Understanding Katrina and Rita...

S

I know many disagree with me concerning my thoughts about Hurricane Katrina, and it's hit on New Orleans. I stand behind what I have said, and how I believe it was God's judgement on the Gulf Coast gambling and debauchery.Just wondering what folks think about Hurricane Rita. It's bearing down on Houston/Galveston... and like any major city in the states, Houston certainly has it's issues with sin, but not necessarily to the degree that New Orleans. Could these hurricanes blasting America where it hurts most... oil refineries... be God's judgement on not just the debauchery of a single city or region, but on the nation as a whole? What about the hurricane that leveled Galveston TX in 1900? 10's of thousands of people died in that one (no one really knows how many exactly). How do we interpret that one?I personally believe this is all part of the fulfilling of prophecy. I believe it is part judgement, part prophecy. The sunami, earth quakes, hurricanes, twisters... etc. All part of this scripture:Mat 24:6-13 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.Krispy

Ha! ... Ha! ... Bro. Krisp let me shimmy on out on this limb with you man! ... :-P You wrote;"Could these hurricanes blasting America where it hurts most... oil refineries... be God's judgment on not just the debauchery of a single city or region, but on the nation as a whole?"This is my take on the matter, and what i say here is my own personal beliefs so i'll not be arguing with anyone about whether it's God or global warming ... i think even in attempting to decipher God's judgment folk strain at gnats (see regional sin - if they're capable of seeing sin at all) and swallow camels (can't see our national sins) ... These hurricanes have wreaked first hand destruction regionally, but nationally we have not even yet began to feel the pain ... Yeah we feel it at the pump so far, but most folks in my area might be complaining about gas prices but they're still running their auto's AC ... What most common ery'day folk ain't seeing is what was spelled out some time ago in the thread:Info on America's Precarious Economy (Audio) ...https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=4586&forum=35#33749The once so called good life in the good ole US of A folks, is about to come crashing down just as the towers did ... And as Dr. Bates (christian economist) likes to point out, wealth won't disappear but it is about to be redistributed ... Many today to caught up in the gimmie more to appreciate what they have, will soon long for what they didn't appreciate ... Our entire economy (if it can truly be called that) is based on the continual shuffling of debt packages called derivatives, it's a giant shell game that can't afford any interuption to this shuffling in the form of loan defaults (not paying on time) ... Most Americans can't even get their "self" pre-occupied heads wrapped around how many loan defaults have occured in the wake of Katrina, and now comes Rita ... Like the towers our economy is at the slow burn, and we all know what happens next!i was thinking the other night what i heard God say in my spirit at the beginning of 2001 concerning these so called natural disasters, that they would come bigger and with escalating frequency, and that the subsequent social unrest will be catastrophic ... Look at what happened with the criminal element in New Orleans, and the anarchy satan launched with his crew ... Now imagine that multiplied in the wake of further disasters, with dwindling tax revenues, less law enforcement, and government bailouts ...Yeah LA., NY, Vegas, New Orleans, etc. may be sin laden hot spots, but we as a nation, have slaughtered millions of the unborn as "contraceptive afterthought) via it's condoning by our very government itself ... In my mind the cost of this national, governmentally condoned sin is enough to finally cause God's hand of correction against us ... Scripture says that governments are put into place by God Himself, and that a good one is a blessing to the people in that it exacts fair and moral laws of protection ... In fact Scripture calls governments His servants ... Well it stands to my reasoning that if His governmental servant begins to enact laws like first (slavery - which ended in that bloody Civil War), and now (abortion - which i think is the main reason we as a nation is in deep do-do now), can you imagine what governmentally legalized/sanctioned gay-unions would do to our nation's already (obvious to this saint) overflowing vat of His stored up wrath ... It seems to me that God is using whatever natural phenomena we've come to expect (which is why the debate as to is it Him or not) in certain geographical areas to make His points of displeasure ... So the mid-west seems to be prone to tornadoes, the Gulf to hurricanes, and the West coast to earthquakes (which i sense in my spirit is gonna rock the east coat too) ... i just wonder how much it's gonna take to make most of us sit up and take notice that "God is trying to tell us something" ...By my estimation God's hand of correction takes a long time, and i've personally believe that for the world (in particularly Europe) the beginning of sorrows began with WWI ... And i do agree with you that i think this nation America, who in our debauched blindness still profess His name, has in fact brought ourselves to His awful grace of discipline ... But what i see good coming out of this is a re-active repentance that will cause the mother of all revivals, the mother of all harvests of souls, the seperation of the true of Christ Jesus from the false, and the refining of His Church to our capability of being caught up to Himself ... Soon, and very soon, it will be all about His work!PS - You also said this;"What about the hurricane that leveled Galveston TX in 1900? 10's of thousands of people died in that one (no one really knows how many exactly). How do we interpret that one?"Has it been 105 years between these two hurricanes? ... Anyhow your comment also reminded me of this past thread ...Those crazy Puritans, that crazy Dave Wilkerson, and crazy me ...https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic_id=3957&forum=35&start=0&viewmode=flat&order=0My first reaction, especially to the kinds of devestation we've all witnessed in the past four years, is that of the Puritans ... Repentance, and "What Lord"?... :beard:

