Amen. Now, ladies, we love you very much, and you are our guests here at this convention. Please give the men an opportunity when it comes to the expression of the things of the Holy Spirit.

Not that we are cutting off the ladies, but we do have men that have the gifts of the Holy Spirit and that operate in their lives, and so give us a chance. We love you, but please give us a chance. All right, starting with Ralph Marinacci with the Word of God.

Independence Day, 1970. Praise God. And it behooves we as Christians... Man, I'll tell you, this PA system.

I could really go without a PA system. But we're going to read from the 20th Psalm, and I believe it strikes a note of Independence Day from the 5th verse. We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners, and, Lord, fulfill all thy petitions.

Now, I know that the Lord saveth his anointed. He will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. Listen to this wonderful verse.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. They are brought down and fallen, but we are risen and stand upright. Save, Lord, let the King hear us when we call.

Bow your heads, please. Kind Father, we thank you that we can be in this room this morning and feel your presence. And, O God, we would be reminded of those who came upon our shore so many years ago and brought your son, Jesus, with them.

Lord, this great nation was founded upon the word, and we pray, O God, as we go into these trying times, somehow, someway, O Lord, that you would instill in the hearts of your people the need for Jesus. Now, Lord, this morning as we go into this service, may you give us souls. Anyone, O Lord, that comes into this room this morning that has not known this great salvation that started at the very foot of the cross, we pray, O God, that this would be the morning that one of these testimonies, O Lord, would just make them, and drive them to their knees.

Now, Lord, bless those who will be speaking. Bless those, O God, that will be ministering in the soul. For yes, dear Lord, oh, bless your sweet name.

And, O God, we thank you. We thank you for your presence. Amen.

I thank you that you have the grace of the Father. I thank you that you have the grace of the Holy Spirit. Lord, I thank you, Father.

You know where they are, and thou art right there. In the name of every other name we pray, in Jesus' name. Touch them.

Heal them, Lord, right now. Save them. Grant that I will be done in every life, right now, in Jesus' wonderful name.

Lord, move on this convention this morning. Make it a climactic day. Oh, hallelujah.

Hallelujah. How many people have met at least ten new people during this convention? At least ten. How many? All right.

How many are at a table where you don't know someone at that table yet? You don't know someone at this table? How about... You're not friendly? All right, just for the next couple of minutes, will you just become friendly, everybody? So you know who you're sitting with? Will you do that? And then you can just sit down. All right. All right, you're enjoying yourself too much.

Sit down. How many of you had a good time this week? Say, praise the Lord. Seems to be quite universal.

May I just draw your attention just to a... Just a couple of things here. There are some records downstairs. There's the Synecdoche records.

There are the... Shakerian story records. And there's the Son of Shakerian, the trumpet record. Then we have the... Claire Hutchins, who's been leading in some of the singing here.

We have his record. There are a number of others. And then just to draw attention to voices of the military, these are a special 50 cents each or two for a dollar.

That's a special. Today we're... it's a holiday outside, but in the hotel it's not a holiday. And so take a group of these home.

You may know of someone who's in the service that you'd like to send a copy. Then we have the Shakerian story. Now, you may have purchased the Shakerian story, but you may have not... you don't have a copy at home to give out to a neighbor or someone who's interested to know how this fellowship began.

And this is a wonderful way to just present this book. And they have special deals downstairs. It's like closeout prices, so check with them.

Then God's Plowman, a story of Henry Krauss. And then today is Independence Day, and so here's a book by Derrick Prince, Praying for the Government. And that's available downstairs at the book table.

That's in the Continental Room. And then by John Osteen, who will be speaking at the New York Convention in November, The Quickening Generation. There's a number of his books.

Now, how many enjoyed Velma Gardner's little... just a little talk last night on faith, you know, and then you... it was good, right? Now, he forgot that some years ago he just shared just one of the principles of this very interesting booklet called The World's Meanest Thief, a sermon that has brought spiritual and financial blessings to thousands. Now, I don't know how many copies. There aren't too many left.

And this is an inexpensive booklet, and they have a few of them downstairs. And then we have quite a number of medical doctors that have attended this convention, and these are the Full Gospel Businessmen's own booklet, Physicians Examine the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Then we have, for those that have not had... or those who have some friends or relatives who have emotional ills, here's an ideal book by Dr. Goldset, written about emotional ills and the Christian.

Now, we had about 500 of Prison to Praise by Colonel Carruthers. We've got, oh, maybe 20 left, so I'll just move down quickly. It was just released at this convention.

And Dr. Jarman, who for about 50 years preached everything but Jesus, his book downstairs, The Grace and the Glory of God. And The Spirit Made Me Go by David Duplessis. And here's a book by Dr. Freeman, What is the Power Behind ESP, Hypnosis, Ouija Boards, and Whatnot.

Frances Robinson was telling me one of the men, a stranger that came into the chapter in Washington, bought a book. After he finished reading it, he went home, burned the astrology books, he burned the Ouija boards, he burned the clairvoyants. No, he didn't burn them.

He burned all that stuff that had to do with it. And he said he had great victory. Now, the bonus downstairs is Bob Mumford, the Psalm for Living.

When you buy a couple of dollars worth, they're going to give you that free. It's on the 23rd Psalm. And so please take advantage of the book table, the records, it's a help.

Brother Shekarian, our international president, says he does not want to carry any back with him. He feels strong and everything, but he doesn't want to take any back. So help him out, all right? Downstairs in the Continental Room.

Right in here. For the TV camera, all right? This morning, just so that you can relax, we're conscious of the time that the ladies want to change into their banquet dresses. And so we are going to use our chapter offices, rather just the presidents of the chapters, because we have so many offices here.

Chapter presidents, we'd like you to begin lining up, coming right up here, just like as we go on radio. You see, we have just a few minutes of testimony. And when you come up here, presidents, please start coming up now.

Give us your name as you come before the podium, the city you're from, the chapter you represent, and your occupation. You know how many notes we get up here, and then somebody has just reduced their records to $4, all right? Go downstairs, by the time you get down, maybe three, I don't know. See what happens.

So chapter presidents, please start lining up. And we have found that when the chapter presidents give their reports, yesterday afternoon, they began giving their reports, and it was just wonderful what God is doing to these gentlemen who's in charge of our chapters, our chapter coordinator, Gene Zimmerman. Gene, he's been busy here this morning getting things ready.

Where are you, Gene? Come on up here. He's been working in the, you know, some of our men just work in the background, and you don't know really what they're doing, but they're doing something. And Gene has been very faithfully keeping you up to date of what is happening.

And then the chapter presidents, please start coming up on the platform, lining up, and we can get moving right on this. Now, we're scheduled to close here at 11 o'clock, so there'll be plenty of time to get ready for the banquet, so everybody just relax. We're conscious of what is happening.

All right, Gene Zimmerman. Thank you, Dan. We actually have 341 chapter presidents.

Many of your chapters in your local area may be what we call a pending chapter, the fact that they're in full swing, but they've never applied for their official charter. If you're in that position, we'd like for you to get in contact either with your nearest international director or with my office, that we can get you chartered and that you can have a chapter started in their own particular town. It doesn't take much effort for you to get at least four other men together.

All we need is five men that'll pay up their memberships, and we can get a chapter started and you can start holding meetings in your own area. And I believe this convention has been a highlight in the many conventions that I've attended, even being so busy that I don't want to look forward to hearing many of the reports of what has happened to people. We want you chapter officers to send your testimonies in that we can get them in The Voice magazine.

Send in the pictures of your meetings that we can get you publicized in The Voice. And then, as this convention started, I thought the theme was truly letter to the Lord. And I believe that the full gospel of businessmen is very significant of one fact.

When little men begin to cast long shadows, it's a sure sign the sun's going down. I think we have a lot of men that have begun to cast large spiritual shadows across this United States. And that means that soon the coming of the Lord is at hand.

I hope that this convention and in your various chapters will prepare men and women that they, too, might know Jesus Christ as Lord. My name is Hort Elliott. I'm glad to say I'm president of the National Tennessee Chapter.

And I think the last few years that I've served as president of our chapter have been the greatest years of my life. I've seen more things happen and made me be a great believer. Our chapter, Israel, represented this convention.

I might say we have sponsored five regional conventions. We have our sixth one scheduled. Brother Dean was going to be with us.

And we're looking forward to a great time. I'm a manufacturer sales representative. For 30 years, I was in the manufacturing business.

And I decided I wanted to take things a little easier and get in the sales field, which the Lord has blessed my efforts. And I thank Him very much. I'm Claude McCulley, business retired.

These three years, I've done nothing but go take care of the Lord's work. And our chapter is growing. We have up to 500.

And we're really being blessed. And we will have, in September the 2nd to the 5th, a regional meeting there. Everyone's invited.

And our folder is the reddest thing here. And we want our meeting to be covered with the blood. So you come, and we'll continue this.

We're having a regional convention in September, September 9 through 12. Catherine Coombe is going to be one of our special guests. This week, the Lord has touched me and healed my body.

I came here with a three-grain thyroid tablet in my briefcase for every day. I had a very low heart beat, about 50, a little bit better. And I had so many other problems that it's almost innumerable to talk about.

But my heart has been healed. My liver has been healed. My thyroid gland has been healed.

My leg has been lengthened. That's when I like my leg full. Jesus healed me completely.

And furthermore, God has given me strength to carry on my chapter. We have four meetings a month. We have the greatest men in Dallas.

Twenty-two of us are here. Twenty-two of our people or more are from Dallas at this convention. And we're inviting each of you chapters to support us that way in our regional convention.

I'm Auburn Keeter from Harrison, Arkansas, the chapter president there. The Lord has been with us in a precious way. It's only about a year and a half old.

But God has been working in our midst. I'm in the retail furniture business. My name is Ronnie Spinhart from Oakland, California.

We're in the bakery business in Oakland, the Oakland chapter. We started up two years ago again after the chapter had been dormant for a while. And the Lord has really blessed us and met our needs in Oakland.

We're very happy to be here. My name is Lou Glickert from the Mid-Hudson chapter in Poughkeepsie, New York. Now that's about 75 miles north of New York City.

I'm so happy that seven years ago I was one of those sleeping Pentecostals that was awakened at the Washington Regional Convention. God has been real great and real good. And it's such a wonderful joy to see how he is working among our denominational friends in our area.

Praise the holy name of the Lord. My name is Wesley Ropp. I'm from Bradenton, Sarasota, Florida.

Don't ever be afraid to come to Florida in summertime because it's never been 100 degrees there since I've been there 14 years. My first convention I went to in Miami in 1961. I walked into that great Americana hotel with its elaborate furnishings.

I said, my God, how could these people be Christians? I was brought up Mennonite. I thought she either had to be poor or look poor. But due to the full gospel business, man, I've gone into business the last four years.

