I don't continuing posting on here again, but what i am going through in my soul is not good. A few years ago I posted about my great fear of falling away from the Lord and i am just not getting any better. I have got hardened more towards God and struggling just to believe and my heart has just more evil and wicked. I have cried out to God so much the past couple of years, but i just can't seem to overcome this. Their have been a few times when i have seemed to get better over the past few years and it gave me a little hope. But, what is going is scaring me, i don't know if this is the devil or if the Lord really has given me up. I hope not.

I was just talking to my wife and she had a dream that I committed suicide. When she told me that it scared me because over the past two weeks the feelings of fear and oppression have been so bad i have thought about it. I don't know if i need medication or if i really need deliverance by Christ, but please pray for my protection and guidance from the Lord, I want to be right with him. I don't understand why i am being so oppressed in my life, for like 7 years straight. Thank you for your prayers

Bible4life,

You have shared about how you feel, and what you perceive to be the condition of your heart.

What do you think God feels about you? What kind of thoughts does He have towards you? Where are you in His heart?

John,
When Satan or any of his dark horde come and whisper things in your ear, tell them to leave in Jesus name. Jesus is the name above all names, and dark spirits will leave when told to go in His name.

This is not theology, but fact! I was harassed from the age of about five till my mid twenties by literal Demons. Numerous Demons in various forms used to physically attack me at night. One of the main reasons for me coming to Christ was that a Christian told me that they (the Demons) must go in Jesus name. And they did! For twenty odd years these things had harassed me, and in the name of Jesus they literally fled. It was then that I knew that He (Jesus) was not a fairy tale, but was Truth and real and All Mighty. So I came to Him and gave all to Him.

Since the day I repented of my sins and gave my whole life to Jesus, I have not been physically attacked. I have however felt a dark evil presence on the odd occasion as if trying to intimidate me. I either tell them to go in Jesus name, or tell them that God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. They go instantly!

What I am trying to get at John is that you may not see or feel any Demonic presence, but the fact that you are getting thoughts of fear and suicide tells me that those thoughts are coming from below and not from above. Remember John, that Satan does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. But Jesus has come that you (John) may have life, and that you may have it more abundantly.

So John, if you have not already, repent of all your sins and give your whole life without exception to Jesus, to do as He will with it. Then if the Devil still comes to whisper lies in your ears, tell him you are a child of God and that you will no longer listen to word of his again. Go in Jesus name!!

Dear Brother John:

I would encourage you to reread what Brother Steve shared in his testimony. He said two key things about repentance that bear much weight when it comes to demonic oppression.

When we commit our lives to Christ by faith and call upon the name of the Lord turning from our sin and confessing them the word of God and His promise is true brother, we are saved.

However, even in my own life, there were AREAS in my life where I was oppressed. The reason for the oppression was due to open doors in my life through various sins and things I had been involved in. In a nut shell, I needed deliverance from demonic oppression.

Over many months after committing to being set free and closing these open doors I went on periodic fasts. I would go in my room and begin to pray and simply ask God to show me areas in my life and past that might be attributing to the oppression.

I will tell you John, that God is faithful, Jesus came to set the oppressed free. The Holy Spirit began to reveal things in my life, one by one, and as a matter of fact I was told to get a pad of paper and pen and document these things/sin/areas.

As the Spirit would reveal them, I wrote them down, and then I would confess the sin to God, renounce the sin and the oppression/hold over my life, and lastly put those sins under the atoning cleansing freeing blood of Jesus.

The key was I did this by the SIMPLE faith that i exercised when I was saved 11 years prior.

Oppression is due to open doors brother. I do not want to get into a debate whether Christians can be oppressed, but I testify to you in Jesus name, I had issues in my life that were sucking me dry, trying to destroy me and steal my joy.

Many times when people get saved brother they just ask God to forgive all their sins and just make a generic blanket confession. Confession and ultimate deliverance must be specific, and once we acknowledge these areas from our past and renounce them and put them under the blood that was shed to set us free, it is DONE.

