H
hulsey

Dr. Myles Munroe, the leader of Bahamas Faith Ministries, was killed Sunday when the plane he was in hit a construction crane, exploded and crashed in the Bahamas.

Munroe's wife, Ruth, was also among the 9 victims of the crash in Grand Bahama, according to the Bahamas Tribune.

The small plane crashed after hitting the crane in a shipyard on approach to the Grand Bahama Airport, according to officials there.

I was naturally suprised this morning when I read the news concerning Dr. Munroe and his wife and the others. It's been several years now but I was present on two different occasions some years apart and heard Dr. Myles Munroe speak in person. Each time he carried more than a little anointing in the words that he spoke. The anointing one has for ministry is of course not the full measure of a man but the anointing he had from the Holy Spirit was real and substantiai on these occasions. I remember on these occasions he would linger and speak with and pray for people and he was gracious, and affiriming. I haven't kept up with him closely recently but I remember a man who was dignified and powerful but warm hearted and gentle. Precious in the Lord is the passing of his saints.

This is an interesting article on Myles Munroe and the kind of message he preached to the masses:

docs,

Thank you for the words you wrote. I didn't know much about Miles and was waiting for negativity about him but yours was the first kind response.

God bless,

I was saddened by the news. I know that there are many who would disagree with some of what Mr. Monroe taught. I am sure there are many who would agree with much of what Mr. Monroe taught. Ultimately his relationship with God will be judged by God Himself. In the meantime, I am sure his family and his friends are grieving and need our prayers.

I don't see how critiquing someones theology and/or life as soon as they pass away is showing Jesus to someone.

They are literally in the hands of God now. There is no room for judgement. Let's take heed, lest we fall.

Rember what paul said he said dont judge those who are out side the church god will judge ,,he also says that we are to judge those who are in the church and remove the evil man from our midts .So many times i see people take jesus out of bibilical context,he said to judge righteous judgment ...

O

Amen brothagary. Like the article I posted said, while we are never to take any pleasure in the death of the wicked, there is a need for warning of seriously false teaching. The kind of message this man preached was on the same level of serious error as Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses, a completely different gospel and different Jesus. Regarding those who are offended by my post, I wonder if they would have also defended Joseph Smith and Charles T Russell if they would have passed away in our time. Seems like many who pull the "judge not" card have much tolerance for such types of false gospels.

S

",he also says that we are to judge those who are in the church and remove the evil man from our midts "
Jesus had a method to correction. You speak to them privately, then with one other, then publicly. I doubt any of us have spoken privately to the man. Let alone brought another to help 'correct' him. (Source: Matt. 18:15-17)

Jesus' was very relational in His correction. He was harsh with His disciples and followers but He had relationship with them.

Also, Paul was extremely relational. He wrote letters to places that he ministered at and stayed at for months and years. Paul didn't just fly by shouting warnings/corrections.

In addition, the words of Jesus are clear in Matthew 13:24-30, His parable of the wheat/tares. The Kingdom of God...is like...a messy situation. It's good and evil growing side by side. Our Savior is clear "Let both grow together".

Finally, Paul is clear when it comes to different people preaching the gospel. "What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice, "

We are to rejoice, as Paul, that the gospel was preached through this man. Not jump to a public criticism of him, without first speaking to him privately, and also attempting a second time with another to help correct him.

Praise God that Mr. Monroe was used by God! Awesome. :)

B

Now this is where you have judged wrongly the heart of oraco and maybe me as well ,you see a heart to expose error and false teaching it not the same a criticizing and jugging a person wrongly ,,Paul said about a similar situation ,rather expose them ,,the apostles did fine jobs of exposing fasle teachers and exhorted Timothy to do similar things .The holy spirit will led some brothers on occasions to exposes false teaching of Christians and false Christians . Dont mince the two ,one is plain sin ,the other is exhortation . Because if you are wrong about this you becomes the judger and fall into a sin .

Z

brothagary, if that is the case may i suggest you start another thread about those issues. Whether you agree or not with the man this thread is not the place for it. As it stands its revealing a great deal of disrespect for the families affected by this accident.

