"I am afraid that I see only a few who speak the Truth, but of those few most speak the Truth with hate, anger, bitterness, arrogance and vindictiveness. It does not matter how much Truth you speak; if you do so with the wrong attitude you are wasting your time. The Lord will not honor you and He will not bless your words." Anton Bosch

Neither be partaker of other men's sins - It is a sin for any improper person to thrust himself into the sacred office; and he partakes of that sin who introduces, helps him forward, or sanctions him in it. O, what an account will rash, undiscerning, and prejudiced bishops, presbyters, and others, have to render to God for their ordinations! Their laying rash or careless hands "on skulls that cannot teach, and will not learn;" while probably they refuse inducting others well qualified for the Christian ministry. - Adam Clarke

Those earthly disciples could never have stood up under the persecution of the Jews and Romans had they not waited for Pentecost. "We do not teach and practice community of goods but we teach and testify the Word of the Lord, that all true believers in Christ are of one body (I Cor. 12:13), partakers of one bread (I Cor. 10:17), have one God and one Lord (Eph. 4). Seeing then that they are one, . . . it is Christian and reasonable that they also have divine love among them and that one member cares for another, for both the Scriptures and nature teach this. They show mercy and love, as much as is in them. They do not suffer a beggar among them. They have pity on the wants of the saints. They receive the wretched. They take strangers into their houses. They comfort the sad. They lend to the needy. They clothe the naked. They share their bread with the hungry. They do not turn their face from the poor nor do they regard their decrepit limbs and flesh (Isa. 58). This is the kind of brotherhood we teach.” - Menno Simons

But let not this dismay us; for in all this, the seed of the woman is more than conqueror, and bruises the serpent's head. Thus the Israelites, the more they were oppressed, the more they increased. Thus it was with the Apostles; thus it was with their immediate followers. So that Tertullian compares the church in his time to a mowed field; the more frequently it is cut, the more it grows. The blood of the martyrs was always the seed of the church. And I have often sat down with wonder and delight, and admired how God has made the very schemes which his enemies contrived, in order to hinder, become the most effectual means to propagate his gospel. The devil has had so little success in persecution, that if I did not know that he and his children, according to this verse, could not but persecute, I should think he would count it his strength to sit still.

If Satan should be yet suffered to bruise my heel further, and his servants should thrust me into prison, I doubt not, but even that would only tend to the more effectual bruising of his head. I remember a saying the then Lord Chancellor to the pious Bradford: "Thou hast done more hurt, said he, by thy exhortations in private in prison, than thou didst in preaching before thou was put in."

Are there any enemies of God here? The promise of the text encourages me to bid you defiance: the seed of the woman, the ever-blessed Jesus, shall bruise the serpent's head. What signifies all your malice? You are only raging waves of the sea, foaming out your own shame. For you, without repentance, is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. The Lord Jesus sits in heaven, ruling over all, and causing all things to work for his children's good: he laughs you to scorn: he hath you in the utmost derision, and therefore so will I. Who are you that persecute the children of the ever blessed God? Though a poor stripling, the Lord Jesus, the seed of the woman, will enable me to bruise your heads.

...We are all apt to divorce comfort from duty and to content ourselves with a 'barren and unfruitful knowledge' of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:8) as if all that he required of the world were only a few naked and cold and inactive apprehensions of his merit and all things were so done for us that nothing remained to be done by us. This is the wretched conceit of many in the present age, and therefore, either they abuse the sweetness of grace to looseness or the power of it to laziness. Christ's merit and the Spirit's efficacy are the commonplaces from whence they draw all the defenses and excuses of their own wantonness and idleness.

It is true God hath opened an excellent treasure in the church to defray the expenses of humble sinners, and to bear the expenses of the saints to heaven; but there is nothing allowed to wanton prodigals who spend freely and sin lavishly upon the mere account of the riches of grace...

The evangelist Charles Finney speaking at a pastor's conference in 1873:

"Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation."

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (Matt 24:12-13)

John Calvin, referring to Matthew 24:12-13: "Although, then, the charity of many, overwhelmed by the mass of iniquities, should give way, Christ warns believers that they must surmount this obstacle, lest, overcome by bad examples, they apostatize. And therefore he repeats the statement, that no man can be saved, unless he strive lawfully, (2 Timothy 2:5,) so as to persevere to the end" (Calvin, Commentaries. Vol 3, pg 82).

