbaths are and will stay His creation and seperate items from His person also in the future. This is Millenium scripture, read the full context to see that it isn't about past history, and here is another bit of millenium scripture:

Zechariah 14:16  And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

This is Jesus the King being worshiped in person in Jerusalem by every one that is left of all the nations, past Armageddon time.

If someone is only really keeping one day a week holy to God they may well be accursed and damned. If they are not dead with Christ, they are dead in sin, no matter how much they pretend to "keep the sabbath" or any other such nonsense.

If you lack the reality of walking in the kingdom now keep pressing forward violently, til Christ is birthed in you, do not go backward and rest in some pretense of keeping the law of Moses.

Unconverted pharisees made good arguments against Paul in his day over these matters.

a-servant…yours were good, edifying points. Thanks.

Isaiah 66:23 in the closing section of Isaiah does appear to be prophetic of sabbath observance during the future millennial period. The mention of Sabbath in this context does appear to affirm the continuity of sabbath observance during the New Testament era and during the period from Redemption to Consummation at the end of the age.

Zecharian 14:16 indicates that even the feast of tabernacles will be observed in Jerusalem by all nations during a future millenium period.

Hebrews 4 is another wonderful section. In v.9, the rest that remains as described is the eternal rest of Christ’s heavenly kingdom. Earthly work and sweat will be finished then. Heaven will be an eternal Sabbath. The current kingdoms of this world are no heaven. However, the earthly Sabbath now is foretaste of the heavenly Sabbath to come.

Even so, come Lord Jesus. May Thy Kingdom come and may Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

We celebrate the LORD's resurrection each week by keeping the first day holy unto Him. This has enabled us to keep a proper perspective of our own limits and the all-sufficiency of Jesus Christ - it is always an ongoing growing process, being changed from glory to glory.

I love this day - God, after all, said the day was made for man and not man for the day. Mark 2:27.[EDIT] I am going to take it since it is his gift to us. :-)

Not all commands of God are equal. When asked, Jesus referred to the two greatest commandments being those that involve entire love for God and love for neighbors that is as love for self. Some commands are lesser commands.

Not all places are equal. The place of the burning bush was holy ground for Moses.

Not all days are equal. I need to work for things of this world mostly on Monday to Friday. It's nice that Sunday is different.

"To say we are cursed does not come from the Holy Spirit."

Ginny, please go back and read my posts. I did not say that. Everyone is free to keep or not keep a day but not force it onto other believers. It is a matter of faith. I said if someone only keeps one day a week holy they most likely are accursed. That is, to clarify, if they have no reality of being born again and walking in the kingdom the other 6 days and think they are right in God sight because of what they do that 1 day, they are probably accursed (biblical word for those under the law).

So God bless you sister Ginny, I never said you are accursed. Keep that day onto the Lord if you feel it, I will keep every day the same. I have no quarrel over this and sorry if I wasn't clear. Only that those who do it under law (Moses) and not faith (Christ) are accursed. That is the word of God (Holy Spirit) talking and I can make no apologies for that,

Galatians 3:10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them."

On a general note, Christians should keep EVERY day holy to him in a very real sense too(set apart for him). That does not exclude some people feeling the sabbath or Lords day is special as we are free to do or not do, but it is the greater reality. For example working to earn money can be holy, because we do it onto the Lord. A sister changing diapers can be holy when it is done onto the Lord.

Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

Of course this does not negate setting special time for the breaking of bread, reading the word, fellowship, etc. But the all consuming reality is in our whole lives being holy, not just one day a week.

It is much nicer when you are meeting with saints all the time and the kingdom of God is within you and among you every day. Colossians 2:16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.

Romans 14:6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. Jesus had a habit of observing the Sabbath:

"And He (Jesus) came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read." (Luke 4:16).

Jesus gave prophecy concerning Sabbaths in the future:

In prophesying the destruction that was to come upon Jerusalem in 70 A.D., which was forty years after His death, Jesus told His followers: "And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath" (Mat 24:20).