B

hi zeko i wasnt saying anything my self about what he taught , just the contradiction

O
Oracio

There is no need for us to apply Matthew 18 concerning false gospels such as the word of faith prosperity message. During the passing of someone who promoted false teaching it is very possible that some believers may become exposed to the teaching for the first time and caught in the snare. Or it may also be possible that those who were already caught up in it may be open to hearing the truth concerning it during this time. Hence the need for exposing the teaching during such a time as this.

Yes, we can pray for the family of this person to be comforted and strengthened during this tough time, and to be led into all truth by the Holy Spirit. But again that does not negate the need for exposing the teaching.

Someone suggested we start a new thread on the teaching of this man. But what difference would that make? Those who are offended in this thread would also be offended in that thread and try to defend the person regardless.

Again I ask, why do many who call themselves Christians have such a tolerance for such false teaching? I believe this scripture is applicable here:

"The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness."-2Thessalonians 2:9-12

I'm with Oracio here. Many folks will be led to check out this man's website etc because of this news and it is important to expose error-- particularly gross error.

I did not listen to the sermon that is controversial but have read the excerpts. Even if he was for some reason using extreme hyperbole to make a point ( which I doubt) he simply cannot say certain things, like Jesus is not the good news, when Jesus himself said that he was.

And to suggest that Paul preached a different gospel from Jesus is a tad odd whe Paul claimed he received his message directly from Christ himself.

It may seem distasteful to point out such error on the wings of tragic news but I think it is necessary if done in an appropriate manner.

I share this with a somewhat hesistant spirit because I don't want to enter into any personal fray etc. about the departed minister. I haven't kept up with Dr. Munroe for a number of years after having heard him speak a couple of times in past years gone by. I wasn't a follower of him then but was just presnt on a couple of occasions when he shared. I'm not endorsing everything he may have taught and I understand well the stir surrounding his controversial remarks about the blood of Christ and the rest that are so often shared to supposedly prove he was a man amiss. They are controversial remarks indeed. What I've noticed though is so many on the broad internet are saying things without any specific references to show their point. They're just saying he was this or that. I've heard every minister has said things in the heat of the moment they wish they could withdraw. I don't know if that is the case but I googled a bit to find out how he felt about the blood of Christ and it didn't take long to find quotes by him. The video so often referenced gives the impression he hardly cared a whit about the blood of Christ but I soon saw other quotes by him that show a different side. Along with the criticisms of him, why aren't these type of things being shared to give a larger picture of his beliefs? That's all. I'm not trying to be his 100% defender or to cause and stir controversy. I of all men don't pretend to know everything. I just find some of his quotes perhaps at odds with some of the pictures being painted.

Blessings to everyone.

From Myles Munroe article "Overcoming the Kingdoms of This World”

"The key to dominion: The key to man's being able to manifest the Kingdom of God here on Earth is the presence of the Holy Spirit. Man cannot know God's will except through the Holy Spirit living within him, and the Holy Spirit can live only in a holy vessel. Not only did Jesus come to reintroduce the Kingdom, but He came also to restore righteousness and holiness to mankind, both of which we lost in the Garden of Eden."

"Jesus restored us to righteousness - to right standing with the Father - through His death for our sins. He made us righteous again, and when He did so, He also restored our holiness. To be holy means to be pure, without spot or blemish, set apart exclusively for God. When Adam and Eve sinned, they showed contempt for their holy state and took that which was meant for God and used it for profane and common purposes. That would be like taking a beautiful, solid gold goblet and using it to hold bacon grease."

"How does Jesus make us righteous and holy again? Nothing less than the blood of Jesus was required. The Word of God says, "In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness" (Hebrews 9:22). Only the blood of Jesus could cleanse our sin and remove the shame of our actions. That is why He had to die."

"Just like the old hymn declares, "What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood." Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was Spirit, with no body or blood; Jesus, the man, had both. Jesus Christ was both 100 percent flesh-and-blood man and 100 percent divine Son of God. We cannot separate the two; to do so would be to deny the work that He did on the cross."

"The Holy Spirit connection: We cannot worship Christ and forget about Jesus because without Jesus we cannot have Christ. The blood of Jesus cleansed our sin and created the basis for our forgiveness, making it possible for Christ to restore us to righteousness and holiness and bring us the Holy Spirit."