Father God, we ask in Jesus name that you would cover Johns mind right now in the precious blood of Jesus. Father send ministering angels to his side right now and put your hedge of protection around his mind, thoughts, and spirit in Jesus name, Father God. Lord, we ask, as your body, in agreement Father God that you would have mercy on our brother John Lord God, Mercy Lord. You have promised in your word Lord that if only two would come together in agreement and ask anything in Your Sons name that You would hear us Father, and we thank You Lord that You hear us and that we ALREADY Father God have the PETITION that we DESIRE in Jesus Name.

Lord we ask that You would minister to John, lead him, direct him Lord in the way he should go as he looks to You Father God. Lord, right now in Jesus name we ask that You quicken his Faith Father God, make your voice clear Lord.

Now Lord, we confess as Your body that if we ask anything in Your name according to Your will You hear us Lord, and we speak in the power and name of Jesus to the spirits of fear, doubt, unbelief, condemnation, suicide, and the lying spirit to take their hands off John in Jesus name, and we bind their activity and their voices in Johns mind Lord and we cast down their lies and their words in Jesus name.

Father, send laborers to John, Lord he needs exhortation in Jesus name Lord, thank you Father for your Holy Spirit being with him and in him Lord for greater is He that is within John than he that is in this fallen world Lord.

Lord if there are open doors of oppression Lord, reveal them to John by Your Spirit Lord that he may confess, acknowledge, renounce, these sins and put them under the blood of Jesus!

Lord we also come against every word, thought, whispering, backbiting, unrighteous judgement, and gossip over John right now Father God that has spoken death and cursing into his life, mind, spirit, family, and ministry as a believer in Jesus Christ.

Lord anything that speaks not blessing and life IS A LIE IN JESUS NAME Father God, it is NOT from above but beneath Lord. We speak Lord life in Christ Jesus we speak blessing in Christ Jesus over John Lord in One common faith, unity, spirit, and accord Lord as the 120 in the upper room Lord we speak in agreement and we ask that you would keep John in Your holy care and keeping Lord for WHOM THE SON SETS FREE Father God IS FREE.

Lord, thank for each and every brother and sister here at SI Lord that You have led here Lord, thank You Father for their intercessions and supplications Father for John and for all the other needs that have been presented Lord.

Lord we know that you are coming back for a spotless bride Lord, Lord make us ready Lord, thank you for Your patience, longsuffering, and forebearance Lord in our lives Lord, Father in Jesus name cause us to do likewise Lord, bind us as Your people Lord together with chords that cannot be broken Lord. Lord may each and everyone of us and our families, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and enemies look at us and know Father God that we ARE Yours In Jesus name Father God by OUR LOVE for one another Lord.

Lord cause us this very hour Father to be sober, vigilant, watchful, and prayerful Lord. Lord cause us not to labor in vain Lord, Lord You must build Your house make us willing Lord, make us useful vessels Lord if not for our own sakes Lord, do it for John Lord, in Jesus name. Amen Father

Thank you Lord for the precious and wise words of encouragement Lord

Hey guys sorry I waited so long to respond. I truly appreciate your concern for me and your prayers and wisdom. The past week I have got better and a few times I was encouraged by the word of God and I believe by His Spirit. I have done a few things physically to help myself like cutting out caffeine for the most part I was drinking coffee way to much. I also have been taking 5htp,bcomplex, multivitamin and vitamin c on a daily basis and these things have helped a little for my anxiety, but still the spiritual struggles are still their even taking those just mind is more calm. I bought a Bible promise book and a devotional. Also I have been praying a lot and seeking the Lord in the word more. But, i know it is far from over. But, to what you guys commented on. The way i think God thinks and feels about me especially the past year and the last few years ago is that he might love me, but has rejected me because of my sin in the past and i feel as if he is not coming back to me because i began to believe you can lose your salvation the past few years so that is kind of where i struggle with how God views me, but at the same time I am trying to believe that he has forgiven since i confessed my sin. That is my only hope that through Christ all my sins can be forgiven and that is what i am trying to stand on right now. Brothers your testimonies of the oppression from the devil I definitely understand how hard it is and I think that it makes sense that i need to seek God about what is causing all of this oppression and i specifically been praying about that and i am trying to figure what exactly is the issue. But, hey i really appreciate your guys wisdom and i hope i take it and use it.