S

Strictly speaking, the Scripture is the witness to the Word of God, and like a good witness, it does not speak of itself but points away from itself (John 5:39).

Church history has amply demonstrated that we have not generally made the same distinction. The written record has been absolutized. The prophetic spirit was quenched. The Christian Scripture became a rigid Christian Torah, a rule book for everything Christians must believe and teach. The gospel became a new law. Faith was confounded with orthodoxy, which was really theological legalism. The church ceased to be a charismatic community and became an institution. Instead of the Spirit there were rules. Instead of the priesthood of all believers there was wretched clericalism. Instead of the Spirit and presence of the living Christ there was religious canned goods. Instead of the living gospel thee was dead ideology. Instead of freedom there was bondage. Yet, like the Pharisees, we have desperately tried to substitute an incredible devotion to the letter of Holy Scripture for the prophetic spirit. Instead of having the certainty which the Spirit inspires, we have looked for certainty in endless apologetics and theories of textual inerrancy.

It is clear that there must be difficulties for us in a revelation such as the Bible. If someone were to hand me a book that was as simple to me as the multiplication table, and say, 'This is the Word of God. In it He has revealed His whole will and wisdom,' I would shake my head and say, 'I cannot believe it; that is too easy to be a perfect revelation of infinite wisdom.' Life relates to a person. Religion relates to things. That's one great difference. Religion is taken up with things. As, for instance, rules, doctrines, theology, duty, institutions, rituals and other such things. Now I do not say that any of those things are necessarily evil but in those things there is no life. You can have all the rules, all the doctrine, all the theology, be a member of the church, keep all the institutions and ordinaces and rituals of the church without having life. Life is not in things. ~ Derek Prince

The most important verse in Scripture is "And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory of the only Son from the Father . . .”

"The Word became flesh”””is the Great Divide. In all other religions it is Word became word””a philosophy, a moralism, a system, a technique, but for all time and all men everywhere, "the Word became flesh”””the Idea became Fact.

Then I got hold of this difference (between all world religions and Christianity) in all other religions it is the Word become word, but only in Jesus Christ, did the Word become flesh. Then (and only then) Everything fell into its place. I had the Key, and this Key fitted everything in East and West . . . Religions are man’s search for God. The gospel is God’s search for man.

Therefore, there are many religions, but only one gospel.

I had heard rumors that he was teaching "strange delusions,” that all he talked about was demons and that "Spirit-filled believers could be possessed by them.” Others told me he misused the Word of God by spiritualizing everything.

"Recently I took the time to listen to his message. After the first message, I knew I was hearing a true word of repentance, holiness, and heart purity. After three messages, I was on my face before God, having been shattered by the hammer of God’s Word. No other message of repentance had so touched me. I am convinced God has called Milton Green to be one of those chosen vessels to bring the church back to repentance and purity. God has given him a strong message searing, searching, yet healing and uplifting.”

I have many dear beloved friends who hold to what I believe is just basic replacement theology. If I made that assertion to them, they would recoil and say, "Dalton, this is not replacement theology, this is covenant or fulfillment or inclusion theology."

If your theology of Israel divests them of their National, ethnic, territorial or identity or destiny, you have embraced replacement theology. You may not use the term, you may not use the language, you may not even believe you believe it...

The end result of fulfillment theology is the same result as replacement theology, namely that there are no promises that remain for the Jewish people on a National level.

It's almost as though the Gentile church was a little envious, it lacked the privileges, it took it over and it's wanted to hang on to it. So in other words, there's been rank identity theft.

Anne Askew:

Regarding Transubstantiation

When asked (during her torture) if she had ever said that a priest could not make the body of Christ, Anne reportedly said, "I have read that God made man; but that man can make God, I have never read, nor I suppose ever shall."

"Then they did put me on the rack, because I confessed no ladies or gentlemen, to be of my opinion...the Lord Chancellor and Master Rich took pains to rack me with their own hands, till I was nearly dead. I fainted...and then they recovered me again. After that I sat two long hours arguing with the Lord Chancellor, upon the bare floor...With many flattering words, he tried to persuade me to leave my opinion... I said that I would rather die than break my faith."