i wasn't gonna post the following, but it's in line with brother Krisp's thread ... i have to admit that i find the direction the Body of Christ is taking in reaction to these disasters so fulfilling and satisfying in the direction of representing Christ and His kingdom here on earth ... USA - The 'SORROWS' BEGIN? - by Andrew StromI write this as an outsider who loves the USA. I am a New Zealander now living in the United States - currently involved in the relief effort in Mississippi. The destruction here is an eye-opener for sure. But something is amiss in this country - something so serious - that the loudest warnings from above are seemingly falling ondeaf ears. For the last 250 years, from a christian perspective,America has been one of the greatest "Lands of Revivals" that there has ever been. Since 1741, America has seen more GreatAwakenings than any other nation. It wouldn't be hard to make the case that America is the most "Revived" nation in history.Yet that has begun to change. America has grown rich, and has forgotten God. She has turned away from the very one who blessed her in the first place. And lately it seems like no matter how loudly God shouts at her to turn around, she is too preoccupied to listen. Things are about to get pretty rough here.As I write this, yet another category 4 or 5 hurricane is bearing down on the Texas coast. If it hits the oil-refining region belowHouston, it could have a catastrophic effect. Either way, it isdifficult to see how the nation can keep absorbing these massive shocks. The human tragedy is indescribable.Four years ago, God sent the first of these wake-up calls to this nation. All he had to do was lift his hand of protection foran instant. After 9-11, America did get somewhat "religious" fora season, but this has since worn off. There was no permanentrepentance. Comfort, entertainment, and materialism still rule the land, and God alone knows what it will take to change that. The size of the shocks that are necessary - only He can tell. What will it take for America to repent - to turn back to the God of her fathers?9-11 didn't do it. The four hurricanes criss-crossing Florida last year didn't do it. And hurricane Katrina destroying the casinos, the oil, and the "Southern Decadence" city of New Orleans didn't do it either. The mayor was back there withinweeks, urging them to gear up for the next debauchery parade, known as Mardi Gras. Throwing it in the very face of God. These people have learned nothing. And thus, the wake-up calls will continue. But what about the church? Is she blameless in all this?I have a friend here who believes that America is about to become a third world country - all because she will not repent. The process is already underway. This is but the "beginning ofsorrows." Because of the new hurricane, I will likely head across to Texas with a load of supplies and tools on my way home thisweekend - they may need it more than Mississippi before long.Rick Walth, a revival preacher from Iowa, is due to take over thebase here. He is an excellent brother. Meanwhile, Darren Smith of "Streetscape" is now coordinating efforts for BOTH disaster zones - the one here and the one due in Texas. Please keep us in your prayers, my friends. By the way, we needMORE PEOPLE to come down and help. We have an excellent base here, and many needy people (and there will likely be one in Texas also). Please phone me if you can make it down - (985) 788-9939. Please pray for Texas, my friends. Brother Krispy,I guess that makes two of us that agree on this issue. America has and is continuing to push God out while letting sin in all its filth infiltrate society and we wonder why these hurricanes or any other disasters happen. I agree God is loving and caring but God is also a God of Judgement and Wrath.

K

I believe this hurricane to simply be another manifestation of what God is attempting to do with our nation. As I've been preaching since Katrina, I believe God has His hand on our nation and is attempting to shake our nation and wake us up from our sleep. He has placed His hand on us as attempting to shake us out of our slumber. Our economy will continue to be hurt, storms will continue to rage, and we will yet again go to war. Wakeup!

C

Perhaps this huuricane is about judgement. This does raise a question though...what were all these hurricanes about? Hurricanes since Galveston 1900Some were less powerful hurricanes...some were more powerful. (Camille reached 200 mph before it hit land in 1969.) Last year Ivan entered the gulf, spawned 100 tornadoes untill it reached the eastern coast, slid back down to Florida, crossed over into the gulf and hit land again! In 1938 a hurricane of immense proportions hit the northeast states, a part of the world once thought immune to such horrific forces. The mood of our nation then was low too; emerging from one great tragedy, the Depression, and about to enter an even darker period as Hitler began his rise to power. I have come to see Katrina as a cat 4 hurricane made catasphrophic by cat 3 levee engineering and below sea-level urban planning. It was another serious tropical cyclone untill it was amplified into the worst disaster in US history by our own incompetence.I'm not saying with certainty whether Rita is judgement or not. (I agree that we, as a nation, are spiritualy sliding.) I am saying it's important to put Katrina and Rita in historic perspective. These days are hard, but we are not the only generation that has experienced national catastrophic tragedy. Blessings guys,MC

...and we will yet again go to warThats what Iran is preparing for. They have built underground bunkers that would fit their entire government in. This has all happened within the last couple years. Hi brother Mike ...Since the sunami, and especially after Katrina, my phone has been burning up with folk trying to come to some closure on what's occuring now ... They already know my take, and some phone to fish for some type of a compromise in reasoning between what i believe/have said and what they're thinking ...i've told many a saint that in my flesh i often times wish that i could get past this gnawing belief that God is in fact escalating correction to us, by being able to take all the obvious data into account and find some logically based solace in many of the facts that you've mentioned ... But i can't - and that's my bottom line ... Pure logic does in fact seem to cancel out God having any direct hand in these catastrophies ... So as i, and most folk who know me, already know, when it comes to such events, especially as things stand now, i'm just incapable of being logical ... The basis for my being so illogical is my fear of God, the same basis that the much more unlearned, and far less scientific Putitans operated out of ...So the question in analogy for me is "Is it live (God), or is it Memorex (Natural occurences exascerbated by human stupidity) ... i hear "live"! (exacerbated by human stupidity and unrepentant rebelliousness) ... i'm a cautious, safety conscious nut by nature, and so my faith/fear tells me that it's far better for me to be right in the first explanation at the expense of my humiliation by those who believe the latter, than for me to be wrong in the logic of the latter at the expense of my humiliation by God Himself ...

