Well good for Benny Hinn that he is being honest enough to say that he was wrong, and to make changes in his teaching.

Kenneth Hagin, known as the father of the faith movement wrote a book called "The Midas Touch” making corrections to those that embraced the prosperity gospel. He even called the main teachers of the "prosperity teaching” in for a meeting, where he shared with them the error of much of what they had been teaching. However, it appears that it did little good for many of them.

God does bless his people, and some are blessed with wealth, but the purpose of this is to advance the Kingdom, and not to live extravagantly building their own little kingdoms.

Leviticus 6:1-5

Then the LORD said to Moses, "If someone sins and acts unfaithfully against the LORD by deceiving his neighbor in regard to a deposit or security entrusted to him or stolen, or if he extorts his neighbor or finds lost property and lies about it and swears falsely, or if he commits any such sin that a man might commit”” once he has sinned and becomes guilty, he must return what he has stolen or taken by extortion, or the deposit entrusted to him, or the lost property he found, or anything else about which he has sworn falsely. He must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value, and pay it to the owner on the day he acknowledges his guilt.

They also ought to give up the phony practice of touching people on the foreheads and giving them a little push to signal for them to go down like they are being "slain in the Spirit." If it's not really the Holy Ghost doing this is the Holy Ghost fed up with this also?

N

Well, let us see if he does works of repentance, or if he is like Herod who heard John the Baptist and did many things but not enough to turn from his sin.

"So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ will be of no benefit to you. I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses. For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace. But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us. For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.”

His net worth is something like $60 million. I have no doubt much of that is from donations to his ministry. I'll believe his repentance is genuine when he restores the money he fleeced from poor people back to them.

"For Benny Hinn to repent, he would need to empty his coffers, give every cent he has to good ministries, shut his ministry down, confess to his lies and false prophecies, join a sound church, and never preach again." -Justin Peters

I'm glad Hinn has done what he has and I am not trying to be a burr. Yet Peters is a cessationist who believes tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy to foretell the future, and healing ceased with the early apostles when the canon of scripture became intact. There seems to be room for doctrinal adjustment for him in this area I think. That's all.

Blessings.

God knows the heart of Benny Hinn in this matter, and Justin Peters doesn’t, so let’s not judge Benny Hinn’s motives in renouncing the prosperity gospel. There are still modern day Pharisees out there that need to remove the bolder out of their own eyes before judging
the motives of others.

What people are asking for before they will receive BH repentance is not biblical in any way. His repentance is toward God and his faith is toward the Lord Jesus Christ not man.

"Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”
””Acts”¬ ”20:21”¬ ”KJV”¬”¬

I have often wondered over the past several years if men like BH would repent and renounce their error and it is happening! Does this exalt BH? Not in my eyes, it exalts Jesus Christ and His unfailing merciful LOVE.

How would Paul have faired in his repentance if he lived today? I believe that the modern day Pharisees would be in much more unbelief than what we are hearing about BH. How can there be rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than rejoicing amongst Gods people?

If we claim to truly have the Holy Spirit in us yet are unable to recognize, bear witness, and discern biblical repentance in others how are we going to judge other spiritual matters? How do we even begin to minister true biblical salvation to others when we give them a laundry list of what they must do in order to be saved or believed?

Your going to bind them with over 600 OT laws and commandments and expect them to truly be set free? No, there are only two commandments the NT church need follow and until you get a revelation of that you will do far worse damage to people than the prosperity preachers.

D
drifter

David, he literally has gone on television and tried to sell spiritual gifts. For money. This has nothing to do with me "binding him with 600 Old Testament laws". The man has preached doctrines of devils. He doesn't even fit the biblical requirements to be an elder, let alone a ministry leader.

D
drifter

When Jesus was asked by the rich young ruler "what must I do to inherit eternal life" Jesus told him to "sell everything you have, and give to the poor." When Zacchaeus truly repented he gave half of his money to the poor, and restored fourfold to anyone he had defrauded. These are not pharasaical, legalistic requirements. These examples are in the New Testament.

Nigel, then you and I and everyone else who have not sold all that we have and given up our homes, spouses, parents, children, and siblings are doomed.

Are you saying that Jesus expected the religious ruler to trust in keeping the commandments was going to save him? That contradicts how one is truly saved. If anyone could be saved by keeping the commandments Jesus died in vain.

If you read the whole context of this exchange Jesus is trying to get him to focus on Faith in God and not religion or the law. Even Peter said to Jesus Who then can be saved if we have to do all these things? Jesus said with MAN it is impossible meaning if you are trusting in what you do to enter the kingdom of God it won’t work. It’s a heart issue not a works issue.

There is nothing wrong in having money or possessions as long as you rule over them and they don’t rule over you. In fact Jesus condemns those who don’t take the wealth He gives them and they don’t multiply it which is a stewardship issue.

