Ferguson As America: "There Is A Brewing Problem... And It's Extremely Dangerous"

Riots are have erupted with hundreds of protesters gathering at a suburban St. Louis police station on Monday demanding murder charges against an officer who shot to death an unarmed black teenager over the weekend. Looting just went nuts like the ’60s. While this is being painted as a race issue, there is yet another issue that is not being addressed ”“ that is the militarization of the civil police forces around the country.

Ever since 911, there has been a trend moving toward much harsher local police. Here is a photo of how the Boston Police have militarized to the point it looks like war against the people. Even small towns are geared up for war.

The small town of Medford, Oregon with a population of 76,462 has spent millions of dollars to militarize their police. They have their own Swat Teams, yet no incident in history of some major shooting of such a nature to warrant a Swat Team. The entire reason where there was the Second Amendment was to eliminate this very threat of standing armies. We are seeing the abuse of force at every level. Medford Police bought a new vehicle that some say could survive a so-called the apocalypse. They used their Swat Team to go after a mere carjacker.

Medford, New Jersey with a population of just 23,033 also has a Swat Team. They rushed in and held two white kids on the ground at gun-point for shooting potatoes into a lake setting hair spray as the propellant.

Greetings Neil

I live in between two big east coast cities as I have shared before and I remember sitting in my living room glued to the television watching live news feeds of the police in full army tactical gear going door to door demanding people leave their homes with their arms up in the air. Yelling at them, frisking them, and searching the homes before moving on to the next house. I remember thinking this is scary stuff, but not because of the bomber. No I was afraid of what I was seeing happen with the police. The amount of adrenalin flowing that day was unlike anything I had ever seen before. You could see the police were pumped up as if they were going into battle.I remember thinking, all of this for one person??? I realize terrible things were done but the response seemed so extreme. And yet when they caught the bomber people cheered the police.

After a while that day I turned the television off but I kept praying for people's safety, for the officer's safety.
These riots in St. Louis area are frightening as well. I understand the police need to do their jobs and there has to be enforcement of the law but again seeing all those dressed in army tactical gear pointing guns at unarmed citizens just makes me feel the need to pray all the more.

After seeing so many things unfold, can there be any doubt that storm clouds have gathered and times are indeed short? Prayer is our weapon of choice, always has been always will be. Praying for the lost, praying for people to see their need for JESUS. Praying for our leaders as well.

I share this concern, Mary Jane. We cannot underestimate the danger of power when in the hands of angry people. Law enforcers can be among the most dangerous people around. Their actions merely escalate violence.

And the greater tragedy is that a society praises them when they catch the "criminal” . Few take time to consider the forces that shaped this "criminal” ”“ the anger, bitterness, that spawned more anger, rage and violence?

Could it not be said that the greatest danger on earth is the power of unforgiving-ness. It has no brakes.

Give me a break!

These "unarmed civilians" are destroying and looting businesses in their own neighborhoods. If you truly believe they are unarmed I am afraid you are very mistaken.

Should police stand by armed and in their riot gear to prevent this or simply stand down and let them have at it?

If the police response in Boston had not been swift and active they would not have captured this terrorist that blew legs off of innocent bystanders. I am still amazed they caught him so quickly. And what kind of message would a lacksadaisical response have sent?

______________

When I said "unarmed civilians I was commenting about the picture in the link Neil posted. At the bottom there are three heavily armed officers pointing their guns at a man walking down the street with his arms in the air. That is unsettling to see. However I should have been specific about what I was talking about. I realize as I wrote it before implies something different. Thank you for pointing that out to me.

As for what happened in Boston, I stand by my post. It was very disturbing to see people pulled from their homes, some still dressed in their pajamas, being yelled at and told to keep their hands in the air and frisked while their houses were searched. It was very unsettling. I do understand what happened in Boston was horrible but the entire city was on lock down. Armed vehicles and heavily armed officers were everywhere, all for one person. It was extreme in my opinion, it was extreme in a lot of people's opinion.