"This is why any religion that denies Jesus has a problem. Everything is wrapped up in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross. If we do not have Jesus, that means our sins are still with us. Without the cleansing of our sins, we cannot become holy. Unless we become holy, we cannot become citizens of the Kingdom of God."

"Why is the Holy Spirit so important? He is the link, the spiritual connection between us and the Kingdom of God. He is the one who fills us with spiritual powers, guides us, leads us into the knowledge of truth, and brings to our remembrance all the things that Jesus taught."

"Jesus promised His disciples that after He left he would send the Holy Spirit to be with them forever. The Holy Spirit could not come until Jesus had completed His work on the cross, risen from the dead, and applied His blood for the cleansing of man's sin. Once we were made cleansed and holy again, we were ready to receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus took care of that, too, before he ascended into heaven."

Full text of above article at: http://www.thevoicemagazine.com/MylesMunroe_KingdomofGod.htm

From Myles Munroe book "Rediscovering the Kingdom; Ancient Hope For Our 21st Century World” - 2010

"Of all the faith systems in the world, the Kingdom alone is effective because it has the blood of Christ, which takes away the sin of man. It alone has the Spirit of God dwelling in believers. It alone can restore us to righteousness and holiness.”

"The blood of Jesus is critical. No matter how often we go to church, no matter how active we are, no matter how many times we receive communion, no matter how much money we give in the offering and no matter how much time we spend helping the poor and the sick, unless we have confessed Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord and allowed His blood to cover and cleanse us, we are still lost and aliens from the kingdom. Good works won't cut it. Sound theology won't cut it. Correct doctrines won't cut it. Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from sin, and make us righteous and holy again. Good works, sound theology, and correct doctrines are byproducts of a growing life in the Spirit. Bu apart form the blood of Jesus they have no power.”

"Jesus came to reintroduce the Kingdom of God to mankind and restore us to righteousness and holiness. He accomplished this by dying on the cross, where His shed blood had the power to cover and wash away our sin. Because of our sin, we were spiritually dead, slaves to our sin and hostage to satan and his kingdom of darkness. By his death on the cross, Jesus paid the price to free us from satan's grip. He became ouitr substitute so that we could go free. Jesus became sin for us so that we could become ready to receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus took care of that too before He ascended into heaven.”

In case anyone missed the youtube that was shared on the news article I posted the link to, here's the link to that vid directly:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DllQ5-ZimU

I know exactly what Mr. Munroe is teaching in that video because I was delivered from the WOF(word of faith) teaching several years ago by God's grace. There's a very good reason for his statements about Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection not being at the heart of the gospel. It's because He, like other WOFers, taught that Jesus is a mere means to prosperity and/or greatness. He says clearly in that vid that people don't need to first hear about their sins and Jesus sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection because people are more concerned with other things such as getting their bills paid and therefore we need to first give them hope that they can find that kind of help in the gospel. He says that's what the kingdom is all about as far as the kingdom on this earth is concerned. He says that's the gospel/kingdom message that Jesus preached. It is a lie from Satan! It's a completely different gospel!

What you will find with many of these WOFers is that they will preach some truth mixed with serious error. Because they do preach some truth they are able to deceive naïve believers much of the time, until God opens their eyes to see the deception. We are warned in God's Word about entertaining false gospels. Paul says let those who preach false gospels be accursed or eternally condemned. We must flee as far as we can from such harmful teaching.

Jesus is the gospel(good news)! He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, our all in all. It's all about Him and what He did for us on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. That is the gospel we are commanded to hold fast to and to declare to a lost world-1Cor.15:1-3. Again, the gospel is not about earthly health, wealth and prosperity. May God continue to deliver His people from such serious error.

Brother, respectfully, his voice will still indeed speak to the Church, as myriads of hours of his teaching is readily available for free on YouTube for example. Yes, he was very influential among Christians(for some time including myself), but sadly it was and is a harmful influence. Again, the same can be said about Joseph Smith and Charles T Russel. I know this person seemed to believe in the Trinity and other essentials unlike other cults, but nevertheless it was a false and harmful gospel that he taught.

