Anne Graham Lotz Issues an Urgent Warning About the Upcoming Solar Eclipse

S
sermonindex

The sun will be turned to darkness ... before the great and awe-inspiring day of the Lord comes" (Joel 2:31).

A few years ago, I was teaching through the book of Joel when the ancient words of his prophecy came up off the page. I knew with hair-raising certainty that God's severe judgment was coming on America! I have taught Joel several times since. Each time has served to confirm with deep conviction that God is warning America of impending disaster and destruction.

In light of Ezekiel 33:1-6 that commands a watchman to be faithful to warn others of the danger coming against the land, I feel compelled to issue the warning once again. The warning is triggered by the total solar eclipse of Aug. 21, 2017, nicknamed "America's Eclipse." For the first time in almost 100 years, a total solar eclipse will be seen from coast to coast in our nation. People are preparing to mark this significant event with viewing parties at exclusive prime sites. The celebratory nature regarding the eclipse brings to my mind the Babylonian King Belshazzar, who threw a drunken feast the night the Medes and Persians crept under the city gate. While Belshazzar and his friends partied, they were oblivious to the impending danger. Belshazzar wound up dead the next day, and the Babylonian empire was destroyed.

Jewish rabbis have historically viewed solar eclipses as warnings from God to Gentile nations. Therefore, my perspective on the upcoming phenomenon is not celebratory. While no one can know for sure if judgment is coming on America, it does seem that God is signaling us about something. Time will tell what that something is.

Please view the following video posted by Australian pastor Steve Cioccolanti. Pastor Steve articulates the warning in a very clear, undeniable, yet undogmatic way based on his understanding of biblical truth.

Please be assured that balancing God's warning is His plea for us to return to Him and rend our hearts in sincere, heartfelt repentance. I can almost hear the tears in Joel's voice as he pleads for us to repent and return to God, because "Who knows? He might turn aside and relent, and He might leave behind a blessing" (Joel 2:14a).

Regardless of whether or not the conjecture regarding America's eclipse is accurate, we know our nation and our world is in turmoil. Without doubt, this is the time for God's people to get right with God. To repent of our own sin. To share the gospel with our neighbors. And to pray that in the midst of His coming wrath, God would remember mercy (Hab. 3:2).

The only problem is that this eclipse has been in motion for 1000s and 1000s of years. It's not like it's coming out of nowhere.

And they are not rare. They occur somewhere on earth around every 18 months on average.

Yeah but this eclipse is specifically over America. If what I read is correct. I think there's something prophetic there.

Also this is a total eclipse that is over America from Northwest to Southeast.

I just watched another video of his "scientific proof that hell is real." His exegesis is poor to say the least and he is a tad out there.

I always wonder about Bible "teachers" who focus on esoterica. There is enough plain sound Bible teaching that needs to be done without having to resort to this sort of thing.

Do we have to go through this nonsense everytime there is an astrological event? It doesnt matter where or what time it occurs they always attach something to it. The fact that it is going over america makes it no more significiant then if it was going over Uruguay. We really need to get off our high horse, perhaps our nation isnt as "special" as we think?

THE COMING ECLIPSE AND LAST DAYS MADNESS

".....Americans do not need a solar eclipse to know that America is headed for judgment for its many sins against God and His laws if they do not repent. The warning signs are everywhere. The Bible is filled with such warnings. But is this eclipse a specific sign of judgment? Anne Lotz says we’ll have to wait and see. That’s not the way biblical signs work.

Prophecy speculators have been cashing in on apocalyptic scare tactics for centuries. I have 12 book cases filled with literature related to prophecy and prophetic speculation. While we’re looking at the sun, moon, and stars, our culture is being stolen from us. Christians need to stop with the speculation and get to work applying the principles of the Bible to our world rather than prophetic speculation...."

Brethren I would not be so quick to dismiss this event as mere "newspaper theology". There's enough scripture warrant to cause us to take a sobering look at the upcoming solar eclipse.