So on this day, poor Anne Askew (25 years old) was found guilty of heresy once and for all and sentenced to die by burning in roughly a month. Her story is a very sad one, as she is remembered and known for being a brave and passionate woman - the only woman to be tortured in the Tower of London for her beliefs. You are still in the world. You are still in the battlefield. You daily fight for your lives. So you must be careful, that . . . what you have begun to be with such a blessed commencement will be consummated in you. It is a small thing to have first received something. It is a greater thing to be able to keep what you have attained. Faith itself and the saving birth do not make you alive by merely being received. Rather, they must be preserved. It is not the actual attainment, but the perfecting, that keeps a man for God. The Lord taught this in His instruction when He said, "Look! you have been made whole. Sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you." Solomon, Sual, and many others were able to keep the grace given to them so long as they walked in the Lord's ways. However, when the discipline of the Lord was forsaken by them, grace also forsook them.

Every one of us would confess that we believe in prayer, yet how many of us truly believe in the power of prayer....

For everything depends upon prayer.

Why are many Christians so often defeated? Because they pray so little. Why are may church workers so often discouraged and disheartened? Because they pray so little.

Why do most Christian leaders see so few brought out of 'darkness' to light by their ministry? Because they pray so little. Why are our churches simply not on fire for God? Because there is so little prayer....

We may be assured of this: The secret of all failure is our failure in secret prayer.

"It is the great design of the Gospel to bring thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ Jesus. It is far easier to reform men's manners than to renew their minds." - Ralph Venning (Excerpt taken from his book, "The Sinfulness of Sin; 1st published in 1669.)

"6) Conversion begins, is carried on and is completed in the hearts and thoughts of men.

It begins there, for while men are dead in sins they do not consider or regard what is in their heart and thoughts. But when the grace of God comes in power, and they receive it in truth, they begin to think and consider, 'What shall we do to be saved?' Men are in a great quandry in their thoughts, they begin to be disturbed, and their bowels are turned with in them. For this reason, regeneration is called the renewing of the mind, and repentance is a change of mind; the heart becomes a new heart, and when the heart is gained, all the rest follows. If the wicked forsake his thoughts, he will quickly forsake his ways (See Isaiah 55:7). The first turn is in the thoughts. 'I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto Thy testimonies' (Psalm 119:59); the thoughts go before and the feet follow after. The first movemnet of the Prodigal were in his thoughts; when he came to himself and said within himself, 'I will arise and go my father'. While he was this thinking - it is said, while he was afar off, just taking the first step - his father saw him and had compassion on him.

Not only is conversion begun in, but it is carried on in the heart and thoughts especially, though not exclusively. When others like the Pharisees, study only to make the outside look fair and beautiful, the godly man is employed about his inside, to keep his heart clean. The prayers of godly men are chiefly taken up about their hearts: 'Create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me' (Psalm 51:10). And as one excellent writer puts it, In what lies the difference between sincere-hearted christians and others, but in the keeping of the thoughts, without which all religion is but bodily excercise? Papists may mumble over their prayers, hypocrites may talk, but this is godliness. As coversion begins and is carried on in the thoughts, so it is completed, finished and perfected in them; it ends there." - Ralph Venning (Excerpt from "The Sinfulness of Sin; page 229; Reprint edt 2008; Banner of Truth Trust )

Flesh and blood alone never bore them. IN the beginning the Church was a fellowship of men and women who centered their lives on the living Christ. They had a personal and vital relationship to the Lord. It transformed them and the world around them. Then the Church moved to Greece, and it be came a philosophy. Later it moved to Rome, and it became an institution. Next it moved to Europe and it became a culture. Finally it moved to America, and it became an enterprise. We've got far too many churches and so few fellowships.

But if he had the charge of the hospital, or lived in a city where the pestilence was raging, if he would be studying fermentation, the circulation of the blood, blisters and the like, and such like excellent points, when he should be visiting his patients, and saving men's lives; if he should even turn them away, and let them perish, and tell them he has no time to give them advice, because he must follow his own studies, I would consider that man as a most preposterous student, who preferred the remote means before the end itself of his studies: indeed, I would think him but a civil kind of murderer." - Richard Baxter (Excerpt from his book, 'The Reformed Pastor'; reprint edt 2007; Banner Of Truth Trust; page 213)

