HAH! Our first disagreement here! It's official... our court system committed murder.No...our courts granted someone's wish that they be allowed to die.May she rest in peace. And if you think that this issue will bring God's judgement on the nation, you are blinded to the hundreds of such deaths that happen in this country EVERY YEAR, homosexuality run rampant, murders, people starving in the street, insanity, a greater than 50% divorce rate, the continued stripping of God from public...now we're not even allowed to use scripture if we're on a jury, and many many other crimes against God.And you feel one death is going to be the ruin of us?Judgement is coming to America, Yes. But not because of Terri. She's an extremely minute ripple in a VERY BIG ocean of sin. (Not conceeding that what happened here was Sin, just saying that if God does see it tht way...)

If the government took prayer out of the school, legalized abortion clinics, legalize gay marriages, I am sure they know exactly what they are doing. Not being contentious, just giving a thought. I have seen this article about this woman in the paper but I haven't read nothing concerning her case, I don't even know what it's all about.I thought it might be something that this woman wanted the right to die, but the government stepped in and said no, or something of that nature.Karl

Well, my brother, we agree... we disagree. We are to believe her husband who says after watching a movie that she would not want to live that way. There was nothing in writing and no witnesses. There is some question as to why she was in the state she was in... and some have intimated that there was more to it, implicating some suspicion about her husband. This was a man who has been living with a woman and fathered 2 children out of wedlock. I personally believe that his motives were less than pure. The answer to this, since there was so much mystery to it all would have been to let her parents have custody of her, and he would be free to move on.This is why it's so important to have a living will... in writing, and legal. You are correct that all the other sins of this nation are bringing judgement on us, I in no way meant to imply it was just this one case alone. But today we have witnessed a court sanctioned murder.Other than that, brother... we're usually on the same page! Let this be an example to everyone else that two brothers in Christ can agree 99% of the time... and disagree agreeably 1% of the time.... and do it in a civil manner.Krispy

healing waters, a basic summary of the facts:Terri suffered a collapse and stroke many years ago and wound up in a coma. She woke up from the coma months later but was in what the doctos referred to as "persistent vegitative state." There is some dispute over her actual condition. Her husband spent years and lots of money trying to get therapy for her.Eventually he moved on with his life (at Terri's parents suggestion, even) and decided that therapy was not working, so it was time to let her go.The courts sent a neutral reviewer to assess her condition. He agreed with Michael, that there was no chance of recovery for Terri. The court battle that ensued was basically to determine ONE THING: Did Terry indeed express a desire to be kept off of artificial life support? She left no living will. The courts decided that indeed she had expressed such wishes. It is interesting to note that the vast majority of Americains feel the same way...they would not want to be kept alive in Terri's condition.Once that decision was made, the decision followed to remove all forms of life support for Terri...AS THE COURTS DETERMINED WAS HER WISH.The parents fought. The feeding tube was restored.Michael foght. The feeding tube was pulled. The parents fought. The feeding tube was restored.Michael fought. The feeding tube was removed for the last time nearly two weeks ago.Now Terri is dead...legally...at her request to not be sustained in this condition. Now people will come and try to argue that it wasn't REALLY what Terri wanted (how they can know this when it goes against the general grain of the Majority thinking is beyond me).OR they will argue that it is irrelevant what she wanted, the government should force people to stay alive in that condition against their wishes.Lord help us if we ever have a government forcing that kind of "life" (and I use the term loosely) on its citizens. What we had here was NOT a government saying "I don't care what you think or how you feel, you don't deserve to live in this contion... die DIE DIE YOU CRIPPLE!!"There are thousands in this country in states just like Terri who left directives (or at their spouse's requests) are being kept alive without government interference. Despite what "pro-life" alarmists would have us think, police officers are not about to show up at their bedsides and start pulling life support tubes in some kind of judicial frenzy. We have a government that is saying "As far as I know, Terri DID NOT want to be kept alive like this... we will agree to her wishes and let her go."I see nothing wrong with that at all. Though I will state it is terribly unfortunate that she had to die by starvation, I still think that's a paltry price for anyone to pay to end up with the Lord, and I'd gladly go through it if living in a hospital bed and minimally (if at all) conscious were my only alternative.