Again, think about it brothers and sisters, what if the news headline would have read instead, "Joseph Smith passes away." Would we not see it as an opportunity to discuss Mormonism and the teaching of Joseph Smith? Yet we have much sympathy for WOF. This is sad to see here.

Z

Oracio, you not getting it, this not about having 'sympathy for WOF' this is about having sympathy for a person.

Okay ZekeO, please answer this for me. Would you feel the same if it was Joseph Smith? If so, why?

O

ZekeO, never mind the "why" part of my last post. Whether or not you would feel the same would speak volumes to me. If you would still feel the same, I would be more willing to reconsider my reasoning here because it would indicate to me that you're not being biased. But if you would not feel the same it would indicate you are being biased toward Munroe. Just to let you know, it was a sincere question, not some evil intention to trap you or anything like that. But you are free to believe that or not friend. Take care.

Brother, I am going to agree with you for a change that Myles Munroe is preaching "another gospel", and it is not the gospel of the Kingdom that our Lord and the Apostles preached.

Brother, while you are correct that most of the WOF movement got into serious error on "properity teaching", most of them were teaching the true message on the "doctrine of Christ", the blood, the death and ressurection of Jesus.

Some of these teachers that were truly born again and filled with the Spirit came out of a lot of the false teaching. Kenneth Hagin rebuked much of the "false prosperity" teaching before he died.

There are men like Derek Prince that would have to be considered to be a "Word of faith" teacher that taught the full gospel. There were others that did also.

You have to be careful brother about putting every teacher that taught faith or even the blessing of the Lord in a believer's life as being in the same category as those that taught a false "prosperity message".

"Prove all things, and hold fast to that which is good."

John ,

Below is an excerpt from an article entitled Kenneth Hagin's "Forgotten Warning" which was written by Lee Grady in Charisma
magazine.

CBN.com ”“ Charismatic Bible teacher Kenneth Hagin Sr. is considered the father of the so-called prosperity gospel. The folksy, self-trained "Dad Hagin” started a grass-roots movement in Oklahoma that produced a Bible college and a crop of famous preachers including Kenneth Copeland, Jerry Savelle, Charles Capps, Jesse DuPlantis, Creflo Dollar and dozens of others””all of whom teach that Christians who give generously should expect financial rewards on this side of heaven.

Hagin taught that God was not glorified by poverty and that preachers do not have to be poor. But before he died in 2003 and left his Rhema Bible Training Center in the hands of his son, Kenneth Hagin Jr., he summoned many of his colleagues to Tulsa to rebuke them for distorting his message. He was not happy that some of his followers were manipulating the Bible to support what he viewed as greed and selfish indulgence.

The fact that Kenneth Hagin Sr seemed to have rebuked some of his disciples on the issue of financial prosperity does not do away with the fact that he also taught serous error in other areas. These are some disturbing quotes that show clearly those serious errors:

"[Man] was created on terms of equality with God, and he could stand in God's presence without any consciousness of inferiority...God made us as much like Himself as possible...He made us the same class of being that He is Himself...Man lived in the realm of God. He lived on terms equal with God...[The] believer is called Christ...That's who we are; we're Christ" (Kenneth Hagin, Zoe: The God-Kind of Life, 1989. pp. 35-36, 41)

"Every man who has been born again is an incarnation and Christianity is a miracle. The believer is as much an incarnation as was Jesus of Nazareth" (Kenneth Hagin, "The Incarnation," The Word of Faith 13, December, 1980).

"Why did Jesus then on the cross say, "My God”? Because God was not His Father anymore. He took upon Himself the nature of Satan.” Quote can be listened to hear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMdDQ0QRmH0

"Why did He need to be begotten or born? Because He became like we were - separated from God. Because He tasted spiritual death for every man. And His spirit and inner man went to hell in my place. Can't you see that? Physical death wouldn't remove your sins. He's tasted death for every man. He's talking about tasting spiritual death. Jesus is the first person that was ever born again. Why did His spirit need to be born again? Because it was estranged from God." (Kenneth Hagin, "How Jesus obtained His Name" (Kenneth Hagin Ministries, audio tape #44-H01)

What needs to be discerned regarding this man's overall teaching is that it all stemmed from a corrupted, false gospel message which places earthly prosperity as a priority.

