This is the 2nd in the series of Ravenhill quotes. The first thread can be viewed here: Ravenhill Quotes.I thought it would be intresting to start a thread so you could share good quotes from Leonard Ravenhill sermons that you hear or watch:"We Christians are debtors to all men at all times in all places, but we are so smug to the lostness of men. We've been "living in Laodicea ", lax, loose, lustful, and lazy. Why is there this criminal indifference to the lostness of men? Our condemnation is that we know how to live better than we are living."-Leonard Ravenhill

"We live in a generation that has never known revival—God's way. True revival changes the moral climate of an area or a nation. Without exception, all true revivals of the past began after years of agonizing, hell-robbing, earth-shaking, heaven-sent intercession. The secret to true revival in our own day is still the same. But where, oh, where, are the intercessors?"-Leonard Ravenhill
"It costs something to hear from God."-Leonard Ravenhill
"God doesn't answer prayer, He answers desperate prayer!"-Leonard Ravenhill
"If I could push the door of heaven and you could peep through it for 5 min. you will never backslide! You'd change your lifestyle, you'd change your conversation style, you'd change your eating style, you'd change everything! Listen, you and I are supposed to be eternity conscious; the world out there is blind and dumb and deaf and it's crazy!"-Leonard Ravenhill, Choosing rather to suffer
"There are more decisions for Christ these days than ever in history, but never a few are disciples."-Leonard Ravenhill, Choosing rather to suffer

"He didn't came to make bad men good, He came to make dead men live"-Leonard Ravenhill
Roadsign,Thank You for posting this quote by L. Ravenhill. It has really ministered to me.
"Our spiritual immutarity never shows up more than in our lack of praying, be it alone or in a church prayer meeting. Let 20% of the chior members fail to turn up for rehearsal and the chior master is offended. Let 20% of the church members turn up for a prayer meeting, and the pastor is elated."-Leonard Ravenhill
"The more men pray, the less worldly they become. The less they pray, the more worldly they become. I am, of course, speaking of professing Christians at this point."-Leonard Ravenhill

"No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. The pulpit can be a shop window to display one’s talents; the prayer closet allows no showing off." -Leonard Ravenhill
"Two kinds of people, those that are dead to sin and those dead in sin."~Leonard Ravenhill

"Make me little and little known, Prized by thee and thee alone" -Leonard Ravenhill
You see, the dificult things is when you start to move in sprituality, it's very easy to bear the criticism of the world, the roughness of the world, it is criticism of saints that get you down, someone says Oh don't do that you are getting to serious, you know our people will warn you - Don't get too spiritual, you never heard anybody saying "Don't get to rich", "Don't get to much educations" but "Don't get too much spiritual" -Leoanard Ravenhill (Give me souls or I'll die ~ 20min)
I am sorry I do not remember where I heard this, I have been listening to Ravenhill so much, I forgot which sermon he said this. If one of you remembers, please add it. Well here, it goes again:"The greatest temptation for a Christian is once he or she is on the cross, is to come down off of it."“Christ did not come to make bad men good, but to make dead men live.”
One my favorites although I can't remember it exactly or where I heard it:"The problem for many is the cross is a tourist attraction, but very few actually get on it"Blessings.
"Jehovah Witnesses don't believe in hell and neither do most Christians"- Leonard Ravenhill
"If you sin every day in word, thought, or deed you'll go to hell at the end of your life." Leonard Ravenhill

