Is Homosexual fornication "worse" than plain old fornication?

T
TMK

Sometimes weird things pop in my mind when I am driving and this question did so today.

The Church seems to stress the homosexual sort a lot more; just wondering if there is good reason for that.

Don't know stats but I suspect the plain old type is far far more rampant.

He came into his own, but his own received him not.

He who does not believe is already judged. ... And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.

Fornication via heterosexual or homosexual means is the pursuit of the unjust. Both lusts of the flesh are tools of deceit also of the prince of the power of the air. Heterosexual fornication is ubiquitous to the point of making us callous in recognizing and agonizing over it. Homosexual fornication is still salacious and provokes strong emotions; it hasn't reached the commonplace yet to the extent that no one cares. The church "stressing [over] the homosexual sort a lot more" is as much a symptom of the church's deadness to what grieves the Holy Spirit as it is to hypocrisy and pragmatism. But, as we give it time, I'm sure the great swell of the church will come to ignore homosexuality as much as it does heterosexual fornication.

A

I would say yes, it is worse.

Because heterosexual sex is the way God designed things. So normal fornication is doing the act as God designed things at the wrong time and conditions.

Homosexual activity is against nature (Romans 1:26) it is acts that are always wrong under any circumstances, in addition to being fornication.

That would be my short answer.

The other side of this issue is that the church has largely turned into the policemen of society, pointing out sin and error. The church seems to largely be on the negative side of things, don't, don't, don't etc.

I think there should be a lot more promotion and examples of great relationships, normal God-blessed lives as God intended things to be. The demonstration of the provision of God is sorely lacking, so as a result we see more and more people turning to wrong lifestyles because of the church's failing to appropriate and demonstrate these things.

Sin is sin. If you break one commandment, you've broken them all.

"Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?" Proverbs 6:27 This is referring to adultery.

Contrast this with what Paul said about homosexuals:

"And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another..." Romans 1:27

O
Oracio

All sin is eternally damning, but there are different degrees of sin in God's sight. Jesus said it will be worse for some than for others in hell.

I'd compare the question at hand to these questions, "Is bestiality worse than heterosexual fornication? Or, "Are orgies worse than fornication between one man and one woman?"

All sin is vile in God's sight, but not all sin is equally vile.

That being said, we are not to treat homosexuals with any less respect or love than other sinners, considering that homosexuality is also lumped together in 1Cor.6:9-10 with fornication and adultery.

We must reach out to homosexuals with the same compassion with which we are to reach out to all other lost souls.

brother.....in the past weeks, I've come to like you, and love you in Christ.

so.....what i'm about to write, I write in love...okay?

first, you gotta edit the post header line, because when I read it....my reflexive response is..."I dunno, you tell me".

and the your last line:

"Don't know stats but I suspect the plain old type is far far more rampant. "

ya think?

i'm sorry if my response reeks of sarcasm, but....you aren't posting while intoxicated, are you?

liquor? pain pills?...don't be cross me with me, please, but when you write, "Sometimes weird things pop in my mind...."......I get concerned, in His love, neil

It's only worse for some people if they knew the gospel but didn't obey it. "And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes." Luke 12:47
You are judged by that standard, if you have light (the revealed will of God) or not.

you too brother? contain yourself, we got sisters on this forum, they don't want to be reading that mess.

i'm not being hardcore on you brother, but this is a ridiculous thread that should die, coz as I said not only do we have sisters on this forum, its also global.

the worlds aflame right now, and this is what holds "conversation"? Love you Oracio, neil

Simmer down there Neil. Perfectly sober here!

My comment about "normal fornication" being more rampant was rhetorical. It is obviously more rampant. My point being that society may be much more damaged by it than by the homosexual type just by sheer numbers and thereby its effects. Think of the single mother problem we have.

Oracio's comment was also rhetorical. Obviously bestiality is worse.

The world may indeed be aflame but this is one of the major issues fanning the fires.

I guess my whole point is that if the church came down as hard as plain old fornication as it does with the homosexual variety, homosexuals are more likely to take our warnings seriously.

Neil, I don't believe that the topic of homosexuality is invalid as a discussion on this forum, especially considering where things are heading in the west regarding this issue. With all due respect I don't see my post as being out of line here. I did not go into detail regarding those sins. Those two sins are mentioned and condemned in the Bible. But we may have to agree to disagree. Blessings to you Neil.

I believe that's a valid point worthy of serious consideration.

Better question might be, since the US of A is passing laws were homosexuals can marry, is it still fornication? We do have to obey mans laws, right? Homosexual fornication "if they marry" will probably be a thing of the past, if we are to live by and obey mans laws.

I think there's two ways to look at it.

Individually sin is sin, whether it manifests it's self in lying, stealing, cheating on your spouse, or homosexual relations. The root problem is the same for everyone. It leads to the same hell, but also has the same cure.

In a society however, certain sins begin to appear with greater acceptance as that society nears its end. Two of those would be abortion or infanticide and homosexuality.

People are getting used to the dark (Quote: Vance Havner) which is why some sins no longer shock people as they used to.

I was pretty old - at least a teen before I ever heard the word homosexual, lesbian or knew what it even meant. If a couple fornicated it was whispered about not celebrated. If a girl had a baby out of wedlock she was whisked off to an unwed mothers home and the child put up for adoption - today they will celebrate its birth and have baby showers for the mom and baby. Pictures of half-naked women was considered porn - today they appear on advertisements, shows and it is OK.

And we sigh. And I wonder how much worse can people get. Then I read of men who will molest a small girl and I get angry - I would like to wring that guys's neck! Reckon Jesus was more merciful - He would tie a millstone around his neck and throw him into the water...