I manufacture mobile homes. I sell travel trailers and so forth. And in the words of one of the hippies, over 100 hippies, they've been saved and spirit-filled in Sarasota.

And in the words of the hippies, they said, I believe this thing is reaching epidemic proportions. Praise the Lord, everybody. I'm Jay Smith from M4U, chapter president there.

I'm a railroad engineer in the natural world. God is wonderfully blessed in our chapter there. And it's been a great pleasure to work with all these fine brethren here in the full gospel business.

I'm Otis Tisdrop from Jackson, Mississippi. The Lord has really begun to move and we're so thankful for it. I was sitting last night looking out over the fangs and seeing and hearing and it just seemed impossible that God could bring such a group of people together with such a love.

It thrills my heart to see what God is doing. It took the full gospel business fellowship to fill a Pentecostal with a baptism of the Holy Spirit. I've been in Pentecost a long time but I never had the baptism of the Holy Spirit until I went to a Pentecostal, I mean to a full gospel business fellowship.

So I'm the president of the Jackson chapter. I have two restaurants there and I serve sanctified food because it's dedicated to the Lord. And some of the talk is out among some of the people says if you'll come up there and eat some of those sanctified sandwiches you'll be filled with the Holy Spirit.

And the Lord is really blessed and I'm so thankful that I can be a part of this great organization. Praise the Lord. My name is Warren Brenning.

I'm a fourth contractor working amongst those beautiful tall cool trees in the state of Washington. And during this convention I've been as close as heaven I think I've ever been. God has healed my children, touched my angel wife, and even touched my wonderful mother-in-law.

Praise God. I'm president I'm president of the chairless chapter in southwest Washington and I know whom I'm believing and I am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Praise the Lord.

My brother Al is going to introduce the next chapter officer, but before he does I'd like the wives of the gentlemen who have been up here, just the wives of the chapter presidents to just stand up. We'd like to recognize you. Wives? Come on, don't be ashamed of your husbands.

Come on, stand up. Let's just give them recognition. You know, we were in the middle of We know it's very important when the wives are behind you because there's many times you're traveling, you're not home where they think you should be and you're going and wives are a very important part of this fellowship and women are important parts.

You can't be a member but like brother I was going to introduce the next They better give it. That's right. Let's give all the women a hand this morning.

What do you think? The reason I'd like to introduce the next chapter president to you is he's become a very dear friend of mine but he's been a former senator from the state of North Carolina and when Jesus got a hold of him he made a new man out of him and he's also been one of the men that's been responsible for the voices of the military. At the Washington Convention he made quite a large donation. I know he don't like to let people know what he does, you know, but we thank God for men like brother Seth Hollowell from Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Thank you brother Al. I feel like that one of the people that worked with me one time said he's already said it all and I don't know what I can say but I love Jesus and I love brother Al and I love this fellowship and if it gets much gooder I don't know where I'll stop at. Praise the Lord.

My name is Beth Askett from Pammerston, Ontario, Canada. I'm president of the Midwestern Ontario chapter. There's no city there but an area of small towns and the people come out very well.

We had our fifth anniversary in March with Don Basham from Florida and we had about 12 receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and then some that went to the prayer room that night, it came forth a few days or a week later and they've entered right into gifts of the Spirit and rejoicing and it's just given us a new thrust and the next meeting we had the largest attendance so far that we've had in this five years. I work on the railway as an engineer with the Canadian National Railway. My name is William Abercrombie, I'm from Birmingham, Alabama, and the Lord is moving down there.

Last Friday night in our meeting the brother mentioned Brother Don Basham who was our speaker. We had about 200 in attendance and we had 40 to receive the baptism of the Spirit. So if you don't believe that God is moving in Alabama, why come down and see.

We had people from eight different cities in our meetings last Friday night and several wanting us to come and get chapters started. Many of you have seen the brochure of the meeting in Alabama in October 23rd to 25th. We have what we think is a unique set up of speakers and we have a spiritual ecumenical feast.

We have all the main lines of religion represented. Dr. Derrick Clinch is going to be one of our speakers. Kevin Rannigan is going to be our banquet speaker.

And a new one whose name is Paul Tain, a Hebrew evangelist from Australia, is going to be speaking at our breakfast meeting on Saturday morning. So you have a real treat in store. We invite you to come.

If all of you came, I don't know where we would be able to put you. But do come and be with us if you can. And we're looking for great things to happen down there.

I've been praying and asking the Lord to use me and to lead me. He's promised to give us more chapters and I believe by this time next year we'll have at least 10 chapters in the state of Alabama. May the Lord bless you.

My name is Bob Thompson from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. And I don't believe they made these pulpits for people like me. And need a soapbox, I guess.

Actually, our chapter was started about a year ago by Mr. Arne Kittleson, who really should take the credit for this chapter. I've been Lord to use me and to lead me. And I believe by this time 10 chapters in the state of Alabama.

the state of And I believe have at least 10 chapters And I believe I know that when I'm not in the spirit, I'm not this way, I can assure you. So thank God that there is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Lord really impressed upon me that we're missing preaching the whole gospel.

We just preach salvation. This is a new covenant gospel and the Lord has shown me that this includes the baptism of the Holy Spirit. So I just thank the Lord.

He's blessing our chapter and we're up to 125 now. And I just believe by this fall, we're going to be to 300. And we've got about 30,000 university students.

So just thank you for being here and God bless you. What church background? Well, I was unsaved in the Baptist church until I was 21 and led the Lord in the Navy by a boy named Steve Picorus, who was also unsaved, a gang slider, in New York. And since that time, I well, I'm in the Presbyterian Church now.

Glory. I'm Bill Norwood from Kansas City. I feel possibly that I'm a little more privileged than most of the Presidents up here in that not knowing a thing about the FBGFMI.

I went into the Denver chapter one time and the first man that met me was Demas Sicarian. Met me at the top of the escalator. He said, first thing he said to me when I told him I was from Kansas City, he said, well Brother Krause and I have been wondering when we were going to get a chapter started in Kansas City.

And that's all he said. And I took it later that he meant you're going to be the man that'll do it, and I did. We've been going about eight or nine years.

We're a little different in Kansas City than most chapters in that we have five officers. That's against the bylaws, Brother Sicarian. But we have a President, Vice President, Secretary and Chairman of our Board, and his name is Jesus Christ.

My name is Blair Sanford, and I'm representing the Hartford chapter in Hartford, Connecticut. And Brother Jack Barton, I bring greetings from Brother Jack Barton, who all many of you know, and I have a big shoes to fill. Most of all in my life, I love Jesus Christ with all my heart, and I praise the Lord God that Jesus saved a little teeny spot in his heart for me.

And I love Jesus so much, and I pray God that he would pour more of his love in my heart with the great compassion that Jesus had for me that I have had for all you wonderful people. I'm in the donut business for 23 years, and I make spirit-filled donuts, and praise the Lord for this Jesus. My name is Dave Trenum, and I'm from Indianapolis, Indiana.

I've seen a lot of faces, and a lot of faces have seen mine, and every time they see me, they begin to look at my tag again because they want to see where I've moved to. It's been my privilege to serve in four chapters. I'm presently the chapter president of Indianapolis, Indiana.

I'm glad for my faith in Jesus Christ. A day when our faith is being tried, I'm glad that my roots are growing deeper. I love Jesus Christ this morning.

I want to tell you why I have such deep faith in Jesus Christ. In 1963, I was in the Ohio area, and Robert Tom, many of you know him, prophesied over me that I would go to Kenya someday, but it would be as a businessman, it wouldn't be as a missionary. And I was very busy in business, and I thought, well, that's good, and I do believe in pleasing God, and I thought, I didn't forget it, but I put it in a drawer, and I kept it.

As business progressed, we moved to the East Coast, and they're still active in full gospel businessmen. Wheels reversed in business, and I found myself completely out of business, completely broke. And I believe it was in 67, when you were having the convention in San Diego.

And I found brother Hawthorne, and that was the day that, you know, they were auctioning off my farms and all my equipment, and it was a very lonely day for me, see. And I thought, God, why in the world did this happen to me after I've worked and worked? I couldn't quite understand it, but it wasn't really up to me to understand, you see. But, oh, my faith in Jesus Christ.

As I walked alone, and I really wasn't alone, God was with me. And as I waited there on the Lord, He came to me, and I looked all around, you know, New York, Texas. I wanted some place to go.

You know, as any businessman, you get burning on both ends of the stick, and you can't sit still. And what made it worse, I didn't have anything to do anything with, see, and I was burning on both ends of the stick. But, you know, God was molding me.

And as I waited on Him, offers came from the various parts of the United States, companies that wanted me to go to work for them, and I couldn't accept it. They said, you're crazy. And sometimes I wondered if I wasn't, you know.

I could have been a success immediately as far as finance was concerned, going to work for other companies. But then God impressed us to visit Indianapolis. Now, I had been to Indianapolis before, several years before, and it looked the city over as far as business was concerned, and I didn't see anything there.

And so I marked it off. But I went back to Indianapolis, and lo and behold, we had no plans of moving there, but on my way back through, I stopped by my home where my mom lives, and I just told her we were proud of that, three days, that we were going back to the East Coast and stay another six months, and then we'd see what the Lord had for us. So I go over to Indianapolis for three days, and the Lord and I stopped by on my way back, and I said, guess what? I said, what? I said, we're moving to Indianapolis.

Oh, she said, where did you get a job? I said, well, I hadn't even thought of it. I didn't even get a job. But I felt it in my bones.

Do you ever feel anything in your bones? Well, I felt this in my bones as I drove around the beltway of Indianapolis. We went back, and within three months, we were living in Indianapolis. The second day that I was there, I was out looking around, and God led me into a contract.

Didn't have any equipment. That didn't matter at the time. Right at that time, I didn't need any equipment.

All I needed was a job. God gave me a job, and then one day, I was standing in church one Sunday morning with my hands raised up, worshiping God. A man walked up and tapped me on the shoulder and says, hey, sis, I don't know what your need is, but he said, whatever it is, he said, if you'll talk to me about it, he said, if I can help you, I will.

He said, if I can't, I'll tell you I can't. I thought, well, Lord, this is pretty good. My need was finance, you see, because the contract was already in the making.

The man said to me, he said, when are you going to move your equipment in, you know? Ordinarily, I mean, you go to work for a large corporation. Any of you businessmen know this, and you've been working in another area, they check you out. You know, they just don't bring you across to the United States and put you to work.

He said, when are you going to move your equipment in? I said, well, don't worry about the equipment. I said, when the weather dries up, I said, we'll be ready to go to work. The day that we were ready to go to work, a brand new piece of equipment was delivered on the job.

This man that tapped me on the shoulder helped to make this possible. And then I wondered, you know, our paths just crossed for a moment. And this really worried me.