R
Rahman

Brother Krisp you wrote;"To me, they are the ones we need to worry about the most."i understand where you're coming from, and in turn hope that you can understand my point of reference ... Matt.10:28 - And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. The things that are so rapidly happening now are not causing me worry, or concern, in that i know my/our lives are in His hands ... He knows the beginning of our earthly existence, our journey, and just how each of us will end ...He began at the beginning of 2001 dropping things in my spirit about where we as a nation, and a church, are headed ... In fact He had me proclaim it, which is why now folk are seeking me out soon after the point of Him shuting my mouth and preparing me for the next phase - The revival/harvest phase ... It's one thing to hear God say escalating devestation is coming, but to actually see the end result of such occurences - especially on ones home turf - well it's just gut wrenching ... But still the live/Memorex debate goes on amongst His saints, and the outright rebellion continues of the likes of those who've decided they're gonna party-hearty any how - come hell or high water (pun intended) ...Your comment has also called to mind these soothing scriptures of comfort ...John.142Thes.2Phil.4Heb. 10

Was Katrina Intelligent Design?September 2, 2005 — Sermons EditionBy John PiperPermanent Link Editor's Note: For resources on responding to Hurricane Katrina, see the "Today at DG" section on the Desiring God homepage. On his 89th birthday (August 31) NPR Senior News Analyst, Daniel Schorr, observed that President Bush had “staked out a non-position” on the debate between evolution and intelligent design. Bush had said that “both sides ought to be properly taught in the schools of America.” Then, with manifest scorn, Schorr linked the devastation of Hurricane Katrina with the concept of intelligent design: “[Bush] might well have reflected that, if this was the result of intelligent design, then the designer has something to answer for.”No, Mr. Schorr, you have something to answer for, not God. God answers to no man. Come, Daniel Schorr, take your place with Job and answer your Maker: “The Lord answered Job [and Daniel Schorr] out of the whirlwind and said: ‘Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Dress for actionlike a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. . . . Who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, and said, “Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed”?’” (Job 38:1-3, 8-11).Who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Shall the pot say to the Potter, “This is an unintelligent way to show your justice and your power? Come, Maker of heaven and earth, sit at my feet—I have lived 89 years and have gotten much wisdom—and I will teach you—the eternal God—how to govern the universe”?No. Rather let us put our hands on our mouths and weep both for the perishing and for ourselves who will soon follow. Whatever judgment has fallen, it is we who deserve it—all of us. And whatever mercy is mingled with judgment in New Orleans neither we nor they deserve. God sent Jesus Christ into the world to save sinners. He did not suffer massive shame and pain because Americans are pretty good people. The magnitude of Christ’s suffering is owing to how deeply we deserve Katrina—all of us. Our guilt in the face of Katrina is not that we can’t see the intelligence in God’s design, but that we can’t see arrogance in our own heart. God will always be guilty of high crimes for those who think they’ve never committed any. But God commits no crimes when he brings famine, flood, and pestilence on the earth. “Does disaster come to a city, unless the Lord has done it?” (Amos 3:6). The answer of the prophet is no. God’s own testimony is the same: “I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things” (Isaiah 45:7). And if we ask, is there intelligent design in it all, the Bible answers: “You meant evil . . . but God meant it [designed it] for good” (Genesis 50:20).This will always be ludicrous to those who put the life of man above the glory of God. Until our hearts are broken, not just for the life-destroying misery of human pain, but for the God-insulting rebellion of human sin, we will not see intelligent design in the way God mingles mercy and judgment in this world. But for those who bow before God’s sovereign grace and say, “From him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever,” they are able to affirm, “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!” (Romans 11:36, 33). And wisdom is another name for intelligent design. No, Daniel Schorr, God does not answer to us. We answer to him. And we have only one answer: “Guilty as charged.” Every mouth is stopped and the whole world is accountable before God. There is only one hope to escape the flood of God’s wrath. It is not the levee of human virtue but the high ground called Calvary. All brokenhearted looters and news analysts and pastors are welcome there.