Hey, guys you know I have had a few days of hope since I first posted this prayer request and I have been doing a little better and been still seeking the Lord and as I been examine myself and knowing how bad my thoughts have been the past few years and how they are now I just know my heart is not right with God or man. Their is not much love in my heart and Ijust have a wicked heart. I am a very selfish person and I know this and I have confessed these inner struggles of my heart with the Lord so many times, but my heart hasn't got any better. I desire the Lord so much I just want to be delivered can you please keep me in prayer for deliverance from my sins.

Brother John,
You need to not keep looking to your self and your sins. Repent of your sins and die to self and then keep looking to God.

The Devil wants you to keep looking at these things so that your eyes are off God. So that you look down instead of up. Do not listen to him. Repent of your sins, then forget about them.

"Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in unchanging love. He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea." Micah 7:18-19

There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh.

To be carnally minded is death.

Keep these in mind, brother. Any of us would admit that we, on our best days, are really no better than we are on our worst. There is none righteous. We will never arrive. We are, like Paul said, pressing toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Jesus Christ.
So, the fact that you feel as if you should have arrived somehow is condemnation on yourself. It is an expectation of a righteousness that really is not. So, as the Scripture urges you, "walk in the Spirit" and "do not mind the things of the flesh". Do not attend to them, even when they loom large as beams in your own eye. See them, confess them, be honest before and to God, and then keep running toward that mark. You are burdened with many things. Choose the better thing that will not be taken from you. Set aside those besetting, sidetracking things -- however frequently they may present themselves -- and keep running the race with patience. You are not alone. Many witnesses cheer you on, so to speak, hoping for you, convinced of better things for you concerning salvation.

S

Brother, if Jesus be God, and He died for u. That's enough to know that every sin can be pardoned. If God does not want to pardon u, he won't even let u know that u're a sinner. Now if God said in his word that he will forgive those that repent and confess, u had been the greatest blasphemer to think God has not forgiven. And if u're not sure whether u've repent then do this. Wake up in the morning and say:GOD i repent today. And just for today. Yesterday is gone, and i'm not sure of tomorrow, i'm even afraid that i may fall before noon, but lord for now that i'm talking to u, i'm a christian, and in this i rejoice.
People question me when i tell then about my salvation story. I was walking the road one day my mind was troubled as to whether God will accept me, i got angry and told God, God whether u like it or not i'm ur child from today. That was all, i had no feeling, no assurance, but kept doing all a christian should do. And today the testimony of the grace of God, the gifts of the spirit, and a blessed assurance overflows in me. Is not whether God want to accept u or not, is whether u want to accept his mercy and love or not.

Is there something that you think God is telling you to do, or something you have to make right, such as paying a debt back, or an apology, or anything else? Because such things can keep us out of God's presence, even though He is more willing to commune with you than you are with Him. I have struggled with virtually the same problems for quite some time now, and I know the only answer is obedience; do ANYTHING He tells you; I have had to pay back some people I owed money to, and make some very awkward apologies. But every time I do one of these things, I know I am doing God's will. Be encouraged, and don't listen to the enemy's voice that God has abandoned you. He is more loving and patient than you can imagine.

Bible4life,

1. First off - I wanna encourage you by saying that there are many Christians who have struggled with similar issues (including myself), some of whom have shared their journey here on this forum. So there is definitely a way out, and there is hope for you.

2. From your previous two posts in this thread, it is clear that:

(i) Your image of God our Father needs healing. You are not seeing Him as the loving Father that He is.

(ii) You don't know who you are in Christ. You are not rooted in your TRUE identity in Him, nor are you rooted in His love.

If you think that God has rejected you, and that you are currently subjected to His condemnation - how could you possibly feel good, or have the confidence to approach Him?