"The reason we stop seeking is because we don’t understand the process. You seek a while and God empties you. You wanted to get filled with good feelings, and you don’t get them. The fight starts. Prayer is a fight, and unless your heart is perfect toward God, and you view the objective, and you see the promise afar off, and you’re persuaded of it, and you’re going to set your faith unto the Lord your God to have the promise, you’re most likely going to quit. That’s why He tells us to "work out our salvation with fear and trembling.”...Would you like to be "rooted and grounded in love”? Well, then, you can’t be a snob anymore. You can’t judge people anymore like you have been doing. You can’t show the cold shoulder to anybody. You cannot exercise your own opinions anymore. Oh, these views, these opinions! They threw heart and soul and feeling into their sermons, and sent their hearers home convinced, at any rate, that the preacher was sincere and wished them well. They believed that you must speak from the heart if you wish to speak to the heart, and there must be unmistakeable faith and conviction within the pulpit if there is to be faith and conviction among the pews."

"Some of you have read the words of that aged saint who, on his ninetieth birthday, told of all God’s goodness to him””I mean George Muller. What did he say he believed to be the secret of his happiness, and of all the blessing which God had given him? He said he believed there were two reasons. The one was that he had been enabled by grace to maintain a good conscience before God day by day; the other was, that he was a lover of God’s Word. Ah, yes, a good conscience is complete obedience to God day by day, and fellowship with God every day in His Word, and prayer””that is a life of absolute surrender."

"I came to understand later that God has a mark reserved for His people, which will immunize them against the onslaughts of Satan, as he seeks to corrupt their minds "from the simplicity that is in Christ". It is the mark of His Spirit imprinted in our minds -- God’s seal, that no beast or dragon can erase. This mark is called "the seal of the living God", which God imprints upon the foreheads of His people. This seal is God’s sign to all spiritual powers, good or evil -- that these are chosen in Christ; and a sign of assurance to those who are sealed, that they need not fear the winds of God’s wrath, when they begin to blow upon the earth. Outside of Christ, I am only a sinner, but in Christ, I am saved. Outside of Christ, I am empty; in Christ, I am full. Outside of Christ, I am weak; in Christ, I am strong. "Now the main thing is to get the eyes of the people open. They need to see hell as the result of their sin, and that produces fear, the fear of God which is the beginning of wisdom. Once get this fear and all will be comparatively easy; but if this fear does not lay hold of a man, his so-called conversion is a sham. True love wakens a man to reality; sham love soaps him down to hell, greases his trail, in fact, to hell. Very many are half asleep or deluded, and make up fancy doctrines of their own, which practically mean that an unholy man can get to heaven without being holy. But remember, Christ did not die to whitewash us, He died to re-create us, and none but His re-creations enter heaven." - C.T. Studd

"God cannot, as people sometimes think, send sickness or trouble, or accidents...much less death...for these things are unlike His nature."

"alamb",

It appears to me upon a bit of internet research that Emmet Fox was not a Christian and that the "New Thought" and "Divine Science" movements are also erroneous/heretical movements.

I was lead to check this out on the basis that the above quote is patently unbiblical and one cannot hold to the inspiration of scripture and biblical inerrancy and believe the quote above. While the premise is sound (God is purely Good and Holy) - I could cite many times when the bible (in both the old and new testament) flat out contradicts the conclusion of the above quote.

I believe the problem arises when our point of reference is amiss. God is good, man - in and of himself, is not. Therefore it is in agreement with God's Holy Nature to punish and judge evil. If man were good and had never done wrong and 'evils' still befell him - this would be harder to reconcile with God's nature.

Now, in a fallen and sin-sick world, suffering and 'evil' does befall the righteous; including Jesus Christ Himself. This is in agreement with self-sacrificial love, which is also God's nature (to His eternal praise and our eternal joy).

But there are many, many instances in the Bible of sickness, suffering and death coming directly from God's hand and also by His word through ministers of His.

A few instances:
* Capitol punishment under the Law of Moses.
* The flood of Noah's day.
* Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities of the pain.
* The "Fiery Serpents" in the wilderness.
* The destruction of Jericho and other sinful cities, apparently including the killing of women and children.
* The death of Pharaoh's army in the Red Sea.
* The death of the firstborn in Egypt.
* The Death of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5.
* The 'hand of the Lord' striking a man with blindness through Paul in Acts 13.

I truly hope you will consider my words and test this man and his doctrine by the Lord Jesus and His teaching and practice, as well as that of His apostles.

Grace to you in Jesus' Life Giving Name.