The sermon that has been the main focus was picked because it was considered as showing the most blatant deviation from the biblical gospel and biblical Jesus. But there are many other sermons of this person where you can find serious error also, though maybe a bit more subtle.

If you put 1 percent lethal poison in a glass of water it will still kill you. The whole glass gets poisoned. I believe this person taught more error than a mere 1 percent.

And you'll notice that whenever he feels that anyone may object to what he is teaching on prosperity, he calls them "religious". That's what many WOF teachers resort to when being confronted with their false teaching. They call their objectors "religious", and say that that's why we don't get what they are trying to teach us. You'll find this to be very common among faith teachers.

A
AbideinHim

Oracio,

You are taking bits and pieces from
heresy hunter websites and then making a
judgement on a man's ministry.

I am no longer under the WOF teaching,
but I learned so much from Kenneth
Hagin. He did not fall into the carnal
prosperity trap that so many of the other
faith teachers did. He was a man of integrity
that was truly led by the Spirit of God.

Octacio, you have also been critical of
Michael Brown. Did you listen
to what Michael Brown had to say
about the WOF teachers? He used true
discernment, holding fast to that which is
good, and coming against the error.

We have enough problems in the Body
of Christ today with the accuser of the
brethren, and he can only be effective to
the degree that he can find Christians to agree
with him.

O

Mike, I did listen to the radio broadcast you shared in the other thread. Dr. Brown made good points and did expose false teaching, which I was encouraged to hear. But he is also biased in some ways and lenient toward wof teachers like Benny Hinn. Did you listen to the Hank Hanegraaf teaching I shared on that thread? In that documentary Hank has multiple audio quotes of Hagin teaching serious heresy like I quoted here. You can hear it from his own mouth. He taught the wof notion that we are equal with God, and that Jesus took upon Himself the nature of Satan and had to be born again. Why would you want to defend such serious error brother?

I thought I'd try to share in some detail about my motives in seeking to expose this false teaching here. I already mentioned it briefly but feel more detail may be helpful for some to see where I'm coming from.

I am fully aware that there are hundreds of visitors to the SI forum each day and that many come across SI forum threads through online searches. Out of all those visitors I understand that there's a chance that one or two or more people who visit may need to hear the truth concerning this false teaching. It may be a true believer who has been caught in this snare as I was for some years. Or it may be an unsaved person who has been deceived under this teaching for some time.

From personal experience, I can testify of how liberating it was when I was set free from this teaching. I was grateful that Christian leaders like Hank Hanegraaf and John MacArthur had taken a public stance against this teaching and sought to expose it for what it was. At first I fought against the truth because I was so deceived by the lies. But little by little the scales fell off and eventually I was set free by God's grace. I am eternally grateful to God, and to the instruments He used to open my eyes.

Let's face it, while there are many discernment ministries online today exposing these false teachings, that is not the case when it comes to mainstream Christian TV. The WOF false teaching is more popular in mainstream Christian TV. The WoF teaching is what many saved and unsaved people are exposed to and ensnared by through mainstream Christian TV. So I'm thankful for the few discernment ministries available in mainstream Christian radio and TV.

When someone is under this false teaching it is very enslaving. They fear that if they deny this teaching God's curse will come upon them; that if they dare to "touch God's anointed" they will come against God Himself. When they are sick they fear admitting their illness lest it make matters worse and lest they offend God by not confessing words of faith as God supposedly commands; they fear that if they don't believe in God's supposed promise of financial prosperity they will miss out and be broke and offend God with their unbelief.

So because of that kind of fear many are sucked in, thinking this teaching is from God and that it's taught in the Bible because the faith teachers do a good job of twisting God's Word.

Then there are many who "come to Christ" for all the "benefits" they hear preached by faith teachers. They come with the wrong motives, to get health, wealth and prosperity, not to repent of their sins and trust Christ as their Lord and Savior. So they don't truly get saved. I can testify from past involvement in this movement that this is the case with multitudes who sit in these types of churches week after week. It is a sad reality.

So for the sake of some, maybe one or two or more, I believe it's good to expose these things from time to time as there is opportunity.