Other than that, brother... we're usually on the same page! Let this be an example to everyone else that two brothers in Christ can agree 99% of the time... and disagree agreeably 1% of the time.... and do it in a civil manner.Yeah, I still love you. I knew you couldn't be perfect. :-P

I see nothing wrong with that at all.If thats truly what she wanted, I agree. However, there is reasonable doubt that suggests that her statement to her husband may have never happened.Again, this is why everyone needs to get a living will. It makes things a lot easier for those who are left to deal with it when we are incapacitated. My wife and I have them. I did mine before I went to Kuwait in the first Gulf War. Altho my wife claims that I am in a vegetative state at times, she has graciously ignored my living will. :-) Krispy

My wife and I have them. I did mine before I went to Kuwait in the first Gulf War. Altho my wife claims that I am in a vegetative state at times, she has graciously ignored my living will. Now that's funny. And I agree with you as well in you're agreement with me. If this is NOT what Terri wanted, then our Courts have done her a grave disservice and what they did was murder...but it was done in ignorance. I don't necessarily think God will judge a nation for all the mistakes the legal system (and there are millions, I'm sure) makes in ignorance.Although I don't have a living will, I really need to get one...ironically, I need one to keep my wife from forcing me to live like Terri. She's stated empathically that she would not...could not...pull any plug on me, so I need to give that legal choice to my mom. My wife doesn't need a living will, though. She wants to live like that and I've no problem letting her stay hooked up if those are her wishes.

Please, let me repeat for those who I know are going to read this and disagree with my position.I AM 100% FOR PATIENT'S RIGHTSI believe the courts when they determined that Terri would not want to be kept alive. I believe it primarily because I feel the same way and so do most Americans. The odds are in our favor.Regardless of that.IF:Terri did not want to be kept alive like this... What happened today was justice. The patient's rights were upheld.IF:Terri DID want to be kept alive...what happened today was an accidental murder, because our courts are charged with doing the best they can with the evidence they have. They send people to be executed that are innnocent. Same happened today. I don't think the Lord will hold such against them.We are imperfect beings with an imperfect system. Today highlights the truth of that. Get a living will, or trust your spouse, because the precedent that was set here is this:Your spouse will determine your fate. And again, I think this is the right decision for the courts to make...even over the disagreeement of parents, siblings and children. If you trust your spouse to faithfully execute your desires, then you shouldn't need a living will (barring extraordinary circumstances like a car accident where your spouse dies and you wind up the vegetable...)GET A LIVING WILL. Spare the country from another hideous situation like the one we were just put through.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (Matthew 5:13)I feel a deep sadness over this whole Sciavo ordeal, can't help but feel that there is something of a deep significance in this event that speaks to the condition of our society...love grown cold. Let's pray for mercy and for God to revive a salty church. In Christ,Ron

For all our finger pointing I can't help but believe that the culpability for all this lies with the church. I agree... to a point. I dont think we can blame the church completely for all our social ills. Man is depraved, and we can not force our fellow men to follow God. Having said that, a lukewarm church is of no effect... and thats what the church in America has become.I firmly believe if the church truly followed the Word of God... we could wipe out our welfare system. The church is not feeding the poor. It is building bigger and bigger palaces.Krispy

I agree - this was murder. I have strong doubts that Terri ever discussed being in a vegetative state with her husband. If he cared so much about her "wishes", why did he wait until he shacked up with another woman before he even brought it up? Why didn't he divorce Terri? The answer is simple - money. If he truly cared about her, he would have been by her bedside instead of living in sin with another woman and would have allowed Terri to undergo therapy so she could have lived a more enjoyable life.I am hopeful that she is with her Lord and if so, then she will never feel pain again. God bless her soul!(I've been away from the forum a while. Some of you may remember me. I've had a bad few months which involved a divorce and custody battle. I kept my faith that the Lord would see me through, and He did. Now I'm back. :-) )

I am leary of the "concern" of various people in legislature getting wound up about this toward the end. These are the same people who write the laws, they could have had an ammendment when Mr Schaivo started another family which said that he forfeits his rights as husband to make such decisions and those rights then go to the next of kin. That should have been done ages ago.Anyway god is not asleep at the wheel, He has seen all this and will judge accordingly.