So if you yourself own a home, have money in the Bank, and have not forsaken every single person in your family you are just as lost and without hope as Benny Hinn.

I am not wishing to be contentious with you Nigel but how we judge others is how we will be judged. In your eyes there is no hope for BH unless he does this or does that and like Jesus said with man it is impossible but with God all things are possible. Only God can save, only God can draw, only God can grant repentance to whomsoever He wills.

As for Zacchaeus all the things he said he was going to do were a fruit or proof of his salvation not the cause. When Jesus told him that Salvation came to his house Jesus was speaking of Himself and that HE IS the salvation.

So if God is working in BH what he does or is led to do to restore, reconcile, or pay restitution is between BH and God in my opinion. The interview Greg posted of BH sounds genuine and sets well in my spirit. I don’t feel it exalts BH in any way but exalts Jesus Christ. I can tell you that it compels me to be that much more pleasing to God because He is so rich in mercy.

I do appreciate your thoughts Nigel and for allowing me to express mine. I don’t visit here to much because of all the contention and strife.

For some time can only tell if what God is doing in BH is genuine. For me, I accept his statement of repentance just like I wanted God to forgive me when I asked Him to and I will pray for BH and praise God at the same time.

There is no doubt that Benny Hinn failed in his ministry, and he has acknowledged this in a recent interview with Steven Strang.

Our merciful Lord always receives true repentance. So I am thankful for any man that has been in error, acknowledging it, and turning to the truth.

David, it is not my intention to strive with you or slander Benny Hinn.

Jesus took the rich young ruler through the commandments (much like Ray Comfort does in his evangelism). He used the commandments to expose the idol in this man's heart: money.

Of course it is not wrong to have material possessions. But I can't believe his repentance is genuine until he actually makes restitution to all the people he took money from.

Remember how angry Jesus was when the Pharisees turned religion into a money making scam. He said they devoured widow's houses.

Please, please christians, use your discernment. It's not being judgmental to expose charlatans.

D

Amen brother totally agree. There must be something said about ones open confession before the whole world.

Nigel, thanks for sharing your thoughts and understanding in this matter. I appreciate and believe you do not want to strive or argue as well. But again, I cannot help but go back to what true biblical repentance is and how it begins from Gods perspective. Look at this portion concerning Saul/Paul’s repentance and Gods response to Ananias.

"As Saul was coming near the city of Damascus, suddenly a light from the sky flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul! Why do you persecute me?” "Who are you, Lord?” he asked. "I am Jesus, whom you persecute,” the voice said. "But get up and go into the city, where you will be told what you must do.” The men who were traveling with Saul had stopped, not saying a word; they heard the voice but could not see anyone. Saul got up from the ground and opened his eyes, but could not see a thing. So they took him by the hand and led him into Damascus. For three days he was not able to see, and during that time he did not eat or drink anything. There was a believer in Damascus named Ananias. He had a vision, in which the Lord said to him, "Ananias!” "Here I am, Lord,” he answered. The Lord said to him, "Get ready and go to Straight Street, and at the house of Judas ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying, and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and place his hands on him so that he might see again.””
””Acts”¬ ”9:3-12

Now here is Ananias’ response and what God tells Ananias.

"Ananias answered, "Lord, many people have told me about this man and about all the terrible things he has done to your people in Jerusalem. And he has come to Damascus with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who worship you.” The Lord said to him, "Go, because I have chosen him to serve me, to make my name known to Gentiles and kings and to the people of Israel. And I myself will show him all that he must suffer for my sake.””
””Acts”¬ ”9:13-16”¬ ”

Paul said of himself that he was chief amongst all sinners yet God chose him and saved him. He was not only accepted by Ananias but all the disciples as well. I am sure Paul even had some whom he had murdered their loved ones forgive and accept Paul.

Which brings to mind the thief on the cross. What did he do? Did he make any restitution before being forgiven?

I don’t believe for one second BH pocketed every offering and that absolutely none of it was used to operate the ministry. So again, as God told Ananias not to worry about Paul and his repentance. God said he would take care Of the suffering Paul would endure for the Kimgdom and the Gospel.

I was spared ever feeling led to follow BH and all the others so my defense of BH is in no way personal. My defense is of the Gospel and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I can take his confession and willingness to forsake the sin and the lie and then by faith leave the results up to God.

Thank you both again, God Bless!!!!

Benny's Hinn operated in unclean spirits. I've seen video footage of him onstage with demon-possessed Rodney Howard-Browne. Likewise. I've seen video of Howard-Browne and Kenneth Copeland talking TO each other in tongues and laughing maniacally before 'zapping' other people, causing them to fall down and twitch uncontrollably. You can watch videos of any number of Hindu gurus doing the same thing to their devotees.