Rahman... speaking as a person who is a combat veteran, I dont fear much. My concern is for my children. I dont usually think of myself when I contemplate whats going on in the world. But with 4 young ones coming up, I'm a dad... I do get concerned for what they will face. I know they are in God's hands, but what kind of father would I be if it didnt bother me, ya know?Krispy

Amen Krisp ... i totally feel you on that one ... The most disturbing thing to me as a father and grand father is watching all the pictures of the missing children from Katrina ...it's funny that you should mention the children because i started to include this as a part of my last post ... In the small (warning) ministry that i've had thus far i remember one night crying out to our Lord in desperation my major concern for my 9 grands, and my little niece and nephew ... i began saying to our Lord, "Lord ain't nobody trying to hear about a need for mass repentance, and this otherwise doom and gloom message you've given me ... In fact Lord, nobody seems to believe it - but Lord i believe You - And if it be Your will, for the sake of my children (meaning my grands, niece and nephew -for my children are 34, 32 & 30), will you honor my faith with your divine favor, by enabling me to keep them from having to face the harsh brunt of total need?" ... Then i kinda stuck in there that scripture that says "it's a good man that leaves a legacy to his children's children" ... That's the Jacob in me ...But you're more than right on that one bro ... "What kind of fathers would we be"? ... From now on i will be sure to include your children in with my prayer request for my own ... As two patriarchs seeking to please Christ, let's touch and agree in our faith in Him to rest in His will for our little ones ... Amen

Pure logic does in fact seem to cancel out God having any direct hand in these catastrophies ...Rahman,I guess I wasn't thinking that you were illogical...I just wanted to bring up the simple fact that hurricanes are not uncommon during hurricane season. In any case, it seems the true source of your concern is not a reaction to events happening...but of some internal conviction or unction you are sensing. Christ's disciples asked Jesus, who sinned that this man was born blind?Setting Christ's answer aside for a moment, the question was asked because his Jewish disciples believed (as was the common thinking at the time) that -any- sort of calamity was, in fact, a judgment from God. If you were born blind, it was God's judgment. If you came down from Galilee to sacrifice at the temple and Pilates Soldiers killed you at the altar - it was God's judgment. If you were in Siloam minding your own business when a stone tower collapsed upon you - it was God's judgement. That is what the Jews thought.Christ's explained that this man's blindness wasn't a judgment. That rocked their little world.Christ went on - the slaughter at the altar, the tower in Siloam - these things didn't happen because these men were worse sinners...That there is the key.The people in New Orleans are not worse sinners than any one of us, the calamity that has fallen upon them is this - they died - and we will all face a similar calamity, so it behooves us to repent - that is, to settle with the judge as we are being taken to the court.I don't deny that the calamity might be a judgment against your nation, or even against the city of New Orleans itself (especially considering the biblical precident set at Sodom and Gomorrah!) But I do not pretend that the people in New Orleans are worse sinners or more numerous than those found anywhere else in America. Frankly God could rain fire and brimstone down on any and every city in North America - and be fully justified in doing it - for all have sinned.Whatever God's intention was (Naham 1:3 - God has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm), it certainly is significant that "Katrina" comes from a Greek word that means to "make pure" ...Just my thoughts.Dan/\\/\\/\\

Setting Christ's answer aside for a moment, the question was asked because his Jewish disciples believed (as was the common thinking at the time) that -any- sort of calamity was, in fact, a judgment from God. If you were born blind, it was God's judgment. If you came down from Galilee to sacrifice at the temple and Pilates Soldiers killed you at the altar - it was God's judgment. If you were in Siloam minding your own business when a stone tower collapsed upon you - it was God's judgement. That is what the Jews thought.Indeed, they tended to think such. Such was and is a common view for about any thing bad that goes wrong. Job's "friends" had bought into an entire retribution theology as well, that viewed all calamity as judgment for sin. Though because we live in a fallen world as a result of Adam's sin, such has a hint of truth to it- though is a bit naive to think such, for as Job pointed out to them, and as the Lord also said, the rain falls on the just and unjust alike. We also must seriously heed the Lord's words in Luke regarding the tower of Siloam and the the mixing of Jews blood with the sacrifices, and consider condemning others out of a sense of self-righteousness- which is the point of the entire story/teaching regarding these things. Indeed, there are probably much worse cities out there than New Oreleans, and some of us might be worse than many of them and much more deserving of God's wrath. So we should heed, consider, and repent just as the Lord said, lest something worse comes upon us. Also for that matter, many probably think of New Orleans sins as primarily sexual, and see a great parallel between them and Sodom. However, there are worse sins than homosexuality. It is interesting to see that the prophet Ezekiel didn't condemn Sodom for homosexuality, but rather, for having an easy-going-life with many people who were wealthy, but also a lot of people who were poor and neglected by the wealthy. Was this not indeed the case in "The Big Easy?" Jesus said the weigthier matters of the law are justice, mercy, and faithfullness. Hmm.... I didn't see homoexuality on that list. Remember, homosexuality is not the only sin in the OT called an abomination. Indeed, an unjust scale is likewise called an abomination! Are you just? That is, are you fair? Do you treat your children with favoritism? Are you selfish? Do you look the other way in matters when it is in your advantage to do so?Are you merciful? That is, do you treat others just the opposite as they deserve? When everybody else is ready to stone another person for their transgression, are you willing to show them compassion and mercy? Remember, it is the merciful who shall receive mercy. There are homosexuals and prostitutes going into the kingdom before the unmerciful. Sadly, many "righteous" people because they are full of an unmerciful spirit wouldn't dare help those who are are in the "icky" sins, and thus will shut them out of the kingdom of heaven with them e.g. the parable of the Good Samaritan. Are you faithful? When you say something, does that seal the deal, or do you need a team of lawyers to write out a contract for you? Are you constantly late for work? Are you untrustworthy because of great inconsistancy? Jesus said these matters are the more important things, and are much graver sins than homosexuality. Repent, or you will all likewise parish!