Especially considering that Michael turned down offers of MILLIONS of dollars from people all over this country to simply walk away and leave her to her parents. Now I wonder why a selfish, money-grubbing husband wouldn't have taken all those millions and just run with it?Oh yeah...maybe he was more concerned with honoring his wife's wishes.

If he truly cared about her, he would have been by her bedside instead of living in sin with another woman and would have allowed Terri to undergo therapy so she could have lived a more enjoyable life.Careful Dixierain. Any insinuation that Michael Schiavo had any ulterior motives for wanting Terri to die are likely to upset those of us who believe Judge Greer considered all evidence available and made the correct decision. We all know that judges are valiant defenders of the constitution and none bring their personal biases and political views to the bench when they hear their cases. There is certainly no evidence that this nation's judges are engaged in any way in any type of activism. This is a baseless claim made by far right-wing conservatives who are upset that judges are forcing them to pay taxes and exploit as many workers as they can. With the exception of Roe vs. Wade and a few judges in Massachusetts and Louisiana declaring bans on gay marriage unconstitutional(and subsequently demanding marriage licenses be granted) after 80% of voters voted for the offensive ban, our judges have a remarkable track record! In fact, I don't believe I've ever seen a judge overstep his bounds and actually write a Law into existence outside of the Abortion and Gay Marriage issues! No Dixierain, you may have been bothered by Judge Greer’s decision but his decision is not the issue. What really matters is that he followed the letter of the Law in making his decision. So long as he adhered to proper evidentiary and hearing procedures, his decision is not to be questioned. The appeals courts had confirmed and reconfirmed that Judge Greer followed proper procedure in reaching his decision. Therefore, no rehearing of any new evidence or testimony was necessary. Although new evidence may have been available, it is not something commonly allowed in cases such as these. Only in cases involving criminals are you allowed to rehear a case based on new evidence. Furthermore, questioning the decision would be implying doubt as to his ability to make sound judgments. Judge Greer has confirmed to us that Terri’s wishes were represented fairly by her loving, steadfast husband in this case. The Bible confirms to us that earthly courts are always fair, impartial, and sound in their judgment. Despite a few bad decisions here and there towards Jesus, John the Baptist, Paul, Peter and the rest of the Apostles, earthly courts have impeccable records. Michael was still her husband and that means God has made a bond that can not be broken. Who are you to say their marriage was null and void? There's absolutely no scriptural support that marriages are to be dissolved under any circumstances. Jesus may have made passing remarks about the seriousness of adultery but surely that doesn't apply to husbands who are unable to copulate with their wives. We can't question a loving husband's motives who has fathered two children by another woman(Terri also told him not to worry about staying by her side for the "worse” part of “for better or worse”. She advised him over passing conversation one night while wrapping Christmas presents that Michael was to find a new companion if she were ever bed ridden). There was absolutely no evidence of possible domestic abuse from x-rays performed shortly after her "incident" and no evidence of prior conversations between Terri and other family members where Terri indicated she may have wanted to file for divorce. You are crazy if you believe anything her family says because they are obviously biased.Michael consitently showed us that he was going to continue to fight on