Lord, have mercy!

PS: In case you wonder, I was born in 1947 and have accumulated a lot of memories.

The whole reason sin is sin and condemned by the law of a loving God is that the consequences are deadly after being first hurtful.

Some sins are quiet and sneaky, easily hidden, easily rationalized into an old mental file cabinet. But these sins have consequences, shutting the sinner off from the blessings of humility, hearing God, understanding mysteries, communing with the Author and Lover of their soul.

They may have a bright smile, be able to quote scripture, pray in a public meeting... but have a dark secret vacuum inside. I have been one of those.

I have a good friend who is a devoted Christian with an effective ministry and a wide open love for God and His people. But in his younger years he was a horrible person with way too much experience in every type of open sin. The details are too awful to even mention here.

The result is that despite the wonderful forgiveness he enjoys, he bears the physical and mental scars of the things he did. They are permanent scars and he would be the first to tell any man or woman that sin is devastating, set against your life, your happiness, your peace, and your power. What you give to Satan is very difficult to reclaim. Many try and fail.

So how does this relate to the discussion? Very simple, the sins people commit will be extremely difficult to undo. Sometimes it is possible to contract an incurable disease, sometimes a man will shy away from preaching a hard line on fornication because his former conquests are close by and he fears the embarrassment. Sometimes a man has a child by a woman not his wife- "It was just once, we got carried away!" And now a lifetime of guilt and regret greets his mind every morning.

Sexual sins involve other people, and people sin together setting the fires of hell on a two for one! All the more when fueled by lust turning to resentment, rage and revenge. Little sins beget bigger sins, and big sins put people to death.

Some fornication results in a pregnancy and the parents are able to successfully marry and love the child properly. Forgiveness can come easily, a traditional responsible marriage partnership can follow. But rarely do things line up like that. The further from nature one strays, the more destructive will the dalliance be. Not many homosexuals leave their lifestyle and pursue a holy wedded life with a woman.

Sins can be washed away by the Blood of the Savior, but sins' consequences can haunt a man or woman to the last breath.

Yes that is the correct view of looking at it. Homosexuality is a sin in society that will bring God's judgement soon eg Sodom.

If a preacher or Church does not talk about individual sin then it has no right to talk about sin in this society.

Well, here we go! The mayor of Houston is demanding the local pastors to turn over all their sermons, notes, and private correspondence that realates to preaching against homosexuality.

The city passed an ordinance. Welcome to communist East Germany.

Just read this article and thought it was worth sharing here:

In retrospect, I think one reason why many Christians don't say as much about heterosexual fornication is because it is not paraded on our streets like homosexuality is. Not saying that's an excuse but just making an observation.

The thought came to mind, imagine if more Christians would suddenly begin to rise up and take to the streets with their own kind of gospel-parades, proclaiming the gospel and preaching against all sin, including heterosexual fornication and homosexuality. I'm reminded of the Salvation Army because that's what they did in their beginnings in the 19th century and into the early 20th century. They had revival, though they were also severely persecuted at times.

G

I read that, too...

I also keep wondering if what I post on SI, or on FB will be used by some gov agency to convict me of being a radical, a terrorist because I believe in eternal punishment, in right and wrong and being verbal about it, or for simply being a Biblical Christian. I suspect it will - that it is not a question of if but when.

God bless all who will not allow the devil's henchmen to distract you from proclaiming the whole Counsel of Jesus Christ.

Count on it. Ever heard of Fusion Centers? The government is busy gathering every piece of data they can about every citizen they can. The NSA and other alphabet agencies do wholesale spying on everybody. Having a label like "religious fundamentalist" puts you on the top of the list. Especially if you commit "hate crimes", like telling people their lifestyles are sinful (i.e. homosexuality).

S
Sidewalk

We in the West have enjoyed "Freedom of Religion" for a long time. We may see it as some kind of fundamental human right, but it is not. It exists only because some have put their lives on the line to secure it, and each generation that wants to keep it will be called upon to do the same.

Satan does not rest. Our voices against sin are like fingernails on the blackboard to him, and he stirs his people to fight us at every point.

"So, officer you want to see my notes and sermons on homosexuality? I don't really have any, I don't have any authority to write anything like that. I just borrowed my notes from another writer, a guy named Paul who is no longer living here..."

The homosexual act is according to Scripture, the fruit of a life lived in full subjection to the lust perfected in the individual. And thus more grave than adultery.

Gen 19:5
And they called to Lot and said to him, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.”

Gen 19:6
So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him,

Gen 19:7
and said, "Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly!

Gen 19:8
"See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.”

Lot's response to the crowd proves this precept. The crowd had no desire for virgin women, they rejected what is natural for that which is unnatural.

Secondly, there is a "crowd" of individuals who are enflamed with the same desire. They willfully seek to overpower those who do not share in their nature.

Gen 19:9
And they said, "Stand back!” Then they said, "This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door.

We are beginning to see this manifestation in our own nation.

G

Nigel,

I suspect you are right.

Whenever I write anything in opposition to these hot-button social issues I know it could easily be used against me at some point in the future. Knowing this, do be silent in order to save my skin? or do I speak out and let the chips fall where they may? This is an issue I have to deal with every time I oppose sin.

D
drifter

I think discretion is wise. If the Lord leads you to say something, then I would say something. If not, silence is probably best. "In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise." Proverbs 10:19. With the amount of information gathering the government does, they probably already know you are a christian (fundamentalist), and have your name in a file somewhere. Personally, I have stopped worrying about persecution (and possibly martyrdom). If Jesus is truly with me, He'll give me the strength to overcome.