I never suggested that there should be a lackadaisical response but we do have laws in the country. Laws that speak about what the police can and can not do when it comes to civilians. Laws about searching peoples homes with out a warrant?? Many things have changed here in this country since 9/11 and much of those changes have been a result of fear.

Just so you know I have the greatest respect for the police, they do a difficult job and risk much but that does not mean things don't go wrong and abuse does happen.

I understand in St. Louis the police are attempting to restore order and I understand that is their job to do but it does not change the fact that they have become much more militarized in doing it.

In all of this I see the need for prayer.

yep, I saw those folks in Lowell Mass, a mostly white suburb, coming out of their houses, having M-4's shoved in their faces, being screamed at by black armored clad LEO's , in CLEAR VIOLATION of the 4th Amendment to search for ONE skinny Chechen kid with a 9 mm sidearm....I saw that, totally unacceptable.

But it was a Beta test, see if people "comply" to having their Constitutional rights, that too many good men have died defending, violated by normally sane LEO's, who are being used by dark, un-American masters, without any kickback.

the whole "Boston Bombing" wasn't "as advertised", I seen 10 plus surveillance photos taken prior to the bombing, right near ground zero with numerous pairs of men, with identical backpacks and identical ball caps. Plus the "bomb" itself discharged upwards (thank God) instead of outwards, which would have caused a really hideous body count. One could say it was the ineptitude of the bomb makers, but we'll never know, as the two suspects, (probably witless patsies)CANT TESTIFY, as one was shot dead, and the other, the skinny 19 year old, found hiding in a backyard boat, was conveniently shot in the throat while surrendering.

Now, Ferguson, Mo. is mostly black, and what I saw was a lot of looting, no police presence at night...a lot of hollering, typical stuff. I don't think young ghetto blacks keep the powers of the age, up late at night with concern, because when the rubber hits the road they do childish things, such as looting shoe stores to get Air Jordans, looting quick trip gas stations, for beef jerky and candy, maybe even a box of Huggies.

But what really worries the powers of this age, if you're Christian, own firearms, precious metals, and buy lots of foodstuffs to store....AND know the Constitution, you are number ONE on their list, so when I see believers dramatically concerned about a bunch of arabs a half a world away PERSECUTING the REAL Church in North America...its not the arabs we should be concerned with.

and please don't think i'm anti-Law Enforcement Officers, as one of my good friends is the Sherriff of this County. We saw each other last week at the gas station, and stood around, shooting the breeze. He had just come from a meth lab arrest, where 4 dear children had to taken to hospital overnight.(I have been in constant prayer for these young ones) We both agreed that our number one problem, JUST rearing its ugly head is meth and heroin. Heroin is mostly in a town 40 miles up, pop 50,000....we are a pop of 4,000, we're the County seat. we both agreed meth (which I believe is the name of a demon) has to be ruthlessly crushed.

But meth and heroin made their appearance here, ONLY 4 years ago, which makes me wonder. this weekend another dear friend, 68 year old school bus driver had his door stove in, and had $5,000 of coins stolen, $2,000 cash, all his ammo, some firearms, lots of tools...it was bad, this is a good man, works hard.....and me and my buddies think the only kind of person, who would have the craziness to attempt this in a rural district, are meth fiends. Lord help them if they decide to stove this door in

in closing, you are RIGHT about prayer. Oh MJ, dear sister, as I've told you many a time for the past two years, at times, I've just been layed out in Holy Ghost grieving...It just HITS me, not for myself, but larger.

its like that film "Take Shelter"....I knew what he felt, excepting that we have Jesus, neil

Now now-- we need to allow them to come in and then help them load our stuff in their vehicle. And if they want to beat the stuffing out of us we need to allow that too. They will then see the light through their meth induced haze.

Why should the child of God be concerned?

Jesus said not to worry.