While sound doctrine is important, what does it matter if one has the right words, but the wrong spirit? Even Satan can quote scripture, as seen when he tried to tempt Jesus in the wilderness.

When Benny confesses to and repents of SORCERY then that will indeed be a time to rejoice. But these people who make merchandise of other people with "big business churchianity" will always put a new spin on what they are doing in order to keep the spotlight.

A
AbideinHim

For some people, no amount of repentance is good enough to satisfy their judgmental, critical spirits. It is mostly the same ones that have established a pattern of accusations against the brethren. Alec , you have called Steve Hill a false teacher, and so I am not a bit surprised that you would totally overlook Benny Hinn’s confession, and bring up sins from his past. When I hear something like this, what I am hearing is the voice of the accuser of the brethren.

M
MrBillPro

Thank you Brother Mike. It's amazing that some want to sit in judgement, of something that is between God and BH. As Christians, we should be very careful, I'm sure not going to comment on other things BH should be doing besides his repenting. He just repented, can't we all just give God a little more time to work in BH life? Your anger and hate will never move God to do anything, but your Love sure will.

There's only one minister that I personally know of that never sinned, and his name was Jesus Christ, please don't be a Jesus Christ JR. and sit in judgement, unless you have never sinned. For some here when I read these comments, I guess the Blood Of Jesus is not enough, I also would imagine, that some here have done worse than BH, just in a different way, but if you must continue to Judge, go ahead, cast the first stone!

I am glad that BH denounced this false teaching. He has done much damage to the kingdom of God. Souls got forever lost because they were entangled in this nonsense.

I had come out of this "Prosperity teaching/Holy Laughter/Slain in the spirit" type of false revival after God deal with me and led me to face reality. I am forever indebted to SI featured preachers for pointing me towards the truth, and I am glad that I could meet some of those in person. I tried to reach out to those of my church who were swept away by it, but they more of less thought I was a bit strange.

I listened to this video. I do not know what to make out of it, I miss a statement about his involvement in the "holy laughter/slain" in the spirit movement that have intoxicated millions.

Confession is just the first step of repentance.
Repentance must bring fruit, restoration and restituion. John the Baptist was not fooled by those who just had some shallow motions about repentance and spoke harsh words I am sure you all know.

I pray that Benny Hinn will not stop short but will go all the way. May the Lord help him, he did a good step in the right direction, yet he has a long way to go to come clean.

Lets see if it is in the lines of Psalm 51 or if he just made some adjustments because he was found out. Herod followed John the Baptist in many things, but he never really turned from sin.

There were other pastors before BH who confessed their sin publically, you can check for yourself if they did so because they had no choice or if it was genuine repentance, restituion, restoration and righteous living afterwards.

Let us not condemn him, but let us not be fooled either. I will pray for him.

That may be what *you* are hearing, but that doesn't mean your perceptions are correct.

I didn't speak of Benny Hinn's past sins. I spoke of something far worse: demonic possession & impartation.

How does a man operating in another spirit ever get free of it & NEVER admit to operating in an unclean spirit, performing false miracles? This is very, very serious.

Mike, if you cannot recognize the Holy Spirit operating through a sanctified vessel for Christ as opposed to a counterfeit profiteer who beguiles unstable souls---what can I say?

May we all be guided into all truth, and free of deceiving spirits and "cunningly devised fables."

A lot going on. Many talking about this. I dont know what he will do from here but I watched a 28 minute interview with Hinn. He seemed very sincere and mainly concerned with young Christians and young pastors just beginning. He believes the Bible teaches prosperity but it can be in all things not just money but can include the monetary. He said the giving to obtain had become a gimmick instead of being motivated out of love for Jesus. He believes the trouble with the modern prosperity movement is the way it has come to be presented. As a gimmick. He said the gospel and miracles CANNOT be bought and wants his message from now on to be centered on the saving cross of Jesus. He clearly explained what the true gospel is.

I personally believe making the Holy Ghost a onstage play thing needs to repented of also. Yet he was sincere and articulate in this interview regarding the prosperity gospel of today.

Yes, his repentance is not complete but we should encourage it and pray for him.

D
dfella

At what point was the thief on the cross, next to Jesus, was his repentance complete?

The woman in Luke 7 who washed Jesus’ feet with her tears, at what point were her sins forgiven?

The paralytic man who was lowered down through the roof by his friends and Jesus said, Thy sins are forgiven BECAUSE of the faith of his friends not the faith of the man who needed healing.

Must we all be like Thomas and refuse to believe until we see? Are we so intent in reaping the harvest of men’s souls when this is soley meant for God and not us?

Whatever restitution GOD leads Benny Hinn to restore is between God and him. But the restitution is NOT a condition to be forgiven. No where in the Bible does God ever tell us that works will ever save us. We are created unto good works but the works come AFTER we are saved and forgiven.