At the beginning of creation God created the sun as a sign,

ӢӢӢ Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for ""signs"" and for seasons and for days and years; ӢӢӢ Gen. 1:14

Jesus teaches about His soon return,

ӢӢӢThere will be ""signs in sun and moon and stars"", and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves,ӢӢӢ Luke 21:25

When the Pharisees are pressing Jesus for a sign to prove He is the Messiah. Jesus answers them,

ӢӢӢBut He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the ""sign"" of Jonah the prophet; for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. ӢӢӢ Mat. 12:39-40

Definitely Jesus is talking about His death, burial and resurrection to be as His ultimate sign to Israel.

But there is another component to be considered in the sign of Jonah. Ancient history records a significant solar eclipse that took place in Nineveh. That event took place before a reluctant Jonah arrived to preach God's upcoming wrath against this wicked city. Some have suggested that because of the solar eclipse Nineveh was prepared for repent.

This component was certainly linked to the crucifixion of Jesus when we read below,

ӢӢӢ Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour.ӢӢӢ Mat. 27:45

We are not told what caused three hours of darkness at the death of Jesus. But a solar eclipse would certainly not be out of the question.

I have never heard of a solar eclipse being equated to God's blessing. Jewish rabbis often associated a solar eclipse with judgment upon the Gentile Nations. The certainly may have been evident with Nineveh. Perhaps the citizens of that city saw the solar eclipse as a sign of the angry gods at tveir wickedness. Thus when they heard the message from Jonah to repent. They did so in sack cloth and ashes. They turned to the true and living God. Let us not forget that Nineveh was a Gentile nation.

When darkness covers the land this is definitely considered a sign of judgement. We see all this happening at the death of Jesus. Darkness covered the land for three hours as a sign of judgement against those who crucified Jesus. This certainly happened in Egypt.

”¢”¢”¢ Then the Lord said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even a darkness which may be felt. ”So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days. They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings. ”¢”¢”¢ Ex. 10:21-23

Imagine a darkness so thick that it can be felt. Imagine a darkness so thick that one can not see another person. Was this the result of a solar eclipse? I do not know. But darkness is definitely a sign of judgement. It was a sign of judgment to another Gentile nation and that was Egypt.

The path of the total eclipse crosses the United States from the northwest to the southeast. It is as if God has said I have judged the United States of America and found it lacking. The path of totality is like a slash across this country. Basically it's as if God is saying I am finished with America. America will be judged.

We what do well to be very prayerful about the solar eclipse coming up on August 21st. We would do well to be on our knees and honor faces before God asking what is he saying.

Could it be that God is saying to us as he did in Nineveh...REPENT!

Bro Blaine

Ok fair enough Mr. Bear. So what are we supposed to do? I mean is there some sort of precaution we need to take? I just don't understand. Are we supposed to be fearful of this? I'm sincere in my asking these questions, why does any of these signs even matter to Christians? it's almost sounds like were being scared into getting right with the Lord, well I am right with the Lord, and I don't need any scare tactics to do anything in my life. I'm just totally confused why we as Christians, should be concerned about any signs, God's already told us about all of them, and we have known about them ever since the Bible was written, now were supposed to be looking up and scared all a sudden? I guess I'll never understand, maybe someone can help me here.

Brothers and Sisters,

We should not be ignorant in this matter. TMK is right about what he is saying. Eclipses happen OFTEN on Earth. They show up in a location every 375 years on average, but happen every 18 months or so, globally. Mathematically, they CAN occur up to 5 times a year, but this has only happened 25 times in the last 5000 years.

Brother Bear--No eclipse is mentioned in the bible regarding Ninevah. It is not safe to assume that one did, especially since we don't know the exact date that Jonah was in Ninevah. Even if there was, the Bible doesn't mention it, so it is not significant nor can theological presuppositions be derived from it.

Also, during the crucifixion of Jesus, there was Darkness in the land for 3 hours total. An eclipse, at its MAXIMUM length of time can only last for 7.5 minutes. The supernatural darkness that occurred during the crucifixion lasted 24x the maximum amount of time an eclipse can last at any 1 location.

Jewish tradition is FULL of superstitions that are not Biblical--hence, they are not in the Bible.

God is judging our nation. He has done EXACTLY what the scriptures says and has given everyone over to their lusts.

The only cure is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I very much agree with Martyr on this topic--America is not God's special nation. It has been blessed, for the sake of His children within. But it isn't Israel 2.0 nor Israel's cousin.