Likewise - if you feel that you're barely hanging onto God, always on the verge of falling into the abyss of perdition, how could you possibly be happy in your Christian journey?

3. You need to know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

If the joy and peace promised by Jesus remains elusive to you, that's probably a symptom of deeper underlying issues - such as having wrong ideas about God, poor grasp of the gospel, not understanding the purpose of the law, et cetera. Obviously major parts of your theology have not been doing you much good all these years! (for me - I was finally ready to do a massive re-evaluation of my theology after my life collapsed twice)

The good news is that Christ wants to impart the truth to you. Ask Him to open your eyes to the truth, and teach you to renew your mind with the truth.

4. On sin - you will never get anywhere focusing on sin, or trying to overcome it on your own. That's because that is contrary to the method appointed by God - THAT ONE WAY IS JESUS.

Someone once made a very perceptive comment: "Much focus on sin can be veiled idolatry of self. We keep looking to ourself for something that can only come from Christ (forgiveness, righteous standing, life to change) - something that comes dangerously close to, or is, self-worship."

Stop focusing on sin, your weakness and failures - and start focusing on Jesus! Focus on the fact that He loves you perfectly, fully accepts you, and is hugging you!!!

5. There are many good resources out there. However, it is true that the Bible in itself is sufficient. The book of Romans is pretty much the definitive guide on Christian living, but we can miss the message because we are understanding it through our paradigm, not God's. So other resources can assist us in grasping what God is really saying through His Word.

I suggest that you pick up Bill Gillham's "Lifetime Guarantee" - http://amzn.to/1vgOP7G It's a very down-to-earth, practical book on living the Christian life, renewing your mind and enjoying God's love. The author has a background in psychology, and his communication style reflects that - simple and lucid.

I'm not sure if his theology is 100% correct, but the core of the book is definitely correct. Just pray for God's discernment and guidance as He teaches you the truth.

Also - you might want to start affirming God's truths out loud. Our minds have a habit of drifting all over the place... the mind might start dwelling on our feelings, on our failures, on the past, on statements contrary to what God says. Reciting them out loud will help you to focus on God's truth.

The Gillhams have daily devotionals on their website at http://lifetime.org You might want to check out this entry - it offers practical advice on how to renew your mind with the truth: http://www.lifetime.org/2014/09/being-close/

I would strongly recommend NOT reading the article linked to by Finney. It is focusing on sin and self, not on Christ and will most likely lead to greater despair and condemnation. Bible4life, you need realize what Christ has already done for you, he's already forgiven all your trespasses and sins! If you haven't accepted Christ then do it! But if you have, then give no place to the devil! He will constantly work to get you to doubt your salvation. Resist the devil and he will flee from you!

Accepting Christ means you no longer rely on your own righteousness or lack thereof, you are justified in God's sight by Jesus!

Paul said he did not judge himself - good or bad.

When we are SO focused on our Self, we know Satan has the upper hand, because he is the accuser of the brethren

When we are SO focused on our Self, we know we squeeze Christ out, there is no room to have His mind.

Forget about your Self, focus on the Love and commands of Christ. Find someone who needs help, any kind of help, go out and help them in whatever way you can.

A major element of depression is that constant broken record in your mind in which you constantly review YOUR problems. Find someone and wear yourself out in helping them and focusing on their SOLUTIONS.

Some great truths to meditate upon (it's taken from a Neil Anderson book, mildly modified):

Somebody is thinking of you
Somebody is caring about you
Somebody is caring for you
Somebody longs for you
Somebody wants to talk to you
Somebody wants to be with you
Somebody wants to listen to you
Somebody wants to hold your hand
Somebody is protecting you
Somebody is working for your good
Somebody is celebrating your successes
Somebody wants to give you a gift
Somebody thinks you are a gift
Somebody wants to hold you in His arms
Somebody wants to make you the best you can be
Somebody is on your side and is pulling for you today
Somebody loves you
Somebody wants to laugh with you
Somebody wants to cry with you
Somebody wants to tell you how much He cares
Somebody wants to share His life with you
Somebody wants to be your friend
Somebody died to make that friendship possible
Somebody loves you as His wonderful creation
Somebody wants you to know that He is there for you
Somebody is always thinking about you
Somebody wants you to trust Him... today