There has been a time of sorrows in the Last months there has been hurricane katrina , the london bombin g, this hurricane but should not we repent first.uke 13: 1 - 35 - Study This Chapter 1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners F35 above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? 8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

I'l write as concisely as possible to my reasons the hurricane occured:We Exist in a Sinful World: We've had to deal with death and destruction ever since the curse of sin came. The Bible teaches "the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain" (Rom 8:22). This is just a hard fact to deal with. Cancer. Disease. Earthquakes. Floods. This is the heartbreak of humanity that we cannot escape every calamity even if we are living right. Is this God's Judgement?: Has God's judgement poured out on New Orleans for being a den of voodoo and sin (including the huge sodomy festival scheduled the week of Katrina)? Could this be God's judgement? Certainly. Do we know for certain there is a direct connection? No.A man I respect noted that the word of God is opposed to speculation. He brought up Luke 13:4-5: "Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." So we can't make the claim that New Orleans was den of sin above other cities and that is why it was destroyed. If this was the case why hasn't God destroyed San Francisco the nation's sodomy capital, or Las Vegas the gambling and prostitution capital? We Build a City on the Sand: Jesus spoke of the man who built his house on the sand as opposed building on the rock. Not to rob the parable of its meaning (that salvation not built on the Jesus Christ's rock will be swept away), it is curious in it's non-spiritual sense too. To a certain extent Gulf Coast cities get hurricanes. They just do. Yet we Americans still build cities along the Gulf coast, aware that hurricanes will come.I'm not trying to say we shouldn't do this, but it just makes questions like "God, why is Rita going to attack Houston?" or somewhat humorous in it's inverted form "God, why isn't Rita going to attack Iowa?" Well, because Houston is nearer the Gulf Coast and Iowa isn't. In a certain sense Houston is built more "on the sand" in that there are known dangers that occur regularly and we've chosen to build there anyways. And look at New Orleans, not only are they built near the coast they built their city below the sand in a way. And we wondered why the city was wasted in a flood. Why do I bring this "house of sand" theory up? Partly to show that some of our own calamities that we might blame on God, are often our own foolishness as mankind. People build on flood planes and fault lines. People overbuild in areas, not planning for drainage and cause flooding. And every 15 to 20 years a major Hurricane hits Houston. Is this directly God's judgement or man's foolishness of building a city in the direct path of regular Hurricanes? Is the Global Warming?: The hurricane that destroyed Galveston a hundred years ago was before the height of industrialization that we are now in, before what eco alarmists say caused global warming. Global warming is a theory rejected by most scientists and historically we aren't experiencing any more hurricanes than we have before. My Point: America is deserving of judegement. We should have a call of mass national repentance. Most big name Christian leaders avoid this. But let's not lead the way into Christian superstition and speculation. Beware of giving credence to forward looking generalization in the name of prophecy. I'm no prophet and I could say "America has deserted God and there is going to be a great economic calamity and calamity of earthquakes to come." I've yet to see a prophet that specifically predicted 9/11 or Katrina before they happened.

Krispy, as far as the Lord, righteous Judge of humankind and Father of all, has many many things, many to judge this nation over. You know that and I know that.Take your pick. Some here on this forum, wish to acknowledge some national sins, and ignore others, based on their cultural and personal views. Some of the unchurched, some of the unsaved view our pronouncements of Divine Displeasure expressed thru national calamity as the rantings of those under religious delusion.Let them, ...........fore their cries of terror and penitence will come too late. But here's the trouble, we and ours, our blood kin might get caught up in the coming storm. What if you lived in Jerusalem circa 600 BC, what would you say to a rampaging Babylonian infantry squad?..."I follow Yahweh, I never worshipped Baal, never erected an asherah pole, nor practiced divination, always gave my tenth...I'm not part of this backslidden heathen mob".you'd still be cut down, or deported. If this unique experiment called the U.S.A. is one tribe, then we're all in it together, and we will all be punished together, queer, money-worshipper, abortionist, war-monger, pornographer, saint, saved sinner, sinner, backslidden sinner, lukewarm religionist, etc etc etc.The point is this, woe to the church if they think that one sin is worse than the other, or that since those in the church hate their sin, and the heathen love their's that somehow the saints in America will ride out this coming national storm, (no, not Rita, the bigger wilder uglier STORM) .........said saints are deluded. There's a hard rain a coming.I was reading in Numbers 16 , about the rebellion of Korah, and then the Holy Spirit opened my mind, and it occured to me, thats what the homosexual priests within the presbyterian and episcopal are doing.....utter rebellion and anarchy, it's the rebellion of Korah all over again, 21st century style.we call them on this sin and it doesn't matter. But in the end, there will be hell to pay....is the sin, the national sin, restricted and confined to the sexual? Not at all.Is deceit a sin? yes it is.Thats why I insist that this folly called the War in Iraq is sinful, and should be denounced with the same righteous power as abortion on demand, and homosexual priest in the church, or pornography or worship of money.Don't you understand....they are all thrown into the same barrel of charges......Just as we are One Nation Under God, so are ALL OUR SINS, one sin under God...For which sin did God punish Judah for in 586 BC?For them all.

