Blood, book, song, wrath of the Lamb

Turn with me to the book of Revelation for a few readings. And the first is found in chapter 7 of Revelation. Verse number 13.

And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these that are arrayed in white robes? And whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which come out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God.

Now chapter 21, please, of Revelation. Verse 27. And there shall a no wise enter into it, into this city that he has been speaking about.

There shall a no wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie. But they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Back to chapter 5, please.

Verse number 9 will suffice, and 10. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou wert worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof. For thou hast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation, and hast made us unto our God, kings, and priests.

And we shall reign on the earth. And chapter 6 will be the final reference. Verse 12 of chapter 6. And they beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood.

And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And heaven departed as a scroll when it was rolled together. And every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every born man, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb. For the great day of his wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand? Trust God will help further. Great to see so many here, and wonderful to be saved.

Are you saved? That's the big question. What's on my mind tonight is to take from the book of the Revelation just very simple principles found right throughout the Bible. I want to speak about the blood of the Lamb.

And I want to emphasize the book of the Lamb. And I do want to emphasize the song of the Lamb. And if God gives me grace and help, I will try to close the meeting about the wrath of the Lamb.

It's a very solemn thing. A gospel meeting is a wonderful place to be. Wonderful.

I think it's one of the best meetings that you could ever be in, is a gospel meeting. Something about it because Christ is central, and we're emphasizing the value of Christ, His death, His burial, His resurrection. We're coming to this great book, this infallible book, authentic, authoritative, infallible.

And my friend, you have it in your hand, boys and girls in the front, right to the back. And in this book is contained a threefold theme that I'm going to touch very quickly. That is the blood of the Lamb.

I want you to think of that. Because when you're thinking of the blood of the Lamb, you're really associating it with His death. A death took place.

The blood is a proof positive that Christ on that cross, 2,000 years ago, bowed His head in triumph, cried it is finished, and bowed His head in triumph, and dismissed His spirit. And blood flowed from Emmanuel's veins. I want to look at the value of that blood, the value of it.

I want to look at the virtue of that blood. And I want to look at the victory that's found in that blood. People are looking today, they're almost bound by certain drugs, and alcoholism, and various things that are binding.

And you know most of the people, if you talk to them, they'll say, I would like to be free of this, but I can't. I'm bound. I try to give it up.

I go to this place and that place to try to break the power of it. I sat in a home recently, before I come here, and there he is. Week after week, month after month, year after year, and there's a beer.

And there he can't give it up. He goes to the detox center, but it's still my friend, it holds him. But we are going to tell you tonight of a power, of a message.

I wish I had the power to tell it the way I would like to. But we thank God for the absolute, infinite value in the blood of Christ. My friend, it's cleansing blood.

Why do we need the blood? The very fact it says here in chapter 7, who are these that come out of the great tribulation? They that have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Indicative. They were once defiled.

They were once, my friend, bound by sin. And they needed a cleansing power. I remember in my... I was going to tell my conversion too, but anyway, I tell it every night.

You never have to pump that up. In fact, I think if we had sat much longer, there would have been a whole lot more come up. I think Marie would even come up too.

I mean, it's wonderful to be saved under the banner of the emancipating, redeeming, reconciling blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. We need that blood to cleanse because, my friend, we're defiled by sin. Born in sin, shaping in iniquity.

We have gone astray as soon as we're born speaking lies. The best deeds that we could ever do, the Bible says, all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. And so we all stand before God, whether you're Protestant or Catholic, Muslim, Hindu, Buddha, whatever friend you might take.

Whatever religion, whatever status in life. Let it go down to the back of the hall tonight. We're all under the banner of sin.

Defiled. And the only cleansing power is the blood of Christ. I am glad, friend.

I remember reading that story. I've told it so often, but I'll tell it again. It happened in Chicago, I'm told.

And we're all meeting all the religious hierarchy. And we're all meeting, getting five minutes each to tell about their religion. Their rituals.