Because I went to my pastor and I said, hey, I've got a question I want to ask you. I said, why is it that our paths crossed and just for a short time and then men work out of your life? My pastor said, that's not for you to know. He said, leave that to God.

You see? So I left it to God. Now, just before I came to this convention, I called this man that had made it possible. And was talking to him.

He said, Davey said, I've got to go to a convention in New York City. So there were some things I had to take care of for him. And he said, I'll see you when I get back.

And I said, fine. He said, now, he said, I'm going to Africa as a missionary. He's done all of his businesses and he's going, him and his wife and family are going as missionaries.

So I came up to the convention. And then yesterday, brother was it Sigler? Brother Sigler. I'd never met the man before.

Didn't know him. And as we began to talk, I'm sitting back over in there and I said, hey, this man just said he had to go to New York for a convention. And I said, he's from Africa.

And I said, well, he just went to New York for a convention yesterday afternoon. He was supposed to be there. I said, they must be connected in some way, you see.

Well, what makes this so important is that Ray's wife, right after our paths had crossed and before they started, Ray's wife had wrote a letter to us and she said this. She said that she saw a big field of flowers. Now, as a lot of you know, I formerly was connected and did a large work in landscaping.

And she said she saw this big field of flowers. And she said out of the big field of flowers, she began to see black faces. And so they just, you know, it was up all over the place, the whole field had become full of black faces.

Well, you see, I found that one too. I put it in the drawer the same place as I did the other one. So yesterday afternoon I made my way when he left the platform and he had mentioned Brother Dodgewhite.

Well, the moment that he said Dodgewhite, see, I was familiar with the name because I'd heard this other gentleman speak of Dodgewhite. So I made my way to the back. And I introduced myself.

I said, do you know Ray Flood? He said, yes. I said, we know Ray very well. He said, in fact, that he's going to meet us at the convention.

I said, yes, I know. And then I unfolded to them. And I said, the reason why I'm so interested in this, I said, you just mentioned an airlift to East Athens.

And God has confirmed it, you see. I have both of the prophecies wrote down. Now, I wondered for a long time, you know, why everything was taking so long to fall in place in my life.

But I just want to tell you something, this much. Jesus will lead you and guide you in whatever his will is for your life. But you have to submit yourself to him.

I am president of the National New Hampshire chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen. Some time ago, I said to the Lord, I would like to be used in a greater dimension. Don't ever say that, folks, unless you're serious, unless you mean it.

Because the Lord takes you up for what you say and he'll put you to work. I just praise the Lord this morning that I serve a miracle working God and I'd like to share with you and praise the Lord for these marvelous world conventions because in a miraculous way, he provided the finances that I was able to go to London, England. And while there, I met a lawyer by the name of Peter Smith.

How many know Peter Smith? From Bermuda? I thought everybody. He's usually at all these conventions. And I had a chance to share with him a word of testimony while sitting in the Hilton Hotel there.

And then last year at the Washington, D.C. convention, I met him again and I just come in and I threw my arms around him and we just remembered each other in the Lord. And he said, you know, he said, the Lord has been burning my heart. He said, you know, as we talked over there in London, England, how I wish I could have a chapter where we could start a chapter down in Bermuda.

And he said, but it's been so hard to find a speaker, someone that wouldn't cost us any money because the transportation charges are so high. And I said to him, you know, brother, he said, I said to him, I said, the Lord has blessed me in my business and I have won a trip to Bermuda and I'll be coming to Bermuda this fall, all expenses paid. And he said, you're the next speaker.

He didn't give me a chance to say yes or no, but praise the Lord anyway. The first time I was ever invited to be a speaker at a chapter meeting and to open up a new chapter, this was just something that threw my soul. So as I came forward to speak to the group of the leading men on that island, churches, businessmen, doctors, lawyers, men with these degrees about a mile long, from the end of their names, and I am only just a poor high school graduate, they had me come up there to speak, and the lights in that place, you couldn't even read the scripture that you wanted to read.

So I just praise the Lord that he, as I went in prayer, I said, Lord, you understand the condition here? I can't even see the notes, I can't even read the scripture. Here I am praying for the first time, speaking to a group of people, Lord, take control, I said, just use me, speak through me, Lord, whatever you would have me to speak. I don't know why I spent that hour or so writing them notes down, I'll never figure that out.

But anyway, I got up there and through the yielded vessel, I was able to speak to those men and women that were present, there was over a hundred, I forget just how many, 125, 150, for over three quarters of an hour. The Lord blessed, people came to be prayed for, for salvation, for healing, and just as I walked up here on the platform, the Lord completed this word of testimony that I'm giving to you tonight. His brother Nelson came over to me and he said, I have heard from Peter Smith.

And he said he was so thrilled that I was able to come to the island and to be the kickoff speaker that there would be a chapter started in Bermuda. And I said, praise the Lord. I said, did he say how things were going? He said, they were going along very well.

And I said, you know what? I said, the Lord has blessed me again in my business. Through purchases, of increase of purchases, through the Monroe Shock Absorber Company, I am in the automotive business, automotive parts sales business. I have won another trip to Bermuda.

And I said, I don't know why, but the Lord must have his hand in it. And I said, I will return to that island this coming fall. I would covet your prayers that if it be God's will, somehow I will be able to return there, praising the Lord, renewing my strength in him, and sharing once again the testimony of the miraculous power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

It pays to serve the Lord. It pays to give to the Lord, because in my business, as he is blessed, just last year I was praying that the Lord would increase that percentage of allowing 50% of your income to be deductible from your taxes. But it didn't happen last year, but praise the Lord, it's this coming year.

So I had to kind of only take 30% and transfer some of it to the next year. But if you don't give to the Lord, you cannot out-give him. As Brother Gardner said, you'll just fizzle your cup to overflowing, running over.

Praise the Lord, I love him today. The desire of my heart is to serve him in a greater dimension that I may be found in his perfect will. God bless each and every one of you.

Thank you, Brother. Just before we continue, you know, these men, many of them travel, of course all of the men travel at their own expenses, many, many parts of the country, traveling to chapter meetings. I remember one time in establishing a chapter up in Connecticut, this is Earl Prickett's story, and there was a brother who said, Earl, you know, you get all these blessings, you go to this chapter meeting all the time, and we'd like to get a part of the blessing.

So Earl said, well, you know, it costs, oh, well, we'd just like to join in and get this blessing. So he said, all right, well, we're going up, we stay overnight and then we come back. So they went up there and so they come to the motel and then the parkway, and you have to divide the monies up, you see it costs this and that, and then when it finished all out there was a new chapter, and as far as the offering, anything like that, there was not much there.

So it ended up, it cost each man around $25 or $30, because you have to pay for your own meals, you know, new chapter and all this stuff. So this brother then said on the next month when Earl said, well, we'll look forward to you next month to come up again. And this brother who had been complaining that Earl was getting all the blessings said, well, I don't know about next month, you know, but these men put out dollars, they traveled.

I remember one time down in New Jersey, it was a blizzard, and just, how many meals were ordered then, Ralph? About a couple of hundred meals were ordered, and you know, you have to pay for them once you order, and I think only about ten were able to show up, and so the speaker had to contribute toward it and everything else. And this happens. I once heard someone say that the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship is the most expensive country club that you can join without the benefits of a country club.

But as far as the benefits, it's the heaven benefits, the laying up where moth and rust do not corrupt. And this is why this is such a terrific fellowship. And it was just, you know, Brother Demus, as I was listening to testimony, I have nothing against preachers.

Understand, my father was a preacher, and I have nothing against them. You have to love your parents. But it was testimonies like this that stirred my heart.

I remember in Philadelphia, Brother Demus, I was in CBMC and very active, still am, and I went up to the platform, and I was just amazed to hear this businessmen give testimonies. And this really shook me, to hear men from all walks of life give testimonies of the power of God and the vitality of Christian service. And I went up there, and I told Brother Demus, I said, well, this is all right, but, you know, I'm a CBMCer.

So Demus, you know, he's got a good way about it. He knows how to just say the right thing at the right time. He said, well, he said, you know, I was a CBMCer, too.

He said, in fact, started the Downey chapter, I think. Is that right, Demus? And he said, that's fine. And he said, well, in God's time, as God leads you, and sure enough, in God's time, this is what happens.

And you can see how men have come to Demus, and Demus just encourages. And as chapters, as directors, this is our job to encourage men. And I'd like all the chapter offices that are, you're not going to come up, but just to stand up, we'd like to recognize all the chapter offices, whether you're vice president, treasurer, secretary, whether you're on the council, just stand up, wherever you are.

Chapter, chapter, that's it. Let's just recognize them and just thank them for their work. These are the men who are really the lifeblood of the fellowship, and so we really appreciate it.

I know Brother Demus really appreciates the work of the chapters, and it's been in his heart and in mine, of course, to thank him for I've said it many times and he does. There's a note that came up and it said it would be nice if we could have the mailing address of these men who are testifying. I suggest you contact Gene Zimmerman and he can give you a complete list of all your chapter offices, and then one of these men, just remember his name and where he's from and then he'll give you the address.

At this time, very quickly, we can just receive an offering and we'll just continue. This morning, our guest speaker, in just a few minutes, will be, I feel, a man that God has raised up for this particular time. His name is Arthur Katz.

How many here know of Arthur Katz? Just put your hand up. How many are glad that he's going to speak this morning? All right. We'll receive the offering.

We're moving really on schedule. We have a number of guests that we'd like to recognize. One is a Reverend Hans Jacob Freund from the Lutheran Church of Oslo.

Where are you, sir? Just step up here and greet the people. And I think Brother Demas may have you say a word in the meeting, in the banquet meeting, but just say a greeting to our people. Well, I am the only Norwegian Lutheran minister in Norway who is baptized with the Holy Spirit.

And when I was converted, I just felt that it was something missing. And I went to a Christian leader and asked him, I'm not satisfied. And he asked me, I have some sin in your life.

I don't think so, I said. But in the Acts, it says that they lay hands on and they get the Holy Spirit. Yes, he said, that's a strange word.

It's a funny word. But later on, I have received it, and I'm glad to be. And well, in the last days, I have been known, and it has stayed in the newspaper.

Norwegian Lutheran ministers say, I speak in tongues. And some Boulevard newspaper asked some bishops about it. And one bishop was very angry and said, this minister had to go home.

But others are more kind. And I think I can feel that there is some opening in Norway about these things. And one general secretary said, I miss him in the Norwegian state church.

He said, you are welcome as an evangelist in our organization. So things may happen. And Norway is on my heart, and I wish that it couldn't be a burden in your heart.

I feel so happy here. But in some prayer meetings, I have been told that I could weep the whole time. And when I read about the Messiah, he said, I am a man with unclean lips and live among a people with unclean lips.

He identified himself with his people. And I just feel it the same way. Norway needs salvation, and they need the Holy Spirit.