I have to strongly rebuke you for this, armranger. It is not a sin to doubt that you are saved. If someone is struggling with this question, the best thing to do is examine yourself to see if you are in the faith. 1 John says "If our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things." It is quite evident that this man's conscience is condemning him, therefore the best thing to do is remove the barriers of unrepented sin by confession and restitution. This is the only way to peace with God, not "accepting Jesus", a term which, incidentally, cannot be found in the Bible. It is true a person must have faith, but as God said to me quite some time ago, "faith requires obedience". As I see it, Finney had 500,000 people truly born again from his preaching alone, and he preached repentance. In our day and age, people are told to just "accept Jesus" and their lives are by and large no different than before. They struggle with guilt and condemnation, fruitlessness and confusion. You MUST repent.

S

Thanks guys again. it is kind of funny it was Charles Finney's preaching that started my doubting my salvation or that i lost it a few years back. Whether or not i agree with him or not I do agree that we should examine ourselves. But, I see also that I could misunderstand obedience to the Lord and look to what i am doing as my basis of my salvation. So for me and even my study of scripture i believe salvation is by trusting in Christ's atonement on the cross in my place and in his resurrection from the dead. That is what justifies us before God and his has to be in Christ and nothing else. Now the issues of good works in a true believer is because regeneration and salvation taken place or a new creature, that is the fruit of being saved. Their was a time in my life where was looking unto Jesus it was as if my mind was always focused on him in everything i did and i think that one of my struggles is i am not trusting like i use to.

D
drifter

From observation of churches and people, I see little evidence of true conversion in most peoples lives. There are whole churches I have been in with no born again people. Today we are taught to "just believe". And you see widespread apostasy, true seekers struggling for acceptance by God, and not finding it because they are told they already have it. Under Finney's preaching, people got truly born again. He might have had some sour medicine, but it worked. Can you see Peter or Paul telling someone who has just asked them the desperate question "what must I do to be saved?!" "Oh, just read this book about your identity in Christ." ?

Here is another article by William Booth you might find helpful:
http://www.lastdaysministries.org/Groups/1000087839/Last_Days_Ministries/Articles/Other_Authors/How_To_Find/How_To_Find.aspx

A

Can you see Peter or Paul telling someone who has just asked them the desperate question "what must I do to be saved?!" "Oh, just read this book about your identity in Christ." ?

Obviously they wouldn't tell them that, and neither would anyone today. You only have your identity in Christ AFTER you're saved. You're comparing apples and oranges.

While I haven't read all of Finney's sermons or writing, I have read a fair amount. He from what I can tell largely preaches an old testament religion with a little of Christ mixed in here and there.

The article you linked to "Breaking up the fallow ground" never mentions the name Jesus even once. It does mention Christ twice, but only in connection with someone denying themselves something for Christ. Not once is it mentioned about Christ's work on the cross and his sacrifice. The article was written as if Christ had never died for the sins of the world! I think that is a terrible disgrace. That is what I mean by old testament religion.

Y
yuehan

I came across this gem today, which is in perfect agreement with what amranger shared earlier. From Charles Spurgeon:

Now I will give the poor sinner a means of detecting Satan, so that he may know whether his convictions are from the Holy Spirit, or merely the bellowing of hell in his ears. In the first place, you may be always sure that that which comes from the devil will make you look at yourselves and not at Christ. The Holy Spirit's work is to turn our eyes from ourselves to Jesus Christ, but the enemy's work is the very opposite.

Nine out of ten of the insinuations of the devil have to do with ourselves. "You are guilty," says the devil ”” that is self. "You have not faith" ”” that is self. "You do not repent enough" ”” that is self. "You have got such a wavering hold of Christ" ”” that is self. "You have none of the joy of the Spirit, and therefore cannot be one of His" ”” that is self. Thus the devil begins picking holes in us; whereas the Holy Spirit takes self entirely away, and tells us that we are "nothing at all", but that "Jesus Christ is all in all."