"I'm tired of bondage, I'm tired of fear, I'm tired of weakness, I'm tired of being hot then cold, strong then weak, I want to get rid of self-live, I want to die right here"-Leonard Ravenhill (in his early ages, taken from "What is your live? (video)" ~ 68 min
Let me tell you this: 'An experience of God that cost nothing, does nothing and its worth nothing -Leonard Ravenhill
And I believe that God is holding back, until we get to the point where we say, “I can’t live another day without the fire of God!” You need the fire of God to pray! You need the fire of God to see visions! You need the fire off God to RECOGNIZE…there is no help for us!
Prayer is preoccupation with our needs. Praise is preoccupation with our blessings. Worship is preoccupation with God.
"One of these days some simple soul will pick up the Book of God, read it, and believe it. Then the rest of us will be embarrassed."
"I have God, Jesus and two thirds of the angels on my side, what do you think I am going to do? Sit down and cry?" Love this quote! (Hopefully didn't misquote it)
"Because we have no sense of the majesty of God, we have no sense of the sinfulness of sin"
-Leonard Ravenhill
There are three classes of people in the world:
1.Those who are afraid
2.Those who don't know enough to be afraid
3.Those who know their God!
-Leonard Ravenhill
THE NAME OF CHRIST
If we today could rediscover
The virtue in that Name,
The victory in that Name,
The violence in that Name,
We could set this world alight for God.
The ministry of preaching is open to few;
the ministry of prayer - the highest ministry of
all human offices - is open to all.
"Great weepers in private are great reapers in public."
- L. Ravenhill
“Many pastors criticize me for taking the Gospel so seriously. But do they really think that on Judgment Day, Christ will chastise me, saying, ‘Leonard, you took Me too seriously’?”
Your doctrine is right, but your life is wrong!
-Leonard Ravenhill
The only time you can say Christ is all you need,
when Christ is all you have.
-Leonard Ravenhill
My generation is not so heavenly minded that it is no earthly use, it is so earthly minded that it is of no heavenly use!
-Leonard Ravenhill
Revival doesn't cost a penny but a broken hearts, and people that refused to live. They said: 'Lord change my lifestyle, change my habbits, change my sleeping, I don't want America to go to hell'.
-Leonard Ravenhill (Hannah - effectual prayer)
I'm tired of paper theology! I'm tired you telling me: 'It's going to happen', they told me that 60 years ago, 'It's going to happen, it's nearly there'. Our Paul (his son) told me the other week: 'Daddy we keep asking God for something that is almost on our fingertips, and we don't want it really...I don't want revival in you, I want revival in me, I don't want you to weep for the lost, [u]I
-Leonard Ravenhill (Anahiem Talk on Revival)
"The God of holiness and eternal majesty is hardly mentioned these days. The preachers used to declare with holy boldness to the pew dwellers, "You are lost." Today it is, "You are loved."
"Do any of our seminaries have a course entitled, 'Weeping for the Lost'? And if a man should graduate in that course, is there an advanced class for those who would howl in grief between the porch and the altar over our sin-saturated society?"
"No preacher leaves the closet of prayer with a sweat on his soul and offers a world of rebels the feeble utterance, "God loves you," without also stating, "God is angry with the wicked every day." No preacher is going to skip into the pulpit with the "good news" that his church won the top honors in the interchurch bowling league if he has come from the closet of prayer with eternity blazing in his eyes. No man is going to fear devils or deacons if he has heard the word of the Lord in the secret place of the Most High."
- Leonard Ravenhill
If your preacher doesn't weep over the pew, let the pew weep over preacher!
-Leonard Ravenhill
"We need prophets!"
-Leonard Ravenhill
"There is no fear of God in the pews, there is no fear of God in the pulpits."
-Leonard Ravenhill
"Let's be coucious everyday that we are the children of God!"
-Leonard Ravenhill
"Are you a new creation?"
-Leonard Ravenhill
"No church group that knows spiritual warfare has wiener roasts or even passion plays. There is a real warfare. I have said before that we are an arrogant, self-styled bunch of believers. We "believe" to the point of inconvenience - and then quit."
Leonard Ravenhill
“The true man of God is heartsick, grieved at the worldliness of the Church…grieved at the toleration of sin in the Church, grieved at the prayerlessness in the Church. He is disturbed that the corporate prayer of the Church no longer pulls down the strongholds of the devil.”
- Leonard Ravenhill
"We are the biggest generation of doubting believers."
-Leonard Ravenhill
"Die for Christ?? We won't even life for Him!"
-Leonard Ravenhill
"You think Christ died for this carnal institution we call "the church" today? not on your life."
Leonard Ravenhill
"I've got God the Father, the Holy Spirit, and two-thirds of the angels on my side. What do you want me to do? Sit down and cry?"
I love it.
"I read hebrews 11 one day, and when I was done the Lord said to me 'read it again', so I read it again, and he said 'read it again' I read it again, and then the Lord spoke to me and said 'not one of these people in hebrews 11 had a bible!'." (paraphrase).
-Leonard Ravenhill
"The reason we don't have revival it is because we are content to live without it."
-Leonard Ravenhill
"So you have a child that is going to hell! you don't shed a tear over it!"
-Leonard Ravenhill
"Preachers who should be fishing for men are now too often fishing for compliments from men."
Leonard Ravenhill
I think it is a danger of seeking revival to justify my ministry, to prove "we are the best people in the town". What is it say in Malachi "the Lord, whom ye seek". [b]We are not seeking HIM,
-Leonard Ravenhill
"Any method of evangelism will work, if God is in it."
-Leonard Ravenhill
A diploma won't give you unction, a degree won't give you unction, you can't buy it. you buy it with grieve! [b]you buy it with your bankruptcy
-Leonard Ravenhill
"What we need now is a revival of holiness. A revival of character. A revival of people who are utterly selfless and prepared to lay their lives on the altar for God." Leonard Ravenhill
"I dont believe that a man is a martyr for Christ because he gets burned at the stake. I dont believe he's a martyr because he gets shot. That proves he is a martyr.
I'll risk being misunderstood, i've said it before. Jesus didn't die on the cross, He died in Gethsemene. 'Not my will but thine be done'. The cross is the evidence of His death, he has already died"
- Leonard Ravenhill in "Sufer here or sufer there" 34:54-35:27
Arguably the best quote thus far for me. My friend had never heard of Leonard Ravenhill, he was born again within the catholic church, alone in his room and his bible.....God spoke to Him. He became a christian.
He said to me EXACTLY the same thing around 1 year ago. "Jesus didn't die on the cross, He died in Gethsemene."
I then said it to some of the preachers at my church and they laughed, scorned and mocked.......
It is still my favourite line, even before Ravenhill said it. Funnily enough my friend also said "No offerings in any of our church services"......lol the same as Ravenhill.......and both believed in "Perfection"
How amazing is that huh? Look at God's un-perverted truth!!!
Amen.
“You don’t love the Lord, you stay two hours in a stinkin movie theatre and not even pray for ten minutes. Who are you fooling?” ~ Leonard Ravenhill
A popular evangelist reaches your emotions. A true prophet reaches your conscience.”
- Leonard Ravenhill
God is not concerned about the size of your head, it is the size of your heart that matters!
-Leonard Ravenhill
Don't get weary in doing good: Somebody says you prayed too long. So what!?
We live in a world that it has lost his way, and a church the has lost its voice. [b]That voice has to come!
-Leonard Ravenhill
The most afwul thing in America today is not sin, as we thing of it drunkenness and abortion, I believe [b]the greatest hindrance in the world tonight is unbelief![b]We do not believe our God!
-Leonard Ravenhill
Disciples did not believe the Lord Jesus, if they believed Him, they would been lining up at the tomb, but they weren't lining up at the tomb. They were far, far away.
I think most amazing thing, and most disgusting thing in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ was that morning when He woke up from the resurection, and there wasn't a single person to meet Him! He told them over and over again, I am gonna rise from the death, but they just ignore Him, but He rose. And I believe it was there, that psalm 24 was shouted by milions of angels in heaven:
"Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. "[b]We have to recapture the majesty of Jesus Christ!
-Leonard Ravenhill
We are stacked up with teology today. [b]But where is the living Christ?
-L.Ravenhill
We have so wonderful people in the world today: we have people that walk at the bottom of the ocean, we've got people walking on the moon, but [b]we need men walking with God!
-Leonard Ravenhill
The Holy Book of the living God suffers more from its exponents today than from its opponents.
-Leonard Ravenhill
"Finney would preach as many as 28 nights and leave people in misery night after night. He didn't try to get them through quickly. You want to commit sins 15 years and then forget it in 15 seconds? God says no." Leonard Ravenhill
I find this very applicable to open air preaching. We'll preach on a campus and talk in great length about sin, hell, and judgment. And after preaching only the first day we'll hear Christians say, "you haven't preached about grace. Why don't you talk about God's love?"
We have such a shallow understanding of the principle of sowing and planting, and it's no wonder we don't see revival.