Will you pray for me? Now, we, you know, we weren't fair to the Norwegians. We've been, I know, we have to say God bless the Swedish folks. Are there any other Norwegians here? Will you stand please? Where are they? All the Norwegians in the background.

All right. You're born here. Let's just recognize our Norwegians.

Simon Vicks, one of our international directors, he says, Dan, he said, you know, I've got to get back to Norway, and this is the brother that really helps me when I'm there. So, you know, let's get him on. And Brother Demus said he's been trying to get him on all week, see.

And it's good to greet these brethren that have come from the other part of the world. Let them know that they're part of our fellowship, and that though they may be a couple of thousand miles away, that they're part of us. Now, let's see, Demus wants to know if the Indonesian watchmaker, is that a watchman, or a jeweler? Are you here from Indonesia? He left.

I'm Haskell Howell, a farmer from southeast Kansas, the president of the Parsons chapter. We are about a year and a half old since we got our charter, and we worked a year before we got it. I'd like to commend those of you that have started new chapters at present.

This is something we haven't had the privilege to do, but we hope to do in the near future. We have several small chapters in our list. There's one in Coffeyville, there's one in Joplin and ours, and then Brother Smith and Emporio is the first one north of us.

We do hope we can get some more started. It's been a great privilege to be a part of this great fellowship. I came here with the idea that we would take something home with us.

I'm glad I'm not disappointed. We had the privilege to be here. I was privileged to hear Brother from Britton yesterday evening in the seminar teaching, and from Mary Prince, and he made it a new chapter in my heart that we have something that we, according to the Scriptures, must pray for, which is, first of all, our nation.

I think those of you that were in the services last night got this from Brother Jim Brown. He said, near us, and you can't sit under Derrick Prince and not realize that it is a duty that we have to pray for our nation. I'm sure that fasting will be a greater thing in my life after being under Derrick Prince yesterday evening.

We have had the privilege since I've been there to send one overseas in the New Zealand area, and This is a privilege that you chapters do have that I feel like having listening to the ones yesterday evening that spoke, or yesterday noon. We do have a privilege to put out someone in our chapter to go overseas on these airlifts. We've been greatly blessed by having sent our vice president overseas.

He came back, and I think our chapter has been a great success. We've been blessed as much by giving him a little push in that direction as anything we've done. I do want to thank the Lord for my privilege of having been here.

I hope that I can take some things home to the chapter that will cause them to grow, cause them to have a burden for lost souls and a compassion for one another. That we might pray for the nation, and I believe that it's grassroots men like myself that's out there where there's a lot of people, yet we have from 35 to 110 at each of our meetings, that really gets down in earnest that will make the difference. It's not the large amount of people, but it's those that are his chosen people that will change the times that come.

Thank you. Brother Evanston, one of our international directors. Vancouver, Washington, the biggest city on the Columbia River.

My name is Art Evanston, and I'm in the industrial supply business. About a year ago, we were very concerned about the progress of our chapter, and we got down and prayed and asked God to give us a real leading of his spirit, and he had a burden for our area. And we have seen God move in a marvelous way.

And at a recent meeting, we had 11 different denominations represented, and we've seen God move in a miraculous way. I want to give you just a little report of a chain reaction. We have a chain reaction.

In March, we were down to the San Francisco area, regional, Berkeley, California. We felt impressed to invite a man who had a terrific ministry among students on the University of California campus, Hubert Lindsay, who has a unique ministry, and in the past three years or so he's won over 1,000 students to Christ and had a very calming effect upon the problems that arose on the campus among the militants. We felt the need to have a youth emphasis night in our chapter, so we invited him to come and speak.

What we didn't know at the time was the outbreak of rioting and so forth that was going to take place on the Portland State campus. And these, the day of our meeting, a pre-strike rally had been set up on the college campus in the park blocks just outside the campus buildings. This was the first man came to town and he said, I feel like I should go out on the campus.

The strike had been set for Wednesday and we're planning to close down the school for the rest of the year. On this Monday, the pre-strike rally had been set for 12 o'clock. At 11, he went on to the campus and started speaking.

And he didn't need a loud speaker, he just had one built in. And God used him. And four or five hundred students, and this was all written up in the daily papers, four or five hundred students gathered around to hear him.

And when the militants gathered around to set up their loud speaking equipment for the 12 o'clock rally, the student says, put that stuff away, we'd rather hear Hubert. And the strike rally didn't come off. And the papers also, the papers also reported that on the Wednesday, the day the strike was scheduled, the strike of Wendell Wallace and Hubert Lindsay, there was a terrific move among the students and Campus Crusade involved and the strike just fizzled out.

Just nothing happened. This was just the thing that was ordered of God. And as a little sidelight to this, when he spoke at our chapter that night, on that Monday night, someone gave a message in tongues.

And it was one girl from Venezuela, a young girl about 16, 17, and recognized this in the Spanish language. And God spoke to her and said, this is for you. This is for you.

And she gave her heart to the Lord and was filled with the Holy Spirit that night. At our next meeting, her mother was there and told us something about this. And she was a Venezuelan lady that had come to Vancouver having married an American, had been down there on a contract job.

And she said, this is for you. And at that meeting, she came forward and she was baptized in the Holy Spirit. God just works in this way.

And I just thank him and praise him for the way that God is moving. We invite you to Portland in May of 1971, where the Portland Bill Castleman and I have the privilege of co-chairming a Portland regional convention. I thank God for this convention.

My wife has a miraculous healing of a foot that had been numb for years to the fact that she was run over by a boat a few years ago and her foot has been numb for several years. God gave her back the healing in that foot today. A couple days ago, I had a leg lengthened and it has cured an annoying back ailment I've had for years.

God is working in a wonderful way. I just thank him that I'm just a part of this fellowship. Shalom Aleichem.

Greetings in the name of my Yeshua HaMessiah. The Lord has blessed me with a chapter in the Beverly Hills, California, which is a majority Jewish community. There has not been one single meeting since the start in November last year that some Jewish people have been saved in that chapter.

Praise to his holy name. I'm so happy that I have been here in this convention. This is the second convention in my life since I came into the saving knowledge of the Lord.

The Lord has blessed me so wonderfully during these two years. I'd like to tell you that today, I have my birthday for the second year in the Lord. My brother here, Demer Shakerian, was the instrumental one that led me to the knowledge and understanding of the Holy Spirit.

Hallelujah. In our chapter in Beverly Hills, he has blessed us. He has blessed us with And we have been here for refueling.

And like an old pilot, I like to say, I like to take off again. Often, this is all a win-win business. And I know now that the Lord starts taking away the veil in front of the Jewish people.

As every one of you know, that the Jewish people is a rebellious people. You can read in the Bible that they are stiff-necked and hard-headed. And I know now that the As you know, as a medical doctor, I can tell you, the Lord knows the right type of medicine.

Hallelujah. And I'm so happy I'm here. And God bless you all.

Pray for me. Pray for the chapter. And pray for the Jewish people.

And now, in what we're praying for this fall, to come in to Jerusalem to make this statement. We're praying for the that Paul did in Greece. He was speaking about the unknown God.

And I'd like to go down there and speak about the unknown Messiah to the Jewish people. Hallelujah. And I just feel inside myself the wonderful power of the Lord.

The power of the Holy Spirit that He has given me since He baptized me in the Holy Spirit two years ago. God bless you all. Thank you.

Dr. Liederman speaks nine languages, so you can see he'd be at home anywhere in the world. Enoch Christopherson, who is head of a Far East Airlift, it's very important that our airlifts get momentum. And the only time you hear about it is in a convention of this type.

And then how can you be sent unless you're here? So we want Enoch to take a few moments to tell you about this Far East Airlift. Everywhere you go, you hear testimonies. We even heard it this morning how men were challenged as a result of going on an airlift.

And so we can never underestimate the value of an airlift. And we just pray that the Holy Spirit will impress you of its importance. Mayor Enoch Christopherson of Turlock, California, I believe America's largest turkey processor.

And Enoch's going to share what God has been doing through the Far East Airlift. It seems that Karen wants to know how Turkey goes. Thank you, Dan, for the privilege of speaking here.

I don't want to be speaking here because of Enoch Christopherson, but we're representing many people that goes on these airlifts. We're representing many souls that are won because of the airlifts. And it's because of that that we have a burden for the airlifts.

God has used everyone that goes on these trips, people that has never been able to speak publicly. When they've been back, they've just had one engagement after the other testifying of the wonders of God. God changes one for making a trip like this.

In these foreign countries, when you speak, they just pull the words out of you. Tell us how we can get this experience is what you feel when you're speaking before them. And it's really a thrill to go on an airlift.

I am sorry to tell you, though, I haven't got one single deposit for this airlift on the 16th of September. I know there is people that God wants to go on the airlift, but we do not want just a person to go. We want dedicated men that are willing to be their best for God.

We want dedicated men that are willing to do anything God wants them to do, that will be so dedicated that when they are on the airlift, thrust together with many people from various parts of the country, different personalities, that they never let the personality affect them. But their goal for winning souls is so far superior to that, that they overlook these things that would annoy otherwise. It's easy to be annoyed when you go, you get into strange lands and strange customs and strange people from what you're accustomed to.

But you know when we're dedicated, we overlook it. And that's the kind of people we need along these airlifts. We have three meetings a day, and I mean three meetings a day, and you will speak three times a day.

That's the kind of airlift we have. It's not a tour. It's not a vacation.

It's a working for Jesus Christ. It's similar... Well, I shouldn't say he made these trips, but it's not really restful, I can tell you that. But I tell you, it's the most rewarding thing that you've ever accomplished in your life.

You go on an airlift. Now, just to give you... I have to be so quick because the time is so short. But just to give you one place we went, a Methodist had built... Methodists and Presbyterians had built a mountain house there.

There were 350 received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in that place. And then they asked Wendell Wallace to come back, and two months later there were 900 that received it. In one place where the layman went, when they just opened it up by a Presbyterian, the first meeting we had there were 120 saved.

And in that meeting, I don't know how many that were healed and filled with the Holy Spirit. There was no way to tell. And we've been in places where there practically 100% gave their heart to the Lord.

In the penitentiary where all but about I think was 10 that raised their hands and stood up that wanted to accept Christ as their personal Savior. We've had meetings in open places, 150. One team went out, there were 1,000 saved in the city they went into.

And everywhere we go every team sees excitement for God. If there's anything that is exciting is when they have the privilege of going into foreign countries and telling the Word of God and how God loves them. But we must be saturated with the love of God to go.

We must have a love in our hearts that radiates out of our hearts that they may feel that we love them. To tell them you love them is not enough. But when we love them from our hearts with a love of God that comes overwhelms us, then we will see results.

Praise God. We haven't got much time left. I don't know.

This could be the last trip. I don't know when the Lord will come. But certainly it seems it's close at hand.