Worry is wrong for 3 reasons:

1) what we are worrying about may never happen so we have worried for nothing
2) if what we are worrying about DOES happen then we are tormented twice-- once by the worry and then by the event
3) Jesus said not to

A concern can be raised without there being fear. A very real situation, like the ones happening all around us can be discussed and prayed about with worry or fear.

For me these topics remind me to pray, to be before the LORD on things happening right now around us. I don't do so out of fear or worry but because GOD has laid it on my heart to pray.
Prayer is a very powerful tool...in these times we live in now I want to be in prayer.

But sister MaryJane, when you have a title like: "you're worried about arabs?....worry about THIS!" it doesn't really come off as "let us trust and pray" bur rather "o no, the world is coming to an end", although I do absolutely agree with you that prayer is something we need more of, myself included, and not necessarily for the purpose of "God fix this" (although we want peace as much as it is possible), but rather "God help me to trust in You and let that sober minded trust cause others around me to do the same"

TMK, thank you for the reminder not to worry and trying to point us back to Christ. I was especially blessed by point number 2 as I never thought of it that way before. Something I will definitely hold on to and know will be of help to me through the ups and downs of the road ahead of me.

Blessings,

MJ-

I want to really apologize for seeming callous about this. I do understand your heart and I don't want to hurt you in any way.

You wrote: "For me these topics remind me to pray, to be before the LORD on things happening right now around us. I don't do so out of fear or worry but because GOD has laid it on my heart to pray. "

I confess that last night before bed I felt led to really pray about some of the current world situations we have been discussing on SI but when I started I really didn't know where to begin, there simply seems to be so much going on right now. Ultimately I prayed "Your will be done and show me what you want me to do."

None of what is happening is taking The Lord by surprise and sometimes it seems like my prayers are nothing more than informing Him about what He already knows. He knows Christians are being slaughtered in Iraq; He knows about the Israeli conflict and he knows about racial unrest in St Louis. Knowing what to pray is a little disheartening.

We are exhorted through scripture and one another to take no thought for the morrow nor to be fearful or worry but rather to be Watchful, Prayerful, Sober Minded, and Vigilant, Discerning the signs of the times around us and taking Heed that we may escape that which is and must come to pass all around us.

Paul comforts us with these promises and words of encouragement:

1 Thessalonians 5:1-16 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto YOU. (2) For yourselves KNOW PERFECTLY that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. (3) For when THEY shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon THEM, as travail upon a woman with child; and THEY shall not escape. (4) But YE, brethren, ARE NOT in darkness, that that day should OVERTAKE YOU as a thief. (5) YE ARE ALL THE CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT, AND THE CHILDREN OF THE DAY: WE ARE NOT OF THE NIGHT, NOR OF DARKNESS. (6) Therefore let US NOT sleep, as DO others; but let US WATCH and be SOBER. (7) For THEY that sleep sleep in the night; and THEY that be drunken are drunken in the night. (8) But let US, who are of the day, be SOBER, putting on the breastplate of FAITH and LOVE; and for an helmet, the HOPE of salvation. (9) FOR GOD HATH NOT APPOINTED US TO WRATH, but to OBTAIN salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, (10) Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. (11) Wherefore COMFORT yourselves together, and EDIFY one another, even as also ye do. (12) And we beseech you, brethren, to KNOW them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and ADMONISH you; (13) And to esteem them very highly IN LOVE for their work's sake. AND BE AT PEACE AMONG YOURSELVES. (14) Now we EXHORT you, brethren, WARN them that are unruly, COMFORT the feebleminded, SUPPORT the weak, BE PATIENT TOWARD ALL MEN. (15) Rejoice evermore. (16) PRAY WITHOUT CEASING.

I know your heart brother, and I know the love you have for the LORD and the Church. I know this post is not about fear or worry but to warn others as the LORD has laid on your heart to do.

Times are dark and getting darker. I know you, as others at SI have felt the need to pray and share with us all that time is short.

Thank you for being faithful and following HIM even when its not the popular thing to do.