you make a good point there, jesse.
the problem is that you and your group preach nothing like finney. definetly with no Holy Spirit fire like finney, but instead you and your group are spewing out strange fire that is more from hell.
jesse, please stop hardening your heart, and take heed to God's warnings before things get worse.
“The new wine of revival will shatter the old wineskins of formality.”
Leonard Ravenhill
I feel as happy as a man tonight that has found the secret of
life and he could go to every dead person and grant them life.
I feel happy as a man who has found somehow the mystery
of solving the curse that enslaves millions of people diseased
in hospitals tonight. People in whom the lamp of reason is
flickering because they are mentally imbalanced. I feel as though
I have that answer in my hand. And I won't feel more happy
tonight to go and emancipate every sin shacked body than I am
tonight to preach to limited audience like this, and say to you
irrespective of your need tonight that I don't care a stamp of the
things about your malady. For the malady doesn't matter, it's
the remedy that matters. And however cursed and crooked and
deformed and twisted your life may be, if you're in bondage to
secret sin, the Word says here in it's wonderful emancipation
that [b]He!
not a system of religion,
not a series of pilgrimages,
not by genuflecting to the altar,
not by turning to the east to say your prayers,
not by making the sign of the cross,
not by the resolution of your will,
not by something which is hereditary, or something imagined hallowed,
but free grace abounds tonight whereby He is able to save you to the uttermost on one condition, and that condition is that you come to God by Him.