But I believe that if we step out and go on a trip like this you will find it's the best investment you've ever made. I've had many say, well, I can't work it out that time. I left at Thanksgiving time before Thanksgiving when we went to London.

And if anything is stupid it's stupid for a turkey man to go before Thanksgiving because that's the cream of the year. But you know when you're dealing with God, God works different than the things of the nature, the natural things. And God blesses a person that is willing to step out when it looks impossible to do it.

When you say you can't do it, you can't work it out. When you take God's plan first and then you work around your others around it, you'll find you'll be more blessed than ever before. I have never failed, seen God fail me in any time where I've taken Him first.

And I know you will not either. But if you misdo it, because you love the Lord. I thank you, Dan, for giving me this chance.

I trust that God will speak to your heart. I believe that the Holy Spirit in the Acts it says they used to come together and they used to pray. And then the Holy Spirit would speak.

And sometimes in an appeal of this type and the man is unburdening his heart, sometimes we move a little too quickly. I believe that we should just just quietly just let's bow our heads and pray and let the Holy Spirit talk to the ones who should be impressed for this trip. Enoch is right.

The door is open. Douglas MacArthur, General MacArthur said when as far as Japan was concerned, he said, please send me thousands of missionaries. And I think they only sent about 200.

What a difference there would have been in that nation had there been men ready to go. And these doors are really open to us. And I think we should just quietly just pray and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us in a still, small voice.

Heavenly Father, you know the ones that you have chosen to accompany Enoch on this trip. And perhaps the finances aren't there. The time isn't there.

But your Holy Spirit is impressing them even at this moment for them to do something. And we pray, even as we quietly wait upon you, that you'll speak to their hearts, move them toward Enoch and this trip according to thy will and purpose. And as a result, of even coming together at this convention, we know hundreds and literally thousands of lives will be changed and challenged by Jesus Christ.

And we thank you for your love that you give us a chance to work while it is yet day. Amen. Please turn the tape over.

Thank you. And the international knows. But I tell you, this man is one of the most dedicated men that I have ever met.

And you know for the folk out in radio audits that are listening, many of our people are listening in the East Coast. And I got letters and telegrams from our chapter leaders and officers and the family members and members of the people that attend the meeting that keep these broadcasts going. It says, we couldn't be in Chicago, but praise God, we're enjoying the convention.

Amen. And they could write immediately to the international office, any of you folks who are listening, and we can put you in touch with any Christian officer. God should lay some of our men out in the East Coast or wherever they may be for this air letter.

Give us your name. George Gray from Louisville, Kentucky. You know, earlier in the morning, I think I would have rushed and hurried and would have tried to have been perhaps first in this line, but of real recent, the Lord has been giving unto me of His mind about humbling myself before the Lord and preferring others, and I would prefer this morning really to hear others.

Remember how I got saved on a train at midnight belonging to the, I thought, the only church that you could make heaven, and the Lord saved me that night, and I went home the next day and broke the last bottle of whiskey, and by the grace of God, I told the last lie and cursed for the last time and gathered up all the tools that I had stolen and many other items and carried them back, and I stayed on my face for 18 months in a church that didn't even have an altar every Friday night, prayed many Friday nights through. I've seen the Saturday morning sun come up many times, and the Lord met me in a Pentecostal church across the river one night when a prophecy came and there had been 10 million people in that building that night. I knew that God was speaking to me for the very first time, and that prophecy said, Yea, I say unto thee, my son, that I, the Lord thy God, have led thee into this place that thou mightest hear and that thou mightest listen.

I say, I've seen the longing of thy spirit after my own spirit, and if thou will humble thyself and lean in the corner of my vineyard, I'll give unto thee my holy ghost power, and thou shalt blow loud and long, and many shall be turned from darkness undelayed if thou will humble thyself before the Lord thy God. And I want to say I represent the finest group of people I believe in all the world in the Louisville chapter, and we have a goodly number here today, a goodly representation. We have 80 members.

We thought that we'd be the first to have 100, but I rejoice in my heart that Denver's made it, and by the end of July, we'll have over 100 members. We have a place that seats 2,000 people that God gave to us in a prayer. We have the Teamsters Union Hall.

No one had ever been allowed to rent or to borrow that place before we got down on our knees and asked God for it, and they let us have it free of charge. Amen. We have several hundred in our monthly meetings, and this chapter sponsored me on the Scandinavian Airlift.

I couldn't afford to make it. I'm just the supervisor of the International Harvester Company, and they sponsored me, but just in a one-minute testimony, I want to tell you how it was possible that God made it. This will encourage you.

God has an eternal law of what you sow, you reap. As you give, you can only expect to receive. A preacher that I saw on this convention that came through our town from Texas didn't have a wristwatch, and I only had one, and I didn't give this watch so that I might tell you about it.

I never expected to use it as a testimony, but I took my wristwatch off and gave it to this preacher that didn't have a watch, and I've been doing Reformatory Council work for about 12 years, and I've bought three or four maybe five-dollar used wristwatches to give it to an inmate on occasions, but I gave the only watch that I had to this minister, and a little while later, a young fellow got saved out where we work that didn't have a Bible, and I heard about it, and I went to him, and I said, I want to give you a Bible. As I walked away from that machine, someone said tears rolled down his cheeks because he was wondering how he could get a Bible, and as I thought about how I'd give him a Bible, I had three or four, and I was thinking about the one I thought the least of and used the least and the one I missed the least, and I started to give him that Bible, and God said, no, that's not, that's your best Bible, and I gave him the Bible I thought the most of, and in just a few days, I was sponsored, and people started coming and giving me money. Catholics would reach, would shake hands with me and leave money in my hands.

One of the men in my Sunday school class drove all night and worked with his truck and earned $100 and came to my house and said, God wants me to give it to you, and I had to say, people, I don't need any more money. I've got enough. Just keep it because I knew I'd have to give it back if I had more than I needed.

So you've got to give God something to work with, and he'll multiply it and give it back to you in good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and run it over. Amen. Just before our speaker for the morning comes forward, at the youth banquet, we give out hundreds of tickets free for young people, and our young people have been working in Old Town during the week and giving out tickets, witnessing, giving out Bibles, New Testaments, literature, and we still have some tickets available for the youth, free of charge, to come in to the youth banquet where the speaker of this morning will be speaking this afternoon, Arthur Katz.

And so please see Henry Carlson or those at the registration desk down in the Continental Room if you want to go out for an hour or so and distribute tickets in around the hotel, in around the surrounding area to invite young people. And we know that the results, when young people come into this kind of a meeting, that the Spirit of God reaches them because the Lord just communicates with them. In September, a book entitled Ben Israel by Arthur Katz will be published.

It's a story of the speaker this morning, a man who searched to find himself and find why he was alive. It's a modern pilgrim's progress. Arthur Katz is a Spirit-filled believer.

He found his Messiah in Jerusalem after a lifelong search for truth, a former Marxist, atheist, and left-winger. He's a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. He was a high school teacher.

His master's degree was in history, majored in history. He understands this now generation. He's involved in challenging the Christian community to know the Messiah.

Recently, in this particular state, in Illinois, I don't know if he'll be sharing it in his talk this morning, but he was at the university there meeting with students. He had a great and mighty move of God on that campus. It's our pleasure to introduce Arthur Katz, who is now directing evangelism in New York City for the American Board of Missions to the Jews, a great organization that has done great work to reach Jewish people with the message of the Messiah.

God bless you, Arthur Katz, as you share what God has put upon your heart. Let's welcome Arthur Katz. applause Would you stand with me, please, as we read out of the Word of God, 31st chapter of Jeremiah, starting with the 31st verse.

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, which my covenant they break, although I was a husband unto them, saith the Lord, but this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel. After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts and write it in their hearts and will be their God, and they shall be my people, and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for they shall all know me from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord, for I will forgive their iniquity and I will remember their sin no more. Precious Holy God, bless us now by thy great Spirit, Lord, have thy perfect way with thy people.

Through thy servant, purge our lips, O God, and fashion the words that you would have spoken and deeply touch thy people. Have thy way now, Lord. Bless thy name and praise thee and glorify thee, Jesus, because we ask it in thy great name.

Praise God. Please be seated. I think if I had to find a word to express my single great burden as a Jewish man, it's that my people might know God, that the knowledge of God might go forth over the face of the earth.

As a former academician, high school teacher, university graduate, and laboring 7 years with students for knowledge, I know that there's knowledge in knowledge. There's a deep kind of knowing of God which can save the world. Unless we know God in spirit and in truth, we perish.

They shall all know me from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord. Well, I staggered for 34, 35 years without knowing God. The first conviction of my young adolescent life as a Jewish young man growing up in New York City was that God was the most preposterous fiction that had ever been foisted upon a gullible mankind.

And I felt really emancipated that my life was to be freed at so early an age from notions as tired and as worn as that. I was an obedient Jewish boy in a certain sense and went to Hebrew school daily and I was prepared for a single ceremony at the age of 13 to oblige my mother that she might discharge her sense of Jewish obligation. But I saw no evidence for the living God anywhere.

My attitude toward religion, both Jewish and Gentile, was a pox on both your houses. I was a restless, seeking, hungry man. I could already sense, even before I had words to express it, that somehow the world had betrayed some deep design for our life, that we were not truly human, that we were just batting at the air and going through all kinds of mechanical motions, just only too happy to feed our faces and to compromise and merely sustain ourselves on a physical level, but that that was not life.

I didn't know what life was, but I knew that somehow it had to be abundant. It had to be deep. It had to be something total.

And I began a career as a high school dropout at the age of 16, seeking for life and that more abundantly. The name Jesus was among the most alien names that I knew. It was a curse word.

It was something that I had delegated only to the Gentiles. It had nothing to do with us as Jews. I knew of Jewish people who had crossed the street rather than let the shadow of the cross from a church fall upon them.

They considered it a curse. And indeed, that's what the name Christianity and Christ and the cross has meant to Jewish people for 1900 years. It's been a curse of oppression, exploitation, forced conversions, exile, pillage, rape, looting, and death.

How is God going to reach a people who've been steeped in that kind of tragic history and let them to know that their Messiah has come and in Him is life? It takes a miracle. And that miracle was wrought in my life six years ago when I was brought first to a place of death. I don't know why, but the word death is just ringing in my heart this morning.

Death, death, death. And I may be misquoting the Scripture, but I know that there's a place in there where Paul speaks of death working in me that life might be worked in you. I came to God as an act of death, and every step in my life in God since has been from death unto life.

Death working in me that life might go forth into the world. And Gentile Christian people occasionally come to me and say, Art, what is it about you Jewish believers? You're so zealous. You're so completely caught up in the things of God.

Every Jew I know is either in full-time service or among the most active people in their congregations. What is it about you Jews? I think one thing is that we're Jews. Very peculiar people, and a people who are out of joint and out of place in the world.