Terri's behalf despite lucrative opportunities to “walk away” and leave Terri helpless and suffering with her selfish parents. In 2004, after 7 years of court cases and claims that Terri wanted to die, Michael turned down millions of dollars to grant a divorce which shows us his undying compassion for Terri and her wishes. It would have been so easy to have taken the money after spending several hundred thousand dollars fighting for Terri's ‘right-to-die’ in court. There would have been no speculation of any kind about his motives had he taken the money. Money is the root of all evil. Michael turned down the root of all evil. Therefore, Michael is not evil. There were no doctors who contradicted claims that Terri was anything other than a vegetable. There was no testimony from any nurses, family or friends that Michael was anything other than an incredibly loving guardian. Even at her death, as George Felos his attorney eloquently told us, "Michael held her in his arms as she died". The Schindlers were not allowed in the room at this time because this was an extremely private moment between Michael, the love of his life Terri, the police officer guarding the door, and Michael's attorney (ultimately Terri's freedom fighter), George Felos. There was, however, clear and convincing evidence that Terri specifically requested to be allowed to starve to death if ever in a helpless incapacitated condition. If her life were ever in such a state that food and water were necessary to keep her alive she specifically asked her husband to "pull the plug". It may have been during an episode of E.R. or Friends, Michael can’t recall. Details such as these don’t matter when discussing monumental decisions such as life support and courses of action to take when one spouse is incapacitated. The important thing is that she specifically stated to Michael that she never wanted to be like Alzheimer patients, amputees, infants, and those with severe mental impairments who are required to be fed food and water with assistance or artificially. Terri was dead in every sense of the word except for the fact that her heart still continued to beat and occasionally her body twitched. The highly skilled, unbiased doctors that Michael lovingly hand selected for Terri have informed us that the videos of Terri are extremely misleading. Although one may mistakenly be led to believe that Terri was aware of her surroundings, this is actually an illusion --a simple series of reflexes to the motions around her body. The 33 neurologists who stepped forward on behalf of Terri’s parents and claimed she was aware and was not in a vegetative state were all biased and incredibly selfish. How could they not see that this woman was obviously a breathing vegetable and should be put out of her misery? What was their motive? Couldn't they see that she was on life support and that death was imminent? They must have been right-wing religious zealots. How else could you explain their claims? Neither were there calls from left-wing politicians to reinsert the tube. Ralph Nader, Joe Lieberman, and a few other democrats who supported reinsertion of the tube don’t compare with the overwhelming majority of those “right-wing extremist zealots”. You will be comforted to know that many bioehticists (scientists in charge of advising us if medical treatment, or lack thereof, is ethical or not) have confirmed that Terri died a painless, peaceful death. There was no need to hasten the death by lethal injection as this would have been considered ethically questionable. Anything “unnatural” is not ethical. Anything “natural” is quite ethical. Any bioethicists will tell you that lethal injection is assisted suicide which is illegal and may even be viewed as murder. No. By withholding food and water we absolve ourselves from the awkwardness of actually taking an active part in her death. In the end, this was Terri’s victory. I’m glad she’s finally dead and out of her misery.