People say BH destroyed many who desires to come to God. I don’t believe that because BH was never the reaper of men’s souls. Even if the unsuspecting come seeking after God with a pure heart and pure intentions do you really believe God would not save them? God would save them in spite of any error or deception being taught because He is the true shepherd.

If a man sows into a ministry that is in error but he truly believes he is sowing into Gods Kingdom and NOT so that he might receive something back, do you believe God will not honor his gift in spite of what might be going on behind the scenes?

I want to encourage you to get your eyes off of MEN. They will NEVER hinder Gods calling, salvation, and purpose for those whom HE is drawing. Our salvation is progressive, there is growth as we mature, where we once needed milk we eventually are fed meat.

Who could ever say that their walk with the Lord has not evolved or grown? I have done things since I was saved and followed ministers I no longer follow for a variety of reasons and I would never do things I did in the past or ever desire to follow certain ministers. But does that mean those things did not have a place in my life?

"When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”
””1 Corinthians”¬ ”13:11”¬ ”KJV”¬”¬

I say this with all humility please be careful with what measure you choose to judge. Don’t limit God. If He desires to save, forgive, and restore BH what is that to you? Just follow Jesus.

N
narrowpath

Mat 3 6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

This is repentance. Heart first then works. God works from the inside out. Works evidences change of heart. No works evidence no change of heart.

Do not judge applies to a persons standing with the Lord, as it is invisible. However we must make judgments when we are facing hard facts and behaviour that effects other people. Would you allow a former thief to handle money in church? A convicted offender to be involved in kids ministry? Would you marry a former prostitute? Perhaps, but you need assurances that can only evidenced in outside behaviour as we cannot look into the heart of people.

Time has to prove if the Benny Hinn tree bears edible fruit.

What? So everyone on this earth that has done wrong in their life, and accumulated money or material things during this period, are to get rid of these things before God can accept their repentance? Can you please lead me to scripture that backs that up?

N

Even sinners can make justified gains, no doubt. I mean only those things that were gained by deceit, not those gained by normal means of labour or investment.

Repentance is a change of heart and something you do.
Look what Zacchaeus did and he did it joyful because Jesus invited himself first to his house.

I cannot imagine Jesus would have entered his house if he had kept his loot.

Even Judas returned money he got by dishonest gain.
If that does not tell you something..

And if you whish, BH reads the OT in original Hebrew daily, so he would know:

Exodus: 22:7
7 If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.
8 If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbour's goods.
9 For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.

and further

Leviticus 6 King James Version (KJV)
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the Lord, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour;
3 Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein:
4 Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which he found,
5 Or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more thereto, and give it unto him to whom it appertaineth, in the day of his trespass offering.

M
MrBillPro

Exodus: 22:7
7 If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.

Benny Hinn did not steal from anyone,or deceive anyone, they have a free will, and gave to freely to his ministry. Remember what it says in Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms".The spiritual forces of evil, is what some allowed to work through them, scripture says right there, "our struggle is not against flesh and blood" I didn't say that, God did.

"Repentance is a change of heart and something you do"

Give the man a break! he just repented, most hearts don't change overnight.

"Even Judas returned money he got by dishonest gain.
If that does not tell you something"..

No! that only tells me Judas did this, Benny Hinn is not Judas, and were in the 21st century, Jesus is not walking the earth as he did during that time.

I really don't like to get into these debates, this is why I stay away from posting here anymore, but here's the REAL question, do you forgive Benny Hinn?

S

Never mind his words (for the moment)...he has operated in a false anointing (demonic spirits) for years. He can discard a doctrine, but how does he get deliverance from wicked spirits and never renounce sorcery?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xdUIqKJyD0Q

I can point you to videos of Hindu gurus doing the same thing in the above Hinn video, as well as stage hypnotists, & martial artists using the kundalini (spirit of the serpent)/chi/ki energy. This is not the work of the Holy Spirit. Nowhere in the Scriptures is the working of God so described. Even the classical Pentecostals almost a century ago, right up to men like B. H. Clendennen, did not operate like this.

Case in point, a chi energy video:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nu99GRUUN6Y

These people are not born again followers of Jesus Christ, but have opened themselves up to the paranormal & supernatural. Be not deceived, saints.

N

Exactly, this false annointing has wrecked serious havok. It originated from BH and fell on Rodney Howard Browne and then culminated in the "Toronto Blessing" . It was not from God, but a counterfeit. I was in such a church for 10 years, until SI featured teaching helped me to come clear. It was like a drug addiciton. The Lord had to take me through years of chastisment until my blind spiritual eyes were opened. Most of those who were in this movement never managed to come clear.

This is much more serious than taking money devoted to God into his own pocket.

Remember Benhadad's superficial repentance in 1.Kings 20:31-43. Even he offered restitution.

I am still praying for BH to go all the way to come clear.