•\tJesus healed a man with dropsy (also known as edema or severe swelling) in the house of one of the chief Pharisees on the Sabbath (Luke 14:1-6)

In the beginning, God blessed the Sabbath and sanctified and hallowed it (Genesis 2:3, Exodus 20:11). Hallowed be His Name and His Day.

This has been such an amazing discussion. To see and hear the different interpretations of what the sabbath means and the day of Rest.

I just had to join in, and share a piece of what the Sabbath means to me as a Day unto the Lord a day of Rest. To some it may mean once a week, while to others it can mean twice a week, and then you have the really crazy that believe it can be five to six times a week!!

----------------------

Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven;

And he said: "Lord God of Israel, there is no God in heaven above or on earth below like You, who keep your covenant and mercy with your servants who walk before you with all their hearts.

You have kept what you promised your servant David my father; you have both spoken with your mouth and fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day.

Therefore, Lord God of Israel, now keep what you promised Your servant David my father, saying, you shall not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, only if your sons take heed to their way, that they walk before Me as you have walked before Me.And now I pray, O God of Israel, let your word come true, which you have spoken to Your servant David my father. But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain you. How much less this temple which I have build!

Yet regard the prayer of your servant and his supplication, O Lord my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which your servant is praying before you today:

That your eyes may be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, My name shall be there, that you may hear the prayer which Your servant makes toward this place. And may you hear the supplication of your servant and of your people Isreael, when they pray toward this place. Hear in heaven your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive. When anyone sins against his neighbor, and is forced to take an oath, and comes and takes an oath before your altar in this temple, then hear in heaven, and act, and judge your servants, condemning the wicked, bringing his way on his head, and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.

When your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against you, and when they turn back to you and confess your name, and pray and make supplication to you in this temple, then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave to their fathers.

When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, when they pray toward this place and confess your name, and turn from their sin because you afflict them, then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants, your people Israel, that you may teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on your land which You have given to your people as an inheritance.

When there is famine in the land, pestilence or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers; when their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is; whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all your people Israel, when each one knows the plague of his own heart, and spreads our his hands toward this temple: then hear in heaven your dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for you alone know the hearts of all the sons of men),

That they may fear you all the days that they live in the land which you gave to our fathers.

Moreover, concening a foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, but has come from a far country for Your name's sake (for they will hear of your great name and your strong hand and your outstretched arm), when he comes and prays toward this temple, hear in heaven your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to you, that all peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that his temple which I have built is called by your name.

When your people go out to battle against their enemy, wherever you send them, and when they pray to the Lord toward the city which you have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name, then hear in heaven thier prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

When they sin against you (for there is no one who does not sin), and you become angry with them and deliver them tot the enemy, and they take them captive to the land of the enemy, far or near; yet when they come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to you in the land of those who took them captive, saying We have sinned and done wrong, we have committed wickedness; and when they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who led them away captive, and pray to you toward their land which you gave to their fathers, the city which you have chosen and them temple which I have built for your name; then hear in heaven your dwelling place their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause, and forgive your people who have sinned against you, and all their transgressions which they have transgressed against you; and grant them compassion before those who took them captive, that they may have compassion on them.

(for they are your people and your inheritance, whom you brought out of Egypt, out of the iron furnace),

That your eyes may be open to the supplication of your servant and the supplication of Your people Isarel, to listen to them whenever they call to you.

For You separated them from among all the peoples of the earth to be your inheritance, as you spoke by your servant Moses, when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord God.

And so it was, when Solomon had finished praying all this prayer and supplication to the Lord, that he arose from before the altar of the Lord from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.

Then he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying:

Blessed be the Lord, who has given.... REST.... to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses.

May the Lord our God be with us, as He was with our fathers. May He not leave us nor forsake us,that He may incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, which He commanded our fathers.