Sir, you wrote: Global warming is a theory rejected by most scientists Where do you get that. I read this in that subversive left-wing publication called "National Geographic"; Most scientists agree that global warming presents the greatest threat to the environment. There is little doubt that the Earth is heating up. In the last century the average temperature has climbed about 0.6 degrees Celsius (about 1 degree Fahrenheit) around the world

Neilgin1, out of my whole post you're going to pick on that? If you think that National Geographic is some straight laced cause for good in the world and on the side of truth then I'm not sure you realize how much they push a secular humanist view of the world. They are one of the leading promoters of evolution and billions of years which goes against Genesis.GrannieAnnie, I'm guessing by your sarcasm you also realize Nation Geographic is a poluting force against God.On Global Warming: Man will not destroy this planet. God is the one who will bring this planet low and redeem it. As Christians, our main cause isn't to get man to repent of his eco-crimes, but against his sins against God (which if you look over the whole Bible, never includes polution of the Earth in an ecological sense). On Hurricanes: My whole point was to say let's not be the friends of Job here. Let's not point the finger at one city or another and say you're so wicked and my city or my country is clean. We are all wicked we all need to repent.

pick on? Because I pointed out something that you wrote, that I do not agree with?thats picking on?Global warming is a reality, God appointed us to be loving stewards of a planet we insist on trashing. I could care less whether you agree with that or not, but to say "most scientists" don't think that we are changing the atmosphere of this planet is to totally ignore reality. This nation is a leader, should act like a leader, and sign the Kyoto protocol's, period. But they won't because it would disappoint their true god...money.Reading your post over, I thank God that our founding fathers were as farsighted as they were...what do I mean by that?I hear many within the american evangelical community saying that our country the U.S.A. is a Judeo-Christian nation. The United States of America is nation where a Christian, a Jew, a Buddhist, a Muslim can worship in freedom, without fear of worshipping in their way. It is not a Judeo-Christian nation, it is a beacon of freedom holding out the light to a tired world. It's time we started to remember that, and quit stomping about the globe being the world's bully...ooops, I meant world's policeman. This is the whole ball game to this experiment called the U.S.A. religious freedom, religious tolerance and when I see statements like Nation Geographic is a poluting force against God. this reminds me of the taliban or the mullahs who currently run Iran. There are many who want a theocracy in this country...dominionists...God help America if they ever succeed.Adam, what does the above have to do with you?I wasn't picking on you, I just didnt agree with what you wrote.

First I want to appologize for taking up so much space. I know some people don't like to read the long posts, but this is laying heavily upon my mind and I must say it. I have to agree with Krispy on this; I do believe these hurricanes to be the wrath of God.Why? Becuase we as a nation have turned away from God. We are a nation that is supposedly founded upon Godly principles, and we have turned away (I've been reading the Old Testament and this country sounds just like the people of Israel shortly before they were carried away captive into babylon as part of God's judgement). What does the Bible say concerning this? The other day I was reading Leviticus chapter 26 and these verses really stood out to me. "But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you. And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits. And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins. I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate. And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me; Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins. And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied. And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat. And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcasses upon the carcasses of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you. And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savor of your sweet odors. And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it. And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste."Leviticus 26:14 - 33We as a nation have turned away from God in so many ways, and we are without repentance, but rather we are proud, for we think that we have done no wrong. The messages that are being preached are rarely about repentance anymore. God wants us to repent and He will do what it takes to push us into repentance. The Bible says in Hebrews 12:5 - 8 "And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons."I feel it in my spirit that God has been pouring out His wrath upon this nation as well as the world. The book of Revelation says it will happen in the last days. I believe that in the days to come it will only get worse. God is trying to push his people (who as a culture have commited adultry against him by embracing sin.) into repentance. Are the people in New Orleans any worse sinners than we are? No, it is only by the grace of God that we are saved. However, there is always the possibility that God was trying chastise them into repentance. If this is the case, I don't think they got the point. Instead of calling out to God, the aftermath of Katrina brought about violence and rioting, rape, theft, and even murder. I find it a bit curious that Rita is heading toward Texas, or more directly, toward the Houston area (where the refugees of Katrina are being sheltered in the Astro dome). Why is our pride so bad that we are not willing to admit when we are wrong and repent? There needs to be a call for repentance. We, as a nation need to get down on our knees before God and ask His forgiveness for our multiple sins against Him.Grieved in the spirit ~Shaun.