Psalm 82:3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Psalm 9:18 But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish. The Bible says nothing about torturing the needy or helpless for 13 days until they die. If you had a baby and that baby was brain damaged, would you be justified in not feeding it? Would you just let it starve to death? Or would you feed your baby, nurture it, and love it regardless of it being helpless? Terri was somebody's baby. And her parents were willing to spend their lives taking care of her. Nobody knew what Terri's wishes were, except God. I'm sorry, but I have to believe her parents over her "loving" husband.

Boy, Matt25... If I didnt know any better I'd think someone got your dander up! :-) By the way, brother, you cited that as far as you can recall Roe-v-Wade and the homosexual marriage rulings were the only instances that justices overstepped their boundaries. I am not informed enough to confirm if that was the only time this happened... but isnt it interesting that those two instances are both issues that God is highly offended by. Abortion laws have resulted in the murder of untold millions of unborn babies. Homosexuality is an abomination to God, and in the OT was punishable by death. (NO... I'm not in any way suggesting we kill homosexuals! We live in a different dispensation now.)IF those are the only two issues they have overstepped their boundaries on... I'd say thats pretty horrible. But lets not forget the higher court's warped interpretation of "Seperation of Church and State", and the rulings that have come down on that.Krispy

Have stayed out of all this only watching it from afar and maybe that might give a different perspective of what stands out amongst all this and the many comments here.Just to make it public record, I do not want to be kept alive by a machine and would give my trust to the Lord that those who may be about me would have the prayerful discernment to let me go be with the Lord who is everything and concur wholeheartedly with Paul when he stated it is better in Phil 1;2,3, the only fear I might have is to show up to early, with unfinished business... Saying that has it's own complications I realise, all the 'what about's' and 'what if' scenario's, but that too would trust to the Lord to give discernment to those about. And that leads on to the next observation that I can't help wonder about; How many were really praying for the Lords will to be done in this instance? Honestly? Much of it, not necessarly here, has the usual ring of the creatures pleading for God to bend to our wills instead of the reverse, and that is from both 'sides' if you will. The other things that come to mind are how did a private issue beome fodder for the whole world and the media to devour? And where pray tell did all the assumptions, accusations and seemingly 'those in the know' come from? Does anyone other than a handful understand or know the people involved here? All this speculation and grandstanding seems to get lost in emotions and overemphesis, a line drawn in the sand and the gray made black and white. I am of the opinion of no opinion as far as taking sides. It is a tradgedy that started a long time ago it seems and should have been kept a private matter, that it became everybody's business is a shame. There are untold similar situations by the thousands and just as well dissimilar that get little or no attention. Horrendous persecutions, torture, rape, murder, abortion. Men are evil and that is the sickness of this planet and it's inhabitants. We will elevate one sin above the other and disregard or give no reflection to the other. Was trying to find a quote, but in a nut shell it is that the tradgey of life is not in dying but in living. In that sense would be 'happy' for her soul. But out of all of this Robert is making the most sense to these ears:"There are many thousands of people in this nation that are in Terri's condition and God knows each of them- even the very hairs of their head. Was merely attempting to show the absurdity of the argument that our judges made the right decision and that there were no other viewpoints from doctors, lawyers, family or friends that contradicted Michael Schiavo's side. People arguing for the "pulling of the tube" argue that it was God's will, humane, and Terri's wishes. My dander is all messed up over the passivism that goes on with Christians over death by intentional starvation. It would have been much easier to swallow (no pun intended) had we given her a lethal injection. Even the roman soldiers offered Jesus gall at the foot of the cross. We wouldn't even allow Terri to have an ice cube. She lasted 14 days. Her body was quite self sufficient I'd say. Reread my post carefully.