And there's no one who knows that better than Jews who have succeeded at the world's game and are laden with honors of every description, and no one has to tell them that inside they're convinced that they're hollow men. We've won every award that the world has in science, in culture, in music, in literature, and we know that we're empty men, and we're going to know it in this generation with such severity and such distress that our collective cry is going to go up before God. In a certain sense, my sensibilities are jarred and pained by the great travail and affliction that's coming upon the world and that I've had occasion to see even in Chicago.

But on the other hand, I rejoice because I know that it's death which worketh life. And the same thing which took place in my life, and it's the only reason why my testimony is worth hearing, because it's a perfect reflection of how a modern man, and Jews, by the way, are modern men par excellence. They have created the modern man.

They've created the modern world. They've given this world its tone, its content, its ideologies, its attitudes, its culture, and its lifestyle. All you have to do is think of the great terminal thinkers in the 20th century, and you come up with names like Karl Marx and Sigrund Freud.

And if you want to bring it right up to date, just throw in Jerry Rubin and A.B. Hoffman, and you've got Jewish men who are molders and shakers of the world and of cities. It was just a couple of months ago when the four students were killed at Kent State that I was here at the University of Illinois in Chicago. I'd just come from the University of Illinois at Urbana, where a curfew was called, and there were the troops and the Jeeps, and it was like a wartime atmosphere.

I could hardly believe that this was happening in an American city. Our meetings had to be rescheduled because of the curfew and the strange atmosphere in which things were happening. Then we came to Chicago, where a noon meeting had been called at the Chicago campus of the University of Illinois, and that day they closed the campus for fear of violence and destruction.

So in a sense, our right to the amphitheater around which this whole university faculty was denied us, and the strike committee had itself circulated leaflets that day announcing that they were going to have a rally at that same amphitheater at noon. So there's a conflict. And we sought out the strike committee, and although the school was closed, I don't know how this happens, a building had been opened to them, the architecture building, and they were using the basement as their headquarters, and I walked into an atmosphere that I could hardly believe.

It was like a scene out of Franz Kafka or some existentialist writer or some way-out TV script. And there were these students in every state of dress and undress stripped to the waist with their hair strewn over their faces and Indian-type bands around their foreheads and arms. Some were wearing T-shirts with the letters MEDIC stamped out carrying first-aid kits.

It was a wartime atmosphere, and it was an intoxicating, exuberant spirit that was possessing these young people that they themselves knew that they had power and that they had closed down this campus, they could well close down the establishment, they could well close down the world. I tell you, that's a heady and intoxicating spirit, and you're not ready to handle such a spirit at the age of 18, 19, or 20. And we told them that we had the legal right of that amphitheater, but we understood that the school was closed, so all that we would desire of them is if they would give us 5 to 10 minutes on their program.

They hardly knew what we represented, but they put us down as speaker. Our cats. And I had to sit for 2 hours in the broiling sun listening to speeches of the kind which I myself was making 7 and 8 years ago as a Marxist left-winger and radical, and I tell you, it was a crushing bore.

It was so utterly inane. It was so bereft of life. It was so ceremonial.

And I was struck, as I had never been struck before, that what this radical cause is for these young people is a substitute religion. But religion in its worst form. And if you've sat in churches and heard ceremonial talking, and just maybe in parenthesis, if you've sat at full gospel meetings and heard ceremonial talking, and there are other places where this goes on because the pure is always commingled with the other, you know what a tremendous weight that is on our spirit.

It's only the spirit which bringeth life. And I would see these guys make speeches one after another full of slogans, full of smart, clever things, full of heavy phrases of destroying the destroyers and down with the imperialists and everyone exulting in their slogans. And finally, after two hours of this, they said, now we have a speaker, his name is, and they looked on the sheet, Art Katz.

He's got some religious bit. Are you here, Katz? So I staggered out of the stand, blinded by the sun, almost suffering sunstroke. My spirit crushed, and I grabbed that microphone and I looked up into the stands and there were these bodies draped in every imaginable posture.

It might have been the kind of scene that had taken place in Rome in its days of worst debauchery, and there were lunch bags and wrappers and leaflets and every kind of refuse and litter strewn in those stands, and there were these kids, some of them half naked, draped over each other. It was a scene that I had seen not too long ago like that at Greenwich Village, where they were just sitting on the rim of that Washington Square fountain, and as I squinted my eyes, I thought that these were, these are snakes writhing and squirming. This must be the pit of hell.

And I looked up and I didn't know what to speak, as I don't know what to speak to you now, as I never know what to speak, but I praise God for his word that says that he gives us all utterance. And I began saying something like, for two hours, I've been sitting here and listening to your speeches, and I want you to know that as a Jewish man, I've been greatly concerned with the questions of righteousness and social justice all my life long. But I have to say this also, that you've been another reminder to me of just how inept and just how ceremonial and shallow our human solutions are, mere words without any real substance and without life.

Here you've been lamenting the death of four students, but it's only been a shabby, sentimental lament. If you're really concerned with death, you would be the first to see the death which is in your own throats and your own mouths, your sepulchers of death yourself. You're quick to point the fingers of accurization with brim full of self-righteous indignation at the exploiter and the imperialist, but slow to see the imperialist and the exploiter within.

You know how come I was able to say those things? Because that's exactly the revelation God gave me about my own heart and life six years before. I had said the same slogans and I'd been filled with the same self-righteous indignation, not realizing that I was the worst and the least slogans are not going to save us, not even Christian slogans. I wondered why it was as a young child of God, four and five years ago, six years ago, I used to somehow flinch when I would hear Christians say, Christ is the answer.

Why did I flinch? In a sense I knew it was true and only recently God revealed to me why I was flinching. It's because it's a slogan. Slogans are not going to save the world.

Even the slogan that Christ is the answer is not going to save the world. But when it no longer is a slogan, when it's an authentic reality, when it's something that's creative in our heart and life, Christ is the answer. And God wants us to shift gears from slogans to reality, from doctrines to reality.

We've got all the right doctrines, but we don't have the right reality. And if you would have the right reality, I would not have had to wait 35 years to have discovered that my God liveth. Because I wasn't an insulated Jew holed up in a ghetto in Brooklyn.

I was a wandering Jew, like so many of my people and my Swedish brother, broken off from the mainstream and just floating like flotsam and jetsam over the face of the earth to California on six different occasions looking for a city. Young, stupid, romantic, thinking that if I found a certain city, my soul would be at ease. And only to find after city after city that it's one universal rat race.

It hardly makes a difference what the accident of culture or language is. A city is not going to do it. No special vocation is going to do it.

And sorrow upon sorrow and tragedy upon tragedy, no human relationship is going to do it either. And oh, oh, oh, for the broken lives and bodies that have had the misfortune of crossing mine in the first 35 years of my life when I, like some fiend, was ready to suck blood and nutriment and life out of them. There's not a woman made who can answer to that need.

God bless you precious ladies. And there's not a man made that can answer to that need for you. And we're killing each other and cursing each other and destroying each other because of our terrible disappointment in each other, because we're seeking for that relationship that's totally deep, totally engaging, that would mean life that only God himself can bring.

And we're making of each other gods and we weren't designed that way. So I lived in a Christian country, quote and unquote, for 34 years and not a single Christian ever spoke to me about the gospel of Jesus Christ. I traveled this country one side and down the other in every mode of transportation you could name, including hitchhiking, and not a single Christian ever put in my hands a single piece of literature or a tract.

I didn't know a single thing in the Bible. And I'm amused, or is it saddened now, when Christian people come to me and say, oh, Art, you must have a wonderful background in the Old Testament being Jewish. And I have to confess with shame and embarrassment that the first scripture I ever read was out of the New Testament.

I'm learning now the things of my heritage and my ancestry thanks to the kindness and the mercy and the grace of God. We Jewish people are in ignorance and in darkness. And I was a university graduate and I didn't know that Jesus Christ was the Greek name for Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus.

I didn't know that the New Testament was a Jewish book and that all of its characters are Jewish. I didn't know that Christianity was the fulfillment of our Jewish faith and that there's only one God and one way and one book and one salvation and it's the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I thought the Gentiles had their religion and we Jews had ours and both equally bloodless, a culture only.

But one day, seven years ago, as a man who had died, see it's death which worketh life, when I had come to the utter end of myself, it took 34 years, it took succeeding to fail. Did you know that? Nothing fails like success. I'm turning it around.

Because I who had been the high school dropout and who had brought my mother gray hair and who was distressed still waiting for knackers and satisfaction from her son, finally had that day come when I was the high school teacher, I was the professional, I was the university graduate, and when I obtained all the things for which I had been in hot pursuit all my life long, I realized then finally, you're finished, cats. You have nothing, you are nothing, you have nothing to communicate to your students, but your grief for a world that's dying. And what are your slogans? And what are your ideologies? And what are your unctuous phrases about human brotherhood when you yourself are quite able to grind the heel in the face of one close to you, all the while speaking the right slogans? You know what I saw about my students? They weren't so innocent.

They weren't so different from the adult generation outside them. That our little classroom was not just an innocent classroom, it was a microscopic universe, and every great passion that rages in the world, that brings death, was raging in that room. See, it hardly matters whether it's business success, whether it's a pursuit of nations, whether it's economic advantage, or just the obtaining of a grade where human all too human.

And in my 34th year, I came to this realization. Nothing that we have will avail. Psychiatry is not going to do it.

Legislation is not going to do it. Marxism is not going to do it. No human program is going to do it.

Education is not going to do it. We've got to become some kind of new creature. But I didn't know how.

So I took a year's leave of absence from teaching and began a trip that lasted 14 months. I began it as an atheist, seeking for philosophy. What else have modern men to seek? Although I had exhausted them all.

And I began to have the strangest series of encounters in the course of the 14 months of travel. I remember a Gentile man that picked me up off the side of the road in Switzerland. I was hitchhiking, by the way.

We teachers are not that well paid that we can travel for 14 months in any other fashion. I was a bum, traveling with a knapsack, living out of that for 14 months. I was a foreboding, angry-looking sight, having learned what it means to stand for two and three hours in the drizzle and the rain by the side of the road.

And a man picked me up one day in a brand-new car and didn't just wait behind the wheel and give me the come on, hurry up fellow, I'm doing you a favor. He got out of the car and he greeted me at the side of the road, beaming from ear to ear as if I were doing him the favor. You know what my first suspicion was? I'd been around.

And this guy took my filthy rucksack and tossed it in the back seat of his car when I saw it hit the brand-new upholstery. I winced for him. And I looked at his face.

He hadn't even noticed. I thought, what manner of man is this? And he made me sit down on that front seat and made me to feel like the exalted guest, as if I were doing him the favor. And you know, people, you can't get someone to feel that way by feigning it.