Grieved. Yes, I was so grieved over Katrina, I couldn't talk on the phone for 2 weeks and hardly slept the first 5 days.I would only come here and email just 2 friends, who I knew would understand my grief. But what also grieves me, is what sort of witness is all of this to those who lost innocent babies, wives and old people, etc. ?All this talk of "wrath", when the "wrath" isn't poured out until The Vials are poured out.If folks could only see what Revelation is saying. Why do we just listen to Tim Lahaye and those like him ??? Why don't we read Revelation with just The Holy Spirit's help ? (Jn 16:13)We are under the removal of the protecting hand of God now ... and that is different than His Wrath. (Rev.15:1,7 & 16:1)He is letting men have their way, until He finally lets those Vials go ... and we have some time yet before that comes.(I wouldn't say more than 10 yr.s though and could be as little as 4)I know I joke around a lot sometimes, but that "Man-made" thread, really needs more investigation ... when you allign it with God's Word on the Last Days. I've studied "technology" from their own sources for 25 yr.s because I've always been fasinated by what they are able to do. As Babel "nothing is impossible unto them." God leaves man to himself and they all but "destroy the earth" with their technologies, etc.. "If those days aren't shortened, no flesh would survive" ... can't we see what part is God's doing and what part of Revelation is man's, under demonic power and demonic wisdom ?I've asked before and I'll ask again ... use your search engines and just type in "global de-population" ... just for one, and ask GOD for wisdom to discern truth from lies. But, I really doubt if investigation is what we're into ... it's easier to just sit around and spectulate. But even if that were not the case ... don't we look strange as Christians, if hurricanes have been around since the flood, and we are now telling these folks, they lost their loved ones because of God's Wrath ?God "allows" these things,(if storms were from Him all the time, how is it that He "calmed them" when He was here, in the flesh ?), but if you could look at the pictures of old people dying from thirst in their wheel chairs or drowning in the Nursing Home and tell these folks that survived, that that was God's 'Wrath', then I don't know what that will do for us winning anyone to Christ. That's what's got me grieved. I don't know if I would ever get converted that way. Can't you see what the 'average unsaved Joe' reading all of this would think ?Don't you remember what you were like before Jesus cleaned you up ?I agree that "national repentence" is needed, but don't hold your breath on that happening. I believe we have been 'given over' and the majority of Christians have been given over to believe the lie of 2Thess2.When religion merged with Politics, that was when God took His Hand off of US, just as when Israel wanted a king ... and now man is killing man, and all we're going to get is loss of freedoms, more new diseases, more loss of property, foreign troops on our soil, world government, etc. etc., and we'll welcome every bit of it, because we've believed the false prophets in "the church". Those big named men that most of "the church" follows. Those big name men that are totally merged with politics now and even willing to go with Clinton's Initiative or anyone's initiative, just to keep their piece of turf on this earth. I'm grieved because we don't care enough to investigate and as God said, we believe what we 'want' to believe and would rather follow the crowd then ask Him, what on earth is going on.Work while it is yet day, because the night comes when no man can work .... but make the witness to the Lost right, while we still can.Don't follow the crowd. Jesus said, "MOST" will fall away in these days. That's what's grieving me. Would you stand in the middle of a hurricane ravaged city (in person) with dead all around and yell out these things ? Or would you preach the Love that was nailed to that tree for them, while you help them ?Don't you think they read Forums ?I'm sorry for my reaction, but I'm grieved too.I'm grieved because this 'is' just the beginning of sorrows and we don't have a lot of time left to give the Love of God to these folks. Most of the earth's population will die and only we hold the Word of Life, from the Only Giver of Life.

If our world is shaken we have to rely on Jesus. It gives us a deeper to desire to serve him and to cherish his cross. To Take up his cross of suffering so that we can take up his crown. Noone is innocent. We have all fallen short. We think of the cross as only being for a moment but the cross as eternal god in faith took upon him all suffering of the whole world on his sholdurs. Are god is crying more than we can know. My heart has been grieving aswell. Yet I cannot deny that the cross on which are Lord of Glory bare is the only answer. Some say it's God's Wrath, but I have to agree with Grannie, it's not intended to be wrath, but correction and warning, warning that is not being adhered too. Some say it's a national problem and look to nationally recognized politicians and church leaders to steer the ship back on course. Some say it's a regional problem and God moved to check the flow of sin unbridled in these areas. Some say it's the church's problem, for it has strayed and compromised out of it's biblical guidance.I say it's a personal problem. America won't change until we as individuals humble ourselves and pray, and TURN FROM OUR WICKED WAYS, will God hear from Heaven and heal our land.I do believe in my heart that the american economy is on the verge of total collapse. We simply cannot operate without oil and between weather and government sanctioned price gouging from the arabs, we are about to have a huge shortage of fuel to run the great machine.Traffic here in Baton Rouge has gone from bad to almost impossible since we doubled in size after Katrina hit. A couple of days ago, a man here in traffic got agitated at another motorist and pulled out a pistol and shot the other person dead. You are about to witness this on a grand scale when the economy collapses. "You have gas, I have a gun, now I have gas and you have none, not even your life." "You have food, I have a gun, bang!" They won't think anything more about it than breaking open a store front and looting it to the bare walls. What you saw of the looting and so forth in New Orleans is a preview of what is about to take place in all the big cities across this nation. Life without God is chaos. You are about to see the bumper crop harvest from the seeds that have been sewn in this land. Chaos personafied. Correction and a change of course can only start one place, in my heart. I must examine my self without concern for my flesh, and turn from all manner of wickedness. I must go to my God and ask for even more mercy served on an affirmation that I will repent and with His grace and help make a change in my lifestyle. The sand is almost all gone through the hourglass of prophecy. The time of great tribulation is standing at the door knocking, just waiting for the nod from the Father to begin. What makes me think that God will hold off and let me live out my life of luxury and self indulgence before tribulation is poured out on all? How foolish that line of thinking is. How empty such a hope. God is not a respector of persons. The time to change is now, while there are precious seconds left to do so. Will you? Will I? I pray that we do.In fear and trembling,Lahry