And may these words of mine, with which I have made supplication before the Lord, be near the Lord our God day an d night, that He may maintain the cause of His servant and the cause of His people Israel, as each day may require, that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no other.

My ignorance perhaps shows in my statements, but I have yet to find in either the old or new testament where gentiles are told to even acknowledge the Sabbath, let alone celebrate it.
Jesus certainly acknowledged it, but then he was a Jew and lived during a time when the law was still in effect.

If we love the Lord Jesus, then we will keep His Commandments (John 14:15). Faith works by love (Galatians 5:6) and if faith doesn’t work, then it is a dead faith and not a saving faith (James 2:26). Sin is lawlessness. Law remains (Matthew 5:18). Sin remains. Faith and obedience are linked as noted in the New Testament by Jesus and by Paul in Romans and by Peter at the least. Not every Scriptural direction is a direct command. There are many subtleties to be discerned and treasures to be dug out of Scripture (Proverbs 1:1-2:9). Every Scripture from Genesis to Revelation remains profitable (2 Timothy 3:16).

Ignorance by either willfulness or neglect is not good. It is not good for souls to be without knowledge (Proverbs 19:2). Because souls do not like to retain God in their knowledge (Romans 1:28), men and women fall to sinful lusts that war against the soul. Without a good conscience, people of professed faith can end up ruined with shipwrecked lives. More than a few have preached that willful ignorance is sin. According to the New Testament, we should flee temptation, hate evil and cling to what is good.

In the Book of Revelation, the Apostle John talked about being the Spirit on the Lord's Day. The Book of Revelation is not superseded by any later book. If the Book of Revelation includes recognition and observance of a day that belonged to God, should we not do the same? It is good to give the first day to God each week rather than to the world.

The Lord Jesus, Savior of God’s people, said in Mark 2:27 that “The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath”. Given that what Jesus taught is profitable and that the nature of man has not changed, should we not continue to follow that pattern of one day set apart in seven that Jesus taught was made for the benefit of mankind?

The Lord Jesus Christ observed the sabbath regularly (Luke 4:16) and also taught that He was Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:8, Mark 2:28, Luke 6:5). Is Jesus now Lord of less than He once was? Are Sabbaths meaningless? God forbid. God forbid. Let there be liberties enjoyed in how the Sabbath is observed in accordance with Jesus and not according to the pattern of the Pharisees but let Jesus rule as Lord of the Sabbath even now.

Some have argued that the Old Testament Sabbath on the seventh day of the week was changed at the Resurrection of Jesus Christ to become the Lord’s Day to be observed on the first day of the week. I agree. Details on that can be researched and studied. The Apostle Paul gathered with the early church at Troas on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7) when those at Troas met regularly to break bread.

If churches do not continue to meet on the first day of the week, how is that better? For centuries since the Resurrection of Jesus, Sunday has been a day on which Christians gathered (Hebrews 10:24-25), the Word of God is preached and taught, young and old are instructed, new disciples are baptized, the Lord’s Supper is observed, discipleship deepens, the Holy Spirit works, people are brought to saving faith. The Christian religion is revived every Sunday. Do we want it to revive any less?

The pattern of a day of rest every seven days was begun in Genesis 2:2-3. Then, God blessed and sanctified the day. Have any blessings of God been revoked and removed? God forbid. The Sabbath is prophesied to continue in the Millenium period (Isaiah 66:23). The pattern of a day of rest in the week existed in Genesis 2 and Exodus 16 before the law of Moses (Exodus 20) and it continues today. There remains a rest for the people of God (Hebrews 4:9). While we are not fully there yet, we can enjoy a foretaste of eternal rest and delight on every Sunday of the Eternal Sabbaths to come.