T
TMK

The eclipse is happening because the moon is moving between the earth and the sun- period. It is not a supernatural occurrence. A supernatural occurrence would be if the sun went dark for 15 minutes for no discernible reason.

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow (or 8/21/17) for tomorrow (8/21/17) will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

... Luke 21:25-26

What exactly was Jesus doing when he gives the signs of his soon return? He speaks of signs in the sun, moon and stars. What was he doing? Was he spouting off some ethereal, ephemeral, theology?

Or was Jesus giving warnings that there would certainly be signs in the sun, moon, and stars that would precede His soon return. I speak of such signs as a solar eclipse.

In the gospel accounts of Matthew 24 and Mark 13 Jesus consistently tells his disciples to be on the alert. Another translation says watch and pray.  How can one watch and pray? How can one be on the alert if they do not pay attention to the signs that are taking place around them?  Indeed how can one be prepared for the return of Jesus if they do not pay attention to the signs?

Jesus cave clear teaching in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 as well as other places such as in the Pauline Epistles of things that would take place before His return.  To ignore these warnings and signs will be to do so at one's eternal peril.

If this solar eclipse coming on August 21st is not a sign in the sun preceding the return of Christ. Then I do not know what is.  But then I imagine that there will be those evangelicals who will deny the ultimate sign of his return. That being like lightning that flashes from the east and is visible even in the west. I will imagine that they will be those in this forum that will say no that is not Jesus coming until it is too late.

Moonstruck - adjective

1)Afflicted with or exhibiting irrationality and mental unsoundness.

2)Mentally deranged, supposedly by the influence of the moon; crazed.

3)Insane and believed to be affected by the phases of the moon, lunatic.

So maybe there is more to this.

I did see a sign this afternoon. It read, "Watch the eclipse this Sunday." It was in front of the church building too. That could be a sign that I should go to that church this Sunday.

I find there's an interesting hypocrisy that takes place in this forum. Those of you who cry the loudest "sola scriptura" are the least inclined to believe the scriptures. That is the scriptures that point to the soon return of Jesus Christ.

You mock the notion of his soon return through the signs that He is giving. Then I ask you where is your "Sola scriptura". If you're going to appeal to the scriptures as your final authority. Then my question to you is why do you not believe the scriptures.

You take me to task on other threads because you claim I do not hold to the Canon of scripture. Yet I take the scripture more literally than those of you who cry Sola scriptura. Because I simply believe what Jesus says in his word that he will return. Evidently you do not believe that he is going to return. Then my question is who truly is holding to Sola scriptura.

Brother, are you ok? Mocking? ....ungodly men? so you can tell someone's heart by a post on a internet forum? Are some Christians just getting bored with God's word, they resort to telling folks, that are not in agreement with them, they're mocking God and are ungodly men? Some of these threads are really getting out of control. The best thing we all can do is, just get back to the Bible, and quit worrying about these signs and wonders, I have no control over them, and I don't know of anyone that does.

When I see threads like these, some Christians, act like everyone better get ready, because I'm ready, well I'm ready to, so I don't need any scare tactics to get me ready, I stay ready, to keep from having to get ready. If your going to Preach these signs and wonders, my guess is you time would be better spent in the streets telling the lost, not your brothers and sisters in Christ, that already know this news, because we have Bibles also.

C
ccchhhrrriiisss

Dear Bro Blaine,

I think that we should be slow to accuse others. I didn't read anyone mocking anyone else or denying the fact that the Lord will return or that there will be signs preceding the Lord's return. I only saw people pointing out the fact that eclipses just aren't truly rare. They occur frequently.

In fact, there were 71 total solar eclipses during the 20th Century. As someone else pointed out, as many as five eclipses have occurred in one calendar year (the last being in 1935).

There will be another total solar eclipse on July 2nd, 2019 followed by an annular solar eclipse (in which the Moon is just a little further out and unable to cover the entire Sun) about six months later (on December 26th, 2019). Six months after that, there will another annular solar eclipse on July 21st, 2020 followed by another total solar eclipse on December 14th, 2020.

In other words, there will be three total solar eclipses, two annular solar eclipses and four partial solar eclipses from now until December 14th, 2020 -- and that is relatively normal.