And he turned and looked at me as we drove off and he could see I was not a high school kid. It was well past the tourist season. And he asked me in German, he said, why are you traveling? And so well as I could, I tried to explain in my broken way, I said, I'm a modern man.

What I should have said is, I'm the modern man. I'm modern man personified. I've drunk deeply from the fountains of modern life.

Or is it a fountain? It's a cistern that's cracked. And I said, I'm seeking for a foundation to my life. My foundations have crumbled.

And for some reason, I don't know why I told this stranger, I told him I'm Jewish. I didn't share that with most Gentiles, because most Gentiles, they grunt or they nod or they go silent or they scratch their heads or worse. But you know what happened to this man when I just conveyed that little piece of information? He began to glow and radiate like a neon tube.

His face literally began to shine. Oh, and he insisted right away that we stop for refreshments at his expense, for which I was grateful. And we had a conversation that day at that Swiss coffee house that I'll never forget.

And I'm so grateful for this opportunity now, and I didn't seek it. I praise God for that. No wheeling and dealing.

I was a wheeler and dealer for 34 years, a pox on that. To be free in Christ was to be free indeed. And if God wants to bring something to pass, He will.

And if He doesn't want to bring it to pass, I don't want it either. I think God wants you to know this, because many of you ask, Art, how do you witness to a Jewish person? Art, how do I share the things of God with my Jewish friend? And I want you to know, and I know that you do know, there's no mechanical way. There's a precious, holy Spirit of God who knows that Jew better than He knows Himself.

You know what that man did with me that day? He kept his mouth shut and he listened. I won't say he listened, he heard. Hearing is a deep act of love.

And I found myself pouring out to this entire stranger the content and burden of my life. I spared nothing every single grimy detail that I had not shared with mother, wife, friends. I was sharing with this strange Gentile.

I thought to myself, Cass, what are you doing? As if a dam had burst, out it came. And he wasn't gingerly holding up his skirts for fear that it was going to trail in the dirt. He was receiving my life into his.

It's painful, but it's an act of love. We're so desperate to be heard, we're willing to pay $25 for a half hour and we'll experience a therapeutic effect just to be heard. And when I finished and I came to the end of myself, leaned back, exhausted and world weary, and I looked at this man, he wasn't anything very special to look at.

I thought, what is he going to say to me? Is he going to tell me now about philosophy? Big deal. I've been an existentialist, a Marxist, a pragmatist, you name it, and I've wrestled with it and gone through it. Is he going to tell me about ideologies and mass movements and politics? Why, my God, I've belonged to half a dozen organizations on the Attorney General's list.

I distributed leaflets and carried placards when these kids still had pacifiers, when it was dangerous to be a radical. There's nothing new under the sun. And this man turned to me and he said, you know, aren't with the world needs? And I looked with my arrogant, I was very arrogant, haughty, angry face, skeptical.

I said, what? He said, what the world needs, Art, is for men to wash one another's feet. How did he know? How did he know that the one great crushing burden of my life was the inability of men to be reconciled to each other? My heart was broken because wherever I looked I saw division and enmity and strife. Students and teachers, black and white, Jew and Gentile, male and female, husband and wife, wherever I looked, rich and poor, enmity and division, breaking and crushing the human race.

And when he spoke that one line, Art, what the world needs is for men to wash one another's feet. Ooh. Something exploded in my heart.

I felt pieces and smithereens and fragments flying around inside my chest. Saliva began running in my mouth. There was an inner cry that went up from my heart.

It said, Eureka! Cats, this is it. By a simple spirit of humility and love, the world could be changed overnight without a drop of blood being spilled. And what have your ideologies and philosophies brought mankind but contention, suffering, strife, and death? And I had a vision in that same moment of the arrogant and the haughty peoples of the world humbling themselves to wash the feet of the lowly and the despised.

We're not going to take three centuries of racial hatred in America and devise a legislative program to overcome that. And I remember when I was a high school teacher and one of my black brothers was at the other side of the lunch table with me in the school cafeteria and he said, Artie, all I want is the legal right to sit opposite you and eat. I said, big deal.

So you'll masticate your food on one side and your guts will be churning within you and I'll masticate my food on the other side and shoot darts at you with my eyes and you'll have your legal right. That kind of eating is death. The kind of eating that's life is the breaking of bread in love.

That's not going to come by a piece of legislation. That's going to come by the washing of feet, by the humbling of the haughty and the arrogant. When we'll recognize that there's no man good, no not one, that there isn't a good guy and a bad guy.

We're all bad guys. There's no man good. That's the knowledge that the world needs lest we perish.

It's the knowledge that came to the prophet Isaiah when he was already in God's service. He was already a choice oracle. He was already the prince of the prophets.

But then, he caught a glimpse of God high and lifted up and he cried out, Oy vey. That's Jewish. Oy vey.

My people have been beating their chests for centuries crying Oy vey for the wrong things. But I'm waiting to hear that one last great Oy vey. When my Jewish people are going to have the experience that their prophet Isaiah had and they're going to catch a glimpse of God high and lifted up.

His glory filling the temple. No more slogans. No more cliches.

No more religion as culture. But something deeply spiritual. Something authentic out of the bosom and the heart of the living God.

And they're going to cry, Oy vey. I'm undone. I'm a man of unclean lips.

And I live amidst the people of unclean lips. You'll never understand yourself until you catch a glimpse of him. It's a double revelation.

It's the same revelation that came to Job who spoke so eloquently. He was so righteous. But when he caught a glimpse of the living God before whose creation we tremble, he said, I spoke once.

I spoke twice. But now I stop my mouth. I abhor myself and I repent in dust and ashes.

And then God spoke to Job's comforters, the theologians, the ones that have all the slick and right answers. My wrath is kindled against thee because you've not spoken as my servant Job had spoken. There's only one thing that I want to hear from you, my creation.

I want to hear, Oy vey. I'm undone. I want to hear you say you abhor yourselves.

That you spoke once or twice, but now you're going to stop your mouths. That's the only fit thing in the presence of the Most High God. The world is choking on its arrogance and its conceit and self-righteous indignation.

And we're going to kill each other that our programs might be affected. And literally we will. And that's the spirit that the devil has been pouring out over these great campuses.

So when I began speaking that day to these kids, and they began to catch wind of what I was saying, cries began to come up around that amphitheater. How did he get the microphone? What's this got to do with the strike? And when I started preaching Jesus, I heard the cries, Give us Barabbas! Give us Barabbas! The day is not far off and we're going to hear also, Crucify them. Crucify them.

Two worlds are in collision, people, and we're right down to the final showdown. Two kingdoms in collision. And how I wondered and how I was perplexed as a young child of God when I came back from Jerusalem six years ago to take up my place in a Christian Pentecostal congregation in California.

Where's the persecution, I used to ask. Where's the persecution? Why, this couldn't be more comfy. We're fitted right in.

We're part of the establishment. Everything is nice and pleasant. We have a little fellowship among ourselves and we go home.

Where's the persecution? I never did experience it until God brought me into this work with my own people and I stood on a soapbox at Broadway and 72nd Street in New York and began preaching the gospel. I began to taste persecution. But I also began to taste the glory of God.

That same night in Chicago of the day that I'm describing to you, I was invited to speak at a great youth rally at a Pentecostal church of a great Pentecostal denomination. And I sat on that platform hot and sweaty and tired and dirty. We had been all afternoon talking with the students on the grass.

My pants were stained. I had been sitting on my Bible and my Bible was falling apart and I had a black tape to hold the seams together and I had a big black stripe down the back of my pants and I hardly had time to wash and to collect my thoughts and senses. And I looked on the platform and the platform was just laden with the sharpest men of God with their double-breasted mod suits and wide lapels and ties and well-cultivated sideburns and they were just real spiffy.

This is my first and last time with the full gospel. I looked out on that audience and there were these beautiful, well-dressed middle-class kids. Their faces were shined and scrubbed and every hair neatly in place and they came for a good time.

It was a good time spirit and I got the signal. I got a little poke. Now, I ought to give them the testimony.

Send them home. Rah, rah, rah. Get them all fired up.

A little pep talk. But you know what happened to me as I was sitting on that platform? There's a still small voice that kept saying over and over again, And I was arguing with God on the platform. I said, Lord, can't you see this is not the time and the place? These kids have just come for a pep talk.

The hour is late. I can't see even these kids holding their Bibles. I'm confused and I'm out of joint and in my eyes I still have that burning image of these kids with their hair strewn down over their faces and they're utterly perplexed and distraught and these two images of two generations, one over the other, I'm diminished.

It's a Jewish word. I'm confused. I'm confused and I'm perplexed and I don't have coherence.

I don't know what to say. I'm just a broken man. I ought to preach on the cross.

But this is a young audience and I know the message you're troubling me with. I've never spoken it, Lord, because I know you wanted me to show that the cross is the one message of the whole book. It's an Old Testament message and that I should begin in the Old Testament and go into the new and that this is only the kind of searching of the word that only the deepest children of God would enjoy.

This isn't the time. It's not the place. Every human being Every human reckoning says no.

And they said, Art, we're going to give you the service at 8 o'clock. But they didn't tell me they were going to have a competition that night, most favorite pastor competition. And they had the platform with the last three top contestants and one guy had 2,362 points, the other guy had 2,122 and they got 50 points if someone shined their shoes and 100 points if someone washed their car, 1,000 points if someone cleaned their Sunday school rooms and they were reading off these point totals and I was dying, dying, dying.

Then they finally called on me and gave me a nice little introduction peppy and I just dragged my body. And you know what the first words out of my mouth were? I cried out to God. God, I'm tired of being tried.

I'm tired of these deaths. Why can't I have a Patsy situation just this once? Why is it always coming into situations like at the University of Illinois at Urbana where they had my name plastered all over the campus without my saying so. Art Katz is coming, Art Katz is coming and then the first meeting at the Student Union building at noontime where every afternoon they have another radical spewing out of Sanity and Filth and they said now here's Art Katz and they pushed me out in the midst of two or three hundred students who were just waiting like this, oh boy, we'll carve this guy up and send him home wrapped in bandages.

And I didn't know what to say. I don't have wisdom. I don't know how in a human way to convince people about the reality of God but I saw miracles for eight days, four to six times a day from one meeting to another.

Every meeting went overtime. The reaction was fantastic and fierce. It was explosive.

Students were climbing the walls and ceilings and nodding their fists and anguishing and gnashing their teeth and foaming at the mouth and cries of insane and madman and fanatic. But at every meeting where the invitation was given souls would cry out to receive the Lord Jesus. The last of these meetings at a Jewish fraternity house, ZBT, the wealthiest, most famous on the campus and the only ground on which they were going to have me if I would debate with a professor from the university who teaches comparative religion, who speaks half a dozen Semitic languages as well as Greek and is conversant with the Bible and he's an expert on this, that and the other.

