Ravenhill Rebukes PastorsDescription: In this recording Leonard Ravenhill is addressing an audience of 100-200 pastors at a conference. 2 of the pastors start to laugh part way through his sermon and this clip is ravenhill stopping the meeting and addressing those men. What a sobering judgement given showing Ravenhill's steadfast heart to the seriousness of preaching the gospel and desiring after revival. Ravenhill is 85 years old in this recording.
Ravenhill Rebukes Pastors
Wow, that's stern, but his burden is great.I only could hear audio, was this supposed to be a video?Kendal
Wow, what sermon is this from Greg?
It is only audio. I am not sure what sermon it is from actually! It is from a CD from Ray Comfort of some of his favorite clips and recordings of sermons. I would love to find out or get that sermon on SI. Yes his burden is great for revival, he is 85 years old in this recording and is desperate to see God move.
Wow, he takes really the time to rebuke them."if you are not serious, i am"
Ouch. Lord, break down your people from our high places.
I would love to find out or get that sermon on SI. Yes his burden is great for revival, he is 85 years old in this recording and is desperate to see God move. This is desperation. He knows that time is running out and people are not "getting it." I was thinking yesterday about some of the sharp things our Lord said to people. At face value I read them and think, "Wow, I would never say that, I'm too Christlike... wooops... what am I saying here?" Our Lord said some things that were hard words. I know they were loving beyond eternity, but He said them. What was the look on His face? What would we have said if we seen Him say these things? Would we have thought He was mean? i had a teen tell me a few weeks ago that the time has come that we are going to have to be brutally honest with people- the time is too late to beat around the bush.
This rebuke is awesome! It really brings out what he titled that chapter that is called 'Wanted: A Prophet to preach to preachers' in the book "Why Revival Tarries." He was the best example of the standard that God was calling the church through in his preaching. I love when he says 'no wonder your church is so ungodly!' Imagine being rebuked by Ravenhill, you would never want to show your face in a conference ever. I know I wouldn't.
I also think that the sermon is just like the message "Anaheim Talk on Revival." It's not the same event but he is talking about the same things in it. He mentions Pompei and how the Jews tried to stop him from going into the Holy of Holies. That is all I know about the message.
Wow..85 and misses sleep two nights a week to pray for them.I need this devotion... Lord, help me "get it" fully.shalomstacie
Each time I hear this, I sit there in stunned silence, truly Ravenhill was a mighty general in the army of the Almighty
Amen brother. Whenever I hear this clip I get a sense of eternity and the high calling in Christ Jesus.
Very sobering ! Did I hear correctly that it sounded like they challenged him with the threat that he wouldn't be able to get preaching engagements in the church??
"Are you pastors? you need to be at this altar now!""I will be praying for you when you are asleep tonight" - what a radical statement, Ravenhill was a men that lived in prayer, how sad that many pastors just play games these days."This is a crisis hour! if you are not serious, I am"Did I hear correctly that it sounded like they challenged him with the threat that he wouldn't be able to get preaching engagements in the church??NO, its ravenhill saying "I am not interesting in preaching in ANY church! I preached 70 years I started when I was 15! I am 85. I don't sleep 2 nights a week God has a record."- I am very much stunned after I hear this every time. What a sobering sound clip.
Hi Br.Greg,Thanks for posting this. Oh what a need for such men in the body of Christ, who live before the face of God with reverence. So that once again body of Christ will experience genuine revival. In Him,Shibu
It is from a CD from Ray Comfort of some of his favorite clips and recordings of sermons. How can we get a hold of this CD? :-P
The CD is called CLASSIC COMFORT, and can be found here:http://www.livingwaters.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=345&Category_Code=Audios
Yes its actually just a part of that cd called: "Comfort's Favorites"
I was going to post new thread wondering from which sermon is this taken from, but just discovered that you have already discussed that. From what I read you did not find the whole sermon yet?
Does anyone know what the rebukee said at the end? I can't make it out.
"I'm 85... I don't sleep two nights a week. God has a record."
I don't even know what to say.
I haven't made my mind up about this yet. Does anyone know why those two men were laughing?
I don't believe it's right to rebuke someone for laughing during a sermon like that because it could have been about anything.
Unless of course Len heard what they were laughing at?
id have to say like mark cahill...its not an option to pay attention wile the word of god is being preached.... and how anyone can sit and laugh wile leonard ravenhill preatches is a mystery to me, and even if it were something else i cant quite se what that could be that draws attention away from that mans preatching.
It's difficult, because then you would have to rebuke everyone listening! Most people I am sure loose concentration at some point during a sermon, if only for a moment.
A lot of times when I hear him preaching, he will say something that is so amazing, almost like something I've always wanted to say, but didn't have the courage to, that I can't help but let out a slight chuckle! You know those quotes where your just like "WOW!" with kind of a laugh. I wonder if it was just something like that. Probably not.
Here's the thought. Laughing is such an epidemic in the church. Jesus said, "Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall weep . . . [but] blessed are those who weep". I totally agree with your thought that they could have been laughing about anything. However, let's not miss the point that sitting in the presence of God and the declaration of his Word and an 85 year old preacher of that Word, they certainly weren't in the Spirit, nor showing reverence. They deserved a rebuke for a laugh for any reason.