Yes, it is somewhat rare that a total solar eclipse will be visible across North America (well, at least across a particular trajectory) -- but the last one happened in 1978 and the next one will occur in April 2024.

Is this a "sign?" Well, "the heavens declare the glory of God" (Psalm 19:1). Is it a "sign of the times?" I suppose that is different -- because solar eclipses are so surprisingly common. A total solar eclipses occurs (on average) approximately once ever 18 months.

The Lord will return according to God's own timing regardless of whether there is a total solar eclipse or not.

M
MrBillPro

Jesus said about the ones who needed to see signs and wonders in order to believe on Him. He said, and I will quote, "Only a wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign.” Matthew 16:4 This was spoken to the pharisees who demanded to see a sign. Jesus sharply rebuked them and then told them that the only "sign” that would be given for people to believe is the sign of Jonah…in other words…the only "sign” that would be given for people to believe was the death, burial, and resurrection of the living God! Basically, Jesus was saying to the pharisees, as He still says to us today, that if you don’t believe based on the death, burial, and resurrection, then nothing else will make you truly believe. And that’s the way it still stands today. Yet many still get lured in to seeking after the supernatural signs and wonders and much of their faith is based upon such seeking. Dangerous.

H
havok20x

MrBillPro,

I definitely don't think that Brother Blaine was saying that. He was merely advocating that this eclipse was a sign of the end times. And while that is an opinion on which I don't agree, I know that there will indeed be signs preceding the coming of the Lord.

Let me say what I believe is happening in our world--a hardening of hearts. You have all these people who, for the past few decades, have been interpreting "signs" and events that almost always come to nothing. They write books that say "look at these signs!" And come to the very cusp of saying the end is here, but don't say it because they don't want to be exposed for the false prophets that they are (I am not speaking of you, Brother Blaine). They are saying to us, "Look! Here is the Christ! He is coming!" But we are commanded not to follow after them.. The enemy is using this to harden the hearts of people against those signs which are/will be legitimate. When the end does really come, they will have heard the boy crying wolf so much that they won't pay the truth even a second glance, even if an angel were to fly around the earth proclaiming the everlasting Gospel. They will be so hardened and in love with their sin and antichrist "savior" that they will not pay a literal fulfillment of Revelation any attention.

This is a very interesting thread. Putting aside what man says about the end times, and looking in Matthew 24 at what Jesus says about it has my attention. What really amazes me is that the disciples were expecting Jesus to come back in their life time. If they were expecting Him then, how much more should we be looking for Jesus now?

For me, looking at the signs Jesus told us about isn't about pushing fear and hysteria. Rather, Jesus said when we "begin" to see these things take place, we are to lift our heads because our Redemption draws nigh. I'm Home sick, I long to see my Savior. As far as the book of Revelation goes, I sincerely believe that none of us have a clear understanding of it, and we won't until the Lord gives us His understanding.

I agree that we shouldn't be consumed with signs, but we should be alert and on watch. The signs Jesus gave are becoming more and more evident as we see the Day of Christ approaching.

The love of many are growing cold

There are signs in the sun, moon, and stars

Nation is against Nation

Kingdom is against Kingdom

Mens thoughts are continuously evil as in Noahs day

Violence is increasing

Men are calling evil good, and good evil

Technology is leaping forward like never before

We could go on and on with the birth pains we are seeing....and they "are" increasing.

The sun is actually going quiet, there's very little solar flare activity, and more coronal holes are forming. This is actually quite interesting. When solar flares hit the earth on a regular basis, it strengthens the magnetosphere which shields us from x-rays and incoming objects that would burn up before entering our atmosphere. When the sun lacks in solar flares, the magnetosphere begins to weaken, and it begins to lose it's strength, allowing x-rays and objects to enter our atmosphere more freely.

Nasa is finding that not only is the earth beginning to change due to a quiet sun (weather, storms, increase in volcanoes and earthquakes) but they are seeing changes taking place on the planets in our solar system too. Ive seen articles from M.I.T. , from Harvard, and other reputable sites. When the sun goes quiet, the earth begins to cool. It can cause a famine. If, by any chance, the sun gives off a large solar flare during the quiet phase of the sun, and it is a direct shot, that part of the earth may lose its power completely.

