God, Gifts of
God is like a river from which we are invited to draw generously for our needs.
A certain emperor coming into Egypt, to show the zeal he had to the public good, said to the Egyptians, "Draw from me as from your River Nilus."
God's provision highlights His faithful and abundant care for His people, supplying their needs both physically and spiritually. Preachers often use images like rivers flowing with living water or quenching deep thirst to illustrate how God sustains and satisfies the soul (Philippians 4:19, John 4:14). These pictures emphasize reliance on God's generous and life-giving supply.

Travellers in the desert cry in vain, "Water, water!" Visions of fountains and groves rise before them, but are often only optical illusions. Gold, liberty, life, every thing, would they give for water. Seamen awreck, with water all around them, suffer in the same manner. Their burning thirst they seek to quench with urine, the blood of animals, and sometimes with human blood. To such how grateful would the invitation be, "Come ye to the waters"!