Sunday is a day for gathering the saints, worship, preaching the Word and often a day for doing Christian service. Sunday has often been the day when the sick and prisoners were visited and when hospitality was most often practiced (Matthew 25). Sunday is a day for deeper Bible study and prayer than is normally possible on other days. The Apostle Peter ended his epistles with a command that we grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18). Observance of the Lord’s Day is a means of growth in grace and knowledge of Christ. Let us not neglect growth in grace. Keep yourselves in the love of God (Psalm 31:23, Jude 1:21). It is good and right to set apart one day to give to the Kingdom of God rather than to give it to the kingdoms of this world. You need the day. It is good for you. Study the gospels and see that Jesus healed on the Sabbath like on no other day. It is good to be like the early church at Troas (Acts 20:7) and the Apostles Paul and John and set apart that first day of the week.

It is true that Apostle John was in spirit in Lord's day. But the book of Revelation does NOT say that Apostle John was in spirit only on the lord's day and rest of the days he did not want the spirit. Instead Bible says we need to live and walk in the spirit everyday (Galatians 5:16). Hence our Sabbath is for everyday of our life. It is good to remain in spirit for 1 day but it is greater calling to remain in spirit for all days of our life. Zac Poonen has written an article on this subject that was posted in SI recently, I would recommend it to read it to understand what I mean.

True, Jesus is the Lord of Sabbath. But by observing Sabbath only for one day you are making Jesus as Lord only for one day. What kind of king is he who will be ruler only for one day and will let his people live as they wish rest of the days? Our Calling is to have Jesus as our Lord all 7 days a week.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28- Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest (Sabbath).

He did not say that he will give us rest only one day of the week. Or he did not say just come to me only for one day a week. Our calling is to remain in Jesus every 7 days of a week. Hence have rest with him all 7 days of a week.

He further says in verse 29 that 'Take my yoke upon you'. What is this rest in which you are asked to take a yoke upon you? Is not taking yoke a work. The point here is not physical rest like how the Jews assumed, it is spiritual rest. Not to have unrest or anxiety in our spirit or life and to carry the yoke of Jesus in which Jesus is carrying the majority of load.

" It is good to give the first day to God each week rather than to the world. "

If the other six days of are lives are given to the world we are not saved no matter what we do on the other one. Jesus requires that every day is given to him. The shadows required 10% of income and 1/7 days. The reality in Christ demands everything or we can not be His disciple. The law pointed to Christ, but now that Christ has come we have a better covenant. This does not negate some from keeping a day as a matter of faith but the "God vrs world" argument shows how far we are from the NT reality of walking in the present kingdom of God on earth every day.

Have any blessings of God been revoked and removed? God forbid. "

They have been replaced by a greater blessing, His name is Jesus. I am glad to be blessed in Jesus. It is good to be saved. I remember when I was in bondage to rules about sabbaths and tithing as a young believer and thankful Jesus has lead me out of churchianity and into the reality of His kingdom. If anyone keeps a day they must keep it to themselves as a matter of faith between them and God, to push it on others is to keep it as a law and shows it is a cursed work that is not of faith.

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Hebrews 7:22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

Changing of times and ordinances really only makes sense if you also rewrite history at the same time.

Could not have happened? Oh yes it did, there are powerful forces involved here.

Quote " When they got to the tomb BEFORE daylight Sunday, He was already risen. When did He rise? That depends upon when He was crucified and put into the tomb. When careful research and study is done one finds that Passover, or the day of preparation, the 14th of Nissan, when Messiah Yeshua, (Christ Jesus), was crucified was on Wednesday. He said IT IS FINISHED: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost, at about the 9th hour, or 3:00pm, Wednesday, Nissan 14, in 30 AD. The Perfect Passover Lamb of God, by His Precious Blood, totally defeated
Satan, and Redeemed the fullness of the earth, which He had created. Had the princes of this world known, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.

Obviously, since He was in the earth 3 days and 3 nights, being crucified on Wednesday, it was Wednesday night, Thursday, Thursday night, Friday, Friday night, Saturday. He rose on Saturday, the Sabbath, The Lord's Day. Yes, Yeshua the Messiah, Jesus Christ, arose from thedead on Saturday, the Sabbath."