The last time the sun went quiet was in the early 1600's. There was wide spread famine and there were some years that didn't see a summer. It's known as a "Maunder Minimum". We are due for another. Also, during a Maunder Minimum, there's been a history of earthquakes of magnitude 8 or greater, and an increase of volcanic activity. It's actually quite interesting to read up on.

Yes, these things cycle normally, but we are seeing a variety of things happen at the same time, with more frequency and intensity.

I honestly don't know if September 23rd will have "anything" to do with the sign described in Revelation 12, but I have an App on my computer that lets me see the stars position, and again....it's rather interesting to see that the woman clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet, Jupiter coming through her birth canal, happens identical to the way Revelation 12 describes it....the Dragon is also near her at this time, so is the snake. The App is called "Sky Guide"....it's a lot like an interactive planetarium....you can see the constellations move. Its really neat.

Do I fear these things? No, not at all....in fact, Im looking up because our Redemption is drawing near....and Im all the more eager to share the Gospel and work while it's still day, because the night is coming when no one can work. We've been living in the last days for over 2000 years now.....Im a thinking we are getting prettttttty close now....the Lord could wait another 2000 years if He so desires, but reading the Word of God, the way the disciples warned of Jesus coming then, makes me look at it just as seriously as they did. Praise be to Jesus in everything we do! Amen. Jesus will come when no one expects Him to return.

God bless you all. Keep up the good fight. Jesus is coming for those who love His return....perhaps soon. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

In love, and in a deep conviction that we are on the threshhold of Daniel's 70th Week, I ask us all not to read into the eclipse of 8/21 anything prophetic. We simply have no solid biblical support to conclude that north America or the US is the specific subject of any prophecy, nor that an eclipse that happens over it is a portent of anything that is described in the bible.

It is an eclipse. They are remarkable. They DO communicate God's design, reality and sovereignty. They may, on unique occasions, signify God's particular action, but we should carefully insist on specific and clear biblical support for it before letting our Spirit informed minds wander down a path of unfruitful speculation and titillation.

Brother, I do agree with you here. After looking through Matthew 24 and Luke 21, the signs in the sun, moon, and stars that Jesus refers to is "immediately after" the tribulation of those days. I should have clarified that I do not agree that a solar eclipse is a sign. Yes, birth pains are increasing, but when these things happen, it will be sudden destruction. The only way not to be deceived is not to chase after the signs, but to follow Jesus.

What I put in my last post was observation that has always interested me, but not to the point of chasing after them.
**********************************************************************
Matthew 24:29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
************************************************************************
Luke:21:25 "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
************************************************************************

Also, Jesus warns us of many false prophets that will arise, and if possible deceive even the elect.

There's definitely a lot of weird prophecies out there right now.

Brother Bill said: """"""As "Christians" this should be the only sign we should be looking for, "Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True"."""""""""

Amen. We shouldn't be" looking for signs".

Luke 21: 7 So they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?”
8 And He said: "Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them.
********************************************************************
Verse 8 of Luke 21 is very sobering. If I'm understanding it correctly, Jesus is warning that many will come in Jesus name, declaring that He is Lord and they will say the Time of the end has drawn near. Jesus says, do not go after them. We have to be so careful not to follow man.

********************************************************************
Luke 21: 12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake. 13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. 14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; 15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. 17 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. 18 But not a hair of your head shall be lost. 19 By your patience possess your souls.
*************************************************************************

May the Lord increase our spiritual wisdom and understanding, and guard our hearts from deception.

Luke 21: 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

ӢӢӢ 1 Peter 4:17 ӢӢӢ

Historically a solar eclipse has been viewed as a sign of coming judgement. Cuneiform tablets discovered in the 19th century mention the Buy-Sagle Eclipse. Historians believe this eclipse took place over Nineveh, present-day Mosul. This eclipse probably took place shortly before Jonah arrived to preach the message of God's judgement of coming wrath upon the city of Nineveh.

Before the arrival of Jonah Nineveh had already been embroiled in plagues, civil war and an earthquake. This documented from historical sources outside of scripture.