"I think Lord when we get to eternity, some of us lived many years, but if you cut us all off tonight and sweep us into eternity, we'll discover that we are only in spiritual waters to our ankles, not to our knees, not to our loins.
We are still paddling on the edge of the ocean of the possibilities of grace."
-LR
"Five minutes after you die you'll know how you should have lived.”
-Leonard Ravenhill
God has opened His treasure house to us. As I've used the phrase so often before: Do we really explore the possibilities of God?
What's the most exciting thing in your life? Don't answer me, answer straight up to God. Tell Him what is the most exciting thing.
That you become more knowledgeable, make more money, become more fit?
What is the most exciting thing to you?
Is it that day by day you slip in to Him and worship and adore Him?
"Christians are not perfect, just forgiven." (Some backslider must have written that one.)
-Leonard Ravenhill
"We have in false cults a horrible picture of lost men seeking lost men to lead them to a lost eternity."
-Leonard Ravenhill
"Can you remember the last time you didn’t go to be because men were dying without Christ? Can you remember the last time you pushed the plate away and said, “No, I want more time with God…?” Have you geared your life like that? Are you living trying to be spiritual and living on the travel plain? Are you trying to be spiritual and living in time? Are you trying to be spiritual and keeping up with other people round about? Listen, when God can get men that are sold out for Him, like Paul was sold out for him, we will move our generation. God is saying, “Who will go for us???!!!”"
Amen Brian! I love that quote!
[edit] oops, this isn't a Ravenhill quote. :-o sorry.
[edit again] "...you try to be mature in God, and the dwarfs around will look and sneer at you and say 'you're trying to be holier than the rest of us huh'"
reputation is what men think you are character is what God knows you are.
reputation is what men think you are character is what God knows you are.
We are seeking blessing,
We are seeking success,
We are seeking ministry
God is seeking sacrifice!