Some of them spoke about their rituals. Some of their sacraments. Some of their formalism.

And all the rest of it. And in that large building, as one after another got up, suddenly there was a man who arose. His name was Dr. Cook.

And he arose up and he said, I've heard all these different ideas from these religious men. But I want to put a question to them. I want to first of all present you a woman who's a derelict.

Who's a disgrace to the community. Who's an absolute tragedy. Drinking.

And every other vice that she can do. She's guilty. I want to bring her into the whole imaginary.

Then he said, Have you got a remedy for this woman? This man says the sacrament. This other man says baptism. This other man says join the church.

This other man says something else. Will that do that woman? Quite. Suddenly, he points his finger up heavenward.

And in a little short prayer, he says, Oh God, what will I tell this woman to cleanse her from her sin? From her defilement? From her debauchery? From her derelict condition? He paused. He said, I hear a voice say, Tell her, The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanseth us from all sin. Thank God, friend, there's power enough in Jesus' blood to cleanse the sin-sick soul.

Listen, friend. The blood of the Lamb. It's value.

It's virtue. Look at the many people in this meeting. Why do we sing about it? Why do we preach it? Why do we declare it? When is the Bible a red line running right through it? My friend, we point you to the Lamb of God, who died a Calvary, whose blood was shed.

And those people in the coming day, according to Revelation 7, they're saying they made their robes white in the blood of the Lamb. There's not a defilement upon them. Friend, I want to tell you something tonight.

All my sins, past, present, and future, were atoned for in the blood of Christ. Oh, you may say, Mr. Hall, I know you say some things, well, you may think that if you want. My friend, all my sins, past, present, future, when my Savior hung on that cross, and that blood flowed from Emmanuel's veins, God was absolutely satisfied.

And His virtue has cleansed, completely, eternally, all my sins. What about you tonight in the meeting? Wish we could throw that banner out. Or that lifeline out.

Trust in the value of His blood. Rest upon the atoning work. Look to the cross and see, He died for me upon that cross.

And that blood, precious, precious blood of Jesus, shed on Calvary's tree. You're afraid to take that word, aren't you? Rebels. Don't like it.

Not nice, is it? Well, that's what you'll take before you get saved. Shed for rebels. Shed for sinners.

Shed for me. Oh, my friend, thank God for the value, the virtue. What gives us victory? Like, what makes a Christian happy? I know we have our down days.

I have my blue Mondays. That's my wife. And maybe my blue Tuesdays, too.

Don't know why they always say Mondays. Mine doesn't always fall on a Monday. But I want to tell you, friend, what makes me thrilled tonight? It's lovely to see you all.

Lovely to hear those brethren speak. Lovely to shake hands with the folks here. I'll tell you what thrills my heart tonight.

I'm absolutely as sure of heaven as if it was in it. You know why? The precious blood of victory in it. That's what gives me power to live.

That's what gives me power to enjoy Christ, to enjoy Christianity. You know, friend, what we have tonight is not a sour, dour, you think the whole world collapsed. I only started to live when I got saved.

When I first commenced my journey, many said, He'll turn again. But they all have been deceived in the way I still remain. I remember the boys I played the cards with and sang with and danced with and went to all the hunts of pleasure.

I remember them saying afterwards, Give up for two weeks. He'll be back. They were very kind to imagine giving me two weeks.

Ah, friend, in the way I still remain. Thank God, friend, God's salvation is eternal. Not only for time, but it's for eternity.

Ask anyone here. I think someone would even like to come right now and tell you that. They got saved for eternity.

Not just for a year or two years or ten years. I'm saved almost 57 years next January. My friend, listen, stop a moment.

Don't go out of the meeting out of Christ in your sins. Turn to the value of the precious, emancipating, liberating, redeeming blood of Christ. Put your trust in Him.

And you know what it is to be saved. Not only have we the blood of the Lamb, but we have the book of the Lamb. You know, you could have your name written I don't know, in many places.

In church buildings and in different political places. You could have your name written in books in the hall. I don't know why they have all the names down here.