And they called me long distance, Art, can you handle this? It's the only condition that this Jewish fraternity house will have you and invite other Jewish students. I said, why of course not. I can't handle it.

But I can't handle any other of those meetings either. And the same God who's going to speak then will speak at the fraternity house also. So the final meeting came and there he was, sharp, very ingratiating with the students, had his jacket off and over the dinner table and they had this political communion together.

They were all progressives and I stole away and found a place to fall on my face before God and pray. And then the meeting began and they made the mistake and they allowed me to speak first. And after about a half hour some of these Jewish kids turned to this professor and he hadn't said boo yet.

And they said, say, aren't you going to answer this man? And this guy began going like this. He made one or two lame apologetic remarks and he just slipped out of that house strictly no contest. At midnight that night we picked up the 20 Christian kids of every denominational background who were a mile across campus at the student union building praying their hearts out for that meeting.

Every meeting was prayed for while the meeting was in progress. And God gave us a glimpse of New Testament Christianity as I had never been afforded such a glimpse before. I began to realize that the Bible isn't just for academic Sunday school lessons.

That we were preaching out of it and counseling out of it and living in it day and night constantly. One spirit and one accord? I never saw anything more precious and more beautiful. We couldn't afford to indulge ourselves of doctrinal differences because there were lives at stake and it was war.

Prayer? It was our lifeline. We clutched it incessantly. Our cries were going up before God continually because there were lives at stake.

All of a sudden it all came together. That full orbed Christian life all of a sudden because we were obedient to the word that said go ye out into all the world and preach my gospel to every creature. Oh I wish I had all kinds of time to tell you the things that had happened.

The cry of a student that came in one night at one of these meetings with a Van Dyke beard a Catholic kid and he stopped transfixed on the spot and he kept saying over and over again like a record with a needle stuck oh he said And when we had the hot question and answer period later and these guys were asking snide questions from the back of the room he stood to us and he said why are you guys talking like this? Can't you see God has come into our midst this day? When I gave that invitation he was the first to cry out with a loud voice and the meeting was over he immediately fell into my arms saved to the uttermost. You know what happened that night at the Jewish fraternity house? Midnight we picked up these kids who had been praying they said didn't something happen at 1030? I said how did you know? Oh we just sensed that now spirits from 6 to 1030 it was a war. That's exactly what it was.

They said but from 1030 on they said something wonderful was happening. I said indeed it was. The Holy Spirit of God fell in that fraternity house.

All of the anger and the rancor and the rage and the animosity and the egotism was out. They had spewed it out and spit it out and they had left and they were vexed. I saw students in and out of the meeting two or three times.

They left and up and came back and left and up and came back. They couldn't break away. And I said I said I've been saying all night to you that there's a living God seeking you and that Jesus is our Messiah and that if you'll call upon the name of the Lord he'll attest that this is his word and that this is his salvation.

And we finally bowed our heads and I gave a prayer for salvation. I heard a chorus of voices following me and when I looked up I saw 10 to 15 of these Jewish intellectuals in the hearing of the gospel for the first time trembling and weeping as the Spirit of God came in and possessed their lives. So now I'm back again at Chicago standing at that pulpit and I was telling the people my predicament.

I said as I've been sitting here all night on this platform the Spirit of God has been saying to my heart ah preach on the cross preach on the cross and I've been told to give the testimony and I know this isn't the time and the place for a lengthy message. I said let's look to the Lord now for his leading and we prayed and I asked God that his will be fulfilled and when we finished praying I said to these people now I'm going to take a vote on the cross how many of you people felt as you prayed that I ought to give the testimony when I said take a vote I looked out of the corner of my eye and there was the pastor of the home church he just slipped into his seat he had that sick look on his face I've seen it before and it says I'll never invite a Jewish speaker again. I said how many people felt as they prayed that I ought to give the testimony and one hand went up in the entire 500 people one hand falteringly how many people think I ought to preach on the cross the hands went up just all over that room I took a deep breath and I turned to 1 Samuel 15 and I began reading those scriptures and immediately the weight lifted my head began to clear I felt unction and anointing the spirit of God taking possession the words were going out with clarity and I sailed through that message for 45 minutes as if I had preached it a hundred times and when I finished I didn't have to give an invitation no sentimentality no playing on emotions no loud raucous voices they just came broken because it was an invitation to death it was an invitation to discipleship and I so appreciated Derek Prince's message yesterday on fasting and in my own very limited experience I know that every fast is a death there's no life without a death and I think God wants to brand that upon our souls he's not called us to a culture and how easy it is who knows it better than we Jews to take the sacred things of God and to make of it a religion and a culture hasn't that been the tragic history of our race? hasn't that been the tragic history of Christianity? hasn't that or becoming the tragic history of the Pentecostal movement? and I pray God that that does not become the tragic history of the full gospel businessmen that God keep us in all purity in the spirit and in the faith that we shudder with revulsion at the slightest introduction of anything that's not of the spirit of God that we're ready to receive the death day by day that life might go forth from us and through us to a world that's dying I'm going to stop with this now we just got an invitation to come to New York to direct the work of the American Board of Missions to the Jews to two and a half million Jews in New York City it's so utterly foolish I'm so utterly ill-equipped I'm such a Johnny-come-lately wet behind the ears I'm so ignorant about the scriptures and the things of God I need to be instructed and God is bringing us to a very hard place my own mother is in that city and she's not believing and she's whammed the door in my face and called me mad though she loved me when I was a radical and an atheist what is it going to take to bring the light of God the news that our Messiah has come to two and a half million of our Jewish people I tell you people that this is not just another ethnic ministry this is the chosen people of God this is God's Israel New York is the great Babylon this is the center of the publishing industry the TV industry this is where the great opinions and the culture is shaped that goes forth all over the world and Jews are at the heart of it I came to Chicago for one great reason two great reasons that my brother who came with me from New York might be healed in his back and he received that at the Kathryn Kuhlman meeting and my other great burden was that God might touch your hearts to pray for the Jewish people this is the last decade I don't speak that with any great personal authority I don't know if the world would go on beyond the 1970s but the thing that God has inscribed in my heart is this is the last decade when we're going to be able to work unhindered for the kingdom when this decade ends and perhaps earlier that night will come when no man can work are you preparing yourself for adversity and crisis? are you preparing yourself for persecution and for distress? I've already heard from a nice middle class girl in a Christian liberal arts college who looked at me without batting an eyelash and said Art I believe that God is telling me to kill you and that scripture came to mind the day will come that they will kill us and claim that they're doing God a service we're not going to challenge the power of this world system we're not going to challenge and crack through to the center of world Jewry without there being a great adverse reaction and a response and great persecution as it came upon God's apostolic children of old are you preparing yourself now? I want to know how to fast now I want to know how to travail before God now I want to know how to live unto God now that we're not unto odd cats now that when that day comes that God has a prepared vessel through whom he can speak to bring the word of life in great power and great unction to a people who are dying will you bow your heads with me now? Great living God God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob Lord God how long have you grieved and how long have you mourned for this peculiar people who you fashioned for yourself to minister unto you to be a nation of priests and a light unto the world to be a people who would cleanse the temple to be a people who would bring fit sacrifice of praise from their lips how long have you heard cursing and indifference and cheap slogans instead and we pray oh God for thy glory and for thy delight that that day would soon come when you will again be hearing from the lips of thy Jewish children all over the face of this earth great praise to the God Jehovah oh God let thy great spirit fall upon this people in darkness all over this earth work in their hearts to create a hunger for the divine things make us to be sick and to be discontent with sham with pretense with culture with human religion that we only desire the pure things of the living God bless this people Lord God and right now right into their hearts your burden for the nation Israel for thy chosen people have them to be great warriors here is the word of the Lord for the spirit of God is kind and yea if you look upon the valley of dry bones there arose in his heart the question can these bones live and the spirit of God spoke unto him and yea he said in his heart thou knowest the Lord and the spirit of God and the wind did blow even those were as that word was coming forth God reminded me that I should conclude a few months after my conversion in California as God led me into the giving of this testimony after one Sunday night service a roly-poly gentile woman came up to me she said you don't know me brother Katz but you had my daughter when you first began teaching at the high school she knew that you were a radical and an atheist and came home from school every afternoon weeping over you and she said from that day to this both my daughter and I have been praying for you thank you for that tremendous message brother Arthur Katz and I know as he talked in my own heart I kept dedicating my own life in fact I appreciate it because he has the pulse of the time also pulse of the situation he is seeing it from both sides of the new generation now and of the eyes of Jesus for the spirit I concur in my own spirit that our time is running out in this world and all I can say is thank God he has been visiting us this week in a tremendous way our hearts have been challenged and challenged and challenged I pray that coming to this banquet this afternoon as we close and go back home that it's pretty hard to digest everything and really appreciate everything that has been said and done during these last few days so many things have been happening he has been moving so fast and God and his spirit pouring into us so many things that it will be months and months as we reflect and we'll be I believe that when we go back we're going to suddenly grow in the spirit of God understanding and comprehending what he's trying to get through to us and maybe some of the things we don't quite understand right now in a week or two or a month or two you will suddenly understand you may wake up one morning and say my God now I understand so when we leave this place let's leave with an open heart and we'll leave after tonight's meeting let's leave with an open heart determined dedicated your life unto death that Lord I'm willing to do anything you want me to do now because a year from now six months from now or two years from now I don't know this could be the decade maybe this decade won't run out like Archie Katz said praise God then if all the forces of and all energies break loose and if this is the time of the coming of the Messiah as he said he's coming back as the angel said he's coming back as the disciples preached it it certainly appears we're coming to this time then what is more important in all our lives than to start doing now what God wants that is utterly the most important thing and if it isn't the most important thing then we must re-examine ourselves and find out what's wrong with us what is it going to take us as we view in this convention just this word and we're going to close all denominations practically have been represented in this convention nearly all witnessing to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit all color, red, white, black, red from the Chinese and between the borders of the Chinese and Burma you heard last night how God is moving the black, the white, the red, the cat Protestants, the Jews God is pouring out Joel said in the last days I'll pour out my spirit and I have never read in the history nor have I seen in my own life like we are seeing in this age right now this day the outpouring of the Holy Spirit like you wouldn't sing today in the world truly the time has arrived and the rapture those that believe in the rapture it can happen any time those that think we're going to go through a tribulation I think we're already started At the cross, at the cross where at first all the light and the first love sing he is Lord he is Lord he is risen from the dead and he is Lord he he is Lord he is Lord keep going all day management is biting their nails they have to get us out of here real, real fast I'd like to just say this there's one little girl Linda Rogers whoever the mother and dad are she'll be standing by the escalator just outside here in the foyer as you go down so you'll pick her up there that's Linda Rogers and for those who are leaving today they ask if you would please go down and get your bill