D
drifter

Yeah, I guess it's better to struggle on fruitlessly in the modern antinomian religion that is so prevalent today. Finney brought people to Christ, whereas people like Billy Graham produce a huge amount (something like 80%) of backsliders. Antinomianism is totally antichristian. You cannot throw away the law. "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul." Psalm 19:7. This is as true today as it was when King David wrote it. People do not get saved a different way in the New Testament era as the did in the Old Testament era. I am not saying that you can be saved by keeping the Ten Commandments, but the Law is a mirror to show you yourself, and what you need to do to get right with God. For example, if you have stolen from someone when you were unsaved, you must go and repay them if you want to continue with God. If you don't, He will withdraw His presence. If someone says "all you need to do is believe" that is another gospel, another spirit. Read James. Even the devils believe, and they are not saved.

D
drifter

P.S. Ravenhill, Tozer, and practically every other preacher on this website preaches "old testament religion".

On antinomianism v.s. legalism:

"Antinomianism and Legalism are not opposites of one another; they are both opposites of the grace of God in the gospel." (Sinclair Ferguson)

Romans offers an excellent exposition on the gospel, and answers these issues comprehensively.

Check this out - an American missionary's testimony on how the truth of the gospel set him free from lust and pornogrpahy (he provides a great exposition on Romans too):

I humbly apologize for offending you in any way, amranger. My statements can seem a bit strong at times, and I can be a bit brash. Let's both remember that this post was started by someone who asked for help. I am just trying to help. The way I am trying to do that is showing bible4life that sometimes (not always) we can't get through to God because of unrepented sin. Finney's article just tells people how to do that.

My definition of salvation is a right relationship with God. In the Old Testament redeemed people looked forward to Christ's sacrifice, in New Testament times, we look back. It is always by faith. The blood of bulls and goats could never take away sin. If we could be brought into a right relationship with God by Old Testament sacrifices, Jesus would not have had to come to earth.

God Bless, -Nigel

The oppression i am dealing has been slowly kind of getting worse and worse over the past few months. A couple months ago I had this great fear or suicidal type spirit oppressing me and i asked for prayer here. Then I noticed i started having the same oppression from two years ago when i felt like i was having evil spirits like i can feel come into my flesh or affecting my body again, i can actually feel something come into my flesh and if i fall into sin its seems it gets worse. I have been looking to see what is the issue with me and what i am doing wrong in my life. One of things i have noticed is that i have lost a lot of love in my heart towards others. Also when i first started my job two years ago i was very Christ minded and i was witnessing to others a lot and avoiding sin at all costs, but over the past few months especially i have become i believe very prideful at my job and been at times two serious about it and it has effected my devotional time with the Lord and just keeping me from being the person i want to be n Christ, but at the same time i will be honest i have examined myself so much the past three years on a daily basis and even during this time I really have been so weak spiritually to even overcome these sins of mine, its as if it was going to happen no matter what. Because i have aimlessly tried overcoming my sins the past few years to seem to fall right back into them.

Their is one thing i have fully realized during this time is that I think that i am not truly repenting. I am trying stop sinning so i don't experience such torment in my life anymore. Don't get me wrong I don't want to give into these sins, but i feel i don't real repentance, sometimes i feel like i am stopping just out of fear of falling again. But my heart desires to honor the Lord still, but i need to be restored in my heart. But, i really don't know what is wrong with me for sure. I know i struggle with many inner sins bad thoughts, anger, pride, judgmentalnist and they are worse then they have ever been in my eleven years of my christian profession.

Hi Bible4life,

The fact is that you will never overcome sin by your own flesh (c.f. Romans 7) - it is a method bound to fail. You are depending on your strength to please God - that's not the Christian life.

Shift your dependence to Jesus! Focus your thoughts on Him - trust that He loves you, and that He lives in you. You will then experience the abundant supply of His life to you.