You could have your name written in every book on earth. Not written in heaven. But here's what the Bible says.

In that city four square, there's no way, there's entrance in there, only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life would... I should have brought a book with me. And I would just write on it, Lamb's book of life. I wouldn't start putting names in it.

But just to show you, God has a book. And in that book, friend, I'm using this, theologians will allow me. When I trusted Christ on the roadside almost 57 years ago, a poor, derelict, dark sinner.

My name was written there. In that city four square. Do you know I have an Uncle Albert whose name was written there.

So there's two Albert Hulls. And there's maybe more. I don't know.

But is your name written there? In the Lamb's book of life, is your name written there? Man, boy, and girl, tonight in the meeting, I kindly appeal to you, don't my friend procrastinate and put up and say, there's a meeting tomorrow night. Or there's going to be meetings maybe for a few nights next week. Stop tonight at this time, twenty past seven, and ponder this sincerely as a sinner on the road to hell turned to Christ.

Look to the Lamb. Put your faith in the value of the precious blood. And you'll have a name written there in the Lamb's book of life.

The solemn thing, and I'll get to it in a moment, that that Lamb's book of life contains all the redeemed. There's another book, and it contains all the records of every sinner in this meeting. And if you feel the trust in Christ, you'll see all your sins brought before you.

That's the record book that God keeps. But friend, there's a book called the Lamb's book of life. I am glad my name's there.

Another thing about it is the song of the Lamb. You know, sometimes I feel I can't sing very well. Do you feel like that? I love to hear good singing.

And this is because of my little grey hair now I can say this again. When I heard, after I got saved, 2,000 people sing. My mother brought me and my brother Johnson, Bruce, Evelyn, Ruth, and Eunice to the Easter conference in Belfast in the Governor Hall.

The balcony was filled to capacity. There was a minor hall that was overflowed and the sun would go down there. It all depended what preacher went there.

You'd find out who would go down. And when I went in there, just saved on January 27, 1957, and Easter time comes, and my mother... I've got a suit now. I never did wear a suit.

And usually the coat I wore was my brother's overcoat. And my pockets before I got saved had two pennies. And I owed money, which I never intended to pay back.

But I paid it all back. They were shocked when they got a check and said, there's the money for the motorcycle. Yeah.

Big change, you know, when you get saved. And when she brought us all in there and I looked at those... I'm like... My pronunciation's right. Help me out here.

I'll put it this way. Angelic faces in the platform. Some people said 66.

I don't go that far. Between 40 and upwards. All preachers well-dressed.

And I'm sitting there. Do you know something? Somebody had given me a little hymn book as a prize. Just a little thing.

And I can see it yet, and I'm not exaggerating or I'm not sentimentally trustful. I'll never forget when I looked over at my mother, the tears were just coming in her face. Albert's here.

And I started to sing hymns. And when I got that hymn, never forget it. All hail the power of Jesus' name.

And I got the little book. And I couldn't sing the hymn. Sinners whose love can never forget.

The worm within the gall will spread your trophies at His feet and crown Him Lord of all. I thought it was in heaven. So, that's on earth.

What will it be when the wave of that heavenly choir, and they're all in it, when that begins to echo and re-echo and vibrate throughout the everlasting ages of the ages, throughout the corridors of eternity. My friend, angels will fold their wings as Albert Hall and Murray McCandless and William Skates and these brethren, the Hayes and the Differents and the Verne, and all who are saved here. We're only a little patch of it.

When we start to join in the everlasting course unto Him that loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood. What a song will be in that fair glory. Presently we do sing.

It's only a little. What will it be over there? I want to close. The blood of the Lamb.

Come on now. We're not talking about church or joining church or getting baptized or sacrament or anything. We're just talking simply and plainly to your heart.

If you're going to be in heaven, you need to apply the blood. And the moment you apply the blood, your name's written in the Book. And you begin to sing even... It's a croak.

Not matter, friend. I like to hear people at least try to sing even. Come on now.