Thus God have been preparing the hearts of those in Nineveh to turn to Him in repentance despite the message of wrath and destruction from Jonah. From the King on down the people repented. And God showed mercy upon Nineveh.

But historical sources does show that there was a significant solar eclipse that took place before the arrival of Jonah. And it is not beyond the realm of scriptural possibility that God does speak through a solar eclipse. To speak forth judgment but also to call people to repentance.

In the verses above in Amos God is saying that he will make the sun go down and the Earth turn to darkness at noon. The language would suggest a solar eclipse. Another thing God is saying in the verses above is that there will be a famine of the word of God. I'm wondering if it will be those who will go to seek an explanation of what God is saying. But no word will be found. Probably because the people did not initially believe the word that God was speaking to them.

A friend of mine is always reminding me that God's controversy with His people is unbelief. It is no different in the church today. Even in this thread there is a spirit of unbelief saying God does not speak through a solar eclipse as he did in the Old Testament. But then has God ever changed. Has he ever changed in a way he has spoken.

There are those who suggest that we should not look at the signs of the return of Jesus. There are those that suggest that people such as me are chasing after signs. I have asked repeatedly then why did Jesus give us signs in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 to point to His coming. These are signs that are given out of the scriptures themselves. Those of you who cry Sola scriptura can you please tell me why did Jesus give us signs to point to his coming?

I do believe that the upcoming solar eclipse across America will signify the coming judgment to be primarily up on the church in America. The church in America is embedded with unbelief. And certainly there is a famine of the word of God in our churches today. Even in this forum there is a famine of the word of God.

The idea of the Judgment of God upon the American church is foreign to many. They are American Christians who cry peace and safety. These will be the ones upon whom destruction will come up on as Paul writes in Thessalonians.

We would seriously do well to heed the events that are taking place around us. We would do well to heed the solar event that is taking place on Monday. And if anything we should be on our knees and perhaps on our faces crying out that God would have mercy on the few who may look at this event. And cry out to God lord what must I do to be saved.

God is speaking. The question is are we listening?

It is ironic to note that on August 21st, 1914 there was a solar eclipse over Western Europe. In June of that same here Archduke Ferdinand had been assassinated which gave rise to World War 1. This was the war that supposedly was to end all wars. After the eclipse the horrors of World War 1 the emerged in the European theater.

Thus a solar eclipse cannot be viewed as a sign of blessing. But certainly an omen of bad things to come. And certainly God speaking judgment.

One can Google the solar eclipse of August 21st 1914 have read about the events that took place.

Some in the forum will merely dismiss this as mere historical coincidence. Some will say this is merely superstitious. But then I dare say some will perhaps look at the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ as mere superstition.

But for those who are truly walking in the Spirit and watching from the wall. Let us look to these patterns and be alert to what God is doing. Ultimately the signs are preparing the way for His soon return.

The solar eclipse that will occur this Monday will be the first of its kind since 1918. The US experienced a total eclipse on the summer of that year. The Spanish flu epidemic broke out a few months later. There were recorded over 675,000 deaths on the US alone.

Merely coincidence. At this point I will let the Forum decide. But I'm prone to think that God does speak through a solar eclipse event.

His message would be unless you repent you will likewise perish. Or maybe I should say unless the church repents she too will perish. As I believe that judgment ultimately will be upon the church in America.

As one poster asked, "What shall we do to be saved from the eclipse."

As I stated before, August 21,2017 will come and go. But those who do the will of God will abide forever.

And to those who are quoting Matthew 24 I'd suggest that you study what is said there by Jesus, noting each of the numerous times that the personal pronouns, "you", "us", "we", and "them" are used. Just as prophesied by Jesus it happened.

History doesn't lie!

See you August 22!

Judgment will eventually be upon the unbelieving world who obey not the gospel of God. God may discipline and at times chastise His church but He is never going to forsake it unto final judgment. The church needs to guard against voices that produce feelings of guilt instead of the conviction of the Holy Spirit. There is a vast difference. God does not finally judge those who have been justified and made righteous with the righteousness of Christ. The church today needs more than ever before to learn to discern between voices that produce GUILT and CONDEMNATION and those which produce GODLY CONVICTION which leads to life. The accuser ministers guilt. If you are in Christ you have been found not guilty and justified and are not going to perish.