The biblical meaning of repentance is very different to what you are assuming here. It is not about trying to correct our mistakes, overcoming our sins, or be a better person. If you look up the respective Hebrew and Greek words, repentance involves turning to God - you turn your face towards Him.

Merely feeling remorse for sin without turning your face to God is not biblical repentance. An important point to emphasize: You don't clean up your sins in order to turn to God, but you turn to God to overcome sin (as illustrated in the parable of the prodigal son).

You need to stop thinking about sin, and stop reviewing your sins and your emotions. Instead, think of Jesus - who *unconditionally* loves you. His love involves fully accepting you, made possible by His finished work on the cross.

So stop being sin-conscious - be Christ-conscious!

Looking down has not helped you all these years - using the same method again and again will not yield different results (that's an Einstein quote). So why not try looking up? That's the only way (John 14:6)... and it works!

I had earlier recommended Bill Gillham's "Lifetime Guarantee" book. Have you grabbed a copy yet?

I also posted Dustin Horstmann's testimony on the previous page (in two parts). He describes a similar predicament to you, and shares how he learnt to turn to Christ to overcome his pornography addiction. He provides an excellent exposition of the gospel too - that will help show you the errors in your understanding concerning the faith.

Fundamentally, your flawed understanding of God and His gospel has hindered you from being confident in His love and His acceptance. All your struggles (thoughts, oppressions, sinful habits) are only symptoms of the "misbeliefs" which you have adopted. You won't get anywhere trying to nip the symptoms - you have to address the root, that is to replace those misbeliefs with the truth.

God wants to heal your misunderstanding of Him and His Word. That will impart the life, joy, peace and freedom which you crave for. Be open to Him - give God a chance to lead you to the truth.

So (i) ask God to teach you the truth, and then (ii) renew your mind with the truth. Set aside 5 to 10 minutes a day, and meditate on truths - such as God loves you, you are dead to sin and Christ lives in you. Meditate on what these truths mean, and trust God that these truths are TRUE!

This is a good devotional on how to renew your mind: http://www.lifetime.org/2014/09/being-close/

Bible, may I ask:

How old are you, little brother?

Are you married? Kids?

What kind of work do you do?

And, are you open to advice and not only prayer?

S

Yes this is true you can't overcome this in your own efforts, strength or by self at all.

Do you have unholy desires?

Are you ready for this? GOD Does not expect you to deal with them. YOU CAN NOT!!

This is why Christ died because you could not!!!

Here are some quotes from Dustin Horstmann's testimony

When I wasn't established in the purpose of the Law in relationship to the gospel, I felt that because I was continually giving into temptation, I wasn't trying hard enough, and so I wasn't doing my part in my relationship with God. I was living under the Law because I felt I had to try harder to be accepted by God. I didn't realize that that sincere desire was keeping me from presently experiencing the Life of the Spirit to walk free of sinful passions.

Then the Father showed me His love. His love was to give me His Son to live through His Life.

But in order to experience this love, I needed to have a biblical understanding of the purpose of the Law. It was given to show me my helplessness so that I would trust in Christ alone for acceptance. It was not given to encourage me to try harder, which nullifies grace. And so trusting Christ alone as my acceptance from moment to moment, and not my efforts, I am able to experience the power of the Spirit to walk in new Life from moment to moment.

I learned about God's love when I learned He never wanted the Law to be on my shoulders as it was. It was always to point me to His Son so that I could see His love expressed in forgiveness and new Life.

God showed me the love of a Christ who is always with me because He's always my strength. He showed me that He has given me His Son to live through, right here and now. What great love!

I never wanted to be a person who relied in my own works. I felt like the Father was putting the Law on my shoulders because I wasn't strongly established in the Word concerning the purpose of the Law, the gospel, faith and the power of the Holy Spirit.

I believed that righteousness was a free gift but because my foundation wasn't established, in the moment of temptation, I would shift from trusting Christ alone for acceptance and trust in my efforts to overcome my evil passions.