God bless you for any encouragement in Christ, sister Mary Jane, even through this anonymous venue called the internet, May the Lord protect your family, and provide resource and safety for all under that small roof, that's my prayer this morning.

I just have a little moment too, as there is, Thankfully, a very large pile of firewood to split, white oak, shagbark hickory. .....AND a pile of dead red elm, farmers Deeee-light(i'll explain later)

off topic...well maybe not, you know who one of my OT role models has always been?....Joseph. I love him, he was smart, beyond reproach, probably the only OT historical figure without any recorded sin, and look what his brothers did to him!....but when Israel died, the brothers were terrified Joseph was going to seek retribution, and they came to him, trembling with fear at this thought.....which drove Joseph TO TEARS, that they would EVEN DOUBT his love for them and their little ones....to tears.....and he spoke to them, saying basically what Paul said in Romans 8:28.......AND Joseph was probably the greatest grain trader the world has ever seen.......so that when I pour over global wheat statistics, I NEVER get a feeling i'm wading in the DROSS of the world....I think of Joseph....i'm in the Word every morning, but I also pour over global grain stats, or global petroleum stats, or read news from the alt-media....I read everything, or try to.....now IF it seems i'm boasting, i'm boasting IN THE LORD, fore it was He, Who gave me this gift....the need to know, and if others perceive that as "fleshly fear"?....doesn't matter one mite to me, as I know Our Father loves me, and at least two sisters on this forum, you and ginnyrose love me, sight unseen....i'm blessed man then, God fill you today with His Spirit, in Jesus' love, neil

I think we should be very concerned about the situation today. First we should try and identify the root of the problem, then we could find the "cure".
Leonard Ravenhill wrote a book 35 years ago: America Is Too Young to Die
"This message is meant to avert the untimely death of a "child" among nations. The author says we are failing to save the contented from the curse of compromise, imitation, and professionalism and that it is time to quit playing church"
The problem is sin and the falling away from the Gospel and the answer would be repentance, revival, a new Awakening.
Therefore to militarize the police and to have Swat Teams is not the answer to a better world and we should be very concerned!
History is repeating itself. What we see now I call "the decline and fall of the Western Empire" . And the "Dark Ages" have already started again, but it will get much darker then ever before!

Daniel 9v4 I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:
"Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. 6We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.
7"Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame””the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness to you. 8We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame, Lord, because we have sinned against you. 9The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him; 10we have not obeyed the Lord our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets. 11All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you.

But let's not forget that "our Redeemer lives" !!

More than 100 times in the Bible, God commanded people "Don’t be afraid.” Fear is always going to be a struggle for us. Fear is a strong emotion, and we're all control freaks at heart. Jesus knows that. And because of that awful night in Gethsemane, he knows firsthand what fear is like. In spite of that, he can still tell us, "Don't be afraid.” We have to acknowledge that fear is too strong for us, so only God can handle it. We have to turn our fears over to him, remembering that he is all-power, all-knowing, and always in control. Fear is a lifelong battle, but God is our lifelong Protector. He promised to never abandon or forsake us. When we are secure in his love and salvation, nothing can snatch us from him, not even death. By holding tightly to God, no matter what, we will make it through, in spite of our fear. Why talk about what the devil is doing, why not talk about what God is doing! Worry is like a rocking chair, it keeps you busy but it never gets you anywhere.

Thank you brother Bill I agree, but...
I often go hiking in the back country so it is always very important for me to read the weather forecast and watch out for the signs that could bring bad weather. If bad weather is coming I have to prepare myself and need wisdom. Of course it is still natural to be a bit concerned.
It is similar in my walk with the Lord. We should read the signs properly and we need to prepare ourselves, eg take on the full armor of God etc and ask for His wisdom . We need to be like the five wise virgins etc. We know that Jesus slept in the midst of the storm but his disciples were afraid. My faith is not as perfect that I could sleep through any storm. We need to encourage each other with the Word of God and pray. Blessings to all!
