On this day in 1966 John Lennon apologized for a statement he had previously made about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus Christ. Christians went nuts when he said that and set kids to burning Beatles records etc.
The funny thing is that he should never have had to apologize because he was telling the truth. He said exactly what a prophetic voice like Ravenhill or Tozer would say.
I suspect the Christian reaction to Lennon's statement was deeply grounded in the fact that he touched a nerve. If you want to really offend Christians all you have to do is tell them the truth about the condition of their own hearts.