Bro Blaine,

You wrote...

"The solar eclipse that will occur this Monday will be the first of its kind since 1918."

....

"But for those who are truly walking in the Spirit and watching from the wall. Let us look to these patterns and be alert to what God is doing."

Why do you say that Monday's solar eclipse will be "the first of its kind since 1918?"

During the 20th Century, there were 15 total eclipses that stretched across portions of America.

Between the year prior to 1914 and the year after 1918, there were six solar eclipses (two partial, one total and three annular). Moreover, just 16 months after the 1914 total solar eclipse, there was yet another total solar eclipse (February 3, 1916).

In fact, there were total solar eclipses in 1910, 1911, 1912, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1919, 1921 and 1922 (along with twelve other annular solar eclipses and ten additional partial solar eclipses -- all during the same time period).

What makes the total solar eclipse on August 21st 1914 any different than the others around the same time period or the 73 annular and 71 total solar eclipses during the 20th Century?

It seems like you're under the impression that these are a sign from God. My impression of a "sign" is somewhat different -- in that I believe that there is a difference between a supernatural occurrence and a fairly common cyclical natural solar event.

I fear that we risk becoming astrologers (different from astronomers) when we seek after signs. The things that you mention about looking for the return of the Lord and the things that will accompany it -- including judgment -- will occur whether there is an eclipse (or the 224 that are scheduled to take place during the 21st Century) or not.

Mr. Bear said...We would seriously do well to heed the events that are taking place around us. We would do well to heed the solar event that is taking place on Monday.
Mr. Bear, can you please answer this. Why would we as Christians, do well to heed this solar event? You writing a lot of stuff that you believe, but your not explaining why it's going to benefit us. I'm ok with whatever you want to believe, I respect that, but you seem a little uptight and pushy, in your trying to have us all believe something we don't see as anything, but normal happenings that's been going on forever.

Some people seek after signs and wonders because they do not believe the signs and wonders which have already been performed. The Pharisees of Matthew were just such a lot. Jesus had been performing miracles for quite some time when a group of scribes and Pharisees came to Him with an insolent demand to see another sign. In response, Jesus condemned them as "wicked and adulterous”.

They were "wicked” in that they refused to believe the signs and wonders Christ had already performed. "In spite of his wonders, they did not believe”. Their hearts were hardened towards the truth, even after numerous public miracles. Nothing would make them believe; their hearts were as pharaoh’s, hardened after witnessing so many of Moses’ miracles in Egypt.

Bear- for every terrible event you can associate with a total eclipse, I could name 100s that were not.

That's the trouble with anecdotal evidence, and is an example of the logical fallacy "post hoc ergo propter hoc" (after this, therefore because of thiis).

It states: "Since event Y followed event X, event Y must have been caused by event X." Of course this line of reasoning is not sound.

I asked before but I'll ask again- what are you doing in preparation for the eclipse? I know I'm working from home to avoid the traffic which is supposed to be semi ridiculous in these here parts.

Brother Blaine,

Who are these "Sola Scriptura" guys you are talking about? You are mightily defensive and speaking in harsh generalities. If you have an issue with me, I need to know it, because right now I am completely unsure if you are addressing me directly or not at all. All that will do for anyone in this forum is cause them to defend themselves and argue. Definitely not going to produce good fruit if it keeps up like this. Let's be direct with one another and not shadowy.

Brother, you are walking a dangerous line pairing up a predictable event with devastating occurrences. All signs that are in the bible are supernatural in nature. Again, like the darkness during Jesus' crucifixion, it wasn't an eclipse, because the darkness lasted so long. The darkness that could be felt in Egypt. Not an eclipse either. Please brother, let us reason together. God can do signs and will do signs that are undeniably supernatural, as seen in the Gospels, Acts, the OT, and Revelation, but unless something supernatural happens during this Total Eclipse, what makes it different than the one that happened in Antarctica in 2003, or the one in the Indian Ocean only a few years ago?

ӢӢӢ Amos 8:9-12 ӢӢӢ

The above verses apoear to describe a solar eclipse and its effect there after.

