I wonder if anyone can point me to a sermon about Gedaliah, the leader of the remnant of the poor people that the Assyrians left under his care to till the land.
He is featured in 2 Kings 25:22-25, Jer 39:14 - Jer 41:2
He was a remarkable man, who refused to think evil of a man who later assassinated him. His naivity cost him his life. For me it is one of the most tragic stories in the bible. God was blessing the poor remnant of Israel, but a malicious person, who would have been to weak to attack Israel while the nation still existed, waited for his moment to strike from hiding, destroying what God was about to bless. In the end the aimless remnant went back to Egypt which was a no-go area that Jermiah explicitly warned about, but then he was more or less forced to go with them.