MikeAnd that leads on to the next observation that I can't help wonder about; How many were really praying for the Lords will to be done in this instance? Honestly? Much of it, not necessarly here, has the usual ring of the creatures pleading for God to bend to our wills instead of the reverse, and that is from both 'sides' if you will. That is a good question, how many of us in this whole thing were doing what the lord intended for us to do? How much of what we said or did was inspired by the spirit of God which shows us His will? The Lord moved me to speak on the importance of being sure that what we do is inspired by the spirit of God so it is pleasing to God and how as we are a body of believers not everyone will be asked to do the same thing at the same time. Of course that did stirr up some heated discussion. The politicians did their usual grandstandning and many of us did the same on one way or another, looking to make ourselves look good and righteous before man instead of righteous in the eyes of God. Seeking to glorify ourselves or building a legacy for ourselves instead of riches in heaven. You know I remembered watching some shows on the histroy channel and others which showed actual footage of people being hacked to pieces with machetes while pleading for their lives. Bodies and parts of bodies strewn as far as the eye can see. The genocide in rwanda and burundi which happenned to the tune of at least 5 million people while the world just stood by. The current genocide in the Sudan in which at least 3000 people die each day, people that is SEPTEMBER 11 EVERY DAY, and this has been happenning for the last 5-10 yrs. The world just looks on, the u.n. has stopped short of calling it genocide. What grieved me is how we got so wrapt up in terri's story that we forgot about everything else. On every news channel it was all terri, nothing at all about the millions who suffer even worse things every day but don't get even a thousandth (if any attention at all) that terri schaivo got. Not to say her story wasn't important, but we treated it as if the whole of creation was hanging in the balance. The world continues to turn people, and there are so many out there who are in need of our prayers, our gifts, our compassion, our love and will we step up to the plate?here are many thousands of people in this nation that are in Terri's condition and God knows each of them- even the very hairs of their head. A group of folks that I have been called to minister with now for over 10 years have ministered to the elderly and the like in nursing homes. Now I am beginning to see why so few nursing homes have Christians coming to see these helpless people and share the Gospel with them. They believe they need to be just taken out back and shot I suppose? What would Christ have said to such reprobates? This site is about repentance isn't it? REPENT of this wickedness!!! Turn from your pharisaical pretentious ways and minister to the needy. Stop with the hypocrisy. I have heard enough. I have heard all the talk- when are we going to see Jesus Christ in the lives of people? I am up to my neck in worthless dead religion and pretense. Where is the love for the unlovable? Where is the pure religion? Who is visiting the fatherless and the widows in their affliction? I'll tell you what, I want no part of such religion that cannot love the helpless. Where is the compassion? Out of sight out of mind? Hmmm? There out there! They are in your towns and cities by the thousands. They are locked up in beds and wheelchars unable to feed themselves. They have forgotten what it means to eat and need fed or they will starve to death. They don't remember their names anymore or their kids names. Some their kids simply tell the nurses- call me when their dead and I'll come up. You have no idea who have not been there. You shoud look into these things. Many of these people were pastors and Sunday school teachers. Many have served God for over 70 years and now theu can't even beg, borrow, or steal a sermon or a word from the Bible. Enough is enouGod has mercy on us all for wanting to glorify ourselves at His expense. Maybe now that Terri is at rest we can decompress and start to pay more heed to what the lord would have us do. It will be of critical importance given the judgement that is about to come.

Dixierain,You completely misunderstood the true meaning behind Matt's last posting. He is being sarcastic. In truth, he is utterly grieved over the lack of compassion and disregard for the sanctity of life concerning Terri Schiavo.Robert, AMEN!! to your post.........In Jesus, Cindyedited to add: oops, guess I should have read through the whole thread before jumping in to Matt's defense. :-P

God has mercy on us all for wanting to glorify ourselves at His expense. This may be, but certainly there are places that you can go and minister and insure yourself that none but God will get the glory. Maybe you are right. Maybe that is why so many forget that pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this; to visit the fatherless and the widows in the affliction and to keep ourselves unspotted of the world. Topeka Kansas has but a few claims to fame. One is Stones Folly where Charles Parham ministered and seen the beginnings of the modern day Pentecostal movement. It's odd in that Topeka quite possibly could have the same root at "Tophet" which could be interpreted as 'Hell'. The zip code for this city starts out as "666**". But they have one claim I understand that has become quite cliche' these days... it was W.W.J.D. I must ask in this case, what would Jesus be doing? Where would He be? Not a lot of glory for 'self' in those places. Not even talking about it on this forum could bring glory. It glorifies God alone- because it is so far out of the limelight. When everyone else is doing their thing their is the regular ministry that gains very few amens or plaques. You may well never see one of these ministries on TBN or the like, but God IS glorified and souls are being saved.God Bless,-Robert

indeed brother robert, there are certainly things which we can do which will only glorify God. What God is impressing on me is that in order to knwo these things we must be in touch with the spirit of God and do as it says to do whether it is speaking on a forum, for all to hear or in private to God, ministering, encouraging, praying. If we are to remain unspotted before the world, we must always walk in the spirit because if we don't we walk in the flesh contrary to God. Pleasing God requires that we walk in the spirit at all times.