And His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field."37 He answered and said to them: "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.38 "The field is the world, the good seeds [grains of wheat] are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked.39 "The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.40 "Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.41 "The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness,42 "and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.43 "Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! John 1220 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.23 But Jesus answered them, saying, "The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.25 "He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.26 "If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him [My] Father will honor. These verses give us a Biblical reason to believe there will be no escape from being reaped with the tares and seeing them go into the fire. Anyway, we are supposed to be 'dead' in the ground already, our rebellion buried with our old man (Rom 6:6), if we are to bring forth any fruit at all. Notice v 38 'the field is the world'Now look at v 41 'they will gather out of His kingdom'So what happened between vv 38 and 41?Are we doing what we're supposed to be doing, so we make it to the kingdom of the Father, shining forth as the righteous???

Ok, let's say this is God's judgement. He has every right to do that. In my opinion, God is in control so whatever the reason, He is allowing it. Honestly I look at these crisis' as "mercy calls". I see Him trying to get people's attention, to get them to seek Him. If anyone needs to be judged, it is the church, it is His own people- who have turned to idols and spiritual adultry. But even yet, He is still asking for us to turn back to Him.Anyway, what I wanted to say was this: we can sit here all day and discuss "why" these things are happening- but what good is it doing? this is the time to go, do and be. Go and serve, do good works, be a light, be the true church, pray for lost people (if you can't do anything else). We are not called to sit around and make judgement calls. Ok, if it's God's judgement, fine, what are we going to do about it? There are people in need, hearts that are being softened by the brokenness, hungry mouths to feed, etc...Many people are in a perfect position to want to learn to live for the Lord for the first time in their lives. Who will go? Who will lay aside their own comforts, their own lives to bring Jesus to them. Sitting around talking about it doesn't bring Jesus to them. Here is a link to a video that Arielle made from our trips to LA and MS. I keep hearing stories of people who rode out Katrina in south Mississippi. They are quite similar. Trees are down, roads and driveways blocked by downed trees. People get out with their trucks and chainsaws and saw their way down the road, cutting opening the roads, making them passable for themselves and others. People in their neighborhoods going out to help others with no thought of compensation, just being neighbourly. The friendliness and kindness demonstrated to each other is awesome to these victims. Victims helping other victims.BTW, these are country folks...reckon that makes a difference? ginnyrose

HOW dare you make a comment like this; and in your heart of hearts curse these other Nations, who are you God?Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. (Matt 7:16-18)Either make the tree good and it’s fruit good, or make the tree bad and it’s fruit bad. You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil speak what is good? The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil. (Matt 12:33-35)34Jesus replied, I tell you the TRUTH, everyone who sins is a slave to sin… If you were Abraham’s children, said Jesus, then you would do the things Abraham did. As it is you are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41You are doing the things your own father does…44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45Yet because I tell you the truth, you do not believe me! 46Can any of you prove me quilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God. (John 8:34-37)In accordance with what is happening all around the world, I’ve heard it said, THATCalvinism presupposes that the goodness the power of God have a free, unlimited range of activity, and this works out as a conviction that GOD is at work in ALL REALMS of existence, including the spiritual,, physical, and intellectual realms, whether secular or sacred, public, or private on earth or in heaven. !!! (Oops HOLD UP WAIT A MINUTE) someone has been studying… (Wikipedia)I am reminded of a STORY, 1 King 3:1616Now two women who were HARLOTS/PROSTITUDES came to the king, and stood before him.17 And one women said, “O my lord, this women and I dwell in the same house; and I gave birth while she was in the house. 18”Then it happened, that third day or after I had given birth, that this women also gave birth. And we were tighter; no one was with us in the house4, except the two of us in the house. 19And this women’s died in the night, because she lay on him. 20So she arose in the middle of the night and took my child from my side, while your maidservant slept, and laid him in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. 21And when I rose in the morning to nurse my child, there was dead. But when I had examined him in the morning, indeed, he was not my child I had borne. 22Then the other women said, No! But the living one is my child, and the dead is your child. And the first women said, No! But the dead one is your child, and the living one is my child. Thus they spoke before the king. 23And the king said, The one says, This is my child who lives, and your child is the dead one; and the other says, No! But yours, No! But your child is the dead one, and my child is the living one. 24Then the king said, Bring me a SWORD. So they brought a sword before the king before the king. 25And the king said, Divide the living child/he in two, and give half to one, and half to the other. 26Then the women whose child was living spoke to the king, for she yearned with compassion for her child, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child and by no means kill him! But the other said, Let him be neither mine nor yours, but divide him. 27 So the king answered and said, Give the first women the living child, and by no means kill him/it; SHE IS THE MOTHER.Are you willing to give it all up? Your goals, your dreams, your life what you birthed, and you know that you birthed through much prayer and sorrow for the CAUSE?Forgive me but does this make me HUMANIST, OR A CALVANIST? Let me just answer this for you, I’m a Calvanist ;-)

What shocks me in this is the Deist like attitude we approach Katrina & Rita with, as if God created the universe and we just wound it up like a wind up toy, and let us loose. I'm no Calvinist, but God is sovereign and in controll.