I didn't realize that this very thing kept me in bondage to those evil passions because the Spirit doesn't work while our mind is set on the flesh by trusting our self.

I saw God's love when The Holy Spirit revealed to me that He wasn't putting the Law on my shoulders to keep. He showed me that the Law rather is to show me my helpless bondage to sin so that I would my need for His Son-not so that I would try harder, which doesn't honor Christ.

God wanted me to freely turn to His Son and behold the glory of His love for me in the face of His Son. When I saw this, I immediately turned to Him, for I am born again and desire to live by faith. I just needed to be established in the truth and that is what I desire for you.

Before, when I faced temptation, my faith was in myself to say no to my desires. "My desires are my responsibility." But the Lord came to me and basically said, "You don't have the power to make yourself the kind of loving person whose fruit is healthy, Godly desires. Therefore, glorify the Righteous One."

We do NOT have the power to change any desire we have. In fact we should not even try. Christ has fully dwelt with all of our desires on the cross. All of our old desires were taken away and were destroyed by Christ on the Cross. Now we have His Life and His Godly desires in Him.

The enemy wanted me to believe that I could and had to try to overcome my temptations before God would be pleased. But I knew I had to stop trying all together and look to Christ as my victory in order to experience His victory. I couldn't trust my effort and His at the same time.

Charles Spurgeon on detecting the voice of the devil:

"Now I will give the poor sinner a means of detecting Satan, so he may know whether his convictions are from the Holy Spirit, or merely the bellowing of hell in his ears. In the first place, you may always be sure that that which comes from the devil will make you look at yourselves and not at Christ. The Holy Spirit's work is to turn our eyes from ourselves to Jesus Christ, but the enemy's work is the very opposite. Nine out of ten of the insinuations of the devil have to do with ourselves… "You do not repent enough"" that is self. "You have got such a wavering hold of Christ" that is self. Thus the devil begins picking holes in us; whereas the Holy Spirit takes self entirely away, and tells us that we are "nothing at all, - but that "Jesus Christ is all in all."

"Nothing is to be trusted to but the finished work of Jesus Christ upon Calvary's bloody tree! No feelings, no emotion, no believing, no conversion, even, must ever be put into the place of that one eternal Rock of refuge””the blood and merit of Jesus Christ! Fly there, poor Soul! Whatever you are, or are not, fly there! Cast your guilty self on Christ and rest there, for there alone can you find salvation! Learn this lesson - not to trust Christ because you repent, but trust Christ to make you repent””not to come to Christ because you have a broken heart, but to come to Him that He may give you a broken heart - not to come to Him because you are fit to come, but to come to Him because you are unfit to come! Your fitness is your unfitness. Your qualification is your lack of qualification. You are to be nothing, in fact, and to come to Christ as nothing - and when you so come, then will repentance come!"

Eph. 1:17-20,"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,"

If it's any help John I went through a terrifying time like this, I ended up walking the streets at night for 6 months in a city, I was depressed and extremely scared and wondering where Christ had gone in my life. As the love I once had for Christ and others had gone from me.
I didn't know at this time it was the beginning of Christian maturity. This being brought into the wilderness and led to a place where God seemingly doesn't exist and being dumped there was something I never expected a loving God to do. I had previously only ever known the exuberance of the spiritual life where I would pray for others and see immediate healing. The wilderness is something we hardly hear people talking about. It's a place for his special ones, his loved ones.

The mother eagle throws it's child out of the nest much to the terror of the poor thing. If you think God is different from the eagle it created then you haven't experienced God's full nature... the one who catapults a person into the wilderness without food and water.

Reading the Bible didn't work for me and neither did praying. That was a most frightening thing,
I can see now that true maturity and growth comes through discipline and obedience, of hearing the still small voice of God and obeying him and not through relying upon external resources that don't have the power in themselves to convert us to a life of obedience and the dethroning of our self life, the life that hates God.

see if this matches anything Christ is saying to you , if you would have known me years ago I would have been only preaching faith and grace to you.

I refer to self discipline as a means to reaching the destination God wants us to move to and not a life of never reaching it.