Listen, if you fail... I'm looking at you kindly tonight. If you fail, you're going to experience... In fact, if the Lord come tonight, which He could, it wouldn't be long until Revelation 6 will take place. And here's seven categories of people of different kinds from the highest to the lowest.

The born man and the free man. The rich and the poor. They're all there.

And when the judgments begin to fall upon planet earth, the tornado that will come through here is just a very little, little, little speck. Because when that judgment begins to fall, these men who have refused Christ, denied Christ, turned against Christ, hated Christ, they're beginning to call upon the rocks and the hills to hide them. From the face of Him that sitteth on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb.

It's not now the tender Lamb beseeching. It's not now the Lamb that's presented in the Gospel. Turn to Him.

Trust Him. Look to Him. Believe in Him.

It's the wrath of the Lamb. And that's only the beginning. They think it's the real... It's only the beginning.

On planet earth, there are going to be trip-hammer blows of God's judgments. The like of which the earth has never seen before. I'll tell you more than that.

That's just in time. Stop a moment. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.

He that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth. Continual. Tense.

And those who die without Christ, friend, how solemn, how sad, how tragic to be under the wrath of God forever. I know I'm a wee bit sentimental when I read George Whitfield, but I can't help that. But when he stood in the pulpit in the open air to 30,000 people and the subject was the wrath of God, that soul winner that saw thousands won to Christ in America, England, Scotland, and Ireland saw him saved when he was preaching on a boat.

He looked at the audience and with tears coming down his cheeks flowing there ever. He said, man, the wrath of God. The wrath of God.

The wrath of God. And he would turn around and he would wipe away the tears. And again, he would try to break out to preach and he couldn't do it.

I'm sorry, I'm not like that. There's boys and girls in this meeting and friend, we would bend backwards. Sure we would.

But friend, we don't feel for you the way we'd like to. Hold on to the compassions of Christ, my friend, when He told them to flee from wrath to come. My friend, tonight it's real.

Genuinely real. And when my voice is silent and all the preachers are silent, friend, and you're in eternity, the ages of the ages that will never end. Either an eternal glory to sing or an eternal gloom to weep and look back and say, you remember the stout gospel hall? Remember all the meetings we went to Sunday night after Sunday night? You remember Dad's prayers in the little bedroom? You remember the mother that rocked me to sleep with the songs of Zion? You remember all the privileges? Yet here I am, under the wrath of God.

Friend, tonight stop. We call upon you. We plead with you.

Don't miss Christ. This night. Don't turn it off.

Don't close your ears, but bend your will and surrender and step out of faith in the man that died at Calvary whose blood was shed freely upon that cross. Who for? All I can say, it was for me. Yes, all for me.

May God grant tonight that someone will trust the Savior while we pray. Man, tonight is time you were saved. We are heading back to Nova Scotia.

I wonder when we head back, how many we will meet from here on the other side in the glory. I wonder how many will miss heaven, be lost eternally, come to Christ tonight, shall we pray. Father, we bow in Thy presence.

We thank Thee for hearing of testimonies. We can only say to God be the glory, great things He hath done. We think of the man called Oliver that come through here in early days.

We think of the results of his preaching and then others who joined. Men, some are with us tonight in this audience who preached with them. They saw souls saved.

And right to the very present moment, we thank Thee for souls that have been saved here and also in Wisconsin. And here we are this night, this Saturday night, a large number present. Some out of Christ without a Savior.

Oh God, grant them I take in the truth of what we have heard from our brother David. Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. He was buried and He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.

Grant that the absolute liberty that's found in the blood of Christ may be applied to some soul tonight. Remember the words long ago, when I see the blood, I will pass over you. We trust that someone tonight will be humble enough, small enough, taking their place as sinner and trust the sinner's Savior.

We thank Thee He saves and for eternity. This man receiveth sinners and eateth with them. Help us with a concluding hymn.

Lord grant, visit us in Thy mercy and in Thy grace and save for eternity. To Thee we'll give all the glory in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