And anything that cost you nothing is worth nothing to God!
-L.R.
Lord, at the Judgment Seat when maybe there be fifteen million eyes or billions eyes looking on me, don't stand there in Your Majesty, and read the record of my POOR life, and say: Son, I had many things to tell you, but you couldn't BEAR them, you were too OCCUPIED! Your ears were catching other voices, but not mine! That's why that damnable TV has to get out of the way, you are hearing all about men, than you hear about God! That's all got to change!
You see, people are terribly worried about eternal security, I am far more worried about false security.
We've got more people laboring on the false security right now in the church of living God than any period we've every known.
-L.Ravenhill
There is only one thing I think the devil can't fake, and that's a holy life.
-L.Ravenhill
"you are not going to pray because your head is overloaded with theology, it is the intimacy!....
You see every time I see a lost man is just not only going to hell, he is robbing Jesus Christ of a useful intellect and a useful mind and a useful heart and a useful spirit"
To me it is a shocking commentary on present Christian feebleness that while, in the first century, 120 men could move from an upper-room closet and shake Jerusalem, nowadays 120 churches claiming a like experience of the Holy Spirit can be in one of our cities and yet that city at large hardly know they are there.
In our spiritual warfare the churches must be shooting with dummy bullets. To change the figure, we must spiritually be running with empty freight cars.
-Leonard Ravenhill
You say God changed my life, Listen, there is only one prove for that, and that is the change of your [i]lifestyle
-L.Ravenhill
Your doctrine can be as straight as a gun barrell and just as empty.

-Is Soul Hot Preaching a Lost Art? Why Revival Tarries.
The following quotes are from the sermon, [b]A Burning Heart.
"The salvation of America does not depend on the White House, I don't care who gets there. It depends on God's house."
"Scientists don't believe in eternity but they'll believe in infinity."
"They say they've invented a new chip for, what do you call them, computers? It's as big as your fingernail and you can store 250,000 statements on the chip. Well, God doesn't need fingernails, but He knows the name of everybody that's lived since Adam."
"If your preacher doesn't weep over the congregation, weep over your preacher."
"When God is angry with a nation, it has no prophets. I don't know of a prophet in America today."
"The reason you're a dwarf spiritually is you won't eat the Word of God, you won't wait on Him, you won't hear His voice and you won't obey Him! The secret to revival is [i]obedience!
"Christians are worried about the World Series but they won't take the world seriously."
"Do you know why we don't have revival? Because we're content to live without it, number one. And the second thing is, the price is too high! And the third thing is we couldn't handle it if it came!"
"A man with the Holy Spirit does holy things. If you have the Holy Ghost, you'll live a holy life. If you have a holy life, you'll be easy to live with. If you have a holy life, nobody on earth - or in hell - can offend you. Once you get a clean heart - a sanctified heart, I like to call it - it won't make a hill of beans who likes you or dislikes you."
"There's a great joy in having nothing. You can't lose anything."
"The choice in America is either we concentrate in praying or we pray in concentration camps. Make your choice. Most preachers spend more time in bed than they do out of it. If you're under 40 years of age, I don't see any reason why you should be in bed after four o'clock in the morning."
"Entertainment is the devil's substitute for joy. There's a king in America. His name is called Sport and his wife is called Entertainment."
"Praise is the gateway to worship. Worship is the gateway to adoration. Adoration is what you do in prostrate on the floor."
"Don't forget, the house on the rock went through the same storm as the house on the sand." - from Purity and Fire part 2
A woman came to Jesus, loaded with sins, and He says, "I love you. Go home and sin less." Well, what did He say? Sin [i]no more!
You can tell how popular a church is by how many come sunday morning, you can tell how popular a preacher is by how many come sunday night, you can tell how popular God is on how many show up for prayer meeting. LH