One of the things that Amos speaks of is a famine of the word of God. God's controversy with his people has always been unbelief. The fact that there is unbelief means there is no word of God. Why should God speak his word when hearts do not believe it.

The book of Hebrews tells us,

”¢”¢”¢Â but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.”¢”¢”¢ Heb.4:2

And also in Hebrews,

”¢”¢”¢TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,  DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS.””¢”¢”¢ Heb. 4:7

Hard hearts of unbelief will equate to a famine of the word of God in one's life. If one continues to resist by unbelief what God is saying. Then of course that person will not heed how God is speaking through His word and in upcoming heavenly events.

Many who read my posts and will reject what I'm saying. But I believe there are people who come on this forum who have hearts that God is working in. It is to these that I reach out to.

For those hearts that God is working in. Please heed these verses in Isaiah,

ӢӢӢ Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course.

For behold, the LORD is about to come out from His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth (America) for their iniquity; And the earth (America) will reveal her bloodshed (Abortion) And will no longer cover her slain ( murdered babies, persectef Christians in other nations).”¢”¢”¢  Is. 26:20-21

America is about to be judged. And in particular the American church will come under judgment.  If anyone has Christ working in their hearts and reads this post. If you can see beyond my detractors. If God is working in your heart. Then please repent and flee to Jesus for covering.

For surely this event coming up this Monday signifies God rising from His holy habitation and bringing forth His indignation upon the American church and the American nation.

Do as they did in Nineveh. Repent.  But we have the greater blessings of the hospel.  I would say please repent from your sins and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness.  Flee from the wrath to come.  Flee to Jesus for salvation.

Bro Blaine

Brother,

Why draw this dividing line? You are essentially saying that only those who have hearts in which God is working will believe you and those who don't will not.

I forgive you, brother.

The church may be disciplined but it has passed from wrath and judgment if it is in Christ. Also, I would think longing and hoping for judgment to come disqualifies in a way many of those speaking of coming judgment.

I remember when Hale-Bopp comet appeared during the late 1990's, a guy in our church -- a self-proclaimed "watchman on the wall" -- announced that it was a sign from God. At Bible studies and prayer meetings, he went on and on about how it was a sign heralding the coming of the Lord, judgment and (hopefully) revival.

Another man grew tired of his proclamations and warned him, "Astrology is a sin, brother."

My question for Blaine (in addition to the ones that I asked before) is whether he believes that this total solar eclipse on Monday morning is the fulfillment of the words in Amos chapter 8.

I believe that the eclipse is what it is -- a total solar eclipse that occurs on average once every 16 months.

This doesn't mean that all of those other things -- including a call to repent -- are unimportant. We should continue to remain close to Christ and long for his return. We should continue to tell the world about our Lord. However, I personally don't believe that a cyclical eclipse was the "sign of Jonah" any more than I believe that Moses and the Israelites crossing the Red Sea was a result of low tide.

M

I really feel stupid now that I even got caught up in this thread, I hope I have not encountered any brain damage. The only sign that might get my attention on August 21,2017, is if there is no eclipse, that will get my attention. It's really sad that folks get caught up in these signs and wonders stuff, and what's even sadder is, when they push this upon others. We need to pray for brother Bear, as he has insinuated a lot of bad towards others in his posts, this is not normal for christians to be thinking this way, something is just not right here.

T
TMK

I think it's been a good discussion even if a tad frustrating.

I personally believe when the Lord comes the signs will be worldwide and undeniable. And it won't be timed with something we know is coming. We cannot predict with specificity the time of His coming.

When He comes, his followers will be ecstatic with joy and unbelievers will recoil in horror.

If anything, this eclipse should remind us and make us think of that day. I suspect at its height it will be pretty eerie, at least here in the south. There are lots of parties planned so maybe we should be praying that when the sun is at it's darkest fear will be struck in the hearts of the wicked which will lead to repentance.

And, IF this is true then the tribulation could, not would, start this fall[2008]at the Feast of Trumpets, (which technically is 2 days long: KJV Matthew 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only). Saints,

Thank you for your contributions to this thread. Posting it was for the purpose to share that it is "possible" that God is judging and is warning America as a nation or at least speaking to His people of what He is going to do.

We cannot live with our hands in the sand, we are living in wicked days and we should be wise.
