HERE AM I HUNG’RING
(10.10.10.10.10.10)
1
Here am I, hung’ring for the heav’nly food,
Which from my Lord descends, both pure and good.
Fix Thou my heart on yon blest home above,
Whence spring true pleasures and the purest love.
Here am I, thirsting for the living Bread,
O Christ, lead me where Thy table is spread.
2
Lo, darkness reigns with cruel tyranny,
From birth to grave it mars man’s destiny:
So, call forth light, and rend the shades away,
That night be turn’d into thy glorious day;
In every corner scatter forth Thy Word,
To guide us safely through this desert world.
3
Pray, send us teachers, wise in holy care,
To make Thy Gospel mysteries bright and clear;
Breaking and sharing all the bread divine,
That even babes may at Thy table dine.
The young and aged in Thy sanctuary,
Shall both be fed and treated sumptuously.
4
Alas, when we our pilgrimage shall close,
And bid farewell unto this world of woes;
Yonder the scroll shall open fair and bright,
Its myst’ries clear before the heav’nly light;
No more to dazzle, tempt, or cause to fall,
For darkness shall no more our path enthrall.
Ojo'je Dan'iel Ad'eyi on the occasion of applying for the heavenly cake from God.